You can just see how happy it made him to play like that for everyone. For 13 minutes he was in his own world with no one else around him. Gonna miss you Eddie. Rock will not be the same without you playing.
Saw Van Halen supporting Black Sabbath in 1978…no-one had heard of them. Eddie did Eruption and everyone was “ who is this guy ! “. Rest in Peace you legend.
I haven't seen this video since I was a teenager, I downloaded it from limewire onto my old computer more than 20 years ago and watched it every day. Seeing this makes me feel like a kid again, thanks for sharing.
You know I adore this guitar Solo but it made me think how much more people appreciate guitar solos than drum solos, the drummers never get the recognition guitarists do. That crap is a workout
Thing is, a guitarist can do the most craziest shit and peeps will still go wild whereas soon as a drum solo starts most people aren't interested. I think Moby Dick is my favourite drum solo of all time. B O N Z O !!
So unique. I could tell it was him on the 2nd note. There will never be another. I remember cruising the El Camino in my best friend's Mustang going to Baskin Robbins 31 Flavors and this came on and we couldn't get out of the car. We just sat there and stared. It was overwhelming.
This man has always been my favorite guitarist and is a f***ing legend. Cleanest, fastest, most amazing f***ing guitar solo I've ever heard in my life. Rest in peace, Eddie!
Remember like yesterday when I started playing guitar and a magazine talked about Eruption...so I downloaded this live version and was amazed hearing this for the first time. Mind was overwhelmed! This has been my favourite Van Halen performance ever since.
Hendrix the trail blazer then came along Eddie ❤️ man he re-writes whilst tearing up the rule book. Eddie will never be matched nor is it humanly possible. What a legacy
1:011:43 these bendings and squeezies (or whatever they are called) only Eddie can make a guitar scream and groan like that. RIP Eddie you are the GOAT. I can listen to that 10 times and it gets better and better. Listen carefully how amazing these sound. he can kick anyones ass with his tone.
Dont wanta make myself a liar but im pretty sure if memory serves me well. Hadnt seen Ed or Alex in a couple years. Heard about a big deal goin on at the Goldust or Golden Dust Ballroom in Whittier. It Holloween night 1974. My girl wanted to go cuz they were having a costume contest. She didnt drink or smoke pot. She could be real corney all by herself. She was dressing up as mr peanut with the little top hat,her torso was a peanut and she had a little cane and she actually tap danced. I went cuz i hadnt seen Alex or Ed for a while. She was suppose to go on second to last but for some reason she ended up last. She did well. She was tall 5'9" had legs for days. I could swear it was just before Michael Anthony joined the band. I seem to remember Mark Stone ( their original bassist ) come on stage as my girl was enjoying whisles and cat calls and doin bows and curtsies. I was waiting for the long hook to drag her off. Sheesh. Then Ed came out and he strolled out and started just tuning and picking. I was use to it. We all went to PHS. And then he broke into Eruption and the rest was history. Those were the days. We called it the Van Halen Era. 2:22
R.I.P. Eddie - you may not have invented tapping, but you made it an art form. Simply the best all-around rock guitarist.
I thought he did invent it?
He is one of my heroes, not 'cause of the tapping but because of his power, feel and timing. And of course, his technique is marvellous..
He never he claimed he invented tapping. Him and Alex saw Zeppelin live and Eddie saw Jimmy Page do a one hand tapping. The rest is history!
They changed how guitar was written on paper because of Eddie. They didnt do that for anyone else who was "tapping."
@@antayat123 Jimi changed it all...20 years before these guys even thought about being famous
RIP Eddie Van Halen. We will always adore and admire you.
My mom actually cried when she heard...
@@robertandrew5328 im crying and im a dude
I’m sorry, I couldn’t believe your post... I’m shattered
I’m crying watching this. So sad. Rest easy, Ed. No more pain.
I read that as no more porn lol
I cried but because it was terrible and I'm glad we don't have to hear this anymore. Such a bad solo from a mediocre player.

How could anybody thumb down Eddie vanhalen by the far the greatest of all time I cried when I have loved him a great guitarist
The video is two minutes long.
Eddie is such a master, he could have probably played it without strings... and it would still sound good! 🎸
Facts
😆 that would sound funny without strings... 😅
@@ArtGuitarLTX 😁Actually, that wouldn't sound! 😉
@@rickshearer That's why it would sound better without strings, duh.
Gotta tap the whammy bar on the pickups
Damn! Another legend is gone! Rest in Peace Eddie!

Eruption is the GOAT of rock guitar solos, and always will be.

The best live version of ERUPTION hands down
Rest in peace brother. I guess god wanted a live performance instead of having to buy your albums
❤
the part about god wanting to see him in person tells us that god listens to his music (this is some seriously groundbreaking information here)

Alex Lifeson would argue this point.
RIP Eddie. You moved the bar higher than ever before and I watched you do it in 1978
I'm an old Blues fan, but Eddie and Jimi are the 2 most creative guitar players in history.
RIP Eddie. Your legacy will live in rock legends forever
La explosión del publico desde que comienza el solo de guitarra es algo impresionante, se me eriza la piel❤❤❤❤❤
There's a 'smoke' on the upper guitar neck near the end frets--ha,ha,ha,haah!
