Crocodiles can’t be tamed. Some people do have a crocodile as a pet, yet keeping a crocodile in captivity does not mean that the animal can be tamed or domesticated. I've never seen anyone with a relationship with a gator like this before - I've always thought of crocs and gators as fairly instinctual creatures that given the opportunity, would eat you without a second thought. I'm fascinated by how he seems to enjoy keeping a foot on you, and comes up for a kiss every so often. I feel like the way I view these animals just changed, haha

I think the record of Alligator memory is Saturn the alligator, who survived the bombing of Berlin zoo and the subsequent battles in WW2, and then, after being moved to Moscow and living there for decades, zookeepers noticed he still had PTSD when he heard tanks passing by the zoo during the fall of the Soviet Union.

I find it more amazing that Alligators will put nesting materials on their nose, so as to attract birds that attempt to take the nesting materials and end up as a snack.

My was that they are instinctual creatures with little reasoning, and even if tamed they're still likely to mistake you from someone else and kill you. I miss Rex. I raised an alligator for 22yrs and I was diagnosed with ALS. I had to find homes for all my reptiles. Rex was 11ft 6inch 475lb gator. About 25yrs ago I did alligator tours in south Louisiana. This is where I was so happy when I got a hatchling for my bithday. He was my pet dog.
Now as far as their memory. The saying a fed gator is a dead gator. If you relocate that gator, doesn't matter 5 or 50 miles. That gator will make its way back to that place where food was easy to get. This is why they will either euthanize or put it in a alligator sanctuary. Thats if you get lucky enough to find one.
I have been are round gators and Crocodiles my entire life. If you know anything about crocodilians then you might see a connection with my last name.
Take care and I am glad to see videos like this. To show that they aren't just killers and that they can love a person. Yes love. They can't show the love the same way a dog or cat can. How to tell if a gator loves you? If he or she isn't trying to eat you or growling and hissing at you. Thats love. But never get into the water unless you have the training and a will made out.

Also he isn’t tamed, he’s trained.
There is a difference. Casper recognizes that patterns of behavior results in him getting easy access to food, so Casper will repeat those patterns thus allowing him to get an easy meal.
But this does not mean he is tamed. At the end of the day he is an apex predator with millions of years of instinct backing him up. Crocodilians are powerful and resilient species and must be respected as such.

😲👈Was born n raised in Florida.. Miami to be exact..
I've seen gators in the wild.. I'll just say it's very surreal when you see a crane (bird) barely in the water on the other side of a 30 foot wide canal, then the water surface is breached by a 5 foot gator grabs and takes the bird under in a split second all the while the poor bird is screeching for help...
I watched the gator do the death roll for a few seconds, then descend farther down in the water.. Leaving only a few bubbles in its wake..

There’s a small wildlife preserve near me that’s popular with birders. It had 3 alligators in it affectionately dubbed Boots, Belt, and Bags.
Well, Boots started wandering over to a spot near a Dollar General store and tourists (and a few locals) thought it was funny to feed him. So Boots kept going back and each time got closer to the parking lot, and thus closer to people. But folks kept throwing food to him, so he kept going back and kept begging for more.
Why hunt when these weird hairless, featherless bipeds will just give you free food?
Eventually the Parks and Wildlife Department had to take him away. They moved him to a different wildlife preserve several hundred miles away. But if he finds his way to people again, he’ll have to be put down. The only reason he wasn’t killed outright is because there was such outcry from the community and because his original home was a wildlife preserve.
So Bags lost her mate, the birders lost one of their very beloved mascots, and Boots might lose his life all because people thought it was funny to throw Cheetos and lunch meat at a wild alligator.

Yea sadly it’s not a good idea to feed any wild animal as if you don’t have food then said animal may attack it is sad but it is ultimately for the better (apart from the whole murder the gator thing)

Thankfully Texas is vast enough that we can try relocating “nuisance gators” (I’d argue that the humans are the nuisance, not the gator) and hope they’re far enough from people that they don’t cause an issue.
But it was harder with Boots since he’s from a beach community and the place he lived is actually brackish water, so they had to find another wetland on the coast for him. But the coast is definitely more populated with humans than some of the inland areas.
Florida is so densely populated, has so many gators, and is so much smaller than Texas that they don’t really have the option of safe relocation in the wild. That’s why nuisance gators there either go to a park (rarely) or are killed right away.
