    I was introduced to the almond brothers by my roommate and next door neighbor in the 1st year of the dorms at Cal state San Bernardino; now Cal state University....Eat a Peach, then Dickey and Greg "Brothers and Sosters with Jessica, East Ryder, Live at the Filmore East, gut wrenching beautiful Tie me to the whipping post.
    I went to the school library which had reviews in the Rolling Stone and microfiche slides of LA Times reviews by their Pop/Rockl Music critic Robert Hillburn: 12 hour concert at Watkins Glen with The Band and the Grateful Dead which drenched the huge crowd in the open festival seating.. each review tossed in guest artists who came out dry from the trailers behind the stage, i.e. Paul Butterfield's memorable blues harmonica with The Band on Mystery Train, and a truly extended jam with all the talent including spoons and washboard, mandolin, jews Harp, all manner of call and response from lead guitarists Betts, The Band's Robbie Robertson and Jerry Garcia of the 'Dead - have not discovered any archival recording of the percussion and rough hewn vocals featuring Greg Allman, The Band's Canadian vocalists Richard Manuel, Levon Helm & Rick Danko, and Bob Wier of the Dead... in a down pour that Mother Earth whipped up!

    Performed on my birthday and my first day of college as a music student. Unbeknownst to my teachers I was playing this and other ABB tunes in my spare time.

    Love these guys. Unfortunate how drugs toppled another musical icon. What greg did is unforgivable,...

    • @yvonnelaurenty6427
      @yvonnelaurenty6427 2 года назад

      Scott Carlon: agreed. Greg did quite a few unforgivable things. Worst, imo, was firing Dickey, by FAX! A founding member whose body of work carried the band forward after Duane was gone.
      Dickey's got his revenge and his money, suing the Brothers for what was his.
      Great Southern got along ever having to play a Greg song. But all the further ABB lineups couldn't drop Liz Reed, High Falls or any of those wonderful Betts compositions. Ramblin Man their only commercial hit!
      It was a Brotherhood - until it wasn't.
