    Honestly, the way you painted the face on the 2nd mini is astounding. Making the inside of that collar really dark, it straight up feels like I'm looking at a extremely high-fidelity rendered illustration. Like 16:12 , that's ridiculous how much depth it has. Excellent stuff dude, would love to see a dedicated wet-blending video, even if Ive seen dozens of them already from others.

    Nice demonstration! This actually helps me a lot, since my painting look has never fallen into any category I've seen on line, but seeing these two made me realize mine is almost smack in the middle. I've played with a couple approaches, but I generally like the smoother, more uniform lightning and color of the non-traditional approach, but with a little more contrast to specific material differences, such as hard armor plate vs leather or metal equipment. This is just based on my own experiences being out in muddy, dusty combat environments and looking around, then imagining 'Okay, what if guys weren't wearing camo, but more vibrant colors? And then had all this dirt and dust everywhere and grime in all the cracks.' So you get spots that're sorta clean and vibrant compared to the surrounding dirt and dingy parts.
    Anyway, great video, as always. Love seeing your more practical approach to painting and.. well, GW.

    • @trovarion
      @trovarion  Год назад

      cool, thanks for sharing your story! Never worry if you "fit" into any category with painting. just always paint the way you enjoy and get the results you enjoy! It's your minis, your time spent, your hobby.

    • @stormycatmink
      @stormycatmink Год назад

      @@trovarion One thing I've found helpful about 'fit', however, is it makes it easier to narrow down my search if I want to improve something. I was never one to conform anyway, but I do like having guidelines and examples to start from. Seeing two styles tackle the same problem side by side is very helpful for those who want to tread their own ground and make their own style. They can pick a bit from each since it's easier to see what they have in common, and what they don't. Would be helpful to see more of that kind of thing. Maybe that's a recurring theme you could lean on if you need ideas at some point? Paint the same model in different styles and methods, side by side. Help people learn how to mix and match elements.

    Awesome video! I think I'll try the armour style of the first one on my Tau Kill Team, haven't painted any Tau before so I've been looking for some inspiration. Also don't want them to be too "clean" so your technique feels good.
    And also would really appreciate a wet blending video! I feel like I'm in a weird place with that technique, I know the basics and have dabbled around with it a bit but I feel that I'm not really progressing with it. Also haven't had the courage to rely on it for painting anything other than single minis that are not part of anything larger. I don't know if other painters have similar experiences but I usually can improve with a new method just by fooling around and bravely trying different things but wet blending seems to be my Achilles' heel.

    The black background really makes a big difference. Would've been interesting when they had shown all the other entries with a background of their choice.

    With the airbrush primers, you absolutely have to wait 24 hours for the primer to cure before painting and (from what I've found at least) avoid using flow improver to help it leave the airbrush. It seems to f with the curing process and causes it to peel off very easily. The vallejo primers work well to keep crisp details though they're complicated to use and if you spray a batch of minis incorrectly you have to clean them up and start all over again.
    They ruin the environment and make neighbours hate you but stick to the rattle cans if you want to get stuff done quickly, or spray the mini really quickly and then apply the airbrush primer to the areas that were missed by the rattle cans. Prolly use a brush though to choose where the primer goes.

    It’s insane you were able to get the second space dwarf done in about 2 and half hours. Great video!

    I never really picked up on it before, but for a painting job for an army, requiring to be reliant upon lighting to showcase it correctly…that’s food for thought between wanting to paint, with multiple techniques. Against painting for an army, on table top without the lighting Etc.
    Much appreciated.

    I was loving the first one up until you did the comparison at 17:55 and wow... I think i'm gonna have to paint my new army in the 2nd style, since I want a much colder vibe haha. I love the armour on the first one but wow I'm just in love with the second. Especially the head, looks so good.

    A wet blending video would be great. It's a technique i struggle with and I haven't been able to click with other tutorials.
    Theres something about the Votann that really shine with harsh shadow contrast. I keep thinking about the Apollo moon landing videos, the light vs shadow is really stark from the lack of an atmosphere diffusing the light. It really highlights the Nasa punk designs elements in the Votunn. The second approach combined with Durgins lunar bases is what I hope to do eventually

    I appreciate both versions but my ideal would be a mix of both with overhead lightsource. Yes I would like a wet blending video. The face reminds me of Paul Teutul Sr. from the Orange County Choppers TV series. It's close enough they should pay him royalties for using his likeness !!!
