Yep. I spent most of yesterday doing that. Eight solid hours of work including running up and down the stairs. I suspect the actual painting will go faster.
. @RobinWood1292 yeah right? This video made me recall back to the time I redecorated with a dude and he downright said: "I ain't gonna be living in effing Lord of the Rings!" So we made everything simple and bland. Thankfully those days I live on my own and I can shape my environs exactly how I see fit.
I kinda think Nick was wholly on board because it meant the bedroom was gonna get finished. And of course a curtain to block that too bright window in the mornings.

@@ksyvishe said that it was latex paint, which is a pain in the bum in itself, but having spilled water-based interior dark blue paint, it was going nowhere. So I have embraced dark blue paint splotches on my beige couch now 🫠
Unfortunately this advice is coming to Rachel a little late, but for anyone else that might spill paint on their carpet: Goof Off makes a paint remover for carpet that works pretty dang well if the paint hasn’t dried yet. You can get it at most home improvement stores. It saved my bacon on more than one occasion when I worked in home construction.
I appreciate you sharing this because we are about to paint basically every room in our house and we have very light carpet and I am 100% sure I'm going to spill something
Was about to post our resolution for spilled paint on carpet, too. We dropped an entire gallon of bright blue paint (which split open and almost all of it spilled out) on the carpet in our condo hallway. Tonnes of paper towel (and some sacrificed actual towels), we scooped up as much as we could, then worked on the huge stain. It’s thinnest around the edges, so start at the outside edge and scrub inwards, always keeping the edges wet, so the paint can’t set (interior latex paint is water based. This wouldn’t work with oil based paint). We used plain water and a scrub brush, frequently refreshing the rinse water and getting fresh towels. We borrowed the condo wet vac to vacuum up the (very blue!) water when it got too much, and then finished up with a Rotostatic brand spray on carpet cleaner (designed as a spot cleaner, not the kind for a carpet shampoo machine). This actually saved the carpet, and our relationship with the condo board! I don’t know how Goo Gone would work, but if it’s a huge amount of paint, this method worked well and plain water, a bucket (or plastic garbage can…), paper towels and old rags (or towels), are things everyone has. If they don’t have a wet vac, it would just take a lot more blotting & ringing out of towels. An absorbent sponge would also be useful. Would be even better if it’s not trying to clean up an ENTIRE GALLON of paint. Also, those of us who know what happened, have all talked about how funny it’s going to be when the carpet gets replaced, because we KNOW there’s going to be a huge blue stain on the concrete underneath. 😆
I feel like Tom Haverford when he had that emotional reaction to the shapes painting. This made me cry. My ADHD gives me severe decision paralysis. It wasn’t until this year of my life (28) that I’ve been able to officially decide that green is my favorite color. A simple decision, but it has been a life long debate for me. Ive also only recently discovered that I am very drawn to and intrigued by dark Victorian/academia and have had a hard time figuring out how to incorporate it into my apartment decor. Basically just really needed to stumble upon this. Thank you for existing.
Heck, Nick is the lucky one. He's the man who has the live in decorator! Decorators are expensive and he's getting everything at cost and sometimes thrift store prices. 😉 😁🧓🏽✌🏽🇨🇦
I'm such a fan of both your "Don't look !" towards Nick when he comes in the room while you're trying to cover the stain on the carpet and his adorable "Don't be sorry !"... 🥰
As a goth who absolutely hates green and gold and has a style that’s day and night from yours, I absolutely love this, I also love how supportive nick is :(( he’s so sweet
i get your gripe, green & gold specifically reminds me of the military😂 i live in blacks but in the end they're two of my best colors because i have olive-colored skin
@@felathamekitty It's funny you say military in a bad way, I'm goth but some of my go to looks are kinda military inspired and I have a drab green and brass military styled peacoat. Looks great with Goth looks. Heavy boots, white hair. Very Anime villian.
@@JoeyisDREADful oh, it's something more like boredom for me😅 i live in indonesia (still big military vibes in its development) and born in an army family from my mom's side - a good chunk of my life is filled with the color green, golds. i do like the military/uniform silhouettes though
Appreciation comment for the edit of Rachel disappearing into the shrubbery wall. And a shout out for Nick for being the sweetest about the rug and letting Rachel design the bedroom of her dreams. ❤
I cannot begin to tell you how thankful I am to hear you speak of wrinkles and crow’s feet along with normal aging as brush strokes of our lives making us who we are. I have struggled with my many “imperfections” not wanting to go the extra step (and cost) of cosmetic treatments, but feel as though I have aged tremendously since the death of my son, moving my parents in our home prior to Covid to care for them completely only to lose them both within the last two years. You are an inspiration and such a gem! Thank you!!
I'm a renter too - I feel your pain. There is a chef from Japan that has made a custom 'kitchen' in each house he's rented...and I'm thinking of using some of the techniques he uses - which is basically creating false walls using tension with the floor and ceiling.
@@Morna777But make sure it’s peel and stick and not contact paper, or you’ll ruin walls. Real peel and stick is about 20.5 inches wide. Everything else is contact paper.
The room feels so much calmer once it was painted and decorated, the muted greens and darker colors really made everything feel peaceful, like walking into a dark forest and sitting a while.
We've just had an offer accepted on our first home (at the ripe old age of 35!) and I am loving watching these videos for inspiration! I am SO done with white or cream walls (in the UK you often are not allowed to decorate a rental) and I cannot wait to create my own hobbit/victorian/cottagecore rooms!
Hope your new house is going well, I’m in Uk too and can’t stand this disgusting grey cladding, grey walls, faux fur cushions etc. someone described it as grey plague! Pathetic how ever one follow me. Trend. Anyway would love to see your house when you have finished it.
Couldn't say why, but RUclips decided to bring over a comment from a completely different video and add it to yours, so you ended up with "Très beau, on reconnait la touche de Lully, pas loin de l'air du sommeil d'Atys. Est-ce un parti pris " historique" de parler l'italien avec un accent si fortement français ?We've just had an offer accepted on our first home (at the ripe old age of 35!) and I am loving watching these videos for inspiration! I am SO done with white or cream walls (in the UK you often are not allowed to decorate a rental) and I cannot wait to create my own hobbit/victorian/cottagecore rooms!" from my view. Good luck with the house!
Rachel! Almost any store that sells paint will match any color that you bring in. A swatch, a stuffed animal, etc. You dont have to do all that mixing all the time. ....unless you just want to ❤
Was gunna come say the same thing! We made SO many custom colors in our house, I was kinda surprised Rachel did it all (but also not really surprised, this is Rachel after all). 💜
I thought the same thing. Now that she found the color she likes, she could have it matched. However, the process of small-batch mixing and painting with a brush will give it some subtle variations. I was almost going to suggest she could have done a scumble: take two different color paints and mix them directly on the walls: that can achieve an interesting visual texture, which can be subtle to obvious, depending on how contrasting the colors, and how much you blend them. But overall, I think she seems happy with the results, so it all worked out.
Designer trick for Galery walls : Make paper templates of your frames, use removable tape and play with them as much as you like without making holes in your wall ! Step back often to be sure it looks good from afar ❤
@@BeerElf66bonus tip - add the nail spot to the paper template. Then when it's where you want it, nail right through the paper and then pull the paper off.
Another option, if you need to see how the colours and images fit together use print-outs! Not too hard even for bigger artworks to tape them together into full size
"brush strokes for your body" is the healtiest, cutest, sweetest description of wrinkles and stuff ❤ I love this woman so much, and the room is ofc amazing! You're an inspiration
I love how Frodo was so supportive of her by being underneath the bed and putting his little paw out for her. When she was attempting to clean up the paint on the rug.❤
Okay, I mostly show up here for the neat sewing and crafts, and the lolz, but the idea that our "imperfections" are the brush strokes of our bodies really hit me where I lived. I love that.
Add two European pillows behind your standard size pillows, and then buy a few more throw pillows for the front of different textures and colors. I guarantee you will like the bed much better! Also, if you went with a thicker drapery, maybe like a velvet behind that pediment it might give you more cozy vibes. And I agree with Nick your painting always scares me! I’m somebody who tapes off an entire room with plastic and the meticulously tapes every single thing and then measures. Your chaotic energy is everything I want to be, but I can’t, so thanks Rachael! Let me know what happened to the rug, though I’m really dying to know!
If you add all those pillows just for effect - do you plan on sleeping in the bed? Though you only have to remove them once when going to bed - where are you going to put them? One extra decorative pair is enough. It's cheaper to just buy coloured pillow cases or a set of cushions & just change the covers if you want colour & texture. You could even buy all 4 seasonal covers if you celebrate them if one doesn't have a permanent theme the room. Maybe get some seasonal pictures too that you could switch them out that would compliment the walls.
You're right taping off things that need to be taped off and covering things with plastic. PREPARATION is key for any painter - professional or not. It's more expensive & time consuming to fix mistakes no matter how careful one is eg. If you get paint on the floor, skirting boards, door frame especially as you're using such a dark colour. No matter how careful one is - little "accidents" can happen.
I was highly entertained. 😂 Very imaginative bedroom decor. My guy is very supportive like yours, only he prefers ornate, slightly-over-the-top French decor. We have some 15 pillows on our king bed, which I think is excessive, but he wanted them ALL, so I said, ‘Okay.’ As far as making your king bed look luxurious and balanced, try placing 3 large European pillows along the back for height. Darker antique gold shams on them will give you a nice contrast with the green and make your gold accents pop. You can vacuum your plastic greenery gently with a brush attachment once a week and that will help keep it nice. I have several large floral arrangements in my house and that really works to keep them nice. 😊
Rachel: “I hope you all like these kind of videos.😅” Me: “I freaking LOVE these kind of videos!!” I giggled so much watching this video; which was probably weird because I’m walking on the treadmill at the gym. 😅 Oh well! Worth it!
For the bed, you could totally make a quilt that matches the vibe of the room that will have designs on it. Could do a big moth in the middle or something. It’d be really pretty
I also think her bed honestly is perfect how she did it. I love thr quilting idea, especially since she feels differently. It's also possibly the too much gene kicking in. (I have it and I understand the drive)
Weird dusting hack! I also have vines on my walls (ivy vines spray painted antique gold with metallic butterflies). To remove dust, put a pair of pantyhose around the hose of vacuum cleaner and secure with a rubber band. You can vacuum up close to the foliage without suctioning it off of the wall. Also don't use the highest suction setting on the vacuum.
Can you give Nick a giant hug in my name for being so supportive and kind? Like he didn't even sigh, he was just like ok we'll get a new rug! I've never seen someone handle whoopsies so well!
I need ALL the room make overs from you please… literally living vicariously through you. Your ability to transform a room is pure magic and I admire that so much.
Nick saying "Don't be sorry" made me so happy🥺❤️ Words like that is so healing and supportive when you may feel a bit bad about something that happened.
CAN I JUST SAY that you seem way happier now that you're not pressuring yourself as much and uploading every other friday instead of every week? Your videos are a joy to watch and I've been more excited then ever to seen them pop up on my feed. Love ya Rachel! X
As an artist and painter of faces I completely agree with you! I love painting all the laugh lines, the asymmetrical eyes, lopsided smiles, and crooked noses. Without all those things there isn't any life or soul to a face. The things that make a person unique are my favorite things to draw or paint because it's what makes them look like them and not just some face an artist put together.
Rachel, I went through a “minimalist” phase where I lied to myself for like seven years about my stuff-related habits and needs. I love being in my 30’s and accepting the maximalist rainbow absurdity that is my aesthetic. From one busy wall bitch to another, thank you for stanning the busy wall lifestyle.
Same. I can’t do maximalism with stuff sitting everywhere, but I love maximalism with the walls. My room is covered in art, photos, and shelves. I’m too clumsy to have stuff everywhere on the floor and too much furniture. I like open space but I want to feel like I’m in a museum.
as someone who lives in a dorm too, carpets, plants and fairy lights make all the difference🌱 i also took apart some of the ugly dorm cupboards and replaced them with crates and covered the rest with big tablecloths :) you got this!! it's a challenge but it is not impossible✨
Oh joy, you finally acknowledged the lack of roller [tape? drop cloth?]. I'm a right now, hard way kinda girl myself when faced with 'would be nice, but THIS is what I'm working with ATM - no extra shopping trip needed.' edit now that I've finished watching: Fabulous!!! You are SO fun!! Actually reminded me of the ME I used to be ... now I want to try to find her again!! Well-done.
First: it came out so beautiful! I'm super scared of painting walls a dark or bold colour because it is so easy to make the room small and oppressive with that but you managed it perfectly (again). Second: Nick is setting an impossible standard for men 😂 where on earth am I to find someone so handy, supportive and chill that puts up with these things?! You have really found a treasure!
You can just learn the skills a little and be handy yourself! A lot of it isn't that hard. (Well except of course for cutting wood with the machine you need a machine xD) Then you only need someone who's supportive and chill - you can do that!
But: dark colours in small rooms can actually make them appear larger. Because without seeing the corners (because of the dark colour) our eyes loose all sense of dimensions...
I had a small dorm room once with dark red walls and it felt so oppressive, like the walls were coming closer all the time. After it was painted a light neutral colour it was much better. So maybe depends on the dimensions of the room. General rule as I have learned it is that dark colours make a room feel smaller most of the time
Hello Lovely, I just happened upon your bedroom make over and you made my heart smile reminding me of my youth and my provocative sense of style. You are a talented charming young lady who made my granny self happy to pass the torch to the younger generation to inspire. Thank you.
This is quite literally and without exaggeration, the bedroom of my dreams. Also so happy I found your account, you’re a joyful human and so enjoyable to watch.
It's possible a rug cleaning company could save the rug. Not sure about the type of paint and how that all works in terms of washing it out but always good to save rugs!
sometimes regular rubbing alcohol does the trick too. That's my go to when I get pen ink in clothes or when I dye my hair and it ends up all over me. I know its different types of chemicals but it might still work

The whole thing about crow's feet and stuff made me think of something... i always love looking at the background characters in Pixar movies because when you think about it, the main characters are all designed by executives, but with the background characters the artists get a lot more leeway to do whatever the heck they want... and they always have such interesting and unique background characters.

Mix a little fabric softener and water in a spray bottle and mist it on the faux plants. Zhuzh it a little and itll help repell dust!🌿

why can't you just clean it with soap? Paint is most likely water-based, you can easily wash it out, if you do it immediately

Good stuff. Used it myself with good results.
great idea!
Bumping this comment!!

You dont have to do all that mixing all the time. ....unless you just want to ❤
Fr I was thinking how will it be uniform in color 😭
For smaller frames I use masking tape lol I used it when I made mine but my frames very not big
Thank you! That's the handy hint I needed for mine, it's a bit daunting to start making holes in the wall without some sort of plan.

Agreed. Especially a house reno/transformation video.
@@quinncy. I can HEAR your comment😂
Yes - MOAR PILLOWS!
I feel like changing the bed frame to gold would really add some attention and match the frames + curtain holder.
As a European, what's "European pillows"? First time I've heard that lol
“Difficult, difficult, lemon difficult” is my new saying 😂 “dusty and delicious” is also a gem
Ive been saying that phrase for years now myself and hearing her also say it made me so insanely happy 😆
Mine too😂
I was highly entertained. 😊

For the bed, you could totally make a quilt that matches the vibe of the room that will have designs on it. Could do a big moth in the middle or something. It’d be really pretty
Big fat YES to the moth quilt!!
I second moth quilt!!

Some fairy lights would be enchanting!! You did a marvelous job!!
As someone who’s currently living in a dorm I’m so incredibly jealous of this absolutely gorgeous room

Nick & Frodo are such lovely supportive lads 💚
First: it came out so beautiful! I'm super scared of painting walls a dark or bold colour because it is so easy to make the room small and oppressive with that but you managed it perfectly (again).
Second: Nick is setting an impossible standard for men 😂 where on earth am I to find someone so handy, supportive and chill that puts up with these things?! You have really found a treasure!
You can just learn the skills a little and be handy yourself! A lot of it isn't that hard.
(Well except of course for cutting wood with the machine you need a machine xD)
Then you only need someone who's supportive and chill - you can do that!
But: dark colours in small rooms can actually make them appear larger. Because without seeing the corners (because of the dark colour) our eyes loose all sense of dimensions...
I painted my room dark green and it actually feels larger, as the walls receded into a forest scape that seems to go on and on.
Pffffft! The size of the room remains the same no matter what color you paint it. Paint! No more boring neutral walls!
I had a small dorm room once with dark red walls and it felt so oppressive, like the walls were coming closer all the time. After it was painted a light neutral colour it was much better. So maybe depends on the dimensions of the room. General rule as I have learned it is that dark colours make a room feel smaller most of the time
The finished room is giving me "Jane and Tarzan's master bedroom"" vibes and it's perfect.
Hello Lovely, I just happened upon your bedroom make over and you made my heart smile reminding me of my youth and my provocative sense of style. You are a talented charming young lady who made my granny self happy to pass the torch to the younger generation to inspire. Thank you.
