From Cardboard Box To Borrowers Bookshelf: A Miniature DIY Make!

- This week we begin the making of the tiny things to put in our Borrowers clock diorama. We start with a box which we transform into a shelf which we fill with made and found things a Borrower would be proud of!

I am 65 years old and still love the Borrowers
I love the Borrowers, my daughter loves them and my grandkids love them.
Me too! I'm almost 70 and adore the Borrowers. My friend and I made a Borrowers house in the backyard under the bushes when we were 10 years old after reading the book!

I have just reread all five of the Borrowers books my all time favourites (I am 63) , my TV broke six weeks ago but not to worry because Fleur and Kate keep me occupied with lots of laughter joy and suspense and of course inspiration, thank you both, Gail x

Indeed... but, I have to say, and I mean this in the nicest possible way; I found it so refreshing to learn that even you cut things 'wonky' sometimes despite your very best efforts with that 'tablet packet' 3d frame of 'dried flowers'.
I am 75 and still like the Borrowers. You made a lovely job of the shelving in that box and wonderful little tiny things to go on them. Well done you have some lovely ideas and keep us all entertained watching what you get up to.

What fun. Most of the furniture I made in my first dolls houses were made out of cardboard. This looks like the perfect borrowers bookcase. 😊
Magnificent work. I assemble cigar boxes. My 6 yr old grandson has made several mixed media canvasses with me. He is now making a shadow box of birds and hot air balloons, we made the hot air balloons and had lots of tiny birds……enjoying your duo! Sweet memories being made, thanks for sharing!

You could also use those plastic medicine pop-ups as maybe stained glass windows, by fitting pieces of small glass shards, or broken buttons, or pieces of shiny rock.

What a wonderful bookcase you two made of a simple cardboard box, with all the useful treasures in it that the borrowers collected. One of my all time favourite children’s classics.

What a great idea, that mini flower diorama. Just an idea for a tip - when I'm sticking small fiddly things with epoxy, superglue and the like, I shave down a matchstick with a scalpel and then I can get just a tiny dot of the glue exactly where I want it. Also I'll often use my jewellery tweezers to place things easily. Thanks again for more minature fun!

I like to give tips also.
If I was a very little person. I would use the thimble as a cooking pot . The knuckle bone, I would use it as a stool, to rest my tired legs or to sit on. After a hard day of work.
I do Love the idea of the clock as a home.

The eraser part of a pencil is great for holding stuff while you work with tiny things.

The only things I would have done differently is that I would cover the box in paper and glue, making as I go wood effect, the bottom part that dose not open I would make it open. Paint it brown with various browns, and dry brushing, then a varnish.And finally some tiny real books. Still love it. ❤❤❤❤
Oh I love it! Can’t wait to see it in the Borrowers’ “home”! I have a couple of small boxes like that that I couldn’t bring myself to throw away! I am not sure what I will do with them but ever time I pick them up I will think outfit y’all’s amazing

Lovely! The only thing I acn think of to use for dolls' houses would be puzzle pieces. A few would make a "puzzle" while one would make a pretty picture.

So, so charming! Your videos and “makes” always take me back to my own childhood (about 60 years ago) when my dollhouse world was one created with cardboard houses and furniture my sister and I would make. Every bit and bob we found was used in some way to make our dollhouses all the more enchanting and magical - much like yours!
The framed flowers idea was amazing - so creative! It turned out beautifully too!

Lovely! I make a lot of furniture too and I've found if you top it with a piece slightly larger it creates a nice wooden trim look that overhangs by just a dite. .😍

nice job. i loved the Borrower's book when i was a kid (still do as i just reread it after u started your clock project). you've given me many ideas for my doll's house. i'm sure u watch a lot of videos on how to make doll house miniatures. here's one for making plates which i'm using: "How to make miniature plates from paper and foil. 1/12 scale.
