Same happened with the Banana mustang, went 5.78 tossed belt and pushed water. It had the composite gaskets in it too at that time, didn't switch to MLS till later.
Yea I just feel like an idiot for letting the car sit for almost two weeks over a damn belt. 🤦🏼♂️
We have all been there! Love the channel and the honest information! Keep up the great work!
Thanks! Will do!
Make sure to check your thrust bearings. I fought mine throwing belts all year bc of thrust bearings.
Thrust is tight. We actually checked that bad when we were losing crank signal. Great suggestion though!👍
We have been pushing 30-35lbs through a stock aluminum 5.3. Stock ring gap. Hundreds of passes. Not sure all forged bottom end is needed.
I’m not either. But it’s getting one. Especially since we found out the crank was chewed to pieces in the last video
Forged crankshaft is a waste of money, nobody breaks the oem crankshaft. 👍
Who’s “no one” 🤣
OEM crank doesnt have a 4" stroke😉
@@BadLuckGarage 370 cid is plenty to run 4’s. But if your rich build a 400+ heck baller at 427 cid 😎😎😎
@@HeadFlowInc It would be a 359 I believe. Not a rich build but I'm planning to spend between $2200-$3000 max for the rotating assembly when I do it.
People snap stock cranks all the time lol
Glad it was just a belt. Don’t beat yourself up. Good stuff....keep the content coming!
Sometimes it’s the most simple stuff.
I just tore down a 6.0 aluminum block DOD engine I bought at core cost unfortunately it wasn’t the lifters making noise. The timing tensioner had broken and ended up clogging the oil pickup and it had ruined bearings throughout, spun rod bearings, scored cylinder walls you name it’s trashed lol
That sucks brother. Hopefully thats not the case with this one.
Time for an electric pump 😂
Isn’t there a little rig that can test for a blown head gasket? Or does it have too be actual coolant vs water?
Yes you can buy it at harbor freight. Or you can just pressurize the cylinders and look for bubbles like I did. The combustion gas tester is way easier but I don’t own one so old school it is for me. 👍
well that's a great surprise . It's a easy thing to overlook

Shit happens bro 💯 I had to tear a head back off not long ago because I didn't seal a stud 😪 somehow I just missed one lol
That reminds me of the DR Nova China head gasket debacle we had. 🥴
I always assume the worst. Glad it wasn’t serious
I do as well. It’s a horrible habit. Lol.
Sometimes the hardest things to see are in plain site. Actually, congratulations on the "false positive". And now you have the new head gaskets for the aluminum LS.
Hi i have a ls i swaped into a 2000 silverado from a 5.7 to a 5.3.. when starting it back fires smh . Can you help?
Make sure all the engine harness ground on the back of the heads are tight. Also make sure you don’t have the fuel injector or coil harnesses swapped from side to side. I’ve covered this issue in other videos on the channel. Matter of fact we had a similar issue with Chaos Theory on first startup a couple years ago because I forgot to tighten down one of the grounds on the back of the drivers side head. Engine would act like it wanted to hit but just backfire and shoot fireballs out the exhaust. All because of a bad ground connection.
Great find man your doing better than i am I've got a little badass of a turd mustang and still don't understand how the boost control and what'nots tune.. F#cking dumb buddy we all have them moments some more than otheres and some longer lol
Yea we all have those brain fart moments. The older I get, the more of them I seem to have. 🤦🏼♂️
I have the same cage you are thinking about in my iroc. It fit great.
Great to hear! I've heard good things about the rhodes prebent cages.
@Bad Luck Garage they come alittle long, so all you gotta do is cut to your liking and weld it up
I was wondering how you didn't notice that to begin with but the moment you said we've got manual power steering that was my aha moment that would be easy to miss at that point
Moral of the story is, if you don’t tuck in your shirt nobody will see your belt anyways… 🎉
🤣
Nice update
Thanks brother. I feel like a total idiot though.😄
Driving and watching wasn’t paying attention and didn’t see the low voltage light on the Holley dashboard and not missing the power steering since it’s deleted
Good point. lol
Do all the cage at one time it's a hundred times easier to put it in
not sure why you want to put forged internals on a gen 4 ls, just gap the rings and send it
I've explained why multiple times already brother.
@@BadLuckGarage sorry if I missed alot but I drive a semi so that's much excuse, but unless you want to make like 1500 hp then I don't see the reason but hey its your dollar
@@davidcunningham00 We're planning for 1100-1200 at the wheels and want it to last with some room for error, not just be another "run it till it blows" throw away engine.
@William Cordle drives a semi too and never misses a livefeed, lol. I'm just messing with you....but seriously I give him shit on all the live feeds about watching and driving. 😂😂😂
@@BadLuckGarage yeah if we get caught doing that it can cost us BIG time, I wasn't trying to be a jerk
Hell I spent 2 weeks chasing my tail over a bad tank of gas. I was convinced I had a vacuum leak. Changed every hose, changed intake gaskets, carb gaskets, even tried different carb. Would idle but any throttle input it died. Hit me like a sack of bricks on my way to work one day. Turns out my fuel cell lid had started leaking during a storm.
I did the same on steppinwolf years back. Ended up I had over 2 gallons of water in the bottom of the tank, lol.
At least do chrom moly for the cage, so if you want/need to later, you can upgrade it.
Thats what I need to discuss with Brad. Whether or not he feels comfortable welding CM. Even if I end up going with DOM it can still be added onto later if I decide to.
@@BadLuckGarage Just have to TIG CM can MIG DOM, but if you want a cage certified faster than 8.50, it has to be CM. Will TIG CM with er70s2, filler rod.
@@funfun8095 Thank you! He was saying something about that last time I brought it up but I know jack snot about welding, lol.
😶 SMH lol
Mahle
No it was that other company you told me about....Elring. Didnt you say they made the Mahle gaskets as well?
@@BadLuckGarage Mahle, Elring, GM, all made in same factory. I believe it's Mahle (moly), as the company.
Hell yeah glad it was just a belt man! And hey don’t beat yourself up about it I’ve been there done that many times! Sometimes we just instantly think of the worst out of habit! But hopefully can get it out another time or two before winter!
