The line about not letting his son go adventuring was a little misconstrued, what he meant was his son will want to be a viking and he wouldn't allow it, not that he wont let him go adventuring. It's not that he wanted to shelter his son from an adventurous life, he just didn't want him to end up with the violent life that he did.

1:48 just want to point out that Snake mentioned that he's a warrior from Miklagard which is the Norse word for Constantinople...The capital of the Byzantine Empire(A.K.A The Eastern Roman Empire)...Which suggests that he used to be a member of the elite Varangian Guards of the Byzantine Emperors which consists of Scandinavian and Rus peoples.

to add another interesting fact. back in those days, the Rus were also majority Scandinavian, originating from a place in present-day Sweden

About the ocean thing, Gardar lost so much blood, and when you are about to faint, your senses and hearing would be dulled, like you’re underwater.

I just want to point out that Snake stabbed Gardar on the right side of his chest, far enough away from his heart. I agree with your criticism of how sometimes the superhuman thing is bullshit, but I think it's worth considering that Snake probably assumed he was already close to death, and because of the situation, he was probably questioning whether he should kill him. Especially because he was already a dead man laying unconscious in front of his wife, and because Snake doesn't seem to enjoy violence, it's just his job. Also, unrelated, Snake is a free man, so Sverkel had no way of stopping him, he was fully in his legal right to kill this outlaw, the only thing Sverkel or even Ketil could do is threaten to basically fire him.

That's a scimitar Snake is using. It's likely he was among vikings that travelled as far south as the middle east/mediterranean. Hard to say what he and his guys did that made them fugitives, but it's clear he's done a ton of travelling.

Blaming this on him being 'high and mighty' and acting like he's greedy is just fundamentally misunderstanding the story. Not everything is about consequences and give and take.

Gardar's death is very tragic, and it wasn''t his fault, he went to war not for greed he mostly wanted the best for his village and his family, but sadly he ended up as an slave, wether he decided to go to war or not he was fucked, if he refused he probably would have been called a coward, like imagine if he decided to stay with his family, he would be the only one in the village to be able to protect it from the pirates and he probably would end up as an slave anyways or dead, well in the case that he would have been able to convince some of the men to not go there is also the probabitity that some of them decide to go to war anyways and the village again wouldn't have enough protection against the pirates, if none of the men decided to go then as Gardar explained to Arnheid, Yngve a very ambitious man would have acquired the iron and it would have upset the power balance in the area, causing again that the village would have been attacked anyways, but anyways he ended up going and ended up as an slave, and then after many years of suffering he finally was able to scape, he killed his "master" and his sons but they were known to be cruel with their slaves so he was completely justified, Gardar never did anything evil, in his introduction there was a woman with a baby and he did nothing to them, he just wanted to get back with his family, then Snake ordered his men to catch him to get the reward and Gardar killed them but he was only defending himself, because if he got caught he would have become an slave again in the best case scenario or he would have been executed, so idc how much Snake cared about his men but Gardar was just defending himself and just wanted to see his family but Snake killed him, at least he got to see Arnheid one last time, if Snake listened to Thorfinn and Sverkel then Gardar would have been alive and another tragedy wouldn't have happened.

Im gonna be honest it feels like this guy just fundamentally doesn't understand what this series is about and will ignore very vital conversations and scenes in order to fit his views. The Old Master has an entire speech about this in the last episode, that slavery came down to bad luck and that any one of them could of been a slave. What Gardar and Arnheid wanted wasn't wrong, it wasn't greed, it wasn't stupidity like he says it is. It was simply dreaming of a life they deserved from the start. Its honestly a shame this reviewer was able to be so open minded for other series while so pretentious with this one

As for the question of whether girls want to go adventure and fight like young boys do - the answer is that of course some do, but it's far more common in boys. It's a matter of genetic predisposition - men have been the ones on battlefields and sailing ships across the oceans for thousands of years; for better or worse, that seems to be hardwired more into men.
You can even just look at what children naturally do; young boys without any outside influence are compelled to pick up sticks and fight each other - it's not that girls never do this, but they're usually an edge case those who do (like Brienne of Tarth in Game of Thrones for instance)
