  • Let's take a minute to discuss the differences between the Berkeley "Jet-O-Vator" and a Place Diverter. These two items are intended to do the same thing... allow trim control of your #jetboat. However, the concept of operation is radically different between the Berkeley Jet-O-Vator and the Place Diverter. "What are the differences between these two units" is a very frequently asked question. Fortunately, I happen to have one of each in my shop right now, so I took a few minutes to discuss the differences between these two units.
    The Jet-O-Vator and Place Diverter are both good pieces. In short, they both do the same thing... trim the attitude of the boat. How they get those results is radically different. If you are looking to maximize the amount of roost you can throw, you might want to watch this video to learn the differences between these two units.

    I mistakenly misspoke in the video. You can install a Jet-O-Vator on a non split Berkeley bowl. How ever you do need to remove the bowl from the suction housing and rotate it 90 degrees. This will allow the proper pin location for the Jet-O-Vator.
    However the downside is that on Berkeley bowls they have provisions to fill the rear busing oil cavity, and they will now be positioned on the side, not the top.

    Good informative video. I have been wanting to get a open bow jet bow for some time now for the river near Topock. I think the drag and internal pump turbulence are huge, it would be interesting to see the volume of water each of them flow.

    I've had a Jet-O-Vator with a manual control I switched it to the electric control, the manual control was much better in my opinion. The electric control box used a GM station wagon rear window motor and it was slow.

    I went ahead and ordered the "Exact Weld" reverse bucket and trim nozzle. It will be a bit before I get it installed but it looks really good, very well built. I'm doing some work on the engine and want to do some testing with current Berkeley stuff so I can compare them.

      I do not have a video on droop snoots. I will be adding on to my boat during this build, so I may cover it a bit.

    When a jet boat is on plane the steering nozzle is not in the water. A stock steering nozzle which is what the jetovator uses does not drag and cause a performqnce loss. I like the Place Diverter and have used them forever but facts are facts.

    question for you, i have a berkeley with a hardin loader and was wondering how much it affects top speed.?

    • @AutoTechNick
      @AutoTechNick  27 дней назад

      Really hard to say. Items like loaders, droops, and shoes all effect the performance of each boat differently. One setup may work really well on one boat, and not at all on another. Its a matter of trial and error to find the right setup that your powerplant, and hull like.

    I disagree about reverse being almost non existent on jet boats, I can dunk the bow on mine going from forward to reverse!

    Are they still using a droop snoot?

    • @AutoTechNick
      @AutoTechNick  9 месяцев назад

      A droop snoot is an optional item that can be run on either of these nozzles.

      The Place Diverter is a much newer and well thought out unit. They did a great job of improving and refining the original design of the jet o vater.

    Jet o vator is garbage

    • @AutoTechNick
      @AutoTechNick  11 месяцев назад

      I wouldn't say that they are garbage. Is it the right unit for a high-end race boat with no budget... No, it is not.
      But if one is already installed on a guy's average mini cruiser family boat, does he need to take it off and replace it with a Place Diverter... No
      They each have their place and application.

      @@AutoTechNick berkley should npt exist with that cheap performance. Now i wamma see a comparison between a berkley and a jaccuzi jet. Then do a scott jet comparison
