My somewhat high level speed paint for Hallowed Knights. It's not all that fast, but I'm a slow painter, and this was done really quick for me. Prime or base coat the darkest blue you can get. I liked Golden SoFlat Paynes Gray Zenithal drybrush with a gunmetal, or a steel paint mixed with your dark dark blue. Optional: Recess shade. I let things take an extra day so I could gloss varnish, oil wash, matte varnish here. Note: This is the last time you can do an all over varnish. I painted the cloaks on my Vanquishers and Questors here, but seeing the barely done armor at this stage was bad for my motivation, and I'd actually do it later and brush on a varnish. Zenithal drybrush steel then silver, with each covering less. Glaze purple into the less reflective parts you want metallic blue, and either red or brown into the parts you want gold. Optional: paint final light catches with the brightest silver you have normally. Vallejo Metal Color Chrome is great here. Paint the gold parts with a translucent yellow, and the blue parts with a translucent blue. Contrast paint is good here, but will make things more matte. I went with FW Artist's Ink Yellow, with a tiny bit of orange added for the gold, and for the blue, I used Golden Fluid Artist Acrylic Phthalo Blue. Finish any detail and done.
My army painting strategy has always been this: Troops get a very basic paint job that's good when viewed from standing above the table. Special units get a good paint job with some flash and impressiveness. Characters get Attention. I like this philosophy, as it draws the eyes to the cooler units in my army and makes them stand out more on the table. It would also mean you'd pay less attention to that large block of marauders I'm about to roll your flank with.
Most hobbyist videos are from a dude basically screaming/talking super fast the entire time. Yours are relaxing, I actually like your videos! Got a nice relaxing voice lmao
The more games of Warhammer I play, the more I realize this is the way to go. I rarely pay attention to someone’s army other than “Oh nice colors! let’s play”. Great ideas here Adam 👍
Great video, I've just started the hobby and just painted my 1st 3 Skaven models from the Skaventide box. The different tones and shades of green cloth is a really good idea I'll be using for mine.
Brown and green combo is amazing- I played around with it a couple of years ago and it inspired me to paint an entire Tyranid army with green carapace and brown flesh. I'm digging the Skaven love!
Thanks Uncle Adam its always nice to get tutorials from you. Most videos blitz through the material so quickly its hard to keep up or even see what they are doing. Also shout out Sonic Sledgehammers Sledge Sauce/Sonic Tonic/Marine Juice/whatever name it ends up with, that stuff is amazing, especially when you start trying other mixes of different washes instead of light tone/reikland fleshshade.
I'm a mini junkie who has thousands of grey minis waiting to paint. I've never bought any of the Warhammer boxes of any kind. I'm really intrigued by this one cause the Skaven look amazing. I'm so tempted to drop $200+ on another big box of grey shame lol
Ok, SO, I mixed up my own "juice" not having ever heard of this concept before. Been using it for about a year now and it's crazy how it works. Crazy to figure out this is a thing better painters figured out and were using not just a hack idea i had that seemed to work out.
I like this so much! I don't play Stormcast, but I'm thinking of doing a silver with a turbo dork or speed paint for greenish armor in my Drukhari Kill Team. I think that may be similar to a gold Stormcast method. Great tips. Thank you!
Thank you VERY much for this! I'll definitely be referencing this when I get around to painting all 80 of my Clanrats.(I may have bought a split of the Skaven half from a friend to add to my own launch box collection)
I've been rewatching your streams on twitch, Adam and been in love with the easy vibrant green you came up with. Great looking rats! I really wished to point that out in the chat only to realise it wasnt live 😅 Really like how you play with so many different speedpaint color tones to achieve nice and easy results.
Pleasure seeing you at Nova even though it was only for a few seconds. I'm finally starting an AoS army with the skaventides I got at Nova and I may finally jump into the speedpaints for them.
I've always liked the grim nature of Skaven, they're the reason I'm seriously contemplating Skaventide tomorrow I can't believe those guys took you 3ish hours, that quality would take me a whole day
I love seeing the Clanrats get some love. I'm painting up my Flesh Eater spearhead currently, so my Cryptguard are getting a pretty similar, quick and dirty treatment.
Those Skaven are a big improvement over the prior clanrats! Wow, I'm tempted. Nice step-by-step for speedpainting them. I might use this on my unpainted clanrats...
Thanks for the Grim Black precoat for metallics hint! I have been wondering how to perk up my metallic speed paint looks. This was a GREAT episode...fun to watch how YOU approach a small warband paint job. I have "sticks" (for "Paint Sticks") of fighters for Frostgrave that I printed, zenathaled, waiting for speed paint. Watching you do this has inspired me to grab another stick and get it painted.
Definitely do a storm cast video. I have some original 90’s Skaven I’ve painted very tempting to get some more and the big box sets are the most cost effective why to buy
Yes sir I think doing a speed paint tutorial for the storm cast models would be awesome .......I'm not into age of sigmar but having any painting tutorial helps me out immensely ........great video sir
I'm 3/20 of the old version clanrats. But slowly painting by hand is what got me into Warhammer in the first place, so I'm in no rush. Some of these old rat sculpts though.. oof I also need all my ratboys to have unique fur colours and patterns
Those starter boxes have come with so many clan rats I still have some unpainted from an old world starter set from over a decade ago. It would be cool if I painted some rats with speed paints like these and have them side by side with some decade old paint styles.
I'd like to see your take on Stormcast painting, and a few more tutorials in general. But not exclusively tutorials. Just keep being you and we'll watch. 😁
Looks like a fun set & hopefully I can get one eventually. Lots of fun tips in here for painting them. I think for the eyes I might have a simple idea with my 40k Orks I found just a simple wooden toothpick, dip in paint to get the eyes quick with a little glow to it. Athough reading the video title too fast had me reading it as 'paint skaventide clean rats fast' to be rather amusing mental image of them getting painted in a very anti-grimdark color scheme.
Speed painting stormcast feels like it will boil down to apply speed paint metallic from Army painter, profit Not complaining I love the metallic speedpaints and just need to wait for them to come in stock with my local before I can pick up more 😂
First, those clan rats 🐀 look really good. One day I too will find my purpose and rhythm in miniature painting. Second, glad you did not film the beginning of this project, I seem to always over film things and have 3 hours of video to sort through to make a 15 minute video and of course I want over an hour of footage to upload and nobody would watch it. Great video sir, have a great weekend. You loved going to Kinkos in the day, a good movie to watch on Tubi is (Kopy Kings) if you need to relax for 90 mins and laugh.
I'm very very slowly crawling my way to the point of being able to play Skaven in 4th and have taken the idea of just getting any rat man models from any distributor I like to make them all look actually different. Generally kind of intimidated by modern GW designs just because every model is so complex so I lack any of the actual new Skaven, but do have a bunch of Oldhammer Skaven to let them keep doing their little chaotic things among the mortal realms. That said I really liked your finished results so I might try picking up some of the paints listed and try following your technique for the Clan Skyre rats
Thank you for the video. One thing I’m curious about- when do you varnish? I do this after all non metallic paints are done. Doing the metallic after the varnish. I’m curious as to your method. Thanks for another cool video to start the weekend

Yes, Speed Gold please. I find that really is very time consuming. And although the speed metallic golds cover extremely well, they don’t provide that much contrast (except maybe hoard bronze)
"I could probably get these done in two hours" Me looking at the 10 model kit bashed scout marine kill team I've been working on and thinking how much time I've spent on them this week alone .😅 But this is also my first squad like this and I think I have like...10 colors on a single model? Great video! Love how the models came out!
A lot of models you say, I've got to do the rats and my buddy is doing the storm cast. But. This is NOT that many models because I collect Tyranids, and their last combat patrol had 36 gaunts, a Tyrant and 3 warriors. Edit. I didn't realise there were 40 clanrats as well as ten other things. Lol

@@tabletopminions I mean a recipe made from products available in the new fanatic line. I have considered trying the new dark skin tone with some speedpaint medium as it is quite dark but with a splash of red/purple somewhat similar to the original recipe. Would love to know your ideas 👍
That's one I might be able to field. ;D You'll actually get a *very* similar result to the Marine Juice mix by mixing Speedpaint Medium and Strong Skin Tone 1:1. It's a little more brown and not quite as warm, so a drop or two of either a red or even another flesh tone might help, but the application and way it adheres is broadly similar.
