    I was a cop (recently retired). I can't tell you the number of people I've seen who have died in their homes and their animals (cats & dogs) ended up feeding on their owner's body. It's not just alligators that will eat their owners while "incapacitated".

    • @honestlyonyx262

      I think about this all the time. Animals all think differently from us and each other; we aren't all wired the same. For example, people get so freaked out when they find out how common cannibalism is in the wild, or how certain species treat their young. Personally, I believe it's important to learn what goes on outside the bubble of human society, both in order to understand the world around us and who we share it with, as well as to keep ourselves and others safe.

      Remember the show Fatal Attraction? All about those owners who died from their pet snakes, chips, big cat, lizards, iguanas, ...all thinking they had a special relationship with their pets.

    • @salmasalute
      @salmasalute 2 года назад +1223

      U have to know there is a difference between dying and being incapacitated. I mean when I'm coughing so hard and then i throw up like what happened to me a couple of days ago my dog runs to me concerned sitting next to me licking my face. She won't eat me because I'm incapacitated. If I die on the other hand that's totally different and its only normal for my dog to feed on my dead body when I'm dead and there's nothing else to eat.

    • @sharifaa.8887
      @sharifaa.8887 2 года назад +1312

      @@salmasalute I agree. Domesticated animals will not eat their owner just because the owner is sick or hurt. Sometimes they will even try to help. But once the owner dies, the animals are left with their primary caretaker dead and no one to feed them and take care of them. Then dead human eventually starts to smell like dead meat and instincts call for the animals to survive instead of slowly starve to death.
      Wild animals have the instinct to attack at any show of weakness like sickness or injury.

      It's hard to tell with alligators. Only the owners can really know. It's not impossible for alligators to bond with their owners, but it's VERY rare. It takes luck to get an alligator that can be tamed. It's basically like how we domesticated wolves. You need to have an individual that's born tamer than others, and you need to be a person that that individual really likes for one reason or another. I can think of exactly two crocodilians that have bonded with their owner, Pocho and Wally. Wally I'm not even sure if he is actually bonded or not. Pocho though definitely did bond with his owner. He followed him home and refused to leave, and exhibited play behaviors like they do with their friends in the wild.

    Fascinating. So essentially, as long as Casper still perceives you as “you” (that being; an able-bodied creature that is aware of him and respects his space) he will not harm you. But as soon as something compromises that perception he has of you, you will just be seen as another opportunistic meal.

    • @unbothered5240
      @unbothered5240 2 года назад +69

      That's a bit of a reduced version, again humanizing his perception.
      In a realistic and blunt sense, along as Caspar senses there's no weakness or vulnerability that would cause a shift in their current dynamic, he's not going to attack. Because he's trained to think that his trainer is superior. They have a symbiotic relationship currently.
      Caspar performs x y z, he gets meals. He doesn't upset trainer doing x y z, he gets meals. So he's fine with their current partnership. However, this guy is still a large meal for him. If he sensesv that the meal is now suddenly available to him, he's going to have it.
      It's less a humanized perception, and very very black and white in that they relationship is currently beneficial to him. Most trained animals prefer that benefit, or they're raised only knowing it. But instinctively if the dynamic even seems to shift, they're going to presume the position of a predator and devour / kill /dominate.

    Whether or not he loves you doesn’t matter. You are correct in your approach and it’s clear that you have respect for who you’re hanging out with, so cheers! This is a very good video and you really illustrated some very good points about how many people think in extremes and also how any animal on this planet will behave like other animals if it’s kind, no matter how badly we wish they’d act like Fido or not.
    One thing that I have learned about animals (excluding dogs, cats and humans) from raising snakes and turtles is that they do not identify with anything on the same level that we do because they are driven by much different instincts, and if one tries to exert control over them in a bid to handle them on *our* terms, it will become readily apparent that it’s actually the other way around.
