Hey guys! Long time watcher and lurker, first time commenter, just wanted to say that having the color you're using in the moment pop up on the left hand side of the screen while painting is fantastic. Hope you can continue that in other painting segments in the future
love this so much. actual good information packaged in a format not targeted at absolute beginners while still being useful for beginners (imo). with not being targeted at absolute beginners I mean not adding the usual "I add two thin coats of paint to give the mini a consistent coverage" fluff.
Maybe it's just me, but I love Lukas vieos and Emil videos more than Lukas+Emil videos, when it's just one of the guys at a time it feels like they get to bring out their personality more thoroughly.
So yeah the paiting quality is great, but I was actually more impressed by all the thinking that went into the highlights, color choice, color position etc, it was really cool to get an insight into it
Great simple guide Lucas! Only thing to really call out is how much practice is needed to get the brush control you talk about, and how much practice it takes to place the highlights convincingly. They aren't *difficult* skills to develop, but they do take time to develop.
This is why we all need to paint more mini's! or was that another youtuber 🙂 But its true the more we all paint the better we get, even if we don't think so ourselves, we are always our harshest critics.
This video convinced me to get the Skaven half of the Skaventide box. I was kind of unsure since I don't really know anyone who plays AoS, but I thought, might as well make it an art project then!
My favourite type of videos that you guys do, your style has completely changed my approach and made me a better painter. Appreciate you guys, keep the videos coming.
I ordered the paint set last week, then randomly this Skaventide set popped up in a local auction, and I won it all in $95. Now, if Harder & Steenbeck would just ship my paints.
Fellas. Proper painting videos two weeks in a row. You are spoiling us. More please. I personally prefer blending but I paint for display not armies and I love the Squidmar approach for bold contrast. The punchy colours, bold contrast and value jumps certainly grab attention (especially from a distance). No one way of painting is right. (Now get blending 😉)
I've love to see you try your hands at some Lamenters. I've literally never seen a single photo or video of a miniature painted in their chapter colors where the checkerboard and logo on their shoulder isn't a wonky mess.
Great video. I’m excited to start my Skaven army too. What about a video on getting all those clan rats done - getting a balance between quality and speed? Maybe how to use an airbrush effectively when army painting?
Thanks for the great video! It has helped me improve my own painting. I noticed when you placed the highlights (at the right locations) that you didn’t just cover the whole spot, but instead painted some “brush strokes patterns”. This made the highlights not only more noticeable, but interesting to look at, like some texture. Could you perhaps in one of your future videos go into more detail about this and explain when to use what brush strokes? Thanks a bunch!
Really enjoyed this Lukas. You guys are refreshing when it comes to painting as even I feel I could follow what you are doing!!! Great video with some fun moments which helps. You guys are possibly my favourite figure painters with Ninjon a close second.👍👍😉
So I'm getting ready to paint my space marine homebrew chapter and a majority of their armor will be a bone color similar to deathwing armor. Every tutorial I've found uses washes and I've tried them but there is just so little control! Would love to see you guys tackle deathwing or bone armor on space marines using this contrasting highlights approach. I'm considering basecoating with a dark brown and then working up the highlights like you talked about here but it can be really tough on the often smooth featureless surface of space marine armor.
First and most importantly: Lukas I love your unique style! Second: showing the used paints is a huge improvement for nOObs like me! Another great video from the squidmar team. I’m not sure if the community agrees, but I’d love to see a video introducing the whole squidmar team.
Along with all the Warhammer stuff, it would be cool to do paint and showcase of 3D printable collections. Ideally ones that don't infringe on copyright and have their own unique style. Or just other Company products in general.
Great painting as always!, Also I hope the new models that come after this boxset for both the Stormcast and Skaven arn't just more boring hero's, and are monsters, dragons, battline units, and elite units like the newer giant-er rat ogre thing (can't remember the name), im already disappointed we got yet another hero revealed (the one with wings), like Gw just give us some dracontith battline units like Tempesters but have wings and no riders and come as a unit of 3!!!!! THAT WOULD BE AWESOME, MORE DRACONITH UNITS!!!
My eyes are hyper cooked so I will just paint bravely and put my favorite colors next to each other and see what it looks like thank you Squidmar team!
As always another great video. Lukas, you nailed it. I’m excited for this set and look forward to seeing you guys paint more of it. As for the how to…..I tried to do more advanced techniques before I got good at the basics. Walk before I run is hard for me to do. I want to be that good now 😂
Next time you do this, can you include how the hell you're meant to paint the underside of a based model? Makes me feel like a idiot every time I paint yet noone ever talks about it haha
If you're having trouble painting a based model, it may be worth trying to paint it before basing. Easier for some stuff than others, but it does mean you get easy access to everything
It's always interesting what parts of the hobby various people like and dislike, and how much it varies. Lucas should do some kind of ent or something so he can actually put grass tufts all over it.
not a criticism, just a thought: i think maybe going for a darker grey fur tone and using the texture technique to add aging grey hairs in certain areas could've given an interesting detail of how old and battled the rat is.
This is one of the best painting guides I've seen. I do enjoy the more opinionated Squidmar content too and the amazing results that produces, but I want my own minis to look "home amazing" (without spending days on it) as opposed to "competition amazing". I think there's a big gap in the content market for that stuff (i.e. "home amazing", which is better than "table ready" and worse than "competition amazing", the latter two being the majority of content that I see)
I like the nonchalance of the tone, despite the super clear tutorial. Well done, Mr. Lukas, well done. How many cookies for this work, by the way? Chocolate cookies, I hope.

Okay got it:
Step 1: Draw 2 circles
Step 2: Draw the rest of the owl
I understood that reference!
Easy peasy. Especially when thge owl looks back at you with the glowing eyes

Painting the best faction in all of Age of Sigmar yes, yes!
I would even say the best faction from all warhammer in general including 40k
Yes yes agree agree

Absolutely love that you clearly showed the paints used, thank you.
Congratulations on your upcoming paint line. A very nice pat on the back. You guys deserve it. Your opinion means a lot to us.
The grass tufts bit 😂😂😂😂
This is probably my favorite piece of content y'all have done so far.
"Automagically" 😁 that's gonna be my new fav word!
love this so much. actual good information packaged in a format not targeted at absolute beginners while still being useful for beginners (imo).
with not being targeted at absolute beginners I mean not adding the usual "I add two thin coats of paint to give the mini a consistent coverage" fluff.
Even with those drastic highlights, it's still very smooth. How?!?!?!
Maybe it's just me, but I love Lukas vieos and Emil videos more than Lukas+Emil videos, when it's just one of the guys at a time it feels like they get to bring out their personality more thoroughly.
That's actually a sharp buut clever comment!
I like the way they bounce off each other when they’re in videos together! They’ve got great banter.
And it’s a lot less RUclips zoomer memes/cuts in the solo videos
Closer to Emils original videos!
I think there great together and apart
So yeah the paiting quality is great, but I was actually more impressed by all the thinking that went into the highlights, color choice, color position etc, it was really cool to get an insight into it
Well done Lucas. One thing I liked about this video is that you've shown every color you used in each step. It's something easy to follow for us.

I love all your videos but this one is My favourite video so far because it was very technical and had some real substance to it.
Excellent change up on the video style
Lots of hints of upcoming releases !!
I'd love to see Lukas do a plague marine I find the details can be overloading to a painter and be nice to see his approach for a newbie 🤘
Great tutorial . The " Don't Blend " is a great advice.
Goes without saying, you make painting look easy! Very skilled 😊
I really like Luka's painting tutorial
Gorgeous work, Lucas! Always love your fantastic use of contrast to make a mini shine
This is superb. Skaven have always been my favorite, and this is just a wonderful thing to see. Love it love it love it!
One of the best "how to paint" videos I've seen
Great paintjob, the model really works well with your painting style.
Really loving these more painting focused videos.

Lukas! You are the man! Another fantastic paint job and awesome video. Thank you both for all the inspiration you provide!
Awesome work Lukas. I love your style of painting!

Love how you split screen the sponsor and content. I watched thru that instead of skipping forward.
Love that you guys have which paints were used in the corner

That blending thip might be the best painting advice that I've ever heard
Next time you do this, can you include how the hell you're meant to paint the underside of a based model? Makes me feel like a idiot every time I paint yet noone ever talks about it haha
Honest answer? Either carefully, or don't. Just paint the underside enough that nobody bothers to look closely at it.
If you're having trouble painting a based model, it may be worth trying to paint it before basing. Easier for some stuff than others, but it does mean you get easy access to everything
If you don't paint the underside, it just looks like a shadow.
Simply love your videos ❤🎉 thank you both for making this so accessible 😊
Amazing work, love the colours! Do you have a video, or more pics of your Skittershank's Clawpack?

skaven and stormcast all in one. my favorite armies! For the Great Horned Sigmar YeS yeS! wait. thats not right.
