    I think Slap Chop is great especially for those not just starting or not confident in mini painting because it helps teaches some skills that are used often. Comic Book/Cell Shaded is definitely one of the styles that you go to as an experiment when you have confidence like you did and it came out great but like you said it took a while. So I think both have their merits

      Look at/for optivisors mate. I'm long sighted and my near vision is awful too. They have near focus lenses and they're really good. I can wear mine over my glasses - so I can see - and then the lens of the Optivisor bring the focus in near. You can buy different lenses with different magnification. You'll probably find some on Ebay. It is worth getting the branded Optivisor, I've had mine for years. My lens is either 1.5 or 2.0 x magnification.

    I think it is all about an aim, if you need quick and dirty, then start with slapping, if you want to take it up mix them, want Judge Dredd (comic) then straight comic style would be best, because that nearly stands out for people that even just only know the movies, because one is levels above the other. I think that if you put where you think is the fore ground a bit bold comic it would make Your style. The 2 tips that I have is still pink before yellow and there is this FolkArt EXTREME Glitter 2796 Hologram. The paint is a clear coat with glitter that when you twirl your minis it gives suprise flashes of colors and can be combined with other paints for a wow factor, I'm STILL working on FOWW minis and this one long rilfe came out awesome at my lack of level, but I back splashed the mini's hair and hands...so I'm stuck looking for smaller than small brushes.

    I like both those Kratorcs :). I don't know if I ever try cell shading myself, though. As for slapchop, I do like it. Watched a lot of videos on the topic and one day (two weeks ago) I was like "ok, so I have speedpaints and contrasts from previous experiments and 3 already primed night goblins from WFB, gotta try out this technique" and I do love it. The experiment was a success (the models are not finished yet, but they look really nice for the tabletop), so now I'm relatively slowly working through a bunch of old uruk-hai and Ugluk. Those buggers armoured as hell, so basecoating the armour took a lot of time, but the rest was really fast in comparison. Now I gotta fix some mistakes, paint the teeth and shade the armour and the painting part will be done. Then just base them and voila, the first batch of 12 miniatures will be done and it will be more than I painted last year - I managed to get one Ork Kommando done, painted it "traditionally", that is basecoats, washes, highlights etc. I had a very, very long hiatus in painting (8 years, I believe), so it's basically like starting from scratch and relearning everything, especially brush control.
    Generally: I love that you're churning out these videos and I love that many of the models you paint are orcs :). I backed Modulorka on Kickstarter, so I have a bunch of different options to print later on and I will definitely slapchop the hell out of them!

  • @hughmac7423
    @hughmac7423 2 года назад

    I think they are both cool, I appreciate the slapchop method, and when I use it, I block in the main colours for the base coat, then dry brush to get the highlights, then speed or contrast paint. If it is a special model, I work on using washes and highlighting. I've been painting for 30+ years, I don't try to rush it, I take my time, I tend to be more like a 2 to 8 hour per model painter, the only time I try to be fast is for batch painting simple larger groups of basic models, then it is just to get painted models on the game table.

    I write this before i watch the video and i honestly like the 20 minutes MUCH more. First the green: Thats an Orruk green for me. The 2 hours green is way to dark and does not look "natural". 2nd is the other colours: the 20 minutes is mostly brownes in different shades, highlighted by some metal parts and ropes, which looks much more "rugged" and battletorn, also much more "natural". Everything fits to the other parts. On the 2 hours one, the colours are much to bright and dont fit together. Also the shades on the stomach muscles look overdone and weird to me.
    3rd: with the limited time for painting i personally have at hand, i love speed painting and the results. Only thing i like more on the 2 hours miniature is the base, but this could be done on the 20 minutes one in no time by a swipe of citadels contrast space wolves frey, which makes an amazing stone look in 2 seconds.
    Of course thats only my opinion, with no disrespect to the painter.

    I think it depends on what your objective is. Hobbying is an art and should take time to master, using speedpaints and washes as a tool is fine, but using them for the express purpose of bypassing the learning curve is pretty lame. Unless your only goal is to play the miniatures, I think using speed paints is just denying yourself an opportunity to learn to paint, besides- it's painfully obvious which model is speedpainted
