I love how DSP says that he probably only has a week left of Elden Ring, but he literally just got to the ultra late game where the game spikes in difficulty. I was overleveled in my playthrough from exploring and grinding for fun and pretty much one shot every boss, give or take a couple extra tries here and there; but after God Skin duo each boss took me 2+ hours to beat. Yeah, I feel he's gonna be playing the game for 2 or 3+ weeks, especially if he keeps only playing it 2 to 3 times a week.

Greed is massively strong.

I find the "locked in animations" argument so stupid when complaining about failing in From Software games. Sure, characters usually commit to one animation once the input is made, but it is usually ONE attack that doesn't last long. I played FF7 Remake for the past few weeks... Now that is commiting to animations (at least, when it comes to dodging or blocking, since you can't do either if you input any other action beforehand). Some attacks literally leave you stuck until the attack is over, and then you can roll, like the Strong Attacks from Punisher Mode. Attacks like Tempest require a lot of time to charge and release, and in some battles, spamming it is horrible. Casting magic literally has you standing still until the magic is fully casted or you get interrupted. You cannot even turn the character to face the enemy. Monster Hunter, I heard, has the same issue, which actually makes combat a lot more tactical, since spamming stuff can cause you to be punished easily. From Software games at least have pretty good mobility when it comes to the combat. Just one short animation and now you can dodge easily one attack, punish, dodge another, and punish, usually without worrying about being punished yourself, if you make it right. That's not the case on FF7R at least. If you don't interrupt the enemy, you best be ready to block or dodge after just approaching the enemy. At least, the damage in that game is... well, much lower, so you can tank a lot more things (except in Hard Mode) without dying. For me, commiting to animations in games like Elden Ring is not a big issue due to the speed of this game. It's not super fast paced like DMC or Bayonetta. Enemies commit to their animations too, so once you learn what they will do, it is all a matter of timing and punishing. The faster your attack (as in, the one with the shortest animation), the more consistent it can damage an enemy. The more damage it does, the faster it can defeat an enemy. But none of that matters if you braindead it like DSP here. Elden Ring and most of FromSoftware games have REACTIVE Combat. You don't chase enemies and initiate your attacks first. You react to their patterns and punish them when they leave an opening. Key phrase being, when they leave an opening. Malenia has very short openings, which DSP didn't consider. Most of her battle consists on avoiding her attacks and waiting for a good opening, which is a testament to patience. Only non-From Software game that made me be extremely patient was Hollow Knight, and mostly on Absolute Radiance. I know I rambled too much, so I'll leave it at that.
Doesn't need to, he's like Neo in the matrix, able to see the hit/hurt boxes floating in the source code with the naked eye, it's the bugged puzzle boss mechanics that are all messed up, lazy devs. #dideverythingright
It always amazes me how silent he is during this. He's not talking himself through what he needs to do, what attacks he can punish and so on. He has some fighting game knowledge but I, nor he, can reliably tell you what it is.
I like how he’s talking about her “high poise” like she’s not easy to stagger. From threw us a bone in this boss fight with her incredibly low poise. So that it’s fair in SOME regard.
Reminds me of that video of a guy speedrunning her fight (just her fight) in under a minute by running a high poise damage polearm (I think Commander's Standard) and just constantly poking her to stagger whenever she does a side dodge.
Without any guides, I ended up using my balsphemous blade on her because it was my main weapon, and you can lock her in to a perma-stagger with the fire wave L2 attack.
@@wombatgirl997 I was powerstancing the bloodhound’s fang and an omen cleaver. Everything I did staggered her. It was a hard battle and took me a little bit and a good 50-60 deaths but I finally got her

Trying to brute force Malenia with zero strategy, pattern recognition, situational awareness, or adaptive decision making (jump attacks only). Hmm ... It's a testament to how over-leveled he is that he can get past phase 1 playing like this.
@@RenanRufinoTrue Believe it or not he is actually not over-leveled. Believe it or not 150 is the level you can end up being when you reach Malenia if you have explored everything else except Farum Azula. He survives that cause he has 60 vigor and heavy armor. His build is OP but he is not overleveled. If he was overleveled he would have killed the boss in 3-4 hits face tanking her. Which he does try doing.
@@costelcosmincazan2321 Nah, he's a bit overleveled. You're kinda sorta intended to have the game wrapped up by LV 120ish. Balance-wise, you aren't expected to do everything in the game and constantly level up the entire time. He isn't quite as overleveled as he was for, say, most of his first Bloodborne playthrough where he could legit just facetank most bosses, but an extra 10-20 levels in VIG makes a pretty huge difference. And, yeah, he clearly copied the power stanced JR2 spam build from someone else, as it's quite over-tuned, but you aren't supposed to just spam nothing but jump attacks in every situation even if that's the main feature.
@@costelcosmincazan2321 Maybe was because i was underleveled when i fought her the first time but i never survive her waterfowl. Finished the game in around level 110 including Malenia at the end game, Phil would get destroyed at that level.
Listening to a 40 year old man streaming a videogame, referencing his own character in the third person is a mix of amusing and sad. He's saying 'He's moving here, he's jumping there' as If it isn't his own inputs.
Its one of those funny defense mechanisms he has. He will always blame mistakes on the character while crediting successes to himself. Especially noticeable when he plays a Mario platformer or something.
He’s so braindead.. how many times must Melania do her spark combo before he realises you roll into that attack and not backwards as you’ll always get caught by the fourth attack otherwise. Melania took me a few times to solo but her punishment of the snortmeister makes her one of my favourite bosses of the game. So good to see his halberd jumping L1 / R2 cheese finally being punished. 🎉🎉🎉
Its pretty telling that after getting to the hardest endgame boss Phil can't fathom that jump attacks do not track in mid air to follow the target and leave you open when you commit to them.
I know there are items that can enhance jump attacks as well as certain weapons, yet Phil clearly demonstrates the flaws in using this cheese method. He leaves himself wide the heck open for anyone to get a good hit in, and it takes a while for him to start dodging after he uses it. Not to mention the ridiculous amount of stamina drain from repeatedly using the move. And with a boss like Melania, whose poise is seemingly determined by RNG, you can already see why this boss will shake the foundations of the Pigroach’s strategy. For this boss especially, timing is everything.
Relying on jump attack spam is pretty stupid, especially given the amount of powerful ashes of war that the game gives you. Also, the boss gets hyperarmor during certain moves to force players to be more tactical with their attacks and to punish idiots like Phil for using greedy, braindead strategies.
Been fighting her since before the first update- here's the gist. Basically, she has super armor ONLY when using a move after her arm sparks (basically her special attacks) or when she's in midair. That includes when she kicks, which counts as midair. Her second phase loves to counter staggering with kicking. So as long as her feet are on the ground at any other time, you can stagger her. In fact, when she sidesteps you, if you time your attack to land as soon as her feet touch the ground, you can STILL stagger her before she starts another combo, which usually leads to her baking away. If you proc enough, you can even "bleed" or "frost" effect her out of Waterfowl Dance, because she's in midair, and falls to the ground. I made my own katana that procs both bleed and frost, and this gave her a ton of trouble. Didn't know about the other strats because I stay offline. Her poise is quite frankly her biggest weakness, and makes all the difference when combined with the right weapons. I did a lot of experimentation with her because I enjoy dissecting things, so I have a lot of info on how she works. She's honestly not that bad, but requires players to analyze things a bit more than they're used to, at least in the modern era, hence the difficulty outcry.
@@japcloud Exactly correct. And at Piggy's level, he should be staggering her enough that she is essentially stunlocked for large portions of the first phase. But because of his use of heavy attacks with long winds ups and recovery, he loses what little advantage he has in the poise department.
I love how shocked he is by the boss using more high end attacks more regularly when he does better in the fight, clearly zero knowledge of fromsoft boss behavior

I love how DSP says that he probably only has a week left of Elden Ring, but he literally just got to the ultra late game where the game spikes in difficulty. 18:05 This is peak DSP brain at work. Instead of taking the breather the game gives you when she does her flower thing to heal up his half-full HP, he instead spams jump attacks into the flower before the attack finishes so he takes damage and essentially starts phase 2 at less than one third HP. Greed is massively strong.
90 deaths. 90 deaths and likely still climbing come tomorrow. Mal takes the crown for biggest detractor boss in Phil's FromSoft history and seems hell-bent on keeping it that way. All we need now is even more deaths, more rage and if the fates allow, him dumping Elden Ring like he did Kirby.

Nah, his first run against Ludwig still tops this. Imagine 3+ hours of him getting bodied until he was just quite. This has potential, but he won't let this get to that point.
Don't worry, guys. At the end there, he said that he definitely feels like he has the right build and the right strategy. So that means hours and hours of more death and more entertainment.
He cannot get to phase 2 consistently…
Also “locked in animations” - means he’s spamming attacks.
As someone who is a “fighting game master,” he really does not grasp the concept of recovery frames huh?😂

I like how he’s talking about her “high poise” like she’s not easy to stagger. From threw us a bone in this boss fight with her incredibly low poise. So that it’s fair in SOME regard.

Trying to brute force Malenia with zero strategy, pattern recognition, situational awareness, or adaptive decision making (jump attacks only). Hmm ...
It's a testament to how over-leveled he is that he can get past phase 1 playing like this.
He can tank the Waterfowl attack TWICE, that just proves how insanely overleveled he is.

“I pressed the button” *shows chat him pressing dahdge button repeatedly*
Her poise is not rng. She has really low poise but like other enemies she gets hyperarmor during attacks.
Hes all about being tanky. So many times he should have died but live thanks to the meta armor
LMAO, its awesome how it went from "nice evade :o" to "hit the fucking bitch! >:c" xD
but why does he keep trying to do the same thing if its clearly not working
I love how shocked he is by the boss using more high end attacks more regularly when he does better in the fight, clearly zero knowledge of fromsoft boss behavior
