@@thegoldenboah3343Exactly what I was thinking, dude even called AC2 very stealthy. The series wasn't too focused on stealth until Unity. Up until that point you had a choice between combat and stealth, both were equally simple, yet fun.
I like how the newer games make engaging enemies difficult so avoiding combat is preferable during missions, but picking a random group of guards to fight and chain-killing almost every one was awesome
When it comes to the looks i always perfered the older AC style. My only beef with it is that it is so easy kill the opponents, the assassin is always too op. It would still be possible to fix it though by making the enemies attack a bit faster and the parry window to be a bit smaller especially on supposedly tougher enemies.
I'd say AC fighting systems fall in 3 categories: 1 - Flashy, over the top, and easy combat This one includes classics, and Kenway saga - combat is easy, and repetetive, but looks so good that you don't even mind. There's no reason for you to exit combat, or run away, since you're so op 2 - RPG combat Actual depth (to some degree), varied options for you to win both effectively, and give a show, at the cost of not being as grounded as in the previous games 3 - Unity This one is pretty much what you would except from an Assassin's Creed - flashy, but very challenging if being faced with large groups, and very grounded. That one surely wouldn't work in games such as Black Flag, but in a classic AC formula - absolutely.
Brotherhood is the best for me for one detail: you can grab the enemies without having to wait for them to attack (AC 3, 4 and Rogue). Besides, the weapon variety adds to the fun and Ezio is stylistically brutal
Honestly I played AC1 for the first time last year and I think it has the best combat system of the series to date. The reason was because you can't easily and quickly win fights, and most mission objectives were on a timer as soon as you alerted the enemies. This meant that you had to be tactical, and often didn't want to engage in fights unless absolutely necessary. You actually played like an assassin, where you were incentivized to keep in stealth for as long as possible. And when stealth was broken, you were often making a mad dash towards the target, because if you stopped to fight ANYONE they would get away.
Mirage just has hard reaction based combat but there is nothing much to it. Its just hard enough to survive on the harder difficulty, so that u have to plan ur escape routes and force u to play stealthy. Its not really disigned for a huge combag system by a reason.
Combat in ac now is the most unsatisfying thing ever. I highly prefer the unity combat system. You can’t fight like a god if you’re surrounded, since the AI will continuously attack you making getting a hit off near impossible. It always feels good clearing a group of enemies without relying on your utilities.
Syndicate always scratched my combat itch harder than the rest. Unity was good too but i found Syndicate to be smoother and faster than its predecessor, and the cane sword/kukri were an absolute joy to fight with.
I had the opposite experience where I felt like I had to think during combat in Unity, focus on parrying and using my tools, and my strikes having an impact where's in Syndicate I felt like combat was just spam the mouse button, dodge one punch and kill the guy, the strikes and slashes with kukiri felt so empty like there was no force being projected and there was less blood then in Unity which took away from my immersion.
I mean obviously they had more time making AC Syndicate rather than Unity. If only they make Unity just like Syndicate but make the manual jump exist. I believe Unity could be the most favorite game of all time in the series. Syndicate also could be good but Ubisoft appear to remove the manual jump menchanism.
@Matt-ij7pe I have to agree with you my dude! I know Syndicate gets a ton of hate but I really enjoyed a lot of what it had to offer. The stealth is more refined as opposed to its predecessor Unity which can be very buggy at times. For me, the combat was an absolute upgrade from the very slow and heavy fighting style that Unity sports. The quadruple counters are so satisfying when you can trigger them and I love the attack multiplier when you can get to the higher combo numbers. Executing your enemies with the firearm is ridiculously fun too haha. Obviously, Unity remains the gold standard for parkour hands down, but Syndicate definitely deserves more love for everything else it brought to the table!
@chrisstucker1813 Actually when you play syndicate for awhile, and get used to the combos, it's quite satisfying. Odyssey and Mirage were the worst to me.
Make sense the game is supposed to a dlc for valhalla plus making the new combat for ac mirage while ac red is in development is pointless since red is supposed to be the next title after valhalla not mirage it like comparing both ac4 and rogue both share the combat system and rogue was never supposed to be a standalone title too
The ezio brotherhood combat had the most potential... It only needed a few adjustments: Single strike should have done 0.5-1 box of health Counterattacks do 2 box Hidden blade counter do 3 box Heavy weapons normals do 2 box And no auto kill streaks
2:43 - Hahah, I totally forgot about those f-king huge 2h cleaver swords in Unity, with finishing animations where you split the dude’s skull in half and stuff. 😂
I believe instead we should focus on mirages stealth. It’s clear they wanted us to use stealth more in mirage, stealth is way more powerful than the sword. So maybe do a stealth video showing other games.
Problem of AC mirage is that the enemies remain unfazed while they're being attacked and show almost no reaction despite of how fast and hard Basim moves his weapon
Black Flag and ACIII are my top picks for combat. One is a brutal axe and knife native that kicks knee joints till they overturn and bodies soldiers, the other is a pirate that slices them up at least 10 times each before leaving a mutilated corpse behind :D
I really want to see what AC could do with something like an Arkham or Mordor style combat system. Something that can be flashy and has a good momentum to it but also more tactically challenging and deep. Brotherhood has my favorite combat just for the feel of it, but I think Unity got the closest to that balance of challenge and flash that I want. I like that they wanted something more challenging in terms of difficulty for the newer games but a soulslike system was a mistake I think. It really feels a bit clunky and impacts don’t feel like they affect the enemies at all. I want to see a system that helps to show off the speed, grace, and ferocity that Assassins like Ezio or Connor gave, but with a bit more challenge involved.
Unity's combat is without a doubt the best of them all. Somewhat challenging and very realistic animations. AC1-AC4/Rogue were way too easy, although the combat animations were cool. And I won't even bother with the RPG versions of the ac games (origins, odyssey, valhalla etc).
The reason why I think the kenway games combat was better not because it was easier but that it ended the fight quicker, which ties in to assassins being able to do things really fast
ill stuck with ac1 - Ac revelations combat. Ac3 Combat onwards its way more simple. Not bad being honest, i like the animations tho. But the variety of and bit of challenge that gives you the first game... its just amazing (I really miss the throw mechanic and his counter)
AC3 and Unity had the best combat. Yes, 3 was the easiest, but had the most realistic and fluid animations in the series. AC Unity had the perfect mix of amazing mo-capped realistic animations + difficult combat. After Unity it became a shitshow with cartoony sped up and wildly over exaggerated animations that give the game a cartoony feel.
Animation in the old games look slick. But I hate it when they come at you one at a time compared to the newer ones where they try to clap you together.
I've never played Mirage, but rn, the best imo is Valhalla, super fun combat system, never get tired of it, a lot of different enemies, and a you can choose between a lot of different combat style (but not too much)
Best combat are from the modern games. You can say all you want, but combat system is better in Valhalla, Odyssey and Origins than in the old ones or Mirage. They are more challenging, deeper system, different moveset depending on weapon, more enemies-type, melee or ranged skills, shields mechanic or parry system, better physic of impact, enemies are more aggressive and try to attack simultaneously when you're outnumbered... and the list goes on.
I believe Black Flag and Syndicate have the best matches. Edward Kenway's two swords and the Fryes' brass knuckles are insane. Not forgetting to mention Connor's ax in AC3
Ngl the only dream combat I would love to see is AC brother or blackflag kill chain system with AC unity combat system with an additional AC blackflag's body shield for bullets with AC syndicate kill chain animation when ever the enemies are stunned or low health
Mirage, and the RPG games in general, feel like your blade just phases through your enemy, instead of actually hitting them, sure it does damage, but theres no visual impact to your hits, looks janky seeing an enemy hit you as you're mid swing and still phase through, in the older games the animations could get janky, but your weapon felt like it had actually hit a target, you slash, they stagger and stumble, you whack your weapon sticks in them and you pull back or slash through, what I don't understand is ubisoft is very capable of making good melee animations(take ghost recon breakpoints melee animations for example, or splinter cells, even for honor to an extent), they just haven't done it with AC for some reason.
I like the idea of making combat harder to enforce the player to want to be more stealthy, but at the same time, I loved how great it looked fighting off a crowd of people, from AC2 all the way to Unity I was pretty much satisfied with the combat. But in my opinion, the new rpg route that the AC games took kind of just ruined the beauty in the gameplay for both stealth and combat, and I often find myself replaying older AC games just to reminisce on how good the story, or even just gameplay overall was.
I love the rpg combat personally but the old combat and animations were just more satisfying. Especially the hidden blade takedowns because they had smoother looks to them in the old ones the I do like the brutal stealth takedowns in odyssey
I prefer ac4 and I love the gun pistols. Movement in combat looks more realistic the latest ac game. Besides normal combat, I love the ship combat and the open sea. Can't wait for the remake.
For what it is, mirage has a decent combat system, it’s meant to be Plan B, it’s meant to be harder than usual, I don’t like how enemies don’t react to being slashed but the parry system is fun, and the finishers are sick. Could’ve used a bit more variety but it’s in general not bad. Gotta keep in mind stealth is key here.
tbh i just don't like how Ubisoft lied, telling us they were taking the series back to it's roots. all they did was stick us in the middle east again and quite literally force you to use stealth over 90% of the time.
@@rhaego5476using stealth in a game called assassins creed?? Dang. I think people were tired or the trivial combat you see in the first half of the video
@@ZachofPotatoes732 bro I wanted the stealth back, but they've not changed it in any way, or added anything like they used to do in the old games. all they've done is force you to use a crappy system and tell you to be happy about it
In the news games, you don't have the impression to do some damage. The enemies have to much health and the gameplay doesn't justify the animations downgrade. It's just attack spamming. I know in the old assassin's creed the gameplay was not really complex but at least it was satisfying to watch and you felt powerful.
Black Flag was basically AC 3 combat with basically only duel swords instead of all of Connor's different options, so that one was kind of meh. Syndicate had the most fluid combat in recent years on console, Unity was a bit more challenging but kind of laggy and glitchy on PS4. I actually am still confused how Origins and Odyssey came out after Unity and Syndicate.
How did you manage to turn off the health bar and indication of attack in ACB? I wasn’t aware I can do that, but I did something similar by turning on eagle vision before the fight
While there is enemies standing around waiting their turn and push "counter" to win in all these games some are much worse offenders than others. imo I'm partial to AC2/Brotherhood and Unity. I like their relative simplicity of AC2/Brotherhood and the slower fencing style of Unity. While it is annoying in Unity that some of the enemies spam guns I think it was kind of the point to make combat the hardest, last resort option in an assassins game.
You missed AC1, which actually had the best combat ever! Timing sword attacks for a chain combo was difficult and satisfying, and wasn't unrealistic in the way the other ACs had you killing crowds at a time.
Ac Brotherhood, AC3-Black Flag is peak AC combat imo, challenging enough but still provides that assassin power fantasy. Unity is good in terms of weapon variety and animations but the weapons themselves very much function the same way apart from rifles. I liked the hack and slash nature of origins but odyssey and Valhalla ruined it with damage sponge enemies. Mirage is very reminiscent of what AC1 was supposed to be like originally. In the original demo Altair could only take 2 hits before death but could easily kill other enemies with a few slices, making him a glass cannon and Mirage (especially on harder difficulty) seems to be going for this
Challenging? You can literally beat these games with your bare hands, no armor upgrades and without dying. And I'm not saying that I'm hardcore, every action games player could do the same.
if Unity wasn't so buggy it would've been the GOAT in the series though it subjectively is. great melancholic story, peak parkour, elevated combat and strategy driven.
Unpopular opinon. Syndicate combat looks great. Its like jackie chan fighting with a small stick and a blade. Its fast and doesnt go overboard like Mirage combat is.

Fr
When it comes to the looks i always perfered the older AC style. My only beef with it is that it is so easy kill the opponents, the assassin is always too op. It would still be possible to fix it though by making the enemies attack a bit faster and the parry window to be a bit smaller especially on supposedly tougher enemies.
I think unity is the perfect balance, no counter for kill and you can actually feel in danger when there is too many ennemies
just copy Batman Arkham series, adding varied attacks from enemies that need different counters
The enemies aren't as weak they're sort of tough especially when they mix in brutes
You can always increase the difficulty
@@khoivuang7245That is basically Shadow of Mordor/Shadow of War. Loved the combat in those games.
I'd say AC fighting systems fall in 3 categories:
1 - Flashy, over the top, and easy combat
This one includes classics, and Kenway saga - combat is easy, and repetetive, but looks so good that you don't even mind.
There's no reason for you to exit combat, or run away, since you're so op
2 - RPG combat
Actual depth (to some degree), varied options for you to win both effectively, and give a show, at the cost of not being as grounded as in the previous games
3 - Unity
This one is pretty much what you would except from an Assassin's Creed - flashy, but very challenging if being faced with large groups, and very grounded.
That one surely wouldn't work in games such as Black Flag, but in a classic AC formula - absolutely.
I love Haytham's kill animation, so elegant like Ezio.
Brotherhood is the best for me for one detail: you can grab the enemies without having to wait for them to attack (AC 3, 4 and Rogue). Besides, the weapon variety adds to the fun and Ezio is stylistically brutal
Unity's combat was really fun and challenging at some points
Unity had the best combat to me..
Same
Honestly I played AC1 for the first time last year and I think it has the best combat system of the series to date.
I agree i think ac1 has the best mechanics it was unique but the gameplay loop is what drags the game down
I always hate when the game has timers.
This year, I've played all games till Unity so far and imo I can say combat in AC3 and Blackflag is the best in the franchise. (for now)
Seeing the combat from ACB, nostalgia hitted me🥰 But I remember how easy it was
I said that to my new gamer friend that ac brotherhood is easy to learn but why tf they always die!!
Mirage just has hard reaction based combat but there is nothing much to it.
Its just hard enough to survive on the harder difficulty, so that u have to plan ur escape routes and force u to play stealthy.
Its not really disigned for a huge combag system by a reason.
Playing Black Flag for the first time recently the combat is honestly satisfying
@Matt-ij7pe
I have to agree with you my dude!
Mirage combat looks super clunky.
Mirage and syndicate have the worst combat by far.
Combat is like typical other RPG AC
Uploader legit sucks at playing games tbh
@chrisstucker1813 Actually when you play syndicate for awhile, and get used to the combos, it's quite satisfying. Odyssey and Mirage were the worst to me.
Out of all the RPG games Valhalla had best combat hands down the Gore was a bonus too
In Black Flag the NPC’s are actually smart, like you can’t just hide in a bush and then they will forget about you
It's so lazy seeing the enemies in mirage barely flinch when hit, it just makes no sense.
Make sense the game is supposed to a dlc for valhalla plus making the new combat for ac mirage while ac red is in development is pointless since red is supposed to be the next title after valhalla not mirage it like comparing both ac4 and rogue both share the combat system and rogue was never supposed to be a standalone title too
Still better than every hit knocking them back by about three miles like in Odyssey.
The ezio brotherhood combat had the most potential... It only needed a few adjustments:
Single strike should have done 0.5-1 box of health
Counterattacks do 2 box
Hidden blade counter do 3 box
Heavy weapons normals do 2 box
And no auto kill streaks
I have played 3 Assassin's Creed games Syndicate, Odyssey & Origins and the combat was amazing in each game
Should have included revelations. Most brutal animations there
2:43 - Hahah, I totally forgot about those f-king huge 2h cleaver swords in Unity, with finishing animations where you split the dude’s skull in half and stuff.
Hands down Unity, it was slightly less forgiving and could become challenging based off quipments and upgrades.
They did a really good job on Unity how they made it look nextgen for 2014 game well on pc it’s amazing
Black Flag and ACIII are my top picks for combat. One is a brutal axe and knife native that kicks knee joints till they overturn and bodies soldiers, the other is a pirate that slices them up at least 10 times each before leaving a mutilated corpse behind :D
I wish they’d make a new AC game with brotherhood combat mechanics again
Assassins creed 3 and black flag was the best combat assassin creed games. Unity was the last real assassin creed game
I don't know which one is the best but I can easily pick which one is the worst
AC Unity doesn't have the best combat system but it is definitely my favorite AC combat system so far.
Unity's combat is without a doubt the best of them all. Somewhat challenging and very realistic animations. AC1-AC4/Rogue were way too easy, although the combat animations were cool. And I won't even bother with the RPG versions of the ac games (origins, odyssey, valhalla etc).
Unity, that game was best in the series, overridden by technical difficulties but suffice to say it is a true AC game.
Those pistol swords were goat!
All combat Styles are different but unique in there own way
Animation in the old games look slick. But I hate it when they come at you one at a time compared to the newer ones where they try to clap you together.
i think the combat in ac unity and syndicate deserve more props
In the AC4 You could literally feel you are a god with those combats, it was easy back then
I've never played Mirage, but rn, the best imo is Valhalla, super fun combat system, never get tired of it, a lot of different enemies, and a you can choose between a lot of different combat style (but not too much)
Brotherhood was by far the best! I honestly miss the kill streak in that one!
Ac unity
The beauty of sword clash
Unity and ac2's combat is the best imo
Unity has the best everything. You could fight with so many different weapons. Most hated but the best in literally every aspect of the game
Other than the shield system what you described fits unity pretty well
Syndicate had the most satisfying sounds
Brotherhood is the only aoc game i played properly and a lot of people say tis the best one.
I got licky
unity was the best, pleasing to look at while also not being braindead easy like 4 and 2
I believe Black Flag and Syndicate have the best matches.
Edward Kenway's two swords and the Fryes' brass knuckles are insane. Not forgetting to mention Connor's ax in AC3
Ngl the only dream combat I would love to see is
AC brother or blackflag kill chain system with
AC unity combat system with an additional AC blackflag's body shield for bullets with
AC syndicate kill chain animation when ever the enemies are stunned or low health
The old AC combat may not have been the most in depth combat but at least it had flair and style.
AC 3 had the best combat system in my opinion. Tomahawk/ rope dart was my favorite all time combo in any AC game.
"Oh yes we all can't rush the assassin all at once because that would be against the game mechanics. . ."
It used to be so fun and enjoyable when you could just take on armies of npcs, nowadays you can only be stealthy or else you're dead
Valhalla origins odyssey mirage 😮💨
Bro why does Basim's blades go through the enemy like he's air
One thing I don't like is how the characters will move with lower frame rates and also be shaking kind of in the newer games.
Sweet video!
Kenways never hesitate whether they are templar or assassins
For what it is, mirage has a decent combat system, it’s meant to be Plan B, it’s meant to be harder than usual, I don’t like how enemies don’t react to being slashed but the parry system is fun, and the finishers are sick. Could’ve used a bit more variety but it’s in general not bad. Gotta keep in mind stealth is key here.
tbh i just don't like how Ubisoft lied, telling us they were taking the series back to it's roots. all they did was stick us in the middle east again and quite literally force you to use stealth over 90% of the time.
@@rhaego5476 that is back to the roots, AC1 had you doing that
That’s what they did in origins except the hits were more responsive
@@rhaego5476using stealth in a game called assassins creed?? Dang. I think people were tired or the trivial combat you see in the first half of the video
@@ZachofPotatoes732 bro I wanted the stealth back, but they've not changed it in any way, or added anything like they used to do in the old games. all they've done is force you to use a crappy system and tell you to be happy about it
I spent hours kill chaining in AC Brotherhood training simulator
I think ac3 was the best
Brotherhood is still the best when it comes to combat mechanics of this whole series..
You missed AC1, which actually had the best combat ever! Timing sword attacks for a chain combo was difficult and satisfying, and wasn't unrealistic in the way the other ACs had you killing crowds at a time.
Is that a joke
Ac1 is a good game and I have fond memories but who are you kidding.
Unity and Ac3 have the best combat, they are the games where it is most realistic
How does 2014 Unity graphics look better than 2023 Mirage...
Personally Brotherhood is still the best
classic "quick time event" combat
AC 3 Combat the best
I like Connor Kenway's hidden blade combat.
Unity have some weight added to its combat system to complement different weapons in used and armor.
Black Flag and Brotherhood. If I had to choose one, I would go with Brotherhood.
if Unity wasn't so buggy it would've been the GOAT in the series though it subjectively is. great melancholic story, peak parkour, elevated combat and strategy driven.
Unity is my second favorite behind black flag. Unity is better but I’m a sucker for pirates
Unity combat animation systems looks more realistic in my subjective opinion
Black Flag combat looks good visualy, but its so easy even a baby can play it.
Unpopular opinon. Syndicate combat looks great. Its like jackie chan fighting with a small stick and a blade. Its fast and doesnt go overboard like Mirage combat is.
For some reason seeing enemy healthbars just pisses me off especially for a franchises like assasins creed when the kills is supposed fast, brutal and sneaky
