Why Minecraft on the Nintendo Switch SUCKS…

  • The Nintendo Switch should be able to run Minecraft Bedrock Edition perfectly, fine, right? Like, anything can run MCBE... or so I thought. Even mid to low end tablets can run Pocket Edition (MCPE) better than it. This video is a criticism of the Switch, and I discuss why Minecraft (and other games) should probably run better than they actually do. I discuss things like game performance, how un-user friendly things like Switch Online and the lack of custom skins or PVP texture packs, and I even 1v1 some of the best Nintendo Switch players. All of this commentary, over some RTX Minecraft cinematics and some Nintendo Switch Hive and Cubecraft Skywars gameplay.

As a Nintendo switch Minecraft player since the legacy edition for the Switch and 2,530 hours. I can confirm that I it takes forever to load, BUT since the latest update and downloading minecraft directly to the system memory the loadings times are way reduced only a min to load.
With the bugs were you get an invalid session I just swap from local play then back to online by pressing y. Also, I have to reconnect my account once or twice a month.
Forget about having a long term single player world, I have a 250 mb world it lags so frigging much and crashes every 10 min. Sometimes I can't even open chests or open UI without it crashing its rlly bad.
I have beat my friends on pcs butterfly clicking and I absolutely Destroy them that's the 2k hours. I probably won't be very good bc the friggen game won't work in the latest version. So yeah...

The Switch hardware isn't the whole issue.
Bedrock on consoles is just pretty shoddy in general (I've had it literally hard crash my Xbox on numerous occasions)
If you compare it to their Console Edition contemporaries the difference in performance and stability can be shocking.
Mojang needs to make some heavy optimisation on Bedrock for consoles and it's crazy that it's been like 6 years since Better Together and many of the issues that people reported then still exist.

What really annoys me is how you can't get the Legacy Console Edition version of Minecraft on Switch anymore since it had no physical release and the digital is of course delisted. One thing I always wanted to play but couldn't because I didn't have a Wii U was the Minecraft Super Mario Mashup Pack, and so when I got Minecraft Bedrock for the Switch (I didn't get my switch in time to get the Legacy Console version) I was excited to finally play it. But it turns out it's completely BROKEN in Bedrock, many of the redstone contraptions like the Yellow Switch Palace don't work, the vanilla villages are deserted, some of the features are flat-out missing, and the infinite world generation being applied by force even though the original pack didn't use it messes up several things (Delfino Plaza is literally SNOW-COVERED, and the ocean there is FROZEN, like WHAT?!) and also causes a lot of lag and makes the game dip into _30fps_ at the edges of the map where the new terrain starts for some reason. So that was all a massive disappointment, and because they delisted the Legacy Console version for some reason (which I still don't understand, Bedrock is so different that it can't be a perfect replacement and keeping it up on the shop wouldn't harm Mojang financially because either way the user is still paying them to play Minecraft) I can't actually play the map as it was intended to be played anymore unless I get a Wii U. Both versions should be available to buy on Switch (or any system that has both, tbh).

100% agree. I was used to playing the mini games on the Wii U console version. I was disappointed you couldn’t play them on Switch because it’s only in the old version that’s delisted. I agree with the fact that minecraft isnt the greatest on the nintendo switch, and that is is definitely underpowered, but one of the main reasons to get a switch in the first place isnt to mainly play games using super high graphics, but to play the games that are exclusive to the switch, like mario odyssey, botw, splatoon 3 for example. the example you gave comparing minecraft on a switch to a cheaper android tablet did show the performance difference vs the price difference between the two, but the android tablet isnt able to natively run probably around 99% of the games the switch has to offer (btw 2018 switches can actualy run android in a way without jailbreaking the switch). yes you can use an emulator on android, but unless you own those games you intend to play on it in a legal way which will cost you money, you either have to pirate, or not use the emulator at all. also people playing minecraft on the switch probably would just be looking to play survival are creative mode in singleplayer or with their friends, but probably the featured servers which are pretty much just cashgrabs. dont forget that the nintendo switch is made to be portable, and with its size its not very easy to fit powerful gpu with performance near the xbox series x or ps5, and its intended for the casual gamer, just like the wii was , and dispite it having much worse performance than its competitors at the time, it sold way better than all of them. and tbh, its kinda unfair to judge a console by the way it can run minecraft.

The Switch also has a huge problem with running out of disk space on the Switch for your local personal Minecraft worlds. You are only allowed to use a small part of disk space and with the newer taller terrains in 1.18 you use up your small allotment of memory space very quickly. From what I've experienced on the Switch version of Minecraft, it does run terribly. Whenever I start a solo world, some of the audio just cuts, whenever I get into a boat, the world just doesn't load in fully so I don't know if I'm ever hitting land or just on the water. It really got annoying and I've just uninstall it and I never will play the Switch version again for how poorly it runs. The Switch isn't even a very powerful system. On occasion, certain animal mobs were glitching and their model went full shade of black. I mean, you could not see their faces. I had issues where villagers doesn't show their professions. So it really made trading hard in knowing who had a farmer position and who was a cleric etc. Like you said, the loading is awful. Whenever I play as Steve, I'm then randomly playing as Alex and I never even changed the character. I'm planning on coming off the console version of Minecraft and I am planning on getting a PC. I probably get more of a better experience than on console. PlayStation and Xbox versions plays well. The first time I played Minecraft was on Xbox 360 and that was about 8 years ago. I then got the Pocket Edition, because I wanted to play on the go. It just felt weird playing it on mobile. I play on the PlayStation version. As well as it plays well on the PlayStation, the only issue I had was signing in. Everytime I go to sign it, I get the message saying I had an account already linked to the game, so it would not let me sign in at all. I've never played the PlayStation version so I knew that was just a load of rubbish. It was embarrassing that I had to keep asking my friend to send me the seed over to play with him on his world. So I tried different editions to see if I would have any luck signing in (that was the reason I got the Switch version). I successfully signed in on the Switch and also on the mobile. I got that again to try to sign in. I signed out of my account and tried again on the PlayStation version, I still had no luck. I checked on my Microsoft account and I had no devices linked to my account at all. So I just gave up trying and played on the PlayStation version without using the online features.

Surprisingly it isn't the Switch hardware that is the issue. This is a Bedrock issue in general. I've played on my phone, my old Xbox One, my cousin's PS4, and of course my Switch. ALL of them have the same problems. Market place being slow and sometimes showing file names, signing me out, skins taking forever to load, constant lag spikes during gameplay, certain sound effects missing or playing way too late, certain blocks disappearing or appearing too late, the invalid session thing appearing but usually it corrects itself after a few seconds, and mobs lagging. These are all the issues I've encountered. I've even turned off fancy graphics and turned the render distance down, and all of this still happened. I also play on my PC too but usually it runs just fine. It seems like Microsoft really only cares about PC at the moment and isn't really optimizing Bedrock for the other platforms. What ticks me off is that Bedrock actually used to run very well on these platforms, even the Switch. After 1.13 it started to go downhill.

Okay, yes there are "some" truths to this video. For example sometimes it does say invalid session on the marketplace when you load up Minecraft and yes you do have to reset the game to fix it. But I can argue a lot of other stuff. I play Nintendo switch Lite, out of all the systems people would assume that one to be the most worst. But, on an average the longest time it took me to load into Minecraft was probably about 15 seconds, the quickest time is around 5 seconds. I also have a world that I started all the way back in mid 2021 that I use as my main survival world. Right now it is sitting at approximately 332.4 MB, the longest is taking me to load into that world was probably a minute but the shortest time was probably at least 3 seconds. I have not experienced any graphical issues when loading into the world. When I sit down and go into a server it's not as bad as you're showing it as. I haven't experienced any lag, surprisingly (especially for being a Nintendo switch Lite). And I feel like in my opinion it's a lot better than how you're making it to seem.

As someone who used to play mc on the switch, it is definitely intended for the casual Minecraft experience, or more specifically the survival experience. Because I am more of a survival player, I had a lot more fun that someone who wants to pvp. I think with that mindset the switch version is alright. However it gets very laggy as more updates gets added, and I really don’t see the situation getting better. The switch was always meant for the casual user, not for someone who wants to grind out the game seriously

I don't really agree with most of the stuff said in this video. The switch is incredibly made and runs games pretty well. Not all of them run perfectly but that's the trade off of having a portable console. Fortnite and Apex run with no issues albeit with lower frame rates than xbox or playstation consoles. But that's fine because if you want to play high powered games you can buy an xbox series s for 50$ less than the switch. Minecraft however has problems galore on all platforms, but alot more than usual on the switch. But it's not nintendo's fault because Minecraft ran incredibly on the Wii U, a console from 2012 with approx. 80% less power than the Switch. Also, the version made before bedrock edition (the 4J studios version) runs flawlessly on switch, which you can see for yourself by buying a physical copy of it or if you owned minecraft on the eshop before bedrock edition was released. It's a good video overall but most of the problems are blamed on the switch rather than mojang for not optimizing the switch version properly. Like you said the switch is like a "low to midrange tablet" when the switch is more like a mid to high range tablet. The samsung galaxy tab s8 which is one of the most high end android tablets avaliable right now has 8 GB of ram, while the switch has 4 GB. Low end android tablets have about 256MB to 1GB. I agree that minecraft sucks on the switch when it really shouldn't, but I feel like you critiqued the wrong thing here.

The thing is, shouldn't it be the developers' responsability to optimize their games for the platforms they're releasing them on?
Of course, if you want to play bedrock you should just avoid the console versions in general, as those versions tend to be more broken. In a similar way you'd avoid the Win10 and mobile versions if you want to play Java.

For example, the invalid session issue, and the login issue. Both of these issues are on PS4(from my experience). Also, I think the footage of the game playing servers really laggy isn't accurate, or has been fixed by the time I'm writing this. What makes the switch realms pretty bad is that on top of the realm subscription, you also have to buy nintendos online services. This is one of the main reasons i stopped playing this version and moved on to java. I’ve played switch for like 4 years and this is just the icing on the cake. This version has a handful of problems and is missing like 50% of the games features such as previews and shader support.

  • @Chree1s
    @Chree1s 23 дня назад

Using a subscription just to play online multiplayer on console is one of the reasons I went and built a $500 computer that's running an AMD CPU (R5 3600) and Graphics Card (AMD RX6600 by MSI). Would I have to repurchase the games that I've played before? Yes! But I'd rather do that and have free multiplayer, than having 100 games that I probably won't play or like and not have free multiplayer, and the fact that the total money you spent on a console with a subscription is more than just getting a computer for that same price, it's abysmal.

Saying Minecraft for switch is laggy because of hardware limitations is like saying the sky is blue because the ocean is blue, that would be true if Minecraft switch edition was written in java like the pc version because java is an unoptimised piece of s- but its based on the bedrock edition, which literally runs on phones. Bedrock is very well optimised as it is written in c++. The bugs are there and the performance issues are there because this is the latest release of Minecraft on entirely new hardware and an entirely new ecosystem, it'll improve with time as all switch games do.

  • @skylo706

It's still important to understand that minecraft in general has become laggier. So many new blocks and stuff and better world generation are a hyge factor. For those with very good pcs, you may not have noticed it but I and a lot of other players (!JAVA!) can play pre 1.19 with around 300+ fps on high settings, but get around 40 on mid settings on 1.19+
So yeah the game has becone way laggier in itself
