    Unrelated to the painting other than you mentioned beavers but one of my favorite facts in nature is about beaver teeth. The reason why they look so reddish brown is not because they are dirty. Instead they get that color because of the very high iron content in the teeth. That is also why they are so strong. Anyway! Great video! Really like this scheme for clan rats!

    I was really excited for my rat army to get started, but I was worried about painting them honestly. Thanks so much for this video, it gave me the confidence to approach my skaven with pure excitement instead of a little dread. I have two questions if you don't mind answering:
    1) Do you have any tips on how to enhance a paintjob like this on more important models like the clawlord? Besides the obvious answer of doing manual volumetric highlights with say a glaze of a base paint of the appropriate color in the right places.
    2) Do you have any yellow contrast/speedpaint recommendations for a color with similar texture to your green cloak, but of course with a yellow color?
    Thanks a ton!

    • @DarcyBonoCreations
      @DarcyBonoCreations  5 месяцев назад

      I've used Ratling Grime (a greyish brown) Basilicanum Grey (a brownish Grey) and if you want a cooler Grey, mix in a little Apothrcary White into the Basilicanum Grey. You can also thin them to varying degrees for variety as the my transparent they are, the lighter they'll look. Finally you can try putting them over light grey or ivory base coats for even more variation as the former will make the subsequent layers darker and the latter will make them warmer (the browns will be more brown).

      Thank you! I'm mainly sticking with warm greens for mine so I'd probably do Militarum Green and mainly adding variation with color placement. But that being said Stahly has a chart of all the speed paints on the market that I use all the time for color selection. • @DarcyBonoCreations

      I plan on doing a dark bronze (thinned Wyldwood Brown over Leadbelcher, sparingly edge highlighted w/ Runelord Brass). If you're painting the fur black or dark grey like this, I'd stick with warmer colors like brass and bronze since you've already got a lot of neutral tones between the grungy fabric, black fabric and dark fur.

  • @johnnoble6989
    @johnnoble6989 6 месяцев назад

    Fantastic tutorial! I'm thinking of doing something very similar for the fur and black, but swapping the green for an orange. Do you have any tips for making sure the other details of the model stand out from the orange?

    • @DarcyBonoCreations
      @DarcyBonoCreations  6 месяцев назад

      Oooo nice! I'd go with Gor Grunta Fur for a burnt orange or possibly mix in a little of that into Gryph Hound Orange for a bit more vibrant orange. To make the other details stand out, just avoid warm saturated colors like browns. So for the fur, black and charcoal. For the metal pale browns are fine, like Ratling Grime over silver would work.

    • @DarcyBonoCreations

      Here's a concise video from the GW team that explains mediums: ruclips.net/video/2w-WFgemGlw/видео.htmlsi=Z02UhBERFkIfchC9
      It's just the solution that the pigment of the paint floats. By adding more of it to the paint, you make it more transparent and it flows more easily. Also, I'm sorry but I don't understand your second question. "What would I add to it if you needed to?" If I needed to what?

    • @illumin8-r

      @@DarcyBonoCreations thank you! you said in the beginning of the video that one could add "contrast medium" to the black templar paint if needed, but that you didn't in the video. but now that i understand what contrast medium is, i see that my question can be a bit confusing. i thought contrast medium was something entirely separate from the contrast paint, but i know now that it's just the solution that is mixed in together with the contrast paint. idk if i'm making sense lol

    models

    • @DarcyBonoCreations
      @DarcyBonoCreations  6 месяцев назад

      Both humidity, wind and distance from the model can cause speckles. I'll generally prime with the garage door up so a breeze isn't drying the primer before it reaches the model but I'm not spraying inside. Same goes for if you're spraying too far away; the paint droplets dry before reaching the model. Check out the Citadel Colour app, it's free and they have a quick video on a few best practices for spray priming.

  • @wingthor-r9o
    @wingthor-r9o 6 месяцев назад

    I used grey seer primer and the black templar straight from the pot, but the robes look a lot darker than yours, which have that slightly gray/blue tint. I thought I was being fairly conservative with it though. Any tips there?

    • @DarcyBonoCreations
      @DarcyBonoCreations  6 месяцев назад

      You can try applying a splotch and then immediately rinsing your brush, and smoothing the paint with your damp brush. That way paint isn't continually be deposited onto the model, you're just spreading out, making a thinner/more transparent layer. But in all honesty, just being even more conservative applying the Black Templar, you should notice it become lighter. The thinner the layer of paint, the more the light under layer will show through and the lighter the black will look.

  • @Christ9606
    @Christ9606 4 месяца назад

    I have painted 5 minis so far in this style and I love the colour scheme but I can't seem to get the black to look similar. I have been base painting them with the grey seer rather than coating them with a spray? Is that method such a big difference for the painting? I am very new to this.

    • @DarcyBonoCreations
      @DarcyBonoCreations  4 месяца назад

      Just to clarify, are you priming your miniatures first? Or are you just base coating Grey Seer over bare plastic? That can make a difference, but to better answer the question I'll need to know how your black looks differently?

    • @Christ9606
      @Christ9606 4 месяца назад

      @@DarcyBonoCreations I have been giving it multiple coats of base paint which was shown in a tutorial video of warhammer painting. It looks either very thick black or shows grey through the paint. But I can almost guess it has to do with the priming, if I understand correctly the priming is to use a spray first?

    When I first got into painting regularly I bought a set of the 1.0 speedpaints and have been fighting with them ever since. Because of this I’ve mostly written of speed/contrast paints but your stuff makes me want to invest in some Contrast paints and give it anuvva go.

      @DarcyBonoCreations  6 месяцев назад +1

      Very glad to hear it! Honestly I did not like the first version of Speed Paints at all. I found them way too runny and uncontrollable (plus the reactivation issue). The new ones are better as far as those issues though.

    • @DarcyBonoCreations
      @DarcyBonoCreations  6 месяцев назад +1

      Balthasar Gold is kinda a dark copper and you need to work with light colored paints when working with Contrast Paints. If you're using Balthasar Gold you could shade it with something like Ratling Grime, but I'd probably edge highlight it back up again because it's already pretty dark. Basically it won't look similar to the color in the video.

    Is there another option for the antimatter black? I can’t get that in Canada? Black Templar?

    • @DarcyBonoCreations
      @DarcyBonoCreations  6 месяцев назад

      Any acrylic black paint will work (i.e Abaddon Black), you just want a fully black surface. Don't use Black Templar though; it's a semi transparent so isn't going to give a fully black surface without multiple coats.

    • @DarcyBonoCreations

      Yes this will work with slapchop, it just won't be as vibrant due to the initial darker underlayer.

      @@DarcyBonoCreationsso black would ruin the vibrant colors, but how about a brown and grey slapchop?

    • @DarcyBonoCreations
      @DarcyBonoCreations  16 дней назад

      Brown is gonna make your greens look more olive in the shadows and grey is gonna give you slightly lighter shadows than with black. Honestly as long as you heavily drybrush the white over top, your under shade won't really ruin anything unless you're painting something like Yellow over a black under shade.

    Do you have any experience with vallejo glaze medium instead of lanhmian medium?

    • @DarcyBonoCreations
      @DarcyBonoCreations  12 дней назад +1

      Yep! Now this was before they reformulated this past year, but I found it to be closer to Contrast Medium. It didn't feel like it flows as much.

    • @FrankieTGI
      @FrankieTGI 12 дней назад

      @ they reformulated lahmian medium? So you would stick to lahmian still right?

    • @DarcyBonoCreations
      @DarcyBonoCreations  12 дней назад

      Sorry, I was referring to the Vallejo Glaze medium. Vallejo did a refresh on all of their paints (game, model and mecha) so I haven't tried the new version of the glaze yet. As a rule glaze mediums tend not to flow as much as thinner mediums so I would recommend Lahmian Medium since you're trying to get the paint to spread out.

    How do you mix 1drop with 2drops with Citadels stupid pots?

    • @DarcyBonoCreations
      @DarcyBonoCreations  3 дня назад

      By dumping them into dropper bottles like these (www.amazon.com/Adecco-LLC-Plastic-Squeezable-Childproof/dp/B01F73QCJM/). You also don't HAVE to be exact, the ratios are just there as a guide. You can take a dollop of paint on your brush, put it on the palette and then mix 2 dollops of a different paint and still achieve a similar color.
