Absolutly can not wait to see you watch Season 2.
This is all just the backstory for Thorfinns real story, this isn't the beginning, this is just the prologue.

Thorfinn DOES have honor based on his current culture and upbringing, I’d say.
HOWEVER, in our current cultures, I don’t think many would say leaving behind a mother (who Leif confirms previously is sickly) and a sister would be considered honorable. And as the sole male of the family, tying back to ideas of the time, his fathers bloodline would end with him if he died on the battlefield. Not to mention the way Thorfinn is going about it.
Let us not forget, although there is a level of dramatic irony to this, Thorfinn is totally unaware of the reason his father was killed. He has no idea that Floki orchestrated it.
Which is likely why I believe Askeladd asks him in their second duel (but first “real duel”) “did I really kill him?” It almost feels like Askeladd is trying to say “why would a lowly pirate kill your dad?”.
I fully believe that Askeladd took on Thorfinn in hoping he could become that “Artorious like figure” that he saw in Thors (hence why he asked Thors to lead him). But because Thorfinn, like Askeladd says, is idiotic and barbaric (at least by Askeladd’s standards), decided to go with Canute.

There was a point where you said "The man of the house" somewhat disparagingly, and then it was clear how you wanted to clarify that it sometimes is necessary, especially in the past or different cultures like this; having Thorfinn there to protect his mother and sister is obviously not just important but arguably imperative. I'm not critiquing you saying it, I just thought it was an interesting moment; for indeed I think in the modern era 'the patriarchy' gets criticized for all its shortcomings, while we ignore the very positive attributes that it also entails. Thors is an embodiment of the divine masculine; the ideal that a man should strive to be - harmony between the patriarchal and matriarchal energies is what's paramount; like a yin-yang, not quite the same but gaining equilibrium with a cooperative dance.

Yeah, in Germany it is mostly used when men put their wives down, but I had heard it more positively in English but was unsure. I agree that Thors is emodying masculinity in an extemely positive way. =) Adds on to his myth like depiction. =)
