In this video issue and easy way to modify the rear axle vent on the Nissan titan. After time, dirt and corrosion, The axle vent on these rear differentials do not allow enough air to move through the axle when the temperature rises. When the temperature rises so does pressure in that pressure has to go somewhere. So the weakest link is not active and see you. I have seen countless cases of people replace an axle seals due to a leak in 200 miles down the road that axle seal leaks again. Thanks Aaron for the quality of your videos and the parts lists/details that you add. 2005 Titan - I'd replaced the driver's seal some time ago, but the passenger is now replaced this weekend thanks to a refresher course watching your video - and, while I was there, took your advice to come over to this video and have made the vent modification - having the parts list and links (some parts were not available from link, but having the part detail was easy to find another option). Made the setup easy - had everything I needed out of the gate! The donate link is handy too and has been used. Thank You!!

I just did this breather mod to my 2010 nissan titan SE and used a 1/8 BSPT to 1/4 barb fitting since I couldn't find a fitting with a bigger barb size. I hope this helps people looking for the right 1/8 BSPT (British Standard Pipe Thread (28 per inch)) fitting. Don't use 1/8 NPT bc the thread count (27 per inch) and design of the thread is different.

Logical location, just get the vent high enough to keep the location out of the deepest water to be in. No need to go up much higher since flooding the cabin could result in electronic getting soaked and those inside the cabin are not waterproof. Plastic fuel filters are great for that application.
However, one point....clean the area where the vent is before removing. When you pulled it out some dirt fell down the side of the axle, and most likely some fell inside the hole. And if the new fitting is tapered, do not use any tape, could not tell if that new fitting was tapered or not.

Probably stupid comment. If I have a small axle seal leak and do this will this stop leak or will I still need to replace axle seals?

The only stupid questions are the one you don't ask, the leak should slow down a bit as you fix the over pressure in the diff. However, it will still continue to leak, so it is best to get it fixed regardless

Hey Aaron, right above the vent there's a hose going to the back of the rotor by the axle bearing what's that for?
I was changing my axle seal bearing today and on the passenger rear rotor dust cover notice some fluid all over the bottom of the back of the rotor dust cover. I tried to smell it and couldn't tell what it was, but I think its coming from where that hose goes to.

Did you look into a check valve that could be set at the end of the vent tube. Thx for the video broski

121K Ranchos on my Titan gonna swap them out for some Billsteins 4600’s or 5100’s. The ride quality, lets just say I can sway my truck pretty easy just from sitting and rocking the cab lol

so this mod will eliminate the problem with blowing out the seals and will fix the pressure issue? so im guessing the new fitting is bigger and vents better?

By putting the filter on top you’re restricting the heat to travel. Other wise good job

Aaron, I have wanted to do this for some time. I do on occasion have to drive trough fairly deep puddles. My concern is condensation being drawn into the fuel filter and water making it into the diff. Is there another type of open/solid filter that could be used? I also live in a mostly humid climate. Here is a video with the issue I mentioned. Thanks ruclips.net/video/HJrvNV0tjrQ/видео.html

That is pretty interesting. yes I'm sure moisture could work its way into the diff. but placing the hose 4-5 feet off the ground and tucked out of the way has to be better then just having an open vent on the axle tube, 12'' of the ground. if you change your differential fluid every 30-40k miles like you should. i wouldn't think you would have any issues. but anything would happen i guess. i have came across this the other day, claims to block water.

Would something like this work instead of the fuel filter? www.amazon.com/Uni-Filter-Breather-Push-Universal/dp/B000OO0XN6/ref=sr_1_16_sspa?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1549393588&sr=1-16-spons&keywords=vent+breather&psc=1www.amazon.com/Breather-Yamaha-Suzuki-Kawasaki-Apollo/dp/B07CVWV6M9/ref=sr_1_18_sspa?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1549393801&sr=1-18-spons&keywords=vent+breather&psc=1

You didn't do anything to modify the ventilation on the diff. All you did was replace the old vent hose and add a filter.
