It's a nightly check-up: Edward have you been suffered from extreme whammy bar-itis? how about mind shreddingly fast and inhumanly, perfectly accurate and creative extemporaneously created melodies? He's riddled with them
@llcruize It didn’t start out that way. I used to be acquainted with Mammoth’s other guitarist, who co-wrote “Eruption” with EVH. He showed me a crazy tablature transcription of it that really looked like it pre-dated the VH band. And that’s “Cathedral” (from “Diver Down”) inserted at 4:43.
Every time I hear Van Halen I listen to it on CD or it comes on the radio. I start bawling my eyes out. He's been dead 3 years now. October 6th it's coming up October 6th. I miss him. So does the whole world he had tongue cancer? He wouldn't stop smoking. He was the best in the world. I guess next to Hendrix I don't know. But still I mean I'm 58 years old. I live in South Florida. Big 106 is my station. It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter how old you are. You're human. He was so good. I've seen Eddie play so many times live in concert. It's so mesmerizing you just cry. You really do you cry cuz you're happy. You cry cuz you're sad. It's just there. This was our generation. I miss him terribly and so does the rest of his fans rest in peace Eddie, you will never ever be not missed!! I loved watching him play the guitar. You can't take your eyes off of him
The one thing that stayed constant from his earliest bootleg recordings with VH to the reunion shows such as this one was his uncanny ability to play with such incredible accuracy and to stay in such good tune all the time.
I came here to see how late-career Eddie Van Halen could pull off Eruption and left here with tears in my eyes. Very, very good and mind-blown tears in my eyes.
And here he also had his hair grown out just one more time like the 80s. This version of Eddie was truly the best sober, pretty healthy, happy and already a longtime legend in the rock and roll world!
I remember crying the day he passed away, just knowing everytime I heared something of his pushed me to play guitar even more. What a sad day it was, god may he rest in peace
I was so shocked when my older brother told me eddie died, I had only heard his famous 13 long minute guitar solo in the 80s my dad though who is 59 grew up listening to Van Halen even playing the drums to there songs as he loved Alex the drummer and wanted to be like him in the 90s he was completely devastated.
I'm a guitar player and the minute I heard of his passing that very sad day i cried thinking we will never see someone so accomplished and so original ever again..RIP Eddie😢
THE MASTER! No others can do or will ever do what he did! Every DLR tour ,I was there and I was always shocked ,like it was the first time ever seeing him! Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!
This shows he was perfectly capable of shredding nonstop if he wanted to but reined it in to make actual music, something the new gen of guitarists today have no clue about.
After all those years Eddie still had the enthusiasm of a teenager. I like Valerie's comment to Eddie at the end, she said " you're a good man Ed". Never met him but I liked him.
Amazing what he endured , then Lost, then came back again! All of the guitarists from the era have today lost the drive. Ed did not! What a legacy he has left our Generation! Possibly the best he ever played. I'm sure he knew and gave it his all. No doubt
The best guitarist i've ever heard or seen live and in person. I'm biased since i grew up with VH and they were a huge influence. I know there are some all-timers like Angus, Eric, Jimi, SRV, Prince and others but Eddie's my tops! There are no wrong answers, just different viewpoints. Thanks for the memories, boys!
I don't think this is a song it just shows how absolutely amazing Eddie was on guitar and he was a true genius a absolute rock god you will always be in our hearts forever rest in peace my friend 😢🕊️
When was the first time you ever heard Eruption? I was at a outdoor party and this came on, on a boombox and I could NOT believe what I was listening to!
I have seen him David Lee Roth together. Sammy Hagar with him so many times. It's breathtaking. It really is you cry. You just cry watching him mesmerizing. Just fucking unbelievable. I've been to a lot of concerts but Van Halen is the best. I live in South Florida. Listen to w bgg 105.9
Anyone foolish enough to question if EVH isn't one of the greatest guitarists in history, I would recommend listening to this masterpiece - a lot. I promise you will never get tired of it
One can see how happy he was, even euphoric doing what he loved, he was bold, creative, disruptive and eruptive all in one person, we are blessed to get to hear his music.
I always wonder what it was like to hear this and/or hot for teacher on the radio when it came out. He still sounds like an alien igniting a firecracker to me, but with all this connection to rock/blues and fusion guitar....so awesome.
Alga and her rythms just sent me from watching Malmsteen to Eddie. Oh very happy day! Miss you EVH. THANK YOU for helping shape my childhood and building my musicianship between great effing music and bikini clad babes! You were the man and the guitar wizard!!
@2:13 Man, those tapped harmonics, how much I love them. I remeber when I was a teenager starting with the guitar and I discovered this sound from Eddie: absolute magic!
j'ai vu AC/DC à Paris cette année. Toujours aussi fabuleux. Angus toujours aussi énergique notamment lorsqu'il fait son solo sur la plateforme en se jetant au sol comme il le faisait ... beaucoup plus jeune. Long Live Rock and Roll.
Wow, I've read so many accounts of how Eddie became such a trainwreck as his life progressed, and how awful the reunion tours were. It's remarkable to see him so on top of his game in this clip. An incredibly flawed yet brilliant human being.
I live in South Florida. I was there myself. I remember that concert. Awesome. Just fucking awesome. I live in fort Lauderdale rock on Eddie. Rest in peace. I still cry. Big 106 is all we have man
I always remember what Eddie said about playing guitar: "KEEP PLAYING, MAN, KEEP PLAYING." I want printed a photo with the eternal phrase!, THANKS EDDIE!
Eruption was a constant “in process” solo, he never really played it the same twice, always adding and tweaking it through the years.

I prefer the original version. That was perfect.
Who else misses Eddie ? Thank you Sir, for all the great guitar music. Rest in peace buddy. You are one of a kind. Thank you.
By far the best guitarist to ever live and play

Eddie so clean and sober at the end of his life/career------we were so lucky to live when he did

May be at his peek here.

Yes sir!
I came here to see how late-career Eddie Van Halen could pull off Eruption and left here with tears in my eyes. Very, very good and mind-blown tears in my eyes.
Getting to see Eddie lean, mean, and sober in his last years with us was truly a gift.
And here he also had his hair grown out just one more time like the 80s. This version of Eddie was truly the best sober, pretty healthy, happy and already a longtime legend in the rock and roll world!
Love how the solo is like “ok internet, you all mastered my other stuff, so here, do this …. bitches” lol
The eruption solo had layers and 14 different chapters to it😂
I remember crying the day he passed away, just knowing everytime I heared something of his pushed me to play guitar even more. What a sad day it was, god may he rest in peace
Amen brother! I felt the same, miss him, the world just ain't the same!! 💪🎸🎼❤️🩹🙏🇺🇸🍻
