Is Minecraft on Nintendo Switch Worth It?
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 14 авг 2024
- Is the Minecraft Bedrock Edition really that bad for Nintendo Switch? In this review, I'll be sharing my gameplay experiences and giving you my honest opinion on its good and bad points. I'll be discussing the controls (handheld, joy-con & pro controller), gameplay, marketplace and performance, as well as some cool features that you might not know about the Console Edition. While some reviewers have claimed that the Switch struggles with Minecraft, I've had a lot of fun with it in survival and have played for over 100 hours in online multiplayer on our own Realms server. Watch to see if the Nintendo Switch version of Minecraft is worth your time and money.

Hearing people say Minecraft was terrible on the Switch always puzzled me as when I did play it I never found it to be terrible. I got back into it recently to see if it was as bad as people said it was and it’s way better than everyone makes it seem. Sure it can lag at some points but I’ve overall had a good experience with it. If the younger me who only had console edition and pocket edition had this version. He would be on it for hours everyday.
I'm glad to hear you've had good experiences with the game on the Switch. It's indeed odd that this version is looked down on as much. My assumption is that it largely comes from people that are used to the PC version, are pro players or have never played the console versions. It's a fine experience, so I don't understand the fuss either. Funny, considering many of us used to play Minecraft with max 10 FPS a decade ago and still had a blast :D
Multi-player on is is horrid though. I hosted a world for my boyfriend who joined me on his PC. The chunks didn't load at all and the game crashed multiple times. It is barely playable sometimes. So it really sucks.
Yeah, as shown in the video, that's easily the weakest part about the Switch version. I'd recommend your boyfriend to host instead or to get a Realms server. There's one Realms server option for only two people that's cheaper. Then you should have a more pleasant experience.
I have been playing Minecraft on my old 2013 Macbook Air, but that died recently so I've been looking into another way to play. It was really disheartening to hear all these people saying it is terrible on the Switch, but your comment has really helped. I'm used to a bit of lag on my Mac,cause it only has 4 gb RAM, and so I've also never been able to install many mods or have a very far render distance or anything like that. So it's nice to hear that it's really not that different from other console versions.
I'm happy to hear the video was of help! As you say, although there are some limitations, you'll have an enjoyable experience just like on other platforms :)
I believe that Mojang should make dedicated small teams for each version of the game. Bedrock runs well on pc but the mobile and console ports seems have way more issues than they should.
Legacy console edition got cancelled BC of having to manually update everything at once and other reasons I forgor
idk man i have minecraft mobile on 3 iphones and a 200$ tablet and they run the game well :) my switch version lags sometimes but once the world chunks are properly loaded its smooth af
@@ThaHammieJaassee Optimization the switch is mobile architecture but it’s not exactly the same
Mobile runs perfect for me, as I say depends of the hardware
Overall performance for BE on all platforms has been on the decline. One of the reasons could be because of the new *Render Dragon* rendering engine. If you ask me, it wasn't exactly necessary to make a new rendering engine from scratch, but of course Nvidia sponsored the game for that sweet RTX compatibility, which is undoubtedly one of the reasons they put so much resources into that.
Other reasons for performance decline may include the new 1.18+ World Gen, and lack of bugfixes and optimization focus.
Having a team for each platform is definitely a good idea. Mojang already has dedicated groups for artwork, sound design, and all that stuff, but Idk if they do for each platform. I don't think that's very realistic right now though. As big as Mojang/Microsoft is, the BE team is still relatively small compared to the game's size and popularity.
My biggest issue is the chunk rendering, my favorite part of Minecraft is exploring and finding ew places to build stuff but i get so annoyed when it doesn’t load I stopped playing it on switch for that
Yeah it's too bad, I've always said that Mojang are absolutely USELESS just look at things like the chat update, not giving a shit about that, and not optimizing their game at all on hardware that's more than powerful enough to run it. And people say the switch is underpowered. But it's the same version of the game that runs on PHONES so anyone who says that is a fool lol
@@Boba_Fett1980 exactly, they don’t care about optimizing the game, it still doesn’t take advantage of the Xbox series s or x and being a Microsoft Studio that’s so disappointing
@@wicho99w99 right, remember they completely lied about us getting ray tracing shaders on the series s and x ? They should be sued honestly for spreading false information. The consoles have been out for years and are more than powerful enough to handle it... Even the series s is. But we're most likely never getting rtx on Xbox.
yeah i deal with that but i still play it
The mobile version is the first i think so i dont think it has issues if mojang ported the pc version from mobile
Here is a quick summary of my experience on the switch.
It used to run very well before 1.16.
Since then more and more issues started showing up.
What used to be quick loading chunks became slow. I kept crashing because of simple things, like opening a chesy or using a firework. More weird issues kept showing up like randomly getting disconnected, or weird game crashes or huge lag spikes.
What used to be a flawless, speedy experience for me, turned into a nightmare. To the point I switched to Laptop.
I’m curious have you had any issues with saving and quitting the game? Cause I’ve had issues where it doesn’t save or after it’s done saving apparently the game is still playing and I’ve gotten killed or found myself in unfamiliar places that I don’t remember going to
yeah that update changed how the game renders, which is RENDER DRAGON. People hate it because there's no shaders now and it's laggier
Minecraft for Nintendo Switch ran much better back when it launched in 2017/2018. I think the 2021 Caves and Cliffs update greatly diminished the performance, and they even lowered the max render distance from 14 to 12 chunks on the Swich version with that update.
That I can agree with, I've had much more loading time and small bugs since 2021. Can't even load into my sonic the hedgehog Mashup that I paid for without the entire game crashing.
huh? My switch’s max chunks are 8…
@@ajayisbetter Are you playing on Realms by chance?
@@mazda9624 no, I just create a world and the max chunks I can do is 8
Not surprised tbh. The switch is 5 Years old and was even at the release not as powerful as some smartphones.
The game evolved (for the cost of needing more resources) but the switch obviously didnt.
Playstation and Xbox are a lot stronger, so you have more room (performance) to play with.
Obviously I dont think Minecraft runs on the xbox now better than 5 years ago, but because of the higher performance its still okay I think.
But on the switch it was probably already at release running at almost 100%, so no wonder it gets worse with every update.
Thanks for making the video. I was here a while ago saying how my Macbook had died and I was unsure about buying the Switch version. I just wanted to report that I ended up getting the Switch version recently and haven't had any problems wth performance or anything like that. As you mention, the controls do feel really weird at first. I'm still not used to them. But considering how long I've been playing on PC for, it's not surprising that it's taking a while to get used to.
How's it holding up?
Thank you for the video. I think most of the blame are on the companies that do a bad job optimising the game. Sometimes I think that they even don’t do the test on a physical consolo before releasing it.
It's basically unplayable now. Opening a chest, your inventory or other similar menus takes forever, and it also takes forever to load blocks when you place or remove them.
This might be more of a Bedrock Edition problem than specifically a Switch problem, but you literally can't build a tower/nerdpole too quickly or else the game will just kill you.
@@maxinehowland8246 I went from switch to PC and a lot of problems went away. The nintendo switch is not a powerful device, so lag and bugs exist.
I think this is more so a bedrock thing, I play on ps4 and this happens alot, it took me a whole ass minute just for it to load the settings
@@Bundle_Exists nah I play on ps4 and xbox series x and neither have this issue. Didn't get this on my phone either. Your ps4 is mabye slowing down
@@maxinehowland8246 I don't think so, I found Bedrock Edition to be more performant with fewer issues on PC, so these definitely seem like Switch/console specific issues.
I think we played different versions... honestly, buy Minecraft on Switch was one of my worst purchases ever. I enjoyed it a lot when I first downloaded it. Playing it on a decent size screen while lying on my bed was quite a great experience, and I have hundreds of hours with the game on my Switch (really, more than 800). Actually, the game almost felt like a good port.
The problems came when my worlds were above 100 MB of space - which is not that much, if you're a player who likes to play on the same world for several months. Then the problems became so notorious: a lot of lag even when playing offline, the chunks taking a lot to render, the FPS dropped below the 25 frames most of the time, and the autosave taking like 5 minutes to complete, lagging all of your world in the process, just to repeat it after a minute or so (you can't disable it).
Another thing that I really don't understand is the volume of the save data. It's HUGE. The game barely reaches 1.2 GB of space, but then I realized that only the save files were 1.8 GB, more than the game itself. And I gotta say it again, my worlds were never above the 100 MB, and had no texture packs installed. So, why was it so huge? Even when deleting my save files, I entered to the game to see what was the initial size of the save data. I didn't create a world, just opened the game: the size was already 275 MB. For literally nothing.
I'm so sorry to write all of this, maybe just a few will read it all, but I'm so tired to see that the game is on the best sellers tab every week even when it is such a bad port. I ended up buying the PC version for my laptop, and it's an infinitely better version (it ain't a powerful laptop, but runs Minecraft Bedrock almost at 60 FPS with 10 chunks of render distance).
Your video was very good, and I really enjoyed watching it, but I think it represents only the bright side of the game on Switch. However, I would suggest you to verify all what I said here and, if you find this to be true, make another video to inform to the people about this awful port. Maybe that will help to reach Mojang so they can finally fix this version.
Yeah, I also bought it on 2020, and it was actually a good experience back then (1.15 - 1.16), pretty enjoyable to say the least. It had its issues, but nothing compared to what it is right now. Today you just can't invest your time in a world because you know it'll become unplayable after a few weeks of progress. I hope the Switch community would someday unite to make Mojang finally take us seriously.
I never had any problems. But I haven’t played my world in 1-2+ years.
@@_signcash Actually, some months ago I joined a realm playing on the Switch because my laptop had some problems and had to be formatted; surprisingly for me, I actually enjoyed playing it on the console. It wasn't perfect, but I had a great time I hadn't have since 2020. So yeah, probably there've been some fixes over the years. However, to anyone looking to buy it on Switch, I would still recommend to buy it on other platform if you have the chance. Just to be sure.
This is exactly the Minecraft switch video I was looking for! Thank you for taking the extra step and going above and beyond. Testing things like digital vs physical copy of the game as well as hosting vs joining a realm. I am sold. Thanks for the informative video!
I play the Switch edition with my son in local co-op using 2 systems rather than split screen, although we could play on PC or Xbox One. The overall experience is positive and it's fun. I absolutely agree that travelling by boat is by far the game at its worst performance, but beyond that, there's nothing that strikes me as particularly bad about this version. As you said, it's poorly optimised, and as Minecraft Dungeons also runs poorly at times on Switch, it's a Mojang issue over a hardware issue.
I never really play on the switch anymore, but when I used to play, I would turn off the clouds and fancy graphics and controller. Hence those usually made the game more smooth.
Hearing people say Nintendo switch version sucks just gets me sad because i got a Nintendo switch for christmas in 2021 and the only game i wanted is minecraft and its like the littearly same
@Spiral well I dont lag on my Nintendo
@@BITTENDONUT73 stop lying to yourself, i guarantee you it has lagged
I had a long term survival world on the Switch. It ran quite okay before 1.16 but, after more and more updates especially after 1.18 with the new generation. It ran terrible, flying with a elytra is very painful
Do you mean frame drops or the chunk loading issue? I'm actually curious about what flying with an elytra must be like. Probably getting stuck on invisible walls and then losing all momentum?
@@smallthoughts_nl Yes extremely low chunk rendering. Even when I put it to 5 chunks. When you try to fly normally you crash into invisible walls, and in the worst case you can die from kinetic energy. A phone from 2012 can run Minecraft better than the switch. I am so glad I changed to Xbox and PC. But I can 100% confirm the pain Switch Players have.
I don't know how mojang keeps neglecting performance on minecraft for nintendo switch. The game just doesn't feal stable at any time and compared to other games on switch and it crashes way way way more for no reason. I have minecraft for Wii U and that game is so much better with performance, render distance and stability. It is a shame that minecraft runs better on older weaker hardware then the nintendo switch.
We need 4j Studios back. They done so well with Legacy Edition
@@JK2002- that depends on which phone you're talking about. There aren't and weren't that many people that have 700-1000$ phones, most people have 100-200$ phones that are obviously weaker than Switch. And ofc phones run Minecraft at max resolution, while Switch runs it at 720p. For instance, I also noticed some problems at my A51 after 1.18, which is in fact a mid-range 2020 phone (though it turned out to be not a gaming phone since it has noticeable input delay)
The only downside i see in the switch version is the chunk rendering, which is pretty slow, but at the same time it can become an OP "feature"
So i was playing in my world on the switch version and while chunks were loading i was litterally able to see whats underground, and in the end i found a mineshaft
That's part of the switch 'experience' sadly. sometimes it gets in the way while exploring the map.
What I dislike the most is that nothing syncs between devices.
P.S. what determines the hardware I play games on depends on what the game was optimised/meant for first, because all other alternatives are just taped together, it helps deciding what device to play it on and makes the experience better imo. So even if everything is fixed with MC Console / Mobile, I won’t care because I don’t want to juggle devices.
In fact this is the problem with most software in general… I mean I have an entire document dedicated to my opinion on this kind of stuff that I hope to turn into a video… but I know I won’t 😞
There are a lot of little problems, but there were two major problems and one outside influence that really made me stop playing the Switch Edition. The first problem was that the game kept logging me out on my Microsoft account, and it's a massive pain to log back in, because you can't do it from within the game. When you aren't logged in, you can't play your maps from the store, which was a deal breaker for me because I play Skyblock the most and I was using a generic store bought Skyblock map. The second major reason I don't play Switch Edition anymore was the 1.17 (I think) update. It was whenever it was that the Y height was changed. All the maps from before then on the store could not be updated beyond that, so they would always be stuck at that update. They did this to avoid breaking maps that were designed with the old Y height, but it also meant that the main map I played on the Switch was essentially a time capsule.
I am often on the road, so portable was the only way to reliably play, even though I prefer Java Edition. I played PE back when it first released, but I don't like the touch controls these days and switching from the switch to PE wouldn't fix the marketplace mapanyway. I have the Vita Edition, which is also portable, but it's stuck all the way back on the update aquatic, so I had no real alternative to the Switch Edition when on the road.
But all that changed when my Steam Deck arrived, which meant that I had another way to play Minecraft on the go. I put Java Edition on it, manually recreated the Bedrock controls with Steam Input because I didn't know there were controller support mods for Java Edition, and have been playing that ever since. I actually went into creative and recreated my Switch Skyblock map block for block so that I could continue the map that I had spent so much time on. Haven't looked back.
as i say everytime. if a console has minecraft, buy it, u wont regret it. minecraft is just such a great game that it doesnt really matter how bad ppl will say is, minecraft is always a good game, so dont trust them and buy it urself. ur gonna thank me later.
I love it
You have a point I find super amazing
True
I started playing minecraft in 2012 on pc, but this has become my new favourite way to play. I just love the portability and convenience of it. Pocket edition always suffered from poor controls, so the switch edition is IMO the best version to just pick up and play whenever.
This video is amazing 🥺 thank you so so much for so much input on the controls and everything the switch can do with Minecraft and how it looks in handheld and playability
Happy to hear you liked the video! I'm always looking for new topics to make videos on, so let me know if there's anything Minecraft or Nintendo related that would interest you :)
Personally I thought getting Minecraft on the switch my experience was fine. I decided to build a mega Japanese village with multiple building. Later down the line my world got very slow. The world would only load my chunk that I had my village and struggle very hard to load any other chunk and sometimes my game would freeze up and had to wait minutes to move steve. I switched to playstation Minecraft and had no issues on that platform
I think what it comes down to is that the people who say they "don't have issues" just haven't explored/built enough to get to that critical mass where it starts affecting them. All Switches/versions of the game are going to be the same, so it's just a matter of world size/complexity.
It's crazy how it used to run pretty well on switch, but with updates not really being optimized for the switch, it has made the game a laggy stuttering mess that just makes it unplayable.
I always disliked the bedrock edition for how scummy the marketplace is and how the game is a copy and paste from each console without the love and care that was put into each console port from 4j studios, but I will say I have warmed up to the game doesn't mean I don't see the legacy no pun intended that it trampled but it could've been worse, I plan to buy a Nintendo switch copy tomorrow
Yeah, the marketplace could really profit from a cleanup and more quality control. It's an odd experience to say the least. I got a bit curious and looked into the versions from 4J Studios that you mentioned. They look very nostalgic and cool, but in what way are they unique to each console? I suppose the copy and paste feel could be the result from the crossplay feature.
@@smallthoughts_nl there specifically made for each console unlike the bedrock port.
I have like 300 hours in the game but
After a long time of playing the world gets very laggy and broken so I think I’ll move on to pc one day
I got Minecraft on the switch yesterday it was the greatest experience ever
for me the issue is that its kinda overpriced, i have it on my phone from my cousin account and it runs very smooth and the switch version runs the same and looks the same so i kinda ignore it

i've been playing nintendo minecraft since 2018 (a year after the switch came out)
not once have i had a problem

Pvp isnt an issue
Marketplace is top tier
Theres Literally nothing wrong with nintendo minecraft
On my world (before I gave up an moved to an iPad with a controller) I used to get below 20fps with constant 30+ second freezes where all the mobs could still move and attack, but I couldn’t. This was a 140mb world BTW. It’s 250mb on my iPad now, and I hate to think what it would be like if I had continued with the switch.
I had great experiences playing on switch until the caves update. It seems that when the system has to render in twice the vertical distance, it's too much for it. My 12 year old just got into it, and let me tell you SPLIT SCREEN IS ALMOST COMPLETELY UNPLAYABLE. Any time the game is autosaving (every 2-3 minutes), you have about 30 seconds where block changes are not shown. You can't see any changes to blocks you've placed or mined. This can result in at minimum frustration, and at most death.
Ive played this version for a couple hundred hours, its great being able to take it anywhere. Now i play the java version on my steamdeck oled, its surprisingly playable (90fps 20 chunks with the fabulously optimized mod)
being honest the only thing i hate in this version is the lag in the splitscreen, the chunks taking forever to load when i go a bit fast and on how tiny the chunk limit is
Minecraft Bedrock has had controller latency problems ever since version 1.18.30. It's not just the switch that is imprecise it's the games fault. It is currently fixed in the newest beta 1.20.30 so keep an eye out for the release.
It's annoying really. Not only did the rendering engine change make the game slower for no discernable advantages but the controld have been compromised too. Bedrock really needs an optimization update, the switch should still easily play the game without problem.
the problem isn't the console, the Switch is already plenty more powerful than a WiiU and that version ran with no issues, the problem is the game itself and its bad optimization on consoles, because in PS4 and Xbox One the Bedrock Edition in its current state has performance issues there as well, and there's also the fact the Legacy Switch Edition (the one that had Nintendo Switch Edition in the title) didn't have performance issues either, the problem is with more updates rolling over, they don't optimize them properly, and the games performs worse and worse on all previous gen consoles as time goes on, if you got a PS5 or Xbox Series or even better almost any PC or any mid range phone then you'll have no issues
though I found a fix that works for me personally, which is disabling fancy bubbles and turning antialiasing down to 1, unlike PC, the aliasing effect isn't as noticeable, and fancy bubbles don't really make a noticeable visual difference but do quite hit performance, turning down both options the performance becomes much better (although not fixing the poor performance in servers) and if you're not sure you can still turn down render distance to between 8 to 10 chunks, I have it on 12 tho since with those two changes it's already good for me, and I play mostly in single player, when I do play multiplayer it's usually with just 1 or 2 more people so that doesn't hit performance either, plus I also have a PS4 nad a PC so I can also use the PS4 for a better splitscreen experience since my Switch is a Lite, since the performance issues exist on other platforms maybe those who play on the other consoles could also try it to smooth out their game, granted it won't fix the elephant in the room of worst case scenario when having too much entities on screen, that will still kill your FPS so remember to leep your farm sizes moderate, I'd say around 4 of each animal, because in a multiplayer world I used to play in, even from my PS4 the framerate went down when looking at the quintillion cows locked down in a 5x5 area
Minecraft is my favourite game on my switch don’t listen to the people who think it’s bad
As someone who used to play Java Edition with a really crappy and slow computer... Nintendo Switch Minecraft performs fine (lol).
Third party games struggle a lot one Nintendo Switch. The system is designed for optimization. Its cheaper to manufacture and runs smoothly so long as you actually optimize the game for the system. The people who make Nintendo games are masters at making the best of limited performance, which is why games like Odyssey, Breath of the Wild, and Mario Kart look so good and can handle so much at once. Meanwhile, A Hat in Time, Minecraft, Minecraft Dungeons, Subnautica, and other third party games have noticeable bugs and occasional performance struggles because they weren't designed for the system... in the case of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, those games were made by Gamefreak. Nintendo owns part of the franchise, which is why they only show up on Nintendo consoles... but despite that the team that makes them is very small (the size of an indie game company essentially) and they are _not_ very good at optimization due to their small team and rushed development time.
The only real problem i have is the nether loading. Thats never fair but then i get exclusive packs and creative fun maps it makes me overlook it.
Of all days, my wife decided she wanted to learn to play minecraft TODAY. So i set it up on the switch so she can play with me on xbox. Let me say it has been a damn chore to set this up for her today. Mojang needs me to sign in to a Microsoft account on my nintendo. THEN the game needs me to have an switch online plan. We played for about an hour and now she gets kicked out because of maintenance? This game has all but asked for my first born to download and setup and now she cant even play despite me still being able to play on xbox and no maintenance on my side. MC on Switch fucking sucks
I understand your frustration, and that really sounds like a whole set of unfortunate events all at the same time. It really is tedious to setup initially, especially with how awkward it feels to have to create a Microsoft account to play on a Nintendo console. Personally, I've never had the issue with maintenance, so that's odd. But from what I can hear, you're past all the cumbersome processes. Hopefully it'll be more pleasant next time you try! I think it's worth it once both of you stand next to eachother in the same Minecraft world. I've played many hours with my girlfriend and time can really fly :)
@@smallthoughts_nl the detail screen kept saying maintenance was supposed to be finished by 11. Even at 11:15, 11:30: 11:45, maintenance was scheduled to end at 11. Maybe today will be a better day
Can you make a short update on how the game is now almost 2 years later? The next update would release 2 days from now by the time I comment this.
I'm curious to see whether the game got better or worse, since for my phone a lot of the bugs and sluggishness was fixed after the recent updates.
It’s so laggy now😭😭😭 the frame rate is absolutely horrible. It’s a shame too, I loved playing Minecraft on my switch😢 oh well
The switch version on its own is fine. But if you reach near the storage limit on the game it can mess up everything. Because I had low storage on the game, now it tends to crash and freeze up a bunch making it really hard to play. I assume if I get an SD card or something to help with my storage issue it should fix this but at the moment its unplayable for me lol. But before I had any issues I had a great time with it. 👍
By crashing, you mean that the game stops, there's a notification about the storage limit, and you're brought back to the Minecraft main menu? If so, I've had that happen as well with the Disney World map. Perhaps an SD card does indeed help, but I found it odd considering there's still space left on the internal storage. I'm not sure how to adjust it so Minecraft can use up more space. If someone knows a fix to this, I'm curious about it, too. It's a really frustrating issue.
@@smallthoughts_nl yeah!

i have both switch edition on my switch lite and pocket edition on my ipad, i much prefer pocket edition since it runs better overall, i can import custom skins from my photo gallery, and it's way less annoying to log into my microsoft account or access the marketplace. this is just my experience though, seeing as my ipad is a 9th gen ipad which has generally good performance overall anyway.
This video made me buy Minecraft on my switch, I can't play it on my laptop as it's extremely weak. I'm not surprised that gamers will tell you a game sucks if it doesn't have absolutely PERFECT FPS and everything. :U I think it was their fault I didn't get Minecraft for so long, I was worried it would've been a waste.
It's indeed nice to have a console you can rely on when your laptop is weaker. When I looked up information on this version of Minecraft, it really did give off a misleading impression of the game. So I'm happy to hear this video helped you decide!
When compared to it's predecessor console edition it is considerably worse hence the bad name Bedrock has in the community. I do agree that in certain aspects the game doesn't run as bad as people say, but there are a lot of bugs and performance issues that need to be ironed out before the game can be on the same level as the version 4J Studios made.
things dont need to be perfect, but when you are trying to play with friends and it consistantly kicks you from the server, has issues loading, constant fram drops, and overall performace issues, then yes, it is an issue
Yeah it isn’t the best version obviously but it’s literally fine it’s pocket edition. It doesn’t lag if you don’t put every setting on max like come on. It’s just like ps4 or Xbox version with some Nintendo things thrown in
Guys I take this back I’ve been playing on my switch for the past month since making this comment and while single player is perfectly fine, my realm lags like CRAZY that’s about it tho just terrible lag on realms
My nephew has severe Autism, takes medication which reduces his appetite and other issues. He has been asking me to get him Minecraft on the Switch. Once he is home from school (he is 11), the meds start to wear off and he becomes ravenous (hungry) and wants to play on the switch. I try to limit how long he can use it, but its tough. Is it worth me paying $50 dollars AUD for Minecraft for the switch. I have it on my computer, He loves playing it on there and I feel it is probably one of the better games for creativity etc, instead of alot of the app games he downloads and i have to delete. I need an honest opinion if its worth getting on the switch for a 11 year old with Autism.
The thing is Minecraft Bedrock on the Switch just feels like a much inferior version to every other version of Minecraft Bedrock. There are better ways to play Minecraft Bedrock, and heck, there's a better version of Minecraft that's also on Switch (which you can't buy)
I have almost 200 hours on the switch version of minecraft and here is my honest opinion and why now I play on my low end laptop that barely reaches 30 fps:
- The loading times for chunks and nether made it being really hard to continue with my survival world in which i have many things far one from another, since traveling was just waiting until the chunk loaded for more than half the time, and the nether shortcut was an immediate death
- There are a lot of crashes. Right now, the current version seems more stable and with not so many crashes, but as someone who has the switch version of the game since 1.14, crashes have been a usual thing, and even when an update fixes most crashes, sooner or later there will be another update that breaks the game again
I don't blame the switch for being underpowered or anything in this case, but rather the game itself. Look at the Wii U, a console with the same power or maybe even a bit less. It has a completely different version of Minecraft made by 4J Studios instead of Microsoft and it NEVER gave any of the problems the switch version of the game has. So I believe that's enough proof that, in this case, we shouldn't blame the switch's hardware, but the game itself, as the exact same game that runs on the switch with so many problems runs almost flawlessly on my low end laptop
As of late 2022 or early 2023 the Nintendo Switch has been my primary way of playing Minecraft. Personally control wise I think it really does depend on preference. I might go back to mobile but I almost always rely on my switch for gaming so it just makes it that much easier instead of switching between devices. I was starting to deal with more lag on my phone & when you I made the move to my switch it did help with that lag. I still do have some lag spikes here and there but it’s not as bad as people make it seem.
The xbox one version of Minecraft gave me a headache. It runs perfectly, but sometimes it will crash randomly and it takes a total of 3 minutes to even get to the title screen. That’s excluding loading times, which have the same issue as Switch. I barely ever play it and prefer the switch version.
I’m impressed. I stopped playing on the Switch because I encountered too many crashes and lags on small worlds and expected it to only get worse with a growing world.
I say its worth it. As far i seen theres really not anythibg wrong with it. Its just that people cant play with a controller or argue that it isnt 120+ fps. Im glad that you did this review
You misstyped u said anythibg ik you mean anything
has a shit tons of performance issues and bugs

Thank you for making this video, was on the fence, to many people shit talk the switch just to do it, the switch is capable of some crazy things lol
I am just surprised how good the old console editions were compared to this which is on something more powerful unless I’m remembering wrong, but I just wish 4j studios was still making the console edition because I bet they could do a better job from doing it on a lot of consoles and the only thing bad about the legacy console edition are finite worlds and no cross play which could probably have been added at some point
From what I'm understand is that it runs the same way as a phone or tablet bc I have it on my iPad and most of those issues is the same, so the only thing they should complain about is the price on my iPad it's $7 as for the switch it's $29 unless they plan on updating and try fixing the problem than it better on the phone or tablet
I’ve played Minecraft for 3 Years And 2 years on switch End Minecraft on the switch is the best Experiment Of my life
the game performs better on an android tablet or phone for considerably less than the cost of a switch
I play minecraft for the first time ever on My switch I loved it I put over 100 hours of gameplay now I have an Xbox and play it there
this is how the game works. the bedrock edititon is exactly the same on every device. i remember having the issues you are having with the switch on my old android phone with a slow cpu. the game will not lag that much but the cpu will struggle loading the world hence why the delayed loding in on servers, it has always been like that on bedrock edition and i dont think they could do much other than making you invincible while you are still loading in
They just released a bug fix for the lag on switch. Thank you
I main on switch, and its really good. Doesnt lag, from my perspective. The only problem i have is the chunks taking forever to load. Other than that i like it
With my Nintendo switch playing Minecraft, sometimes the chunks take a long time to load other times they load really quickly I would have to say it depends cause I play single player so it could depend on the world so who knows because I rarely have to wait a long time for things to load so who knows.
It’s not about the system itself being underpowered. Minecraft runs better on an iPhone than it does on a switch, PlayStation 5, or even a Xbox Series S. Mojang has done an abhorrent job optimizing this game for console releases.
I have access to minecraft on both phone and switch, but choose phone instead because of higher render distance lol
As a person who’s played on Minecraft on switch for about 5 years I can say that the Nintendo switch vision is not horrible there’s just some minor things that are bad. Sometimes when I’m typing and click enter to send the message doesn’t go through and I have to re type the whole message. Also when you load into Minecraft you have to wait for everything to load so that you can go into a realm or your friends world because if you don’t wait a go to load in the world or realm you have to wait a long time and when you do it say ergo and you have to wait for the Home Screen to load. And the other thing is that when you load in new chunks when exploring out sometimes you have to wait 2 to 3 minutes for the chunk just to load and it’s also frustrating when your in the ocean on a boat. But overall Minecraft on Nintendo switch is not that bad and some of the bugs I’ve found with my friends have been quite fun to play with it just depends on what you prefer to play on console, bedrock, Java it just depends.
I am a seasoned player on the switch and let me tell you there are many times where you can pready much not be able to play the game for 4 months your game will run fin for around 200 hours and then it will just lag like crazy and when I played on pc it felt so much better
Love your video, explained my thoughts on the game exactly. I’ve played the OG Kindle Fire version when I was in middle school so working around those few loading and lagging issues does bother me. Plus I can play the game anywhere I go with wifi on a realm or anywhere in my own world!
I Play minecraft on the switch and it’s fine I guess… HOWEVER my biggest and most frustrating issue that I have with it is the chunks taking 1000 years to load and it’s incredibly annoying. Even when I die and then respawn, I would have to wait for an annoyingly long time for the chunks to load in. Sometimes it wouldn’t even let me move until the chunks load.
My solution for the controller typing is just using the touch screen which is what i use most often
As someone who has Minecraft on Xbox I do encounter some of the same problems except for the chunks not loading

du bist niederländisch oder? cool obwohl ich deutsch bin verstehe ich viele texte auf niederländisch 😂 sehr ähnliche sprache
@@TheAndy71brown what ?
Nicht ganz, ursprünglich aus der Schweiz, aber nun in den Niederlanden. Klingt tatsächlich ein bisschen wie betrunkenes Deutsch manchmal 😆
I have played minecraft on switch for over 700 hours.
My experience was like this, i have a world and i can’t stay in the main area too much bc it lags(i have like 3 beacons and lot of mobs there so it’s obvius), sometimes when i play online in my wolrd lags a bit and sometimes bugs out, but on server it’s a different story, it doesn’t lag at all and works so well, when i play alone in my world i do not have any issues
I swear it used to run good but i just went on my old world a week ago and its so slow
Yes! Love see someone fill in the hole for a missing video. Good video!
I feel that all the people who say minecraft on switch is bad play on some super powerful gaming pc. I like how this video is from someone who isn’t used to 240 fps😂
Minecraft is a shitty low quality game that a literal potato can run. Its jsut a dumb block building game. Not some triple a competitive fast pace action game. Buying a 2000$ computer just to play this crap is stupid when any smart phone can play it
I got it in 2020 and it was the first time since I started playing MC for like 10 years that I best the dragon I just loved being able to play it anywhere even though it can be laggy and stuff it's enjoyable and no terrible like most reviews say
The only problem I have is chunk load takes so long to the point I switched to the ps4 version
The Switch isn't the problem but Mojang is. Their game is unoptimized and because of that it doesn't run on the Switch, but it definetly could. The problem is never the console, it always is the developer
i have a realm on switch, I already have pretty big constructions, nothing too crazy but big and there are several houses. Also im building an automatic storage system which for now is working fine. After months of playing with friends, the neighborhood started to get laggy the first load, but after that it works fine.
the fps are not the best but also not something it bugs me, tbh i would recommend it to everyone except for hardcore players which expect high performance and huge servers. been playing on my switch since more than two years.
my only real complain is when the game starts, it takes its time to load your avatar and signing in into your microsoft account
If you got the old console version then its a dream. Bedrock though...
I put 100’s of hours on the switch but lately its been unplayable even on new worlds. If i walk 10 blocks in any direction the world is just blank abyss and takes minutes to load just a couple blocks in any direction. I love it so much i bought it on ps5 and cant believe how much better it plays. Java on my comp is great too. In the past i got my money worth but id recommend it on any other platform as its pretty much unplayable on switch for me as of late.
Honestly loved the game on switch! Made about 7 houses and played 6 hours of survival
I don't know how you can ignore the fact that the game takes a good second or two for the game to react to whatever you're doing. I'd rather have a low frame-rate over "server lag".
Also, this version of the game didn't ship like this. The _updates_ made it like this.
there used to be a massive lag spike every time it saved but it gone now. other than the draw distance it no different than any other bedrock game
like the lag spike was so bad i died a couple times
Nearly all of my time is on single player mode because my siblings never want to play Minecraft with me😂
I mean… you can play Minecraft on the phone you’re watching this video on for a fraction of the price, and if you really wanted to use a controller you could get a cheap Bluetooth controller and have a better experience than the switch version. That’s not even mentioning all of the custom content like skins and maps that you can’t get in the switch version without paying.
The Xbox version tends to delete saves (get around this by making occasional backups), the Switch version runs a little rougher due to the outdated hardware and Mojang not caring enough to optimize it better, and the PlayStation version, although being the best port, IMO, still crashes from time to time.
Pick your poison.
Finally someone who agrees that switch version is great, servers are also amazing
They say it's bad because they compare it to play pvp on servers
It’s a relatively cheap game and one you can just play without much thought. A lot of people say it’s not very great but for what it is, it’s perfect for me!
To chat quicker, I connected a keyboard to the switch, mouse doesn’t work tho. When I lost my desktop pc during COVID, I used my switch as a substitute and worked perfectly fine.
I hv 1500h on minecraft switch... and i still played without goods performances... minecraft switch isnt this bad
My brother gave me his Nintendo oled, because he bought a new console he said i can buy minecraft so we can play together in a server. I wanted to see reviews on it and i saw lots of negative ones, but now i saw yours i might consider buying it 😊
The Switch version runs 720p on handheld and 800p on TV mode. Pretty lame considering we're in 2023...
You probably melt if a game runs at 45fps
2:00 Fun Fact! you can plug a keyboard into your switch dock and type messages on it!
That's the most unconventional tip I've ever heard that’s both practical and impractical at the same time 😆
Thank you for the video review/perspective.
the chunks are not loading when i move fast issue is not exlusive to switch version tho i have a very powerfull pc but i still encounter these type of things especially when i use boats
13:18 yeah this happens in pc bedrock when you alt tab in pc and come back again almost all the issues you said are just general minecraft bedrock issues not switch :3
I miss legacy edition 😢
Very nice and well put together video! You explain calmly but detailed all the pro's and cons and that in the end it's fine and still Minecraft to be enjoyed to its fullest :)
The only thing that I hate but understand is that when I used the fallout texture pack, not all the textures were changes like the console versions. For example, the weapon and armor for netherite are not changed. But it makes sense with all the lag and saving it from more lag because tbh more people would use the original texture other then fallout. But I haven't played any other texture to see if they are all the same.
most of the complaints in this video are not switch related. they are either about playing on console in general vs PC, or issues with bedrock edition experienced on any platform.
It costs double and lags so much. It’s just fine for my 5-year-old, but I prefer PS5 & PC
I’d say it sounds fun to have Minecraft on the go.
