Guitar gear alert here! If you look real close you can see that both Dickey and Dan are using their neck pickups to solo. If you look really, really close, you can see that Dan has the bass side of his pickup lowered below the level of the plastic mounting ring, and the treble side of the pickup up closer to the strings. Dickey has the entire pickup level and slightly below the level of the mounting ring. I remember reading that both Dickey and Gary Richrath used to lower their pickups and raise the action, the idea being that they would get less magnetic pull on their strings, and more sustain as a result.
Toler sounds fantastic, but Betts is always doing what you won’t expect next - it’s why he’s up there with my absolute heroes on the guitar. Keep people guessing, it blows a more straightforward solo out of the water
Through the years, I keep coming back to this video to listen to Dan Toler´s Solo. Dan Toler on Beast Mode.
One of the greatest rock songs ever written. Period.
Rest In Peace Dickey.
Killer solo from Dan Toler.
Dan Toler is as fluent a player as I've ever seen . It's assertiveness and impeccable timing that makes the special ones
Dickie Betts is one of the greatest. His style and writing is incomparable. If you don't know it, go back to school. Warren is an acomplished player also. No pissing contest.
God, this is the quintessential Southern blues-rock epic.
Greg Allman, while he was alive, had Rock’s coolest voice…
Toler’s entire solo is unreal.
Man, you can feel the energy. They are on fire. Top of the game
Okay that close up shot of his face and you can see his fingers dancin on the fretboard in the reflection of his sunglasses… fuckin sick
Dan could make a guitar SING!! I like how he thee in a few Duane licks at the beginning of his solo. Much respect.
As the day I first saw this in 82 on MTV and even now in 2021, I am still fixated on Dangerous Dan Toler's solo. Still in awe of how he remembered all that. Omg, the stamina.
Dangerous Dan Toler is amazing with that solo. Love how Betts steps out and gives Toler center stage. Then later Betts does his usual thing - just kicks ass.
I'm greatful to have seen the Allman Brothers 4x 73-88.
For many years have loved their music. I’m 66 still listening to it
What a great singing, love that raspy voice. RIP Gregg
Dickey has always been my favorite brother, he is one of the best of the best.
