NBA is a numbers game. Social networking, promoting stars, community service and marketing, marketing, marketing. WNBA doesnt seem to have the same resources. So although I might be a fan of a team or better yet specific players, i do not go out of my way to buy the jersey or wear the sneaker. The more exposure to talent, the better the brand.
It's social pressure. Just saying I'm a WNBA fan is going to make people jeer me. If I see someone wearing a jersey, I'll chat them up, but most people are just too brainwashed by society to enjoy a WNBA game. If they came and enjoyed it, it would just make them feel uncomfortable and they would never admit it.
Good episode and I look forward to hearing the rest of your take on that. Also, since I was technically an adult when the league started, I recall the disrespect in the early days. Not surprised by the "Moesha" joke, even though I didn't get it, lol.
+AyeshaTheGreat The Moesha WNBA "joke" was pretty much stereotyping and scalding women in the WNBA saying they are masculine. Moesha's parents asked was the drug test effective, and the nurse said with the effectiveness of the test they were able to send half the WNBA to the NBA. Trying to infer that some of the women in the league are really men posing as women. Because of stereotype that all WNBA players are manly.
This is sooo on point! I'll never understand all this disrespect towards the league
I love the WNBA!!!

Thanks. I stopped watching the show by then. This scene/storyline seems like just another realization that I didn't miss anything.
