      When you're a classically trained musician, like to the level of being forced to master the piano from a very young age, it doesn't matter what instrument he picks up.

      @@Whaddayamean13 I agree, however he did put countless hours of guitar practice. He would lock himself in his room, walk around the house with it strapped on and would skip social events to practice. Yes he is talented but he also put in alot of work.

    Fuckkkk I have never seen a recording where the crowd goes THAT nuts. As loud as the vocals and instruments were, the fact that the sound only started breaking off when the crowd got excited says it was *fucking loud.*
    The 80s must have been wild. Performers are really missing that showmanship today.

      I was in high school in 1976-1980, and the mid '70s through mid '80s was hands down THE BEST time for rock music!!

      Check out Pantera live in Moscow. I saw an interview with Rex Brown and he said there was close to a million people in attendance. I'm not comparing them to Van Halen at all, so please don't cuss me out lol I'm just saying they also had a crazy crowd. Different kind of crazy lol

    It`s easy to forget just how indescribably hard it is to CREATE that level of Joy....Excitement....pleasure...anticipation,
    we see at the beginning of this video. To maintain and sustain it is breathtaking. Hats off Diamond Dave and the crew.

      When Sammy Hagar joined often Sammy would play guitar portions so that EVH could play keyboard.

      Still that impromptu keyboard solo over the normal guitar solo was insane. Reminds me of Jordan Rudess. I think he might have taken influence from Eddie's playing.

      They were not a good live band the hype was from the fans and the party vibe the brought. Saw them in Richmond, VA ticket was $12.50, Autograph opened for them was my first concert.

    In 1984 this won a video music award by MTV. Eddie Van Halen should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Now he's up there jaming with Prince. RIP to a musical icon.

    Sadly, I never got to see Van Halen live (came close in 2008), but watching this makes we wish for time travel so I could see this live, and experience the sheer energy of the crowd going absolutely nuts cheering at the first few bars of Jump. Musically I should have been in my teens in the 80's when Van Halen was cool, rather than the early 2000's, when I was considered odd for being a Van Halen fan!

    I never liked when VH started using the pre-recorded keys for Jump live. Thought it was cool to have Ed playing keys live, it also made the sound lighter and helped the drums stand out like the recording.

      He WAS a good singer. From 1974-1981 he was on pitch and sang powerful and with wit & grit. Then came drunk Dave in 1982-83, and then there’s 1984 pop star Diamond Dave. I could go on bit he is a bad singer when he’s drunk or pop star Dave, but he did have good chops back in the day. Just enjoy him roll around the stage and jump n stuff lol.... It’s better than what we got the last 2 Van Halen tours to say the least (not counting 2008) 🤣🤣🤣

      I believe he played live keyboards on Jump only on this tour, then used pre-recorded keys and played guitar on later tours with Sammy.

      I may be wrong, but I believe he played live keys on Jump throughout the 1984 tour. I don't think Jump was played again until the Carnal Knowledge tour with Sammy, at which point Eddie played guitar live and I think they used pre-recorded keys.

      I like the fact that they played live rather than relying upon pre-recorded tracks, which they've been doing since 1989 or so. But I DO think he could've stopped playing keys for a guitar solo . . . I think he used to do that for Dreams.
