Well, Mamma Gap, anytime you can insert some James Taylor into the mix you're doing the right thing. Most certainly a 1970's singer/songwriting icon still plucking away today. I had the opportunity to meet James and wife Carly Simon outside the American Express office in Paris during the summer of '73. JT in jeans and T-shirt while the glamorous Carly was dressed like a southern belle in white (including hat) with a protruding tummy due to her pregnancy with first child Sally. That baby-to-be is now 48. As their chauffeur-driven Citroen sped from the curb, James crawled half way out of the car's window and raising his right hand shouted "have a good one, man". I pretty much was floating on air the rest of the day. Here is Taylor saluting Carole at the Kennedy Center Honors...ruclips.net/video/vm7XEUH6JX0/видео.html

Carole is very modest but she said of this song that she will be the first to say it's a great song "because I don't feel like I wrote it. I just sat down and it kind of came through me."
She offered it to James to release before her own version, something James thanks her for onstage almost every time he plays it. He calls it maybe the best pop song ever written and then jokes "Of course I didn't know I'd be playing it every night for the rest of my life."

I first heard James Taylor in 1970 when I got home from serving overseas. As I recall this song, along with "Fire and Rain" were huge hits and got a lot of airplay. Carole, of course, wrote this song. His version seemed to get played more on the radio as far as I can remember. James was born in Massachesetts just nine days before me. I consider him a "brother from another mother". I simply love his voice and his guitar style.

#1 hit for James Taylor in 1971. even though it was Carole King's song, not his. The Beatles discovered James Taylor, and their friend Peter Asher [formerly of the duo Peter and Gordon in the 1960's] became his manager. Where Carole sang need some loving care, James changed that line to "nothing is going right" on his version. Keeping this in perspective, James may have been talented and cute, but had a terrible addiction problem with Heroin, and later Cocaine. His own father, a doctor, saved his life on the heroin when James called him on the phone or something.

Also, when Carole was recording Tapestry (Jan 71) & James was recording "Mud Slide Slim etc" (Jan 3-Feb 28, 71), it was just part of Jan 71 that they were recording simultaneously. Baby Gap, I really enjoyed watching you react to "You've Got A Friend" for the first time. Carole King wrote the song and gave it to James Taylor to record and it went to #1 on the pop charts in 1971. As Momma Gap said, everyone in our age group knows and remembers this song. It's an all-time classic song from the 70's. I've always been a major fan of both James Taylor and Carole King. I grew up on both of their music. Other great James Taylor songs for you to react to are "Fire And Rain", "Your Smiling Face", "The Secret Of Life", and "Shower The People.". Baby Gap, as you said, Carole King is iconic. I consider her the greatest female songwriter of the rock era. During the 1960's, she wrote many timeless classics such as "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow", "Natural Woman", "Take Good Care Of My Baby", "Up On The Roof", "The Loco-Motion", "Crying In The Rain", "Oh No, Not My Baby" and "I'm Into Something Good." In 1971, she released her first solo record, Tapestry, which became one of the best-selling albums of all-time and contained great songs such as "It's Too Late", "I Feel The Earth Move" and "So Far Away". Anyway, I really hope you explore both of their extensive song catalogs.

Oh heck! I’m sitting here bawling my eyes out! This reminds me the time my mum passed and one of my close friends did so many wonderful things for me, when I was feeling so down! Thank you very much! Folk rock is my favourite genre! I’m not sure if you have reacted to The Seekers or not! My favourite group! Please can you sometime when you can react to I am Australian! Thank you! Peace and Blessings from Australia.

Hi Wendy, so happy to hear you had a wonderful friend during such a painful time in your life. True friends can be real treasures. We have a few reactions to The Seekers! We will definitely have to do more. They are wonderful.

Carole King definitely did right this song and she actually sang the first version of it before James Taylor got it and turned it into a mega hit. Carole King is written a lot of songs for a lot of artists over the years.

Please react to CHERISH by THE ASSOCIATION
The song was a favorite slow dance song at junior high dances in 1966. It was sually the last song so your strategy relied on split-second timing to be in position to ask a popular girl.
Most of the night, the sexes would cluster on opposite sides of the room.
When this song was announced, the boys would try to manuever into position to ask for a dance, then the DJ would start the song and you had about 5 seconds to ask a girl before it was too late and another guy got there first.
If you were slow or got turned down, you tried to look inconspicuous and non-chalant while navigating back to neutral territory.
