You definitely believe in doing things right . There are no sidewalks when your on the water . So many people just don't think when they are working on boats . Great work . Your videos are very educational and helpful .
Hey Frisco! Just started watching all of your video over the last few days and love all the info. I purchased a 2000/2001 Sea Ray Sundeck Sept. of last year, so being that we are in Jersey, I have only used it once so far, and am getting it ready for the upcoming season...man I wish I lived somewhere warm where I could use the boat a lot more lol. Anyway, I am no where near as mechanically inclined as you seem to be, so I hope I don't have to do too much (fat chance right lol). With that said, there are def. things I will be able to do...winterization, getting it ready for a season, and just replaced the Trim Ram Cylinders, and now have to install the Continuity Grounding Kit, as one of the wires running from Outdrive to Cylinder is missing...all no brainer stuff. Anyway, as I was watching you replace all of your gauges, I notice that it looks like you have a factory installed depth finder. This is where my question is. I have a Lowrance 3500 that the display is not working correctly...numbers have missing bars. The problem is, I cannot find a Lowrance 3500 to do a direct swap with, and all of the updated versions seem to be running different frequencies where I would need to rewire...so I am told. Any possibility of doing a "How To" video on this? Any advice or tips on how difficult it would be for me to upgrade? Sorry for the long message.
The Fuel Gauge gets a purple positive feed from the ignition switch. The sender is really a variable resister to ground. The sender wire goes from the gauge to a post on the fuel sender. The sender then needs to have another post that goes to a solid ground like the engine block. The sender will increase or decrease the electrical resistance based on the fuel level. The gauge then, is really just showing you how much resistance there is to ground.
I had an old Arrowglass for about 28 years and never paid much attention since I didn't have to do much to it. With a much newer '00 Sea Ray 210 BR, now, and not being the owner for the first 13 years, there have been several things to catch up. Plus I have a wiring diagram provided by the mfr. So you start paying attention to the smaller details. Your videos are a great resource. Like to see you do a video on the large socket connector by the engine. Mine has taken a set to it and is not making good connection for the Temp Guage, "Tan wire."
Great Video! Do you have links were you purchased the gauges? I have a 1994 American Skier and these white gauges are a perfect match. Thank you for taking the time to share this video
Thank you, so much for this video. My old pontoon I inherited is nowhere near as fancy but the concept is the same and the console is the only part that I haven't rebuilt and recovered because I was leary of the wiring.
The movement in that type of gauge is based on a volt meter design. Inside the meter case is a resistor in series with the signal from the external sensor. The meter movement(volt meter) measures the voltage drop across the internal resistor, resulting in gauge operation. If the resistor goes bad or the connection to the resistor opens the meter will either peg or not work at all. Its not usually the external sensor. I have two meters with a permanent residue on the inside of the meter lens that is a result of moisture intrusion. The gauges work fine, can barely read the output. After 14 yrs. the bezel seal has probably dried out and moisture and mold have built up.
Great Video! I was wondering if you would know if I replaced my old Mariner/Merc outboard motor, do I need to change gages? I bought a new Suzuki and was told I need new RPM and MPH gages.
Nice looking gages. Are they American made? There is a company here in Connecticut called Thomas G Faria And they make gages in house and a lot of the boats with Johnson motors come with them Kabota tractors come with them. They offer many different style fascias. They're good quality gages. Made entirely in USA!!
great video very knowledgeable quick question for you when you install a trim gauge is there any calibration being done to this or do you just simply install the gauge
The gauges look nice the Royal Blue looks better. I need to do my gauges this year. Two sets fun fun fun. Well acually three a Oil, Temp, and Hours gauge will be in the engine well too.
I think your problem is the sending unit must be the same make as the gauge,, I had the same problem with a boat I bought and the oil and temp didn't work right,, they both would peg when key on,, I found out the motors were replaced and they didn't use the original sending units and the new ones didn't match the gauges,, after they were changed they worked great,,
There are standard wire colors for marine applications, i.e. Temp Guage is "Tan." You can look up the others. Its an industry standard that all the mfr's follow as NMMA members.
bee bop You are correct, but for some reason back in the 80s they tended to not follow them for a few years. I have had alot of experience with this, and you cannot assume anything.
Okay I have a quick question i replaced the switches on my boat with a new switch panel and the rocker switches are illuminated, i have currently grounded my switch lights with the ground on my fuel gauge will that cause any problems?
How unfortunate. A little bit misleading! If you are replacing the Gauges in your Boat, you'll want to know the Senders Ohm Resistance values, to be able to match it to the correct Gauge!!! How to install Gauges in your Boat is probably a bit more of an accurate description, only this Guy did not really show people what he was doing. I was looking for the former!
hi frisco, on the fuel gauge, does it need its own ground and power? same for my send unit does it need its own power and ground? i want to get it correct and not have to redo this again no time soon lol
Is there a reason you could not have pulled the gauges out with the wires still connected, connect the wires to the new gauge outside the console and then install the new gauges? Am I missing something?
Why in the world does this guy think that he needs to explain where he is working on the boat? I mean, just show me the process. I mean wind speed and how nice the guys are at the storage area. I wonder what you ate for breakfast?
Hey Frisco. I remember you when you first started out. You have come a long way and your work knowledge and work ethic has never wavered.
You definitely believe in doing things right . There are no sidewalks when your on the water . So many people just don't think when they are working on boats . Great work . Your videos are very educational and helpful .

The royal blue looks good it will match the blue one the boat, also looks a lot cleaner with white gauges on a darker dash stands out
Great video well explained. My oil pressure gauge don’t work at all but my motor works perfect and oil is all clean and level is perfect

What brand of gauges and where did you pick them up? Also, 4 years in, are they still working well?
great video very knowledgeable quick question for you when you install a trim gauge is there any calibration being done to this or do you just simply install the gauge

i hope you get pay from you tube you are a really nice and helpful guy .
Carlos Gomez um 30,000 view for about $500 so ya he’s making a good chunk
Awesome! Thanks a lot and your rebuild videos are the best! Your Sea Ray looks great!
Hi Frisco. Where did you get these gauges? I like the look and these would be perfect on my Sea Ray.
Great video do you have the link for the gauge set I'm not on Facebook I'm an old man lol
just remove the oil lines. cap the barbs. Remove the little oil pump. and cover the hole with a delete plate. hope it helps!

Purple for the "I" terminal is very common in boat wiring, as it is a key on hot 12v.
Go with the royal blue!! Nice intro, how are you liking your mac?
transparent nail polish can be used to tint bulbs.
I have a tach with hour meter. The hour meter works then when you turn off key and back on it goes to zero. Do you know how to fix
OP do you happen to have the brand on those gauges looking to upgrade mine and like the look of those.
Awesome! Video Put together awesome! Like a pro!
Good timing - just about to do this myself! Thanks for sharing!
@cturboaddict Not sure where you would get the brackets. Mine already had them. I bet you can make them out of some metal.
I have a gauge light not working. Are you able to just replace the light or entire gauge? Its a Ranger 1880 MS.

Got a cuddy cabin Capri boat 5 gauges what will match
I'm looking for a boat storage. Can you recommend one in Frisco? I'm local to you.
They are kinda hard to find. There is a good one in Mckinney I use called Compass Self Storage.
How unfortunate. A little bit misleading! If you are replacing the Gauges in your Boat,

I was looking for the former!
How do you replace the light bulb on the speedometer?
Your Kidde fire extinguisher may have been recalled. Check it.
Love these boat videos
Glad you like them
if i have a yammaha 2004 115 2 stroke can i change the analogue gauges yo digital
Can you give me link for the gauge I got 2004 bayliner 195 I need set of gauge please
hi frisco, on the fuel gauge, does it need its own ground and power?
same for my send unit does it need its own power and ground?
i want to get it correct and not have to redo this again no time soon lol
Mr Lionie i
Looks great!
Where did u get the gauges?
hey were did u but them gages at can u put up a link please thank you
Merci beaucoup ❤❤❤❤❤
Is there a reason you could not have pulled the gauges out with the wires still connected, connect the wires to the new gauge outside the console and then install the new gauges? Am I missing something?
Good question. The gauges have a bezel on them that only allowed them to come out from the front.
remember when fuel was $5? i almost forgot about that.
cool video,keep em coming
Couldn't you just unscrew that plastic dash and pull it forward to get much easier access to all them gauges?
I am working on it bro.
You should install an Ah gauge!
if you have expense list available will be awesome.
I like the royal blue myself.
Can I have the links for the gages
Is that gages fit my boat too ?
You don't show how to remove the gauges, I'm sure the wires aren't what keep it secured to the dashboard.
Electrical wire nuts are for houses!!
ring terminal
Great lakes skipper on ebay
How
thank you
ooooooooooo NICE!
Drag it out
Why in the world does this guy think that he needs to explain where he is working on the boat? I mean, just show me the process. I mean wind speed and how nice the guys are at the storage area. I wonder what you ate for breakfast?
talks alot
hi i got a 97 polaris jet ski and want to make it premix if you could help me i would apprcate it
Dammit man make some more videos
how do you secure the gauge to the dashboard?
