This is the the perfect example of a conversation of guitar solos. Everyone is taking turns without losing the essence of the song. Nobody wants to outshine anyone with some fancy lick that will ruin the flow. DT turning down the volume of his amp clearly showed a mutual respect for the Trey and Warren.
Derek is the best guitar player on that stage. I love it how he’s silent vocally but speaks volumes through his instrument. Trey has said he thinks Derek is the best guitar player alive
Greg’s voice just fits with this one. Written and sung well by Warren, but Greg always rose to the occasion when singing this song. His gravely southern drawl and a lifetime of miles on the road and his tortured soul was simply perfect, imho. Bless his memory
I didn’t appreciate how truly unique his voice was until I was much older. I grew up listening to ABB from my Dad, so it was just normal to me. But once I became a musician and my horizons broadened, my respect for Gregg deepened. He was one of a kind
They’re solid players, and Derek is exceptional, but with Jimmy Page, Clapton, Roger Waters, Jeff Beck, Blackmore still with us that is a bit of a stretch IMO.
@@gregs8685 Fair point! I've been to phish shows and mule shows and I have to say I think the other two are very underated. I didn't say the best alive but I've got both in my top 20 right now

And can you believe there are people out there who say today's music sucks? Greg may be gone but Warren, Derek, Trey and so many others like them are out there doing it every day. Warms my heart.

I only just started listening to Warren Haynes.I'd rate him as one of the greats. His Guitar is outstanding and his singing is up there with the best. I'm spellbound by him.
I can't say enough times how great this is. Being older and watching my sons go see Fish, never knowing how talented Trey is or even who he was until this. I have always been an Allman Brother fan and love Derek, so good.

Awesome.. Just saw Warren a month ago in Ft Lauderdale and he's still kicking ass playing this song at every show. And last night, the benefit concert by Warren & Dave Matthews Band was called Soulshine and they did an acoustic version. Keeping it alive! Derek was great then... but he's amazing now!
This song is the best music I've ever heard in my entire life, but the message is even better. This is what I listen to when life gets hard. This song keeps me going. And fighting. And alive. If I had to choose one song to listen to for eternity, it's a God damned easy choice.
Whoa. This is the version I HAVE that I ALWAYS listen to and never even realized it. I could tell as soon as Warren started singing. I love this version. They absolutely KILLED IT.
That moment at 7:22, where Trey is just following Derek's hands. He looks like a baseball player trying to get the pitcher's timing, so he can jump in perfect.
Watching Derek Trucks playing like this twenty years ago is a beautiful thing. When you do boot camp with The Allman Brothers you become the finest guitar player there is. This song is a Masterpiece.

I used to ride my bike to Paul’s house and sneak into his older brothers room and listen to this music. His brother was smart, four Altec 160W green tube amps connected in bridges, a crossover network in a cigar box with the crossover frequencies calculated in pencil on the lid, Altec and BSR speakers, you get the idea. It was all fun until Paul’s older brother did not come back from Vietnam (well in a way he did). I still love the Dead 50 years later. Some day, I too will pass and all of this will make sense. I want to go with a song in my heart.
Gregg Allman has an amazing resume of songs. But this is 100% Warren Haynes. I don’t think a lot of people realize that because he recorded it with the Bros originally. And if you knew, sorry to bother you. 🙂

Warren is old fundamental, a pros pro all the way, never misses a note. Trey is the unorthodox, almost cagey psychedelic tone…and then Derek, the virtuoso comes in and he’s unmistakable
