    As a person that took sewing classes to learn how to make garments...I have to say that you are hard on yourself (probably due to "helpful" comments on Your videos about how to do things). Do what works...I think anyone born after the 1950's sews because it is a problem solver for them. Either because we can't find what we want to wear...so we make or alter garments to work for our needs and taste. Do it however works. There is no right or wrong way. Also you have inspired me to use parts of patterns in different ways or make multiple patterns work together. I didn't learn that in classes...I learned that from You and Your Videos....so thank you.

      This one would have benefitted from angling the sides of the panels. Little less fabric to put in the gathers. I assume that's what went wrong g with the yabbo hammock parts too. Just too thick to gather into the space.

  • @katrinehasselquist
    @katrinehasselquist 6 месяцев назад +1

    oh boy... I KNOW this fabric personally xD It's not easy to gather, or make it lay nicely when gathered. It's so springey. I used this in my Northern Lights costume, and for my bodice I ended up having to pin the folds I wanted in place and do some handstitches in various spots to keep them in place. I had a fitted lining that I draped the fabric onto and could stitch it in place how I wanted it to lay. It is a gorgeous fabric though! Was worth the extra efforts to make it do what I wanted.

      I've never been able to understand why that one seems to be one of Rachel's less-watched vids?? 🤯Certainly those of us who did watch it ALL seem to return to it on at least an annual basis! 😂 Definitely one of her best in terms of fascinating makeup transformations & just general hilarity....

    I’ve been watching Rachel for a very long time, and this was one of the best videos- def one of your top ten! I love how you just show us it’s totally okay to play and be as whimsical as we wanna be. In hard times, Rachel always pulls through to make things fun. the sewing video/costume pun format is one of my favorite kinds of her videos ❤❤

    This was so fun ❤. You really nailed that way she’d tilt back her head, look through the bottom of her eyes, and purse her mouth. What a wonderful, wacky idea! Thanks for taking g along for the ride.

    If you are ever in the mood to torture yourself with that fabric again, a small tip. A heated craftknife - aka a woodburner with an exacto blade tip does wonders for cutting it out and sealing your cut lines in one move by fusing that edge. I usually work over sacrificial cardboard with it because it will melt my cutting mat, occasionally I'll do a silicone mat but those can be cut by the blade itself and I don't like damaging them in that way. I do keep a silicone mat nearby so I can set the tool down safely while it's hot.

      That does sound safer than my approach, which is to light a candle and then slowly pass the cut edge through the heat column to melt the cut edges so they fuse. It's not super precise, but it does feel satisfying 😅

    I think the bodice needs to be gathered more at the top and bottom, thats why it's so weirdly balloony. That and then ironed in place would keep that volume less unruley

      This dress feels like the 'dressy' version (pun intended) of his blue robe in "Sword in the Stone"! 😆 As another commenter suggested, it's very "Merlin does Pride", and I love that gorgeous iridescent fabric (albeit nowhere near skin, yikes! Scratchy!!)
