    The reason she has this weird immediate trust of him is because the clerk confirmed that he's Soichiro's son, has helped in investigations before, and he hinted that he's currently involved.
    She's also dealing with grief over her fiance's death, and likely hasn't had time to process or talk about it with anyone, so it's understandable that she over-shared details about it.
    He prompts her for a name (with the spelling) by giving his first, making a disarming quip about how strange his own name is.
    He builds trust by sharing information, giving info he knows the police have, but she wouldn't "Kira can control his victims before death", such a huge revelation to anyone who doesn't know, and it plays perfectly into his manipulations. She gets excited, speeds up to get in front of him, she feels like she's found an ally, someone intelligent who's working on the case and noticed the same things. He remains open, listens to her, and allows her to over-share. "I hadn't even though about that" he says, giving her validation and hoping to stoke her hopes.
    Then he prompts her to talk about her dead fiance. He's re-opening fresh wounds. Prying her with trauma and grief. She over-shares again.
    This episode really highlights how charming and disarming Light can be. How he can subtly manipulate people.

      Also, the Kira investigators had no one at HQ, so they couldn't listen to her testimony, which made her frustrated. She was dying to share her theory with someone, and now she couldn't share it with the police she didn't know what to do.

She's throwing herself into her work to help process her grief and she is sitting on a potential bombshell of information on Kira's ability. So once she starts sharing her thoughts to someone she thinks should be trustworthy, and he validates her, she really can't help herself but continue to divulge info.

    One thing you come to learn about L is that when he talks about sacrificing people is because he doesn't do it recklessly, investigating a supernatural killer is a risk they all assumed, and the loss of the agents is an unfortunate outcome to what otherwise is fighting against an unknown opponent. You'll have losses until you know exactly what you're dealing with, then you can start to make decisions that doesn't risk lives unnecessarily, but at this point they're going in blind.

      Because she's supposed to be a brilliant investigator, and knows better than to succumb to a gain-of-trust ploy; it's an immediate red flag for any investigator, if they were to find themselves suddenly divulging information regarding an ongoing investigation to a stranger. Being vouched for by another stranger is not sufficient - which they did go through the effort to show she does know: not to trust them by refusing to leave her tips/info with them.
      I like DN, but it does have some flaws in the writing.

    • @Vael221
      @Vael221 11 дней назад +5

      @@TheBatSpeaks It is certainly convenient, but that is kind of just life a lot of the time and there are good reasons. Like, both she and L are moving on the same timeline reacting to the FBI deaths. L calls a meeting that has the investigators out of the office and away from home overnight. Raye's fiancée quickly gathers the info she wanted and looks to share it with the police, who are out of contact range because of the secret meeting. Light meanwhile is going to bring food and clothes to the office early in the morning for his dad because he had to spend the night working with L. He obviously goes to the police because where else would his dad be, and she's there probably on her fastest timetable because she is anxious and grieving and throwing herself into her work. It's likely they are both arriving to the station really early in the morning. And then yeah there is a bit of timing convenience so the story can happen.

Like it makes me angry thinking about how hes doing all these things and things just work out for him. Since you said you already watched up to episode 8, it's not a spoiler to say how poetically unfair it is that aizawa didn't see light because it started snowing at the perfect moment. • @TheDahaka1
    @TheDahaka1 11 дней назад +26

    16:00 Light did all that show with the busjacking because his plan was trying to be a hero so that Raye Pember would trust him and show him his real name. He wouldn't have revealed it in any other way, and Raye wrongly assumed that Kira would never let a bus jacker do something that dangerous in his presence. So with all the show Light made Pember trust him, show him his name, make Pember believe he was absolutely not Kira and then had the bus jacker die from "natural" causes so as to further make it clear that it was an accident and Kira wasn't responsible.
    We can assume that, in his arrogance, Pember would have dismissed all his suspicions about Light, so he would have never told Light's name to his girlfriend.

    • @zennonapieronn3734
      @zennonapieronn3734 11 дней назад

      It was not his arrogance, the only one arrogant in that situation was Light. Raye is an FBI agent, working on a classified case, where the suspect can potentially kill by simply knowing your name. He would absolutely, under any circumstances have not revealed his target to anyone who is not connected to the investigation. He would especially under any circumstances tell his fiancée, as it could potentially put her in harms way. He was not arrogant, he was smart (if he died and she was not connected to investigation in any way, she would live).
      And even after truly believing that Light was not Kira, he would still not disclose the name to anyone. For all he knew, Light might no be Kira, but Kira might not even be personally connected with the police, he can simply have an accomplice there, and he could put himself, his fiancée and even his target, Light, into danger.
      Light was the arrogant one, taking FBI agents as simple names to be written down. He did not take into account that one of them might have another business in Japan and would not be alone. He was the only person who knew about the busjacking, so as far as Light knew, this vulnerability died with him. But it didn't. And people will call it convenient or plot armor that he intercepted her giving out this information, but nope, it was good ol' stupid luck. And luck is realistic.
      And that scene is a vital to show us just how versed Light is in dealing with people. He is good looking, so he has natural charisma, but he also knows how to use words for all kinds of needs. He is flexible and cunning. He used the fact the policemen knew him, he twisted the facts into a half-truth, that his father is chief investigator in Kira's case and added that he is helping. Then his charisma, sociopathy and manipulation, giving her small snippets of info to sound credible and gain her trust he seeded earlier. As I always say, his charisma saved him more times than his brain did.

      @@zennonapieronn3734 Light is the definition of arrogance, in that we agree.
      But Raye Pember is extremely arrogant as well. From him basically forcing his girlfriend to leave the FBI, and dismissing her opinions because "she's not an agent anymore", to him just showing his ID to the main suspect, just because maybe he doesn't believe he's FBI (he could have just said to the kid "don't be a hero, it's a dumb idea especially if I'm an accomplice), going against the one directive the FBI was inflexible about. His arrogance caused the death of his whole team, and left his fiancee mostly in the dark, since she only knows about the bus jacking and that he was following a suspect.
      It's stated clearly that he didn't tell her anything more.

Maybe they were just given orders not to show their ID to anyone, under any circumstances. Still, they should have a fake one handy, just in case.

    • @zennonapieronn3734
      @zennonapieronn3734 10 дней назад +1

      @@TheDahaka1 Why would that be arrogant on Raye's part? He didn't dismiss her because she was no longer an agent, he didn't put her down just because he was in a position of power. He did it to protect her. He doesn't want her to be connected with Kira's case in any way. So he told her she is no longer an agent and she shouldn't try to mingle with the investigation. It's not arrogant, it's compassionate.
      Him giving Light his badge wasn't just because he didn't believe him. At that point, Raye was 110% sure Light was not Kira in his mind. Kira, for him, was someone who kills by looks, Kira would not allow a crazed lunatic killer to enter the same premises, he would've killed him on the spot. He would've killed Raye as well if Light was Kira right then and there. But the criminal went crazy, emptied his mag in the bus, which would be insanely dangerous for Kira if Light was indeed him, and then died in an accident, a huge deviation from Kira's usual practice. Raye didn't die that day as well. At that point, they had no idea how Kira kills, and everything pointed out to Light not being Kira. For all he knew, every criminal died by a heart attack. Light could not have been Kira in his mind. So he let his guard down, telling his fiancée about the busjacking and planning to end his investigation there.
      Raye did nothing wrong, he conducted his investigation based on the info he got and based on that, Light got a green light a thousand times over. He could not have been Kira. Light was one step ahead of him at that point, he had no chance. And Light knew that, that's why he could carry out his plan of wiping the entire FBI force currently employed. Yes, it was an oversight to show Light his ID, but he was sure he was not Kira at that point, and he did what he deemed necessary at that point to save lives. Words would probably not stop a young man trying to impress his date by grappling for a criminal's gun. He could've died, and cause the death of more people. Giving him an ID not only proved that he is not an accomplice, but showed him that he is in position of power and experience in a situation like this, quelling any rebelous outbursts innocent Light might've had. It was a good move, all things considered. He should've had a fake name ID though. Basically, it was not him who screwed up, it was his higher-ups and L. L should especially be privy to the fact that Kira needs a name.
      Raye was not arrogant at any point. He investigated according to the info he got, he adamantly squashed any ideas his fiancée would have to help with investigation to protect her, and carried himself like an FBI agent in the bus, employing the best possible actions to ensure lives were protected in that situation, giving up his cover in order to protect innocent lives. If he had more info, he would not give Light the ID. If he had more info, he would not let his guard down and tell him fiancée about the bus. And if he had a fake ID, he would be protected from possible harm. He acted with compassion, dedication, and selflessly to protect the public, ready to put his life down if it came to struggle with the criminal. His actions were heroical, not at all arrogant. He was the embodiment of public servant.
      And you need to remember - by giving him his ID, even if he was not sure he was Kira (which he was at that point), the only life he thought he was putting in danger was his own. He had no idea what Kira is able to do, using him to kill the FBI force. And if he died, it would just finish his investigation, successfuly. He was ready to die to save lives. He was aware he could die any second going into this investigation. And he went into it nonetheless. And he went far beyond his line of duty. He deserved a medal. And instead, he got a death sentence by the self proclaimed god of justice. He and his fiancée are the perfect characters to deepen Light's character and motivations.

    I am under the assumption you prerecorded these, and since you have no translation to the japanese entries, I'm gonna point out a mistake made by light at the end of this episode that will only be mentioned in japanese text at the beginning of the next one. For anyone not caught up, this is your spoiler warning.
    The way light killed her was not very smart. He wrote her cause of death as "suicide in such a way her body will never be found" - However, a missing body in a case like this can provide as much if not more information as a found body. Especially after the FBI agents, this may create a connection due to the fact she was with penber and her body is never found. It has been established light can make them write stuff, so he could have made her write a believable suicide note implying she killed herself over the loss of raye penber in her appartment - he probably doesn't even need to specify the exact wording, but something like this would be much harder to connect to the kira case.

    То, что Кира - сын шефа полиции - очень, очень хороший сюжетный ход. Это не только дает ему возможность получать сведения о преступниках и расследовании. Это еще и дополнительный фактор, объясняющий, почему он не верит в систему правосудия. Представьте, сколько раз за семейным ужином он слышал что-нибудь вроде "мы его поймали, но эти чертовы юристы дали ему выйти из тюрьмы" или "мы знаем, что он виновен, но не можем собрать достаточно улик для суда". Люди склонны говорить больше о том, что их тревожит, выводит из себя, расстраивает, чем о том, что все прошло нормально. И картина для наблюдателя получается искаженной.
    Наверняка он в детстве мечтал как папа ловить бандитов и делать мир чище именно в рамках системы, но вот он подросток и он видит, что взрослые не справляются. Не справляются год за годом. Добавить к этому кучу похвал, как лучшему ученику. И вот готов питательный бульон для комплекса Избранного, которому надо очистить этот прогнивший мир.
    Мне очень нравится игра с цветом. Когда Кира выходит на сцену, мир становится серым, и только его соперник в битве выделен контрастным цветом.

    The reason Ray didn't write any rule or thought he had just before passing out is Kira wrote so deeply and detailed how it was going to happen that since the moment they met it's already activated and does exactly what kira wants him to. That includes from avoiding confrontation to even thinking about the faces while writing even kira doesn't ask him to. That's a rule he doesn't know but follows under the details of his written name. I'm not entirely sure what Kira wrote under him but must be extremely detailed as he was going to take so much risk.
    Also another tip.

    My personal theory about Light is that his first two victims were done out of curiosity, to test the book to see if it works. I don't think Light even expected it to work. He picked people who were committing crimes in progress because he probably thought they would be justifiable killings. Once he realized he killed two men, it really affected him badly and he quickly tried to rationalize it by saying they were bad men who the world wouldn't miss and would be better off without them. He then decided to go all in on a philosophy that really only started out as a coping mechanism. I think for Light, if he can truly bring about a better world through these actions, then he can justify them in his head.

    L doesn't mean he deliberately sacrificed the FBI agents' lives, he means that they died because they were acting on his orders, and he feels responsibility and guilt because of that, considering it a personal failure on his part.
    It's not exactly an uncommon reaction to learning that people died because you gave an order and things didn't work out according to your plan.

  • @bastianossandon2576

    I think L says he "sacrificed" the FBI agents not because he neglected them, but because he asked for the FBI's help, and then they died. Its obvious that if you investigate a supernatural mass murderer, you're risking your life, that's what police and detectives do. I think L just feels responsible for that, but didn't really neglect them.

  • @innerguardianXIII
    @innerguardianXIII 10 дней назад

    There's actually a valid reason why L sits and holds things the way he does.
    He worked with Raye Penber's Fiancee years ago on "The BB Murder Cases" in Los Angeles.
    After they resolved and closed the case, L decided to actually meet her. Unfortunately, he did it awkwardly.
    He came up from behind her and touched her shoulder and because she thought it was some attacker, she threw him down some stairs and he broke his back. He couldn't walk for a while and had no feeling in his legs and fingers.
    After some physical therapy, he got back to his sleuthing (he never blamed her for what happened).
    Now straightening his back + sitting the normal way hurts, so he has to sit that way to be comfortable.
    Sometimes you'll see him rubbing his feet together, he does that out of fear he'll lose feeling again.

    23:50 I waited to see the end of the video before I wrote this, but: yes, I agree with you that it's very forced and convenient that Maki Shoko and Light Yagami meet in the NPA lobby, and also that she talks so much, BUUUT: 1) People in a deep emotive shock feels the urge to talk with other people, to feel relieve... haven't a stranger started to talk with you about his/her problems, on the bus, ever? That happened to me... and 2) Light is just an adolescent 3) He's the son of the Police Superintender that investigates on the case (and that's convenient too...) and 4) He's a prodige child, a Wunderkinder, (if that's the correct German word), that has already helped his father in the investigation, as the guy at the desk said. So you can UNDERSTAND why she talks so much with Light, even if I agree that this is a little bit convenient. But... we will see what will happen, next week, right?

      Your comment is a spoiler.
      Why your comment is a a spoiler:
      You state that it has been established at this point in the story that Light has a strong sense of justice. I think that's false. Light had gotten the Death Note in the first episode, so we don't really know how Light was before he got the Death Note at this point. We do know that Light is willing to kill innocent people, which seems the opposite of having a sense of justice!
      I believe you are using information about Light from future episodes in your comment, which makes your comment at least spoilery.
      Another reason why your comment is a spoiler is that you implied that Light might have been corrupted by the Death Note. You've brought the topic up even though this is a topic that will be explored in future episodes.

      All things Light said in the first two episodes that clearly show he has a strong sense of justice, and that he's always believed the world would be a better place if evil people faced worse punishments.
      And the fact that power corrupts is a no brainer for anyone that has even a basic understanding of phylosophy or psychology. Also, Light was horrified after committing the first few killings, questioning for days if he had the right to use such an evil power, and only afterwards he convinced himself that not only he was right to use it, he was the only one in the world with the right smarts and mindset to change the world for the better, ending up convincing himself he could become the god of the new world. I can't think of a better representation of "power corrupts", and it's all in the first episode.

      You might disagree that this describes actual justice, because I do as well, but from Light's own point of view he has a strong sense of justice, and his father and the police he helped solve cases strongly agree.
      The fact that his motives might be wrong and that the huge power given by the Note gave him a way to easily warp that sense of justice does absolutely NOT invalidate the fact that he has, or at least had, a strong sense of what's right and wrong, and a strong conviction that evil people should be punished and good people should be able to live a good and peaceful life.
      That is exactly what a strong sense of justice is. You can bring an actual argument to the table instead of strawmanning my argument and telling me what I shouldn't do.

      @@storieswithstyle L works on a similar, but different moral standpoint when it comes to deaths.
      Light will kill anyone who stands in his way to achieve his goal of global peace in a world without crime where he will be regarded as a god of justice.
      L will use and sacrifice people and send them to potentially suicidal conditions to get closer to Kira. L don't want anyone to die, but if they die, he usually shrugs it off and doesn't take it as a complete loss, like this time. But there is a huge difference - L would not send anyone to go fight on the frontline. He only sends people who know the danger who know that they can and very well might die and still want to do the job. If they die, they died in the line of duty, protecting innocent people. He will mourn them his own way, inwardly. But when it comes to innocent people, L would not stand for that. Because he is on the frontline with them. He can drop dead from tiniest mistake now. And he would gladly die if it meant that Kira would be caught. He might seem unhinged, but he has a strict moral code.

    So yeah them showing up at the same time is convenient for sure but it’s not random. It makes sense. After killing all the FBI agents Light was thinking it all over for awhile paranoid he might have missed something and after some time decided he should probably check in just to see if he could get any info on the case. At the same time the girl is trying to work out who Kira could be using the information her fiancé gave her so she takes some time to follow leads. Eventually with the little that she knows she thinks she has something and decided she needs to report to L who is trying to catch her fiancé’s murder. You even said at the time why doesn’t she report what she has found and then right after that she is doing just that. What’s convenient is that they showed up at the exact same time. That’s like a 30 minute window at max for them to cross each other and they somehow did but it’s not like it was impossible or out of nowhere. They displayed there stories in parallel so you could have seen it coming if you were looking for it. I’m not trashing on you btw just putting out my observation of it.
