At 62, I'm enjoying the reactions of the younger generations to our music. Love this version. Love your reaction to it. Stay true to yourself. Hope you're able to see your mom soon if you haven't already.
Carole King essentially wrote this song as a reply to James Taylor's song Fire and Rain, in which he says, "I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend". The two musicians have been close friends for many years.
@@stevetanner3019 I don't care. James Taylor bores the c**p out of me. Carol King is a dynamo talent. People also request reactions to songs that are awful such as America's "Horse with No Name" so does that mean one must like it? Musical taste and preference is a very individual thing.
@@andreaschmall5560 I agree with you in regards to personal taste. My point was obviously most people liked James Taylor’s version the most as it sold a lot more copies, that’s all.
Your mom did it because she wants you to know [insert song title here] !!! Such a beautiful girl with such a wonderful mom !!! I think you deserve it. Now, don't stop there. He has a huge catalogue of songs you will most certainly love. He does all sorts of songs but that's him playing the guitar so beautifully, and he does it through every song.
This song actually is a great story of friendship in itself. Carole King and James Taylor were good friends who collaborated on a lot of things. Carole was the most successful female song writer of the second half of the 20th century, but was reluctant to perform live. James encouraged her and she ended up with one of the best albums at the time in Tapestry. James heard her sing You've got a Friend and decided to take a crack at it. The story I have always heard was that when she heard it it made her feel just about the same way you reacted. Both of them ended up doing very well and performed together over the years. You can find several videos here on RUclips of them performing this together.
My All Time Favorite Song! Written By the legend Carole King. One of the greatest songwriters ever. Best Bridge Ever In A Song: Now Ain't It Good To Know That You've Got A Friend When People Can Be So Cold They'll Hurt You And Desert You They'll Take Your Soul If You Let Them Ahh But Don't You Let Them 🎹🎤
I saw him in concert in the mid to late 90’s. I took my mom with me. It was 2 hours of just James sitting on a stool with his guitar. No one else was on stage. My mom and I both loved it. My mom is 80 now, and still listens to James Taylor. ❤️
This is simply a classic song. It brings back memories of my college days in California. It's a timeless song that i loved from the first time I heard it.
Love the song, but I love that your mom picked this. I have daughters and they know this song..... I would do anything for them. Dads are like that too!
You are such a breath of fresh air! Your reactions are heartfelt and you make the videos about the music, not about yourself. I watched several of your Carpenters videos and that's how I ended up here. The Carpenters were my first favorite group back when I was growing up in the early 70s. I'm 57 now and I still love their music every bit as much as I did back then and it's so good to see someone your age appreciating the music we had back then. I wish you the absolute best in life. Just stay true to yourself because you seem to be one incredible young lady!
Hi This is turning into how can we make Angela cry today?!! Another Beautiful song by James Taylor is Fire & Rain also have a listen to Neil Young Heart Of Gold All the Best Jim, Surrey ,U.K XX
I graduated high school in ‘76 so James Taylor and Carole King had a lot of acoustic music on the radio. Carole King also released it and her version is just as emotional.
A friend of mine and I were both going through some tough times in our lives when we went to see James Taylor perform at our college (SUNY Oswego). While this song was being sung, we held hands, looked into each other’s eyes, and sang it from the heart. Every time I hear the song it brings back that memory.
James has a very deep well of magnificent songs. This one was written by Carole King, but as always, James made it his own. And not only is a great song craftsman and vocalist, he is also an exceptional guitarist. No one plays like him!
The song was written by Carole King and is on her epic Tapestry album. But she let him release it as a single first. He calls it maybe the greatest pop song ever written and then jokes "Of course I didn't know then that I'd be pkaying it every night for the rest of my life." There's a vid of them singing it together about 30 years later.
Thank you and thanks to Mom. Great reaction to a beautiful song. I would suggest Taylor's "fire and rain" and King's "so far away". Both have lots of great songs. King was a huge song writer back in the day. You should check out the many versions of "Dancing in the Street" and Loco-motion"
I'm 64 years old, have been listening to this song for 50 years, and it still gets me in the heart, every time. Your mom is a soulful, caring mom. I love it! You should give a listen to "You Are So Beautiful" by Joe Cocker-- so much heart and soul in this song.
Please never apologize for tearing up at a song like this. This was one of the very few songs that James did not write himself. It was written in 1971 by Carole King. I was sixteen at the time, and this song has a special place in my heart. That tearing up...well, that's just your humanity showing thru.
Hi Angela, awesome job.. now that you are covering the best era of music (in my opinion), the 70s AND since you are now getting into the incredible singer/songwriters (like the great James Taylor) I humbly request: John Denver "Looking For Space" my favorite artist of all time and one of the greatest songwriters of all time, much like James Taylor, Jim Croce, Neil Diamond, Carole King and Gordon Lightfoot. Thank You.
What a song. What a message.Soooo heart warming. The mans voice is everything. What a nice thing for a mom to do for her daughter.James Taylor's music is a great choice to explore. "Fire and Rain", "Her town too".
I have always loved this song - and James Taylor. This is an absolutely beautiful song for a mother to send to her daughter! Your Mom loves you very much!
Written by another great early seventies singer-songwriter, Carole King, who had a number of other, similar hits that you'd like, as did James Taylor. And just think, this song was played on the radio at the same time as the Carpenters were all over the radio so we got to hear voices like this all the time.
Hello, James Tayler is one of the greatest singers and songwriters (Hall of Fame). you can listen to all of his songs, wonderful. Together with his (ex) wife Carly Simon (also a famous singer) they were the dream duo of singers / songwriters. Best regards
Here’s a couple of challenges for the fabulous Angela. I bet she can’t get through either of these two songs without shedding a tear. They are: By the Time I Get to Phoenix by Glen Campbell and Hope She’ll Be Happier With Him by Bill Withers. Both superb tracks.
One of our county’s best singer song writes ever!😎👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 We boomer have been blamed for a lot of crap, but man our generation created some of the best music ever. PERIOD!!!! ✌️👍
To give you a sense of how much of a giant in music history he is, James Taylor is a 6-time Grammy winner, inducted in both the Rock and Roll and Songwriters Halls of Fame, and awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, among numerous other awards. Nice discussion.
Way to go, You made me tear up as well! Lol. James Taylor's voice can do that easily. Terrific song written by Carole King. Her version on "Tapestry" is also worth a listen (James is on it as well I think).
From the pen of Carole King. Do a deep dive into her. She wrote most of the early hits of the 1960's. Her TAPESTRY album gave a huge boost to the singer-songwriter category back in 1971.
Along with Barry Mann & Cynthia Weil, Leiber & Stoller, etc. I am a 50s child and am still amazed to see how many great songs these people created. Tapestry was released in 1971 and was the number one selling album of all time until it was replaced by Michael Jackson's "Thriller."

Even though he didn't write this song, James Taylor is a great singer/songwriter. He has written many songs. My favorite is probably Fire and Rain (huge hit), but other hits include Shower the People, Don't let me be lonely tonight, and Handy Man
Carol King wrote “You’ve Got A Friend” in reaction to the line “I’ve seen lonely times when I could not find a friend” from “Fire and Rain”. That’s Joni Mitchell on harmony vocals. You should definitely check out Joni Mitchell, but you’ll probably need a box of tissues! I hope you were able to go see your mom!

And she does a much better job of singing it.
@@andreaschmall5560 The majority of the public’s opinion would differ as Taylor’s version was a much bigger hit.

Wow that is beautiful. I did not know that..
Fire and Rain. A must
Absolutely AGREE.
Beat me to it,I third that suggestion
Touching reaction ! Moms are the best ! No matter where you are, you know that she will always be there for you !

Lovely reaction! James Taylor = Legend. Mom's are the best aren't they☺ A song to check out is by a group called Bread "If"
These kind of songs foster humanity and helps young people develop and understand their emotions. Too bad not many songs accomplish this anymore.

Fire and Rain is a tear jerker. James is one of my favorite song writers and singers
Yes it is, and this song was Carole King's response to her friend James' heartbreaking lyric "I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend".
@@bearballin when he sang it at the 9/11 concert there wasn’t a dry eye anywhere. Irraly fit the situation.

If you like this song, it was written by Carol King, a genius songwriter, listen to her album Tapestry, considered one of the best ever.
Excellent. You should react to James Taylor's 1970 BBC performance of "Fire And Rain". One of the best songs you'll ever hear.
