- Hello everyone! This is my first miniature/dollhouse room box built from scratch. The room box has a pretty bay window, and I'll show you how to paint the faux wood bench. It also features a mahogany parquet floor, antique cylinder roll-top desk, and of course a beautiful library shelf full of books.
Unintentional ASMR-Use headphones if you want to listen closely to the sounds of cutting, sanding, and painting!
Sit with me and watch the past few months’ work as I build this precious little library ♥

I sew. That's my "big" hobby - you know how most of us do myriad hobbies, but there's always one that holds a special place in your heart? One you'd never abandon? That's sewing for me. I make quilts, dolls, clothing, etc., but I started with hand embroidery. It was love at first sight. It was painting with thread. I could create anything my mind could conjure, and it was dizzying trying to keep up with my ideas. Such is love.
For many years, I'd seen people cross stitching and wondered why they enjoyed it. It was so different from the embroidery I did. Cross stitch seemed stifling, fixed, and, frankly, tediously monotonous, particularly when compared with free hand embroidery and its profusion of stitch types and flexibility.
One day, I was making a gift for a friend (it was a fabric book cover for a book of poems), and the fabric had a teeny checked pattern. For some reason, I decided to create a design on the checks with cross stitch. I found a vintage French pattern online and adapted it for my friend. I used vintage French silk thread I'd found at an antique store, which added to my overall delight. It was like breathing a new flavor of oxygen! Just deliciously fun and beautiful!
Since that time, I've rearranged my hierarchy of hobbies, and cross stitch (as stuffy as it may sound) has moved into the number 1 spot.
I feel you 100%!!! I sew a bit too, there's quilt tops and half-finished dolls just waiting for me to get back to it...
Your sewing skills sound amazing, those thread painting embroideries and that fateful cross-stitch gift for your friend! It all sounds so wonderful, the fabric book cover for a poetry book, the tiny pattern, the fun and beauty of something new! The vintage silk adds so much tenderness and charm to the gift...what a lovely friend you are 💕
I've started some cross stitch projects over the years but never finished them because they got so tedious halfway. But then I discovered petit point dollhouse miniature carpets! I'm planning to stitch a couple of little rugs for my next project, hopefully I have the perseverance to finish... Any tips or favourite cross stitch channels to recommend? I always find that watching others work on their projects motivates me to work on mine 😂
@@mminmakes You are beyond kind! Thank you for being such a skilled artist AND having the capacity for such thoughtfulness. These are true gifts!!
Petit point is a different level of skill! I wanted to make a vintage-looking rose pendant for a friend, and the detail scared me! I was able to finish it, but it took much longer than I anticipated. I've seen some beautiful examples of petit point on antique hairbrushes, and they are too beautiful for words. Can you imagine brushing your hair with such an object? I would so love to see your work!
Yes, cross stitch can be SO tedious, which is why I initially couldn't pick it up. The monotony was too much. Well, I happened to fall ill and needed to spend many days in bed, and oh my gosh, I was so bored! So I decided to try cross stitch again. This time, the monotony didn't bore me, it soothed me. All the anxiety and pent-up irritation from being stuck in bed melted away because I could mindlessly stitch. After I recovered, I found that anytime I was anxious, I could sit down, put on some music or an audiobook and stitch myself calm. You get into a slow rhythm that has a way of both focusing your attention and letting it drift. It had become a panacea for me!
I doubt I could offer you any tips, simply because I'm guessing your fine work is far superior to mine, but one tip I do have is this: only stitch things you absolutely love You're going to be spending so much time staring at the piece, it only makes sense to love every single stitch!
Thank you for all you do! You are such a gift!
I love it when the algorithm throws up a new channel and it's run by someone so very talented!
Aww thank you! Glad you enjoyed 🥰
Yes! Me too. Brings me insane delight!!
You took the words right out of my mouth!! 😮 so true 👍🏼
Pure Perfection...❤
Same😮
I was a creative little child and I loved to try all sorts of new ways to create. We couldn’t afford much so my mom would take me to Hobby Lobby and we would go straight back to the clearance section and I would get to choose one thing to take home. Right beside the clearance section, tucked away in its own little magical corner, was all of the miniature dollhouse items. I always dreamed of being able to afford to make miniatures as a hobby. It’s hard for me to work with miniatures now because of my unsteady hands, but I still love to watch others work. Absolutely gorgeous and I thank you for sharing your creations with us. It is like coming home ❤
Thank you for the sweet comment! I would've loved to look at little miniature dollhouse things but we never had a shop like that where I live. I'm glad you enjoyed the video 💕
I love that there's a little story to go with the room, makes it a living, breathing room with a history
Thank you 💕 The stories make the room more cosy and comfortable to me!
You are incredibly talented. I can't even imagine how long it took to create this masterpiece and edit it.
Thank you!! It took MONTHS, I was definitely crawling towards the finish line at the end...
I've been subscribed to your channel for a while and often play your videos in the background while I work cos your voice is so soothing and nice to listen to! So thank you for all the amazing content you put out too :)
Hey Shyra, this was incredible wasn't it ? I just got this channel in my feed and was happy to see the creator watches you too, if someone this awesome follows you, and watches your videos whilst building, it one of the biggest compliments you could get, I can see why as we all love Queen City minis too❤
Hail The Queen! Oh my goodness - I ❤ your sense of humor.. i literally lol and smh. I love you videos and i especially love that the OOPS! stay in vs edited out. I gain hope for me yet! When making miniatures videos are perfectly executed, my fingers get fatter and my thimb grows another layer of crusted glue. Its a bummer. Thanks for posting your work!
@@mminmakes That's awesome! Thank you
I had a project like that. It was a monkey on my back toward the end. I just wanted to get it over with.
@@pibarrante6901 same 😆 I feel a bit self conscious over my crusty fingers when I'm editing
Honestly seeing that big case filled with all your specimens made me want to happy cry. I know my things I’ve saved and collected could be so lovely.
Aww thank you! I love hoarding little things too so I'm glad other collectors feel the same :)
Not only are you incredibly talented, but you made me chuckle throughout. I'm glad RUclips put you in my algorithm; sometimes it gets things right! lol
I hope your channel blows up. You're definitely one of the handful of miniature artists that deserve the recognition.
Thank you! My projects take a long time to make so it means a lot when the video reaches people like you who appreciate it ❣️ Thank you for the kind words!
That room would be heaven to me. I love books!
Me too! 💕
You rarely post, but when you post, it's a wonderful piece of art ☺
I've been holding this precious comment in my heart all day. Thank you 💕
The secretary is incredible. I am amazed that you made it actually functional on such a scale. As a lover of Oeben & Riesener’s roll-top desk for Louis XV, I can only bow to the miniature cabinet making. The parquet is incredible too.
There is actually a miniature version of that exact desk! The miniaturist, Dennis Hillman, has since passed away, but you can see a blog post by his son here: keithsramblings.blogspot.com/2007/06/my-dads-model-maker.html?m=1
I can only hope that after a few decades of practice I might be able to achieve what he did 😂
@@mminmakes Oh thank you so much for the link. It's amazing !
I'm not a miniaturist myself so I can't really tell, but your attention to details and even functionality will definitively help you achieve that goal !
I simply adore the second collectors cabinet! It's just amazing. All the crystals looked like candy lol, no wonder you had to resist putting them in your mouth!
Right?! They are so small and colourful..
When RUclips finally realised that I love watching miniaturists at work, it offered this video to me and I am ETERNALLY grateful! Not only is your work exquisite, but the naration is humourous and honest and shows us what it's really like to work with teeny tiny creations. I loved the fantasy world you created and the story that went with it. As someone whose eyes can no longer see detail, whose fingers are all thumbs, and who has zero patience, I'm truly in awe of your hard work! 🌟🤩🌟
Awwh thank you so much, I'm glad you enjoyed!! The subtitles were really all about The Struggle...
I used to watch a lot of these videos but I could never deal with the music they choose in the back, it never seems to match the project. Thank you for taking the time to create such a beautiful experience
Aww thank you! It took a while to put the music tracks together but I'm glad it worked out :)
What a beautiful place, all my favorite hobbies in one place! It's stunning! it makes me want to be 4 inches tall! It's truly amazing!
You and me both! Books, pretty stones... Ah I wish I could live in this room too 😂
@@mminmakes right I have noticed that it forms communities that have so much more in common than we know! have so many things in common and it's awesome! Thank you so much!
Unbelievable, it must've taken weeks & weeks to create. Congratulations it is absolutely stunning!!❤❤
Thank you so much! It took months but it was worth it, I'm glad I persevered and finished hahaha
the absolute perfection of when you snapped on the pretty bulbs and lit up the room at the end! this was a beautiful build 💛
Thank you so much!! I was stressing out over the lights but it all worked out in the end 💡✨
the amount of work put into the flooring alone is already driving me insane, am i strong enought to endure the whole video?
Awww hahhahaha this comment made me smile!! The floor was fun (❁´◡`❁)
I have rarely seen furniture with such a beautiful finish, it's just magnificent. 1000 times well done 💗
Thank you! 😊 The burl veneer was one of my favourite parts!
I absolutely love libraries- In real houses and in doll houses. Beautiful.
Yesssss, libraries are absolutely my favourite room. I'm definitely going to be building more!
This was absolutely the best build I have seen! You are pretty picky with your library, and it shows. If we would take only one or two new ideas from you, it will be worth it. I will watch this again just to watch how you make this look so easy. I've made my share of books, and they aren't all that much fun when you do as many as you did. I can't really choose a favorite, they turned out perfect. My father was a master carpenter, and I remember watching him work. He loved the hardwoods, mohogany being his favorite.
Yes you're right, this is definitely one for the miniature library to watch again and again ❤
Aww your father sounds amazing! Mahogany is such a lovely wood 💕 Making the books probably took longer than anything else in this build.. I did develop a few methods to make them a little faster, I'll try to film it for my next video! Thank you so much for watching and commenting 🥰
This is lovely, exactly what i want to fall asleep to. I like how you just chat, it's like we're having a pleasant conversation 💚💚💚
Thank you! When I watch this video back myself I always fall asleep by the cabinets ❤️❤️❤️
Honestly, you are one of my favorite channels on RUclips. The way your videos are so soothing makes me feel weirdly safe, it's like listening to fairy tales in my childhood. Thank you so much for this channel and I'm looking forward to more videos in the future
Thank you so much, fairy tales in childhood is the vibe I will strive to capture from now on!!
Even that they include a little story of the space being made, who lives there, the Collector was heartbreaking for me, he seemed lonely, lost, always searching for the next big thing. Very soothing ❤
@@georginacalder6798 i love writing the stories of the people who live there. thank you for the support 💕
So impressive. I enjoyed every minute of it and like someone else said, I didn’t want it to stop. Well done and many thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment :)
I am in awe. Thank you so much. Absolute art, beautiful. If I might suggest something (though I’m totally unworthy) I would like to see the Lady’s library with a fabulously big squishy armchair
You will not believe it but I have half a dozen tabs open right now researching how to do miniature upholstery 😂 a fabulously big squishy armchair is definitely in the project queue! Though at the speed I work at it might take me a year to get there...
This reminds me a lot of Aziraphales bookshop from Good Omens, and I mean that as the highest complement I could possibly give. It's so filled with love, care, and attention. This is the most spectacular miniature build I have ever seen, I love it dearly. Thank you so much for sharing!
Ooh, I went to look it up and it's so pretty! I loved the Good Omens book but never got around to watching the show. Thank you for the kind words 💕
Making that beautiful floor the way you did amazes me! Such talent!
Thank you so much! The floor was probably the most enjoyable part ❤️
I fell in love with this video.
I have to thank you a ton for the links to the supplies in the description because I’ve been looking into getting materials for some projects of my own, and this has me inspired to finally make those a reality.
I love this all so much. Amazing work!
Glad it was helpful! All the best with your projects too :)
This is not only informative of your process but a wonderfully calming video, love your work!!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for leaving a comment
I love falling asleep to these kinds of videos 😅😅
Same.. I fall asleep to my own videos 😴😴😴
This is so wonderful, your attention to detail is perfect. Your filming is so real and good, when you were sanding and had some wood dust I automatically tried to blow it away!
Awww hahaha that is the sweetest compliment!
I've fallen in love with your content and you got an immediate subscriber with your Butterfly Collector's diorama! The emotion, personality, and stories you put into this are very endearing to me. I really appreciate your outlook on life and how you notice those small things! I'm excited to continue watching and hearing those tales that inspire me in my life. Thank you for your content :)
Thank you so much (❁´◡`❁) I've been smiling all day at this comment, it's people like you that motivate me to keep making content :)
You’re so talented!! Even my grandpa who’s an artist would be very proud and shocked by your art work!!
Ohh my grandpa is an artist too! Unfortunately the only thing he's shocked by is the amount of money I spend on art materials 😂
@@mminmakes lmao
I love your artwork. It's so beautiful and detailed and makes your artwork look so real. No, not just realistic, but it can move or function like the real thing. I'm glad I found your channel.
Thank you! I love making things that can move like the real thing, glad you appreciate them too 💕💕💕
I'm so in love with this channel already. The build is amazing, but the commentary (is it commentary if it's written?) is lovely. I am relaxed. Also, roll-top desks are my favourite, so I was excited to see one!
Thank you so much! Roll-top desks are my favourite too :) Glad the commentary worked for you! Was debating between voiceover and subtitles, and written commentary seemed more relaxing (❁´◡`❁)
oh my god, the second i saw the wallpaper i said to myself so excitedly "the yellow wallpaper..!" and then you mentioned it!! this fine lady is much happier than she in the story... it's hard to find figures in the walls when there's so many lovely intellectually stimulating pieces of literature surrounding you:)
and you surprised me so much saying you're pretty simple when it comes to props.. your pieces burst with detail and personality! you painstakingly create drawers and cupboards of stones and maps that get closed up! i really admire that, adding details that only you or a person who saw the video would know about that no outside spectator could recognize.. your dedication to storytelling and creating things truly for the love of it are inspiring
ohh you're the first person to recognise the yellow wallpaper!! it's true, with so many books to read there isn't time to look at the walls... thank you for watching and leaving such a lovely comment, reading this made me so so happy (& reassured me about a lot of the details) (❁´◡`❁)
OMG, I adore gemstones and books, this couldnt be more me, you are so talented, I so love this video and all the old furniture and setting, I would be right at home there.
Thank you so much! This room was made for people like you and me, I love gemstones and books too 💕
I didn't want the video to end, it was so good! Thank you for sharing. It's perfection!
Awww thank you! I was worried it was too long so it's nice to hear you liked it!
You work is just insanely AMAZING, special, wonderful, glorious, magical and I am so grateful to you for making, filming and adding captions and music with such care for us to watch and enjoy ❤
Thank you!! I was smiling more and more as I read your comment ❤️
You and your work are phenomenal. You have such an amazing ability to create and the way you think is truly beautiful. Don’t ever stop doing what makes you happy x
Thank you so much! 😊
tears slipped right down my face when you butted that first table legs 😂 (am usually quite the analytical type) Absolutely Enthralling! The entire thing is a work of art. Your improve is sensational. That floor!! That Lady!! It was like watching an opera. The highs and lows and laughter. It's exciting to hear people still read books. i have been watching James Herriot's All Things Great and Small on PBS and look forward to it every year. i again watched in .5 speed because the very best is in the tiniest details. BRAVO!!
Noo not that table leg hahaha I'm glad it gave you a good laugh 😂 I wish we had PBS here, I'd love to watch the James Herriot show! Thank you for watching and leaving such a lovely comment ❤️📚✨
This is a masterpiece. Your attention to detail is unmatched. Thank you for sharing. ❤❤
Thank you! 😊
❤❤❤❤❤❤ ❤❤❤❤❤ 🎉 I have watched hundreds of videos on making miniatures. THIS ONE is by far THE BEST. Hands down/ thumbs up and salute! Wow. You go girl! Its beautiful, and I learned SOOO MUCH. Thank you.
Thanks so much, that's such high praise. Glad you enjoyed!!
I've just found you recently and I'm so glad I did---I've watched all your videos. The word that immediately comes to mind when watching your channel is "artisan." Your touch is featherlight and reverent at the same time, somehow; it is incredible to watch and the delicacy with which you treat your work is so beautiful to me. Especially in the modern era, where a lot of emphasis is put on short-form content and sound effects and just... maintaining an attention span through loud and unpleasant means, your channel is a breath of fresh air. I really don't budge after starting your video... the way you put things together and tell stories is mesmerizing. Thank you for being on this platform, and I hope your channel continues to grow 💕
I have been thinking about this comment the past few days 💕 You're so lovely, thank you so much for the kind words!! This validated a lot of my decisions--like deciding to focus on longer, slower videos. It's definitely not attention grabbing and I've doubted the approach sometimes so comments like these mean the world to me (❁´◡`❁) Just as a side note, I'm going to be making private some of the older videos so I can turn this channel into a portfolio of sorts for my miniatures, so bookmark them if you'd like to return to them. Thank you again for the support ❤️
This showed up in my algorithm and I have ended up watching all of your videos! I know this takes up a lot of time to do but please don’t stop posting 😭🙏 IM ADDICTED! You have a new subscriber 😊😁
Welcome aboard! Thanks for the support :) Don't worry, I'm already hard at work on the next video!
@@mminmakes Thank you so much! 😊 🙏 I will be waiting patiently 🫶
You are so talented and funny… I’ve never seen someone so deliberate and delicate in the way that you are. I want to cry watching these videos, they really genuinely feed my soul like nothing else ever has. Thank you so much for sharing these builds in the way that you do. Doing things, even my hobbies, is so hard lately but this reminds me why I love these things. I only hope I can make such beautiful crafts and sets as you do someday. Cannot wait to see what you’re working on and working towards next!
Thank you for watching and commenting, comments like this feed my soul in return!! It does get hard to do hobbies sometimes, there's definitely been hobbies I dropped for years...One day you'll be able to pick something up again, whether it's a new or old hobby :) I hope you find that joy again!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE your work!!! I'm in awe of how you build each piece from scratch! And the fact that you designed your own room and built it to scale is just inspiring! I am a book maker and binder, and junk journal maker too. So I want to make some tiny book charms and pieces to be a background for my video flip throughs of books. But I'm nervous to start making a miniature bookshelf since I've never made one before. I'm sure I'll be very slow. Maybe I'll start by making the stacks of books. That, I can do! I love your videos! You are truly so masterful at what you do!
Thank you!
You do magnificent work!! I would love to see you make a Wooten desk! I have an N scale railroad layout and I interior detail all my buildings. Keep up the great work!
Ohhh, the Wooten desk is THE piece of furniture that made me obsessed with learning how to make furniture. One day I'll make it! Thanks for letting me know there's one other person out there waiting to see it 💕 You railroad layout and buildings sound amazing! I don't have the space for such models but it must be simply magical to watch the train go round...
Absolutely incredible
