Enemy guards fleeing from combat in Assassin's Creed games.
I could be wrong, but I've never seen the ai in Origins or Odyssey display self-preservation. As for Black Flag and Rogue, I've only seen it in mission chases, not combat.
Games: Assassin's Creed 1, 2, Brotherhood, Revelations, 3, Unity & Syndicate
It's always kinda fun to see Enemies have some form of self-preservation in games.
Usually all of them are Suicidal in one way or another.
Yep. Like Skyrim bandits robbing the Dragonborn literally after he killed a dragon.
Ghost of Tsushima does it really well
@@doryaman Always funny in Red Dead 2 when you just killed 10's of people and 1 guy is left and he's still talking big like he has any chance lol
@@eternityD9 Yea, even after you kill all 5 fellers in 1 second using Deadeye. Lol
In Witcher 3 you can mow through dozens of enemies, but that last guy with a stick still thinks he can beat you lol
Assassin's creed 1&2 were ahead of their times in terms of gameplay and graphics.
99% of those games were cutscenes and it pissed me off to no end
@@Insomniac3d did you play either one?... got look at mgs games if you think that maybe 3 hours worth of cutscenes is a lot
@@Insomniac3d uhhm ac 2 had fucking cutscenes
@@Insomniac3d Don't tell this guy about modern gaming then. Modern games have multiple times more cutscene times than old ones.
@@Insomniac3d Yeah. But both of them were completely different games. One was a campaign based shooter. Other was mostly an action adventure. And I never said it was for everyone. It had tons of cutscenes and I loved it.
My favorite version of this comes in shadow of mordor. Where you can choose between a quick insta kill, or a violent brutal kill to scare away orcs.
@Aaron Warrior Hey brainlet u do realize that shadow of morder is the first game right?
The one with no microtransactions?

Amazing it's like they have some sort of morale system!
They do though? In AC1 guards will even comment on your combat performance depending on which way it goes; if you keep getting grabbed and thrown they'll say "we're supposed to be afraid of you?" But if you dont miss counters and manage to break grabs they will say "how is this possible?". Getting caught assassinating in low profile vs deliberately executing in high profile will also get different response from guards.
Not really amazing lol, ac sucks tbh
Edit: it was 3am and i forgot to say "imo". i think that Assasin's Creed is trash, and this system is really common and used in another games

i miss the old games man. seeing ac1 made me crazy nostalgic
One sad moment burned into my mind was sneaking up on a Russian soldier in MGS5. He turned around and saw me as I was pulling out my sniper rifle. He immediately put his hands up and said something but I panicked and shot him. I still feel like a murdered a real man
Ah, and in Unity & Syndicate it’s just an enemy type. The classic games were truly something unique.
In Origins they do run away but only if they're on horseback carrying something valuable or if they have a bow and they're trying to keep distance. They don't panic like in older AC games
somehow I get those vibes like Rabbit's respawn is morphing himself into a crowbcat

Meanwhile in AC: Odyssey I'm being attacked by a half naked peasant wielding an old rusty sword he found on the floor after I took out all the guards in the area
1 step forward, two steps back...
Yea the latest games the AI got dumber, like many enemies will just watch as you kill their allies from a distance and do nothing until it is their time to get an arrow to the head.
I like how they change the civilian killing aspect, but the cities are too densely populated and it causes a lot of problems. So many unjust deaths because some stupid civilian thought it'd be okay to walk into the middle of a sword fight.
@@dog2man1994 That would be fixed by having half-decent civilian AI. Unless they decide to join in the fight, any civ with half a brain would run away from a big lethal combat.
@@dog2man1994 I've not done that in Valhalla yet, but in odyssey I've ended up slaughtering entire cities because the peasants all attacked me.

As bad as this sounds, I’d love to see a similar mechanic in a fps, say you’re firing the machine gun laying down fire as the enemy comes to charge and attack, and then you see a bunch of them drop, but not cause you shot them but to take cover prone. Or if you kill a bunch of them like we see in AC, then they either surrender or retreat, idk just my two cents here
Ubisoft did that with I am alive game, enemies trick you by playing dead and ambush you when you try to loot them, also if you wipe almost all of the enemies in a group, the rest of them will become scared, sometimes they run, but often times they fight and try to avenge the dead
Also in Metro Exodus by 4A games, enemy will surrender if you kill bunch of them, and just like the i am alive, they can ambush you by pretending to surrender
I know something close to this can be found in tactical fps games. The Arma games maybe simulates suppression, but I can confirm there are actual mods in those games that, if not simply adding the feature, more accurately simulate ai being suppressed by heavy fire. I've also seen enemies in Swat 3 occasionally surrender after I fired warning shots, unloading a full magazine worth of bullets in their direction, or after directly seeing one of their buddies getting killed. The first Ghost Recon game also simulates suppression. I've seen the enemy and friendly ai prone down when under fire, but also seemingly shoot less when heavily suppressed.
Payday 2 has a similar thing. The higher the threat level of the gun you fire the more likely the enemies will try to dodge or take cover (they stop shooting when doing so). Some skills can make it so they actually panic.
@@ustriwijayati4166 I am alive had such great gameplay systems like that. Another one that I loved from that game was that you could threaten enemies with an empty weapon (although not for a long time, since they would eventually call your bluff).

been wondering what you thought of the new direction these games been going in rabbit, like do you prefer the old combat system or the newer ones
Aye and its good to see you again man
I have mixed feelings about the whole series tbh. No one game got everything right, there's always something off... except the music. They always nail that.
Still, I think I prefer the older combat because it was more consistent. Headshots and the hidden blade were one hit kills. That never should have changed.
@@RabbitsRespawn they changed that because they desperately wanted to be like more like an actual western action RPG, odyssey and origins are both basically knockoff witcher 3
@@richardvlasek2445 my favourite is where they put in microtransactions where you paid money so you could play the game less.
@@richardvlasek2445 At least they felt somethwat similar to the AC series unlike the new skyrim one
@@richardvlasek2445 yeah, and it sucks because I love Bayek as a character and origin’s story was just very good in general. I think origins being more RPG like makes sense given the setting. By taking assassin’s creed out of dense cities you must now accommodate for a more open world rpg type game. It got worse in odyssey imo, hidden blade is gone, still can’t 1 shot everyone, combat is wack, and the story was bad. I played AC2 recently and honestly I think AC2 or Brotherhood is peak combat. You can disarm, you can 1 shot counter with swords/the hidden blade. You have the most control over free running with a dedicated grab button, and wall ejects. I just don’t get why they would change any of these things when they give you more control. I can’t stand to play newer AC games now that I’ve played AC2 cause not being able to choose and control the combat/movement by myself is just no fun :/
I can't be the only one who would run after them like a lunatic right ? I mean stealth means not leaving witnesses one way or another ....
killing dozens in center of the city, very stealthy indeed.
I used to do that too.....all the time, my intentions were different though
I always let them go so they can spread the word. Not leaving witnesses creates confusion among my enemies. Leaving one witness creats fear...

I love when the enemy AI runs away or surrenders in a game. And so few games actually implement this kind of system eventhough it's much more realistic. If a bunch of my friends and I were fighting some random dude, and he starts mercilessly killing us, and I'm the only one left, you're damn sure I'm either giving up or running for my life.

Frankly, this also shows exactly why I got tired of the AC games, every enemy use the : ''lets all attack one at a time and just watch while he does a finisher move on someone'' technique. Gets old real fast. The combat in the Middle-Earth game is similar but the AI is so much better IMO.

The AI in these games absolutely sucks. All this video does is highlight that fact.
Exactly!
Well they did outnumber them at one point so can you really blame them for thinking they had a chance? The one that really waited until running was the AC 3 guy, and even then.... he was shot!
Every single enemy in AC1 is capable of displaying self preservation mid-combat following any execution or counter kill. There are a variety of animations, so learning to watch for them is difficult, but they can be used to start another execution and infinitely chain the maneuver until the entire group flees
1:06 what did you do here to make them explode that was sick
It's the lamb's blood bomb. It's more of a scare tactic. The shrapnel and proximity mines makes them actually explode (not really, no major gore on those games).

Seeing enemies flee was always hilarious in these games. I guess they took out that feature in Origins and Odyssey though. What a shame. I also wish they would bring back the meat shield mechanic. That was my favorite combat option in AC3 and AC Black Flag

In Black Flag, government guards can eventually realize they can't win and run away if youre rapidly killing allies without taking damage.

It’s amazing how long it takes this guy to realize that the odds are no longer in his favor. If you look closely you can see the exact moment his two brain cells collide making him realize “wait... he took my gun.”
You can especially see closely that he hesitated to move his left foot indicating that he was thinking of running but was trying to muster enough courage to still fight but instead got overwhelmed by the pressure and decided to dip really good detail IMO
Anc yet the newer AC games dont have it. Really stupid and lazy move by Ubisoft, shows you that they stopped caring about the franchise
This! Indeed! Every Ubisoft game now feels absolutely robotic..
And I still kill them anyway for the loot and satisfaction
I love the time in AC3 i killed whole squad but the drummer. He has fallen his drum but after combat he kept playing "drum" himself around.
I like this because it’s kinda weird in games when you kill 10 people without effort and the 11th person is like “I’ll be the one to get you” I just casually killed a captain that could wipe the floor with you, I don’t care how devoted you are to the villain just save yourself, your literally throwing your life away you idiot.
And here in Valhalla, you singlehandedly butcher 10 over leveled guards on very hard difficulty at a monastery and they still fight to the death (unless you have the terror ability). Good, I enjoy tearing them apart.
Well after a guy killed three of your mates 1v4 running away is not the proudest choice but the smartest one.
