    Can’t wait to try these bad boys out! Apparently these are clones of the JGS piston style wastegates, not the Blacksheep wastegates. My mistake.

    I like that these are still affordable compared to other ones...
    I'm still trying to plan my setup and I'll be going about it in stages, first engine goes in and gets dialed in, then suspension/brakes...then fuel and turbo...My goals for my Lincoln aren't high, I'm aiming for 350-400ish hp...I'm not racing, just looking to make a nice cruiser with enough power to move out of it's own way, keep up with modern traffic....and not blow up in the process.

    Wouldn’t poor gate placement give you a higher boost by not efficiently exhausting pressure??

    • @BadLuckGarage
      @BadLuckGarage  Год назад

      Usually yes when dealing with open loop boost control or just a set boost pressure. When using closed loop boost control as we’re doing it can lead to erratic surging as the ecu tried to catch the overboost and pull DC from the MAC valve causing the boost to fluctuate up and down as you can see in the last track day video. However in recent testing when I take the boost controller out of the equation and just run on gate pressure I have zero boost creep issues which tells me the wastegate placement isn’t the issue at all. I just don’t think using a 4-port and fluctuating compressor air as a reference is going to work out. So we’re switching over to an onboard air setup within the next week or two instead of continuing to fight this current setup.

  • @TennTitans
    @TennTitans Год назад

    If you are having boost control issues it’s likely due to your wastegate tube basically being at a T on the header. They need to have some angle to them or mount on a bend.

    • @BadLuckGarage
      @BadLuckGarage  Год назад

      Zero boost issues since we switched to onboard air. Matter of fact the original setup is working so well now that I never even put these VS Racing gates on and am thinking about just selling them. The problem, as several people already guessed, was actually the oversensitive 4port mac valve. Now that it’s out of the equation the boost control is working flawlessly and buttery smooth. Check out the newer videos for more info.

    What do you think about the gen2 44mm vs wastegate?

    • @BadLuckGarage
      @BadLuckGarage  4 месяца назад

      Never ended up using these. After switching to onboard air boost control everything worked perfectly with our old $60 eBay gates. I’ve actually been meaning to sell these since I don’t need them anymore.

      Seem to be doing pretty well. The black sheep industries gates are the same setup and have been out for a few years now with a fantastic reputation.

      They’re actually exact knockoffs of the JGS gates that Motion Raceworks sells for $500, not the BSI gates. I corrected that in a pinned comment after seeing the JGS gates in person.

    Great video, I just put 2 on my cougar, running the 4lb spring but I’m noticing exhaust coming out at idle. I have the top port open to atmosphere and bottom port connected to my compressor outlet, did I do this backwards?

    • @BadLuckGarage
      @BadLuckGarage  Год назад +1

      No that should be correct. Make sure the valve is going all the way down and sealing against the fire ring. If it’s not then get ahold of Viren and have him send you a replacement.

    • @olddirtycougar6401
      @olddirtycougar6401 Год назад

      @@BadLuckGarage it’s both of them, I’m assuming I’m creating more pressure at idle than the 4lb can handle? Possibly opening it just a little, running 2.5” exhaust to each turbo.

    • @BadLuckGarage
      @BadLuckGarage  Год назад

      @@olddirtycougar6401 you shouldn’t be creating enough backpressure in the hotside at idle to open 4lb springs unless you’ve got a serious restriction somewhere. There’s definitely something not working correctly in that setup. Have you tried the stiffer springs?

    • @olddirtycougar6401
      @olddirtycougar6401 Год назад

      @@BadLuckGarage it’s a rear mount turbo, I haven’t I’m unfortunately still waiting for my stroker kit so I have my 52 year old stock motor currently, I don’t feel comfortable enough to increase the spring pressure. Was more about getting everything set up and ready prior to the 408 going in

    • @BadLuckGarage
      @BadLuckGarage  Год назад +1

      @@olddirtycougar6401 Well you need to figure out where the restriction is now, because if the stock engine is creating that much back pressure the 408 with more exhaust volume is only going to make the situation worse.
