Derek is a national treasure. He’s carried the legacy of his famous uncle and his band mates, in addition to creating his own wonderful style we have the privilege of hearing now.
Some of the intentionally bizarre melodies Derek is playing that have the most abstract relationships to the actual groove, are just insanely cool. ESPECIALLY when he then roars in at the end to show he can hit EXACTLY the notes your ear wants, too. The man is absolutely a Top-10 rock guitarist in music history. Stunningly original.
I cannot overstate the brilliance of the drummers in the early stages of this, bringing it up and back down as Derek does. It's phenomenal. And Derek does OK too :D
It's amazing to me how the continuation of the spirit of Allman Brothers music lives on and continues through the children Spawned from this band. Having heard several of the kids Play, It's almost like Duane and Gregg still live through them while adding their own touches that are phenomenal.
The Allman Betts band is also impressive. Saw them open for BlackBerry Smoke. Devon Allman and Duane Betts can play. Also the bass players dad was an original member.
Pouring their hearts out, with a deep respect of one another, and their band. Susan has, in my words, stomped the can! This band lovingly competes to make better music every show.
Derek trucks is just a perfect example of hard work and determination and of course God Given talent. I’m so glad that I have found you and your work. So refreshing to hear a guitar player who plays what you need to hear vs a guitarist who plays what they think you want to hear.
While Derrick is a 1 of 1 generational talent, I can get over how tight those 2 drummers and the rest of the band are. All of those players and nobody gets stepped on Just incredible.
Made all three shows last week in Boston, and would to say thanks to all the band members who showed up and played every show like it was there last. Watching the pride in Susan's parents at the opening show was especially touching. What a rush of emotions all around!
When you see there are two drummers on stage the band is either going to be really bad or really great there is no in between. Teschedi Trucks Band killing it as always
This dude has always had the heart of fire and the talent to play beyond anyone's imagination. Since he was a little Kid he has always caught my ear and his technique has only improved on a daily everytime you hear him he is doing something better No limits 🎵 he might be my favorite guitar player now that I think about it Love the way he does Layla

I just love the dynamic of husband and wife guitar players. They are both freaking phenomenal and the cool part I like is when Derek and Duane Betts team up that's pretty freaking awesome too

It's been a pleasure to watch Derek grow as a musician...and a person. I don't know how old he was but I first saw him(several times) playing with the ABB 90-92 in Atlanta.
Speaking for myself I was going to see the ABB @ The Beacon in NYC all during the 1st decade of the 2000's & he & Warren were already top level. They both have only gotten better - more polished & more intense.
In my book Duane was the all time greatest. I really don't think he could of got better. He was the greatest and nobody will ever be better. Glad I got to see him play live. Man, Fillmore East 👍
@@gangoffour6690 The Gatlinburg Tapes show the ABB experimenting with John Coltrane's version of "My Favorite Things". I believe he was the all-time greatest, but in some ways he was still getting started! :D
I’ve been listening to AB Live at Fillmore East for 50 years. I know every note in Whipping Post. This was amazing, at times. Finger picking Duane’s slide parts. Incredible.
My generation’s guitar heroes would have one or two of these nights on a tour, even in their peak years. Trucks and a handful of today’s icons, unleash these torrents of fury every night on tour. The vocabulary, the lyricism, the articulation and spontaneity here are really quite extraordinary.
Everytime I watch this video, which is with the same frequency as the Chilean buskers , "Highway Star" video, I just , awestruck, weep like a freakin' infant. Oof, yeah seldom other than Miles, or Duane, or Coltrane even become the transcendentally , crushingly all consuming. This, THIS is it.
Good cover , nice to see them play something that will keep me awake . Greg wrote this when he was 21 years old . None better than ABB with Duane and Greg ,Rip

He is not really that good!
@@LeprechaunGinger A subjective take - but thanks for your opinion

The thing that has given him his own style is his interest in Middle Eastern music. It's infused in everything he plays including this.

“Stunningly original”! Indeed, indeed - absolutely magnificent!!
Agree except the ROCK part.
Just “guitarist” works
Mr Trucks is self actualized. What a lucky man to be so humble yet so great and to have a wife and counterpart that is a legit equal.
Once in a while someone will appear on the planet like this and all we should do is listen and be grateful he made it to earth while we are here.

@@johnmacronald168 the amazing part is they stayed true to the tune, and any embellishments they've made to the tune has done them Justice.

Wish I could say that bout the Dead. But we do still have Dark Star Orchestra. Allman family is amazing. Add Susan. Nice
That guy turned out to be one of the most soulful players ever to walk the planet!
No matter who he plays with; Clapton, Bonamassa, ABB, he just stands out without even trying to be the "guitar hero". Superb player.
You DO realize that all those stage lights flashing at the end of the performance were powered by the energy coming from Susan and Derek.
One of the best guitarists to ever walk the planet 💯%

I can't travel much anymore (old) and I can't afford tickets anyway. Thanks RUclips. And thanks Derek and Susan for keeping the ABB legacy alive.
It's Derek's turn now- the Allman legacy will go on a lifetime
Derek? Derek's fame will endure a lifetime. ABB were a piece in time we'll never forget ABB. Amazing what Betts created.

I want to experience what Derek is in that solo in the early stages of this AWESOME rendition of a favorite of mine for MANY YEARS 🎶🎶🎶
Thank you Derek and Susan for keeping the ALLman Brothers Sound alive!
There are very few people who ever attain that level of freedom on an instrument

They learned from the best tight jam band ever.. The Allman Brothers Band
That's how it is when the band is a band and serve the song. It takes a lot to get to that level of musicianship without the ego taking over.
Think about an orchestra. Dozens of musicians and nobody is stepping on each other. A rock band is no different if you do it right.
Relax it was good but not great....
