after watching him play so amazingly at the young of age of 19 whenever he first toured with the ABB, I convinced myself that he had to have mastered Duane’s style with that slide and Dickey’s jam style IN-Virtro since he was able to hear&feel it so much at the Big House
That was some mighty fine guitar playing! The Allman Brothers was always the finest of the Southern Rock Bands! I got to see them several times in my lifetime tand it was always good to the bone!
The Allman bros. were so lucky to have this "kid" waiting in the wings. Derek filled the void left by Dickey Betts, and then took this band to a whole new level of excellence. (my opinion)
Gosh, your comment reminded me of a time when my eldest brother went to see Allmans at a stadium outside Philly. His wife got apprehensive at the last minute, and talked him into waiting for friends at a bar. There was a loud, brash person there who bragged 'I'm Dickey Betts'!! to which my brother replied, 'yeah I guess that would make me Eric Clapton.'
My guitar is in the corner, looking at me.." you never touch ME that way..." you knew what this was from the start ! My God!! He gets the cleanest, perfect stops always, at any speed and intensity.
Yeah, I was noticing that. Also, did you see how he was picking the strings with his right hand?! His index finger would go from sticking straight out to plucking the string(s), really fast at times--just a blur, no "economy of motion" there, he's just really fast... And accurate! Wow. THAT takes some practice... And skill. And the composition & phrasing takes... well, soul.
Everyone acts like he's great. I play like that and I get nothing . Then the dog barks and I get up and start crying realizing it's just another dream. Let the dog out and start plucking away yearning for my next dream.

As a guitar aficionado for over 40 years, I have played, dabbled, performed, and mastered many styles of guitar. And over those many years, I have paid less attention to slide guitar than I should have. When playing in a cover band many years back I was asked to perform a set of ZZ Top songs. I like ZZ so I said yes. Now I had some XP with the slide, and even owned a couple types. But in that situation I was happy to learn something new, and the slide was a whole new animal. I worked out my slide parts, and techniques, and listened and learned from other players. Like one of my old time favorites, Joe Walsh. But when I watched Derek play slide, it took on a whole new meaning. He did with that piece and one damn finger what I never thought possible. And that is why I believe Derek is the best slide player in the universe. Because I ain't seen no one better. If I can some day get that good than I can finally stop trying. Slide on, Derek!
There are so many good slide players (two in this band) and each one has their own style. Yours will emerge and like a fingerprint, it will be unique. The beauty if music is you never have to quit trying.

8:28 to 8:35 reminded me of one time listening to Aretha Franklin playing live at Fillmore West and wondering how it must feel to be able to express yourself effortlessly and accurately with vocals. I love how a good guitar tone can boost peoples confidence enough to where they can play uninhibited, in and out of tune, up and down the neck, making noise, having fun.. Having played in bands all my life, I suspect you don't get closer to heaven than Derek in that part where the solo builds to the climax. The original drug.
Love the wide angle shot of Derek playing exquisite rhythm guitar during Warren’s solo. Class act. That’s what brothers do. I’m here to say it: HAYNES/TRUCKS 2024!!!!!
After Hendrix I thought I'd never live long enough to hear another Angel sent from heaven. I then heard Stevie Ray Vaughan. Enough said!!!! But then my heart was broken 💔 when he passed. I thought that's that!!! Then came this God send. I have never cried so hard with such joy over a solo. This is a true miracle we are seeing!!!! If you ever wondered what Church was like, well now you have your answer.
I had tickets to see Stevie Ray scheduled, he never got to perform.. I held on to them forever . My ex wife "won them" in the divorce. 5 finger discount.
So well put. I have a Guiter freak. I had my Gods lined up, then I heard SRV. My head exploded. He left us too soon. I listen to his music every day. I had the chance to go to his last show and didn't do it. Huge regret. But then I found Warren and Derek. Satriani is also a genius.
absolutely awesome - inspired and beautiful. Must make the oldtimers proud when the kid rips one like that. I am 70 years old, the young guns, make the OGs smile whereever they be. They are , as THEY were just in different hands. I came here because of Quora talking smack about Beatles were the best crap... People go to the Stones, I go to Allman brothers, Hendrix, lets see the Beatles do a set with 6 20 minute long songs. Music lives, not in the grooves. It lives every time it is let out. I miss the old days.
@@dennislane100 so true man... I hear it in my playing when doing covers and going for that tone. IF not in the fingers, you'll not find it, no matter the equipment.
It’s awesome to see Derek and Warren trade licks as they do so often, but it’s also so cool to see Derek break out and show why he’s a top 20 guitarist. Simply amazing depth throughout the Allman Brothers. peace
Warren and Derek have been voted into Rolling Stone magazine's 25 best guitarists of all time. Both are just unbelievable guitarists but Derek can make his guitar cry, sing and moan better that anyone I have ever heard. We got to hear this song on the river in Cleveland. They decided to do it as a hot summer storm was starting-lightning and all... OH SO AWESOME! Derek has literally brought me to tears with the pure soul bending music that he creates. Get to see him tonight with TTB - another AWESOME band!
Warren hanes is a legend. It sais so much that he is such an amazing player, but he still gives the nod to derek like watch my boy here, he is about to kill it. Knowing if warren wanted he could have the last solo ,but he knows what a talet derek is. I think alot of players can learn from that, guitar isnt a competition of who is best, but it is about the music and the fun you have playing it
I hear that! I am stoked- I've got a 21 year old kid in my band and damn, he can lay on that organ. He was a saxophone player, but when he got his hands on a keyboard less than 2 years ago, he turned into a beast. I can't believe how lucky I got. I have him, a bassist who was director for the USAF touring band for 8 years, a superior drummer who can sit in the pocket, lay down a great blues groove, and then turn around and smack you in the face with heavy rock drums. He can bass drum so fast that he doesn't need a double bass pedal. Then, I have a guitar player who is seasoned, but in the BEST way! He's recorded with Lenny Kravitz, toured for 6 years with Quincy Jones, and been on the stage of Soul Train. He is the baddest shredder, plays Kiss exactly like Prince, but can also roll it back with me on More Than Words with the acoustic. He's a badass! I have NO idea how I got so mucky with my crew, but boy I really am!!!!
Dear God, I'm not even joking that might be the best thing I've ever watched. I teared up at one point. I wish everyone could, at some point in their life, have an emotional response to music like that.
The production on this recording is incredible. The audio is outstanding, the camera gets where it needs to be then frames up quickly and in focus. Terrific work. Then you get to experience one of the most ferocious blues guitar breaks you will ever see. Thank you

Rusty Baldwin .....today little brother Greg gets put his hand on Duane’s shoulder and say You were always with me I love you man! I love you my big brother And Stevie Ray Vaughn shyly looks at them black hat covering most of his face
Funny image of Mother Theresa up there ‘wait a minute, I spend my days in abject poverty working 20 hour days. You guys do drugs, sex and rock/roll and we all end up in the same spot. Fuuuuuuuuuck that!’
No matter how many times I watch Derek start a Fire on the fretboard of his SG with a Coricidin bottle I never get tired of it. He has turned the world of Blues Slide Guitar on its head and given "Slide Guitar" a whole New Sound. Dennis Dullea
Doesn't get much better than that!! Warrens BB kingish approach to his solo only more fierce with that beautiful vibrato followed by that searing slide work of Derek's lit this tune on fire 🔥
In all the years I have been associated with members of the Allman Brothers band and its extended family, I have never seen this footage! As my grand pappy told me long ago, "there is no substitution for talent " ! God rest the souls of my departed brothers ! Barry j.

This blows me away every time I watch. Derek Trucks, man.
Trucks killed it... again... this man knows the G-spot of the guitar...
hahaha, it's so true.
joao...!! :)
Lol
Bet he knows Susan's to !!!!
lol... well said!
I was at this show!..... it gave me chills then and still gives me chills now!
Man, I miss festivals...This is truly jaw dropping.
I need a beer, like right now !
Milwaukee has the world's greatest festival
@@gerggbergr8976 have you been to all the festivals in the world
Got me praising God this morning.
Derek is the best slide player of the world.
🙇preach preach🙇
Gracias Brothers for your awesome performance. Enrique from Spain at 200 klm from north Africa.
This could be the best slide guitar playing I've ever seen or heard! And I'm not even a slide or blues guy, but Derek has skills!
Nope. Warren doing Hoochie Coochie Man
@@suzannefurman3957 "...I've ever seen".
@@nedim_guitar it's on video. Go see LOL. I'm old. 76. Is my music. All rock and blues comes out of Black music. He does it justice LOL
At the beginning I was like, "Warren is killing it!" Then that Damn slide guitar came in and blew me away!! I'm speechless. 😊😁❤️
Derek's solo is fabulous, but I was more impressed w/ Warren's voice. My goodness, that boy's got some killer vox.
Having played in bands all my life, I suspect you don't get closer to heaven than Derek in that part where the solo builds to the climax. The original drug.
I hear you brother. When you’re in the physical presence of someone doing that, there’s a definate electricity in the air.
Can you even imagine a Derek and Duane collaboration on ANY song, playing off each other, weaving their way through solos, oh man....
@@lynfox1533 not in this world! Haha
David Holden, maybe some day........
@@lynfox1533 not just Derek and Duane gotta put Dickey and Warren in there too. Nice great 30-45 min ABB jam.
WTF, Derek Trucks... I had several literal jaw drops at this. Guitar god.
Listen 2 Rory Gallagher
I had tickets to see Stevie Ray scheduled, he never got to perform.. I held on to them forever . My ex wife "won them" in the divorce. 5 finger discount.
Amen.jesus loved us all
So well put. I have a Guiter freak. I had my Gods lined up, then I heard SRV. My head exploded. He left us too soon. I listen to his music every day. I had the chance to go to his last show and didn't do it. Huge regret. But then I found Warren and Derek. Satriani is also a genius.
hahaa bullshit kid.....hahaha CLAPTON is god hendrix is shit....srv is shit for kids....hahahaha....try again sttupid kid hahahahah
That's nothing but heart and soul AMAZING
Hands down some of the best and most soulful phrasing I’ve ever heard...
It is insane what those two did on that stage
I stand in awe
absolutely awesome - inspired and beautiful. Must make the oldtimers proud when the kid rips one like that. I cried the first time I heard Warren play with the Bros. and Derek is continuing in the tradition of absolute excellence and integrity - just for the sake of of the music. All hail the Bros.!!!!!!
@@markslinger9042 Brother Mark!! yessss!
I just went to heaven on earth,,,are you kidding me ? LAAAWWD have mercy!
Derek just ripps that guitar !
Priceless!
This whole song has to be one of the best blues performances of all time. Makes the hairs on my arms stand up for 10 minutes 👍
This is the best performance on you tube, hands down!! Awesome.
Along with Stevie Ray Vaughn and Johnny Copeland - Tin Pan Alley Live...
Keep this music alive please 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Two great solos by Derek and Warren!
Oh man, this is such a great performance by all. What a joy to listen to. Derek's solo here is amazing.
I think Derek Trucks is the most exciting guitar player to come down the pike in decades.
Trucks is a bastard simply because I have a paralysed right hand and can never play as he does.
It simply doesn't get any better than this!
Jesus.....I've always loved the sound from a Les Paul, primarily because of Duane and Dickey, but my god, Derek sets that SG on fire!!
It’s not the guitar,it’s in the hands!As witness;-Jack Pearson,and his “cheap”Squire strat!
Simply amazing depth throughout the Allman Brothers. peace
@michaelw7800 Top 10 IMHO. I think it would be hard to argue that Derek isn't the finest guitarist over at least the last decade or more also IMHO.
@@johnhebert3986 Yeah I feel like he's about the best in the business..
I think alot of players can learn from that, guitar isnt a competition of who is best, but it is about the music and the fun you have playing it
Both of these solos so great ! Just fantastic
Two very different styles coming together in perfect heart-felt synergy.
Tore Down!!!!! That was incredible!!! Two absolute virtuoso’s on one stage!!! Thank god someone filmed this 🤘❤️🇺🇸😎🙏
Gregg's organ....sublime....no one did it quite as he did...a master. RIP
These two are BY FAR two of my favorite Blues guitarists... What soul...
This is absolutely some of the best blues guitar I’ve heard. Unbelievably great musicianship here
That slide, just .... damn. Holy shit. Wow ..... just too good. Whole song just rocks the blues. Love SRV, RIP Stevie.
Dear God, I'm not even joking that might be the best thing I've ever watched. I teared up at one point. I wish everyone could, at some point in their life, have an emotional response to music like that.
Glad you enjoyed NS!
I think my head just exploded! Haynes...trucks...holy hell!!
This was amazing and it happened in my home town!!
Long live the blues
A little blues to start the day yeaaaaah
Warren is the man! vocals and guitar, Allman Brothers, Govt. Mule, or solo, love when he plays with guest guitarists.....Magic!!!
Derek Trucks is unbelievable guitar player.Great heart for the blues.
Derek Trucks is simply the best blues player around - natural genius
A truly spectacular solo. Derek is WOW!
Elmore James lives on.
The production on this recording is incredible. The audio is outstanding, the camera gets where it needs to be then frames up quickly and in focus. Terrific work. Then you get to experience one of the most ferocious blues guitar breaks you will ever see. Thank you
Thanks for watching Ronald!
This is ON FIRE, THEY ARE SO LOCKED in it’s insane
Just a masterpiece nothing more...nothing less....bye from Italy....
One of my All-Time Favorite songs by an All-Time Favorite band
Warren is great all around underrated for sure,he’s played with some of the greatest musicians around also amazing when you think about it and always does a fantastic job
It just does not get any better!!
Love Warrens solo, he's got a great style , great playing and slide too.
RIP SRV. I know he didn't write it. But he owns it. And ABB did an amazing job on this as well. Thanks for this.
@@jamesrramey smoking the good stuff! 😀

You were always with me
I love you man! I love you my big brother And Stevie Ray Vaughn shyly looks at them black hat covering most of his face
🙌
@michael dillon The guitar is a Gibson SG
Assuming either existed, I'd think they'd both be in Hell. I think most fun people would be.
Funny image of Mother Theresa up there ‘wait a minute, I spend my days in abject poverty working 20 hour days. You guys do drugs, sex and rock/roll and we all end up in the same spot. Fuuuuuuuuuck that!’
Best show i ever saw was M.O.E opening for Allman Bros in 2004 when Derek and Warren were playing for them. Absolutely off the charts
No matter how many times I watch Derek start a Fire on the fretboard of his SG with a Coricidin bottle I never get tired of it. He has turned the world of Blues Slide Guitar on its head and given "Slide Guitar" a whole New Sound. Dennis Dullea
These are what you call great musician's The Allman Brothers Band one of the greatest ever.
Doesn't get much better than that!! Warrens BB kingish approach to his solo only more fierce with that beautiful vibrato followed by that searing slide work of Derek's lit this tune on fire 🔥
The both of them are truly gifted!!!!!
In all the years I have been associated with members of the Allman Brothers band and its extended family, I have never seen this footage! As my grand pappy told me long ago, "there is no substitution for talent " ! God rest the souls of my departed brothers ! Barry j.

Warren has it all. excellent Slide ,great blues licks and can sing too

And Derek Trucks is among the top two guitar players I've ever heard
That was amazing! I don't think i've seen him get that into it, like that!!! Go tot watch more ABB!!!
Warren & Derek (and Susan & their band when present) are keeping alive what I grew up with and still find the most pleasing of music outlets. (Allman brothers southern blues/rock fusion..maybe I call it)
