    I'm preparing to finish painting my warhammer armies and miniatures and wanted to test out how big a difference is there between painting a miniature in 10 minutes, 1 hour and 3 hours! Which one will give me most bang for buck and which one will end up looking the best?

    Fun fact: the loin cloth is actually a goblin that has been mutilated. That's why you see the complete head still there, and behind the back of the troggoth you see he's tied together with his arms and legs. I painted my goblins' robes a specific purple theme so I painted the goblin around the waist of the troggoth the same theme as well.

    Would love to see a similar video, but in reverse. Start with spending the full "try-hard" time on the first mini, and then see how far you can strip it down as you have less time for each subsequent attempt.

      This is a neat idea because I think it's how a lot of people paint squads. You kind know the look you want, you mess with one to figure out how to get the look, then the reat are quicker.

  • @atin8996
    @atin8996 2 года назад +24

    It would be awesome if you did a video on doing 3 or 4 mini's with a more reasonable 10-15 min each and see how you improve over the 4 models with such a short time frame.

    • @therealcrisis8439
      @therealcrisis8439 Год назад +2

      I second this! While it is nice to see what can be done in a longer timeframe, applying a paintjob such as this to 30, 60 or even 100+ miniatures (which isn't even that much for armies such as Tyranids or Orks) just isn't feasible if you want to be done with it in your own lifetime.

      *_100minis, 1h a day, for 30days._*
      *_Or, 200 or 300, 1h a day for 30days._*
      *_This is what I prefer, I'm addicted to the feeling of suddenly having 100, 200 or 300 fully painted minis ready; 30 days later._*
      *_Now, granted, some minis are done before the rest, a general gets more TLC, but overall the entire group ends up looking so much better than just doing 10 and 10 minis this way._*
      *_What is comes down to really is 1h a day for 30days is 30h of painting a month, instead of a few 2-3h sessions here, a single 7h session there, and a couple of 1h over here...._*

    I don't know if anyone else said this in a previous comment or not, but when all the models are shown together the 3 hour model somewhat elevates the 10 minute. It sort of looks like the 10 minute model is a subordinate of the 3 hour. Like a general standing next to a private.

  • @Wildonion1
    @Wildonion1 2 года назад +2

    Damned fine work! The ten minute guy really needed a blue-gray for the leather portions to pop against the skin, which I think would have helped elevate it, but that one hour model feels like such a good result-to-time product.

  • @guleri
    @guleri 2 года назад +1

    I think both the 1 hour and 3 hour paintjob looks great. The 10 minute looks good for a quick paintjob, but I think I would go for maybe 1 hour for regular minis and 3 for more of the "character" figures. Hope to see more of this great army, as what we saw when you were at the shelf looked very impressive.

  • @Exidous96
    @Exidous96 2 года назад

    I really enjoy people's "1 hr paint job" and it's funny how frequently people like that one the most given what I've seen other people post. I suspect it's bc talented painters know how to focus exclusively on the most critical parts of their 1hr job, the parts that will be most noticed and appreciated. Sure the 3 hr one is clearly more technically completed, but the 1 hr really focused on the highpoints that we notice. Great video and minis!

    You need to do a video with ten minute increments, so new painters can measure our progress in squidmars. That is, from this video, I would estimate that I am an 80 minute suidmar painter. Now, it may take four hours to achieve that quality, but after four hours I can achieve the same quality as Squidmar would in 80 minutes. When mini painters meet, we would state our squidmar numbers. Respect from an 80 squidmar painter

    I think it's good that this video brought up the fact that if you want better results you need to spend some time with your miniatures and i can understand somewhat why you probably need to rush things if like certain tournaments require you to have a painted army in order to play, but otherwise i don't understand why some are so hellbent on the principle that you should have pro level results in 5min or else it's a waste of time? I mean this is supposed to be your hobby so relax, enjoy it, take the time that you need and have fun and i would also say that don't compare your results with other painters that you see on the tube, there is only one person that you should compare to and that's yourself from yesterday.

And the 3 hour one is the most coordinated and intelligent, with the most gear. I think it gives them a good visual hierarchy.

    In some ways I prefer the 10 minute one. Sometimes simplicity works.

    Feels like somewhere between 10min - 1hr is good for tabletop standard. 10 min for fodder and closer to an hour for the heroes, anything more seems kinda pointless unless you're going for a competition or just really enjoy painting.

    You should make a new video with five to ten miniatures and do em from 1-3 hrs I would like to see those .

      If you can handle an airbrush well, you can do in 10 minutes what normally would take 8 hours. So, practice more and watch NJM for tips and tricks. Also, oil paints can also save loads of time.

    I got to say I'm jealous that you have Time to do this for a living. I got to bust my ass to live and the couple hours a week I get to paint my figures is precious. 4 kids makes little time. Anyway thanks for the videos, I get alot of ideas and skill development from them

      Just a jealous you are, I'm thankful. And it's thanks to people like you watching it's possible:) i know the struggle though, i have 3 kids myself and know how little time i have outside work to paint and play.

    Adding basing after your painting time really distorts this as effective basing makes a big difference to the look of the model.
    The reality is you could probably get away with 30 minute models without a problem if you got the order of painting down a bit tighter rather than just having a go in that time frame. Then spend your 3 hours on your hero models to make them pop out from the rest of the models.

    Love the fact that he can paint a model in 10 minutes and make it still look better then if I spent 5 hours painting
