I love how he's trying to cover the fact he read the guide on her, casually talking about how her attacks in the first few fights and just instantly understand she heals through attacking and he's completely calm despite being a slow, jumping character almost designed to lose to her.
Really shocked alot of people are talking about this. He was acting suspiciously calm at the start and knew to keep a good distance from her to make sure he had enough spacing to avoid the full force of her waterflow. Against all other bosses hed blindly dash towards them and spam jump heavy. Also his rolling was half decent during her waterflow for someone that's never fought her. No way you dodge that many slashes off rip, plus hes admitted to watching other streamers play elden.

For the first 15 mins or so, Phil was able to keep his cool and sanity. However, his typical whinning and complaining character comes into play as he gradually loses patience, and it just got worse and worse.
The beginning was just him pretending to learn things he already saw about the fight in a guide so he was expecting to die a lot during the act. Once he got that out of the way he was confronted with the fact the he actually has to employ that knowledge successfully to beat her.
What’s crazy is how he tries the SAME dodge 78 times in a row and it doesn’t work but it never dawns on him to maybe try to just run… or god forbid roll past her.

He didn't even pay attention to the game enough to know she had already let the rot flower bloom once, was already infected from birth, and was already missing her arm when fighting Radahn...he allowed her to reattach her arm before engaging. Radahn is Chad AF IMO...best character in the game.
The game has delay on dodging, long input buffers, and locks you into an animation that you can't dodge cancel out of if you naturally turn around 180 while sprinting. The controls are janky.
It’s amazing how many people thought that he was gonna steam roll her because of how overleveled she is. But Malenia is not a boss you can beat by just being overleveled. His jump attack spam is gonna get him killed by waterfowl dance every time and he will never find a way to dodge that. My guess is that he is gonna re-spec eventually to a bleed build and fully upgrade rivers of blood and cheese her after X number of attempts lol
There are cheese jump builds that counter maleina as well, dual wielding two hammers and spamming jump attack is one of them, won't be long before dsp switches weapons AGAIN for his cheese starts.

Plus, as someone who uses dual colossal greatswords, you still have to know her moveset in order to beat her. I still struggle even though I know how to dodge her waterfowl attack 90% of the time, so I highly doubt that DSP will ever figure that out or bother practicing to do so.
I honestly find it hilarious at this point that from the start to current of his playthrough he is still heavily relying on just using jump attacks. In fact, I don’t recall much of him using any melee move that doesn’t involve a jump attack xD
He tells everyone how he has played a VARIETY OF BUILDS and how he's doing EVERYTHING, yet his combat style is just mashing the same button over and over again, and whining when he reacts too slowly to anything.

FAAAAAAACTS. I also noticed how he casually mentioned her second phase. When i first fought her and finally beat her first phase I screamed in celebration and then almost cried when the second phase cutscene played.
To be fair if you weren’t expecting a second phase after making it to through the Haligtree you’re either an extreme optimist or just haven’t been paying attention. From soft has a major hardon for second phase bosses. Not like she’s unique.

I'm surprised that DSP actually understood the lore surrounding Malenia, Radahn, the rot, her prosthetic arm and he didn't die as soon as the cutscene ended. Gotta raise the astronomically low bar just a tad.
In all fairness this is THE hardest boss in any fromsoft game, hands down, after getting the platinum trophy for every game they put out including OG demons souls and DS2, I can definitely say she is the absolute pinnacle of difficulty. He at least deserves a golf clap for beating her with shitty jump attack and without summoning ashes or anything.

You know dsp spent that whole night watching guide videos and counter builds to her. He'll come back next stream and claim he "thought" of the perfect way to beat her during his off time.
What I find the most depressing is how he is *almost* reasonable. He tries and fails every single time when it comes down to it, granted watching the fall from that reasonable mindset is super entertaining.
It's crazy how little progress he has made on her. He is so overleveled it takes her 6 hits to kill him. He can just spam roll brainlessly during her waterfowl dance and even though he still gets hit he survives it. The funny thing is that his reactions are so bad that he spaces her out and sees her start the attack and still doesn't dodge the start of it in time and then just gets combo'd to death most of the time despite his massive hp bar. He's also clearly read guides on this shit as usual. He's spacing her out once she gets low enough to start doing waterfowl dance and then waits for her to do a move. This makes ZERO sense to do unless you know how that move works and it goes completely against how he has fought every other boss in the game.
His expectation of tips astounds me. His level of gameplay is horrible. All he does is jump attack. Imagine going out to eat and your server brings you food but you never see them again until the bill, then expects a tip. Why would someone want to tip for poor performance? From games are meant to take you out of your comfort zone and force you to learn and adapt or die. Imagine a boxer that only throws haymakers. His career wouldn’t last long.
It'd be more like you went to a restaurant and asked for the specials of the day and they tell you "French Onion soup" even though you realize there's a blackboard with them written down near the hostess desk that has 4-6 things on it but your server insists that all they have is French Onion soup
he himself noted the first time he critical'd her that she followed up with waterfowl dance when she recovered, which he also noted is devastating if she starts it near you, and at no point did he consider 'do the critical then RUN AWAY because waterfowl dance is coming'
I don't understand why he keeps jump attacking. You take extra counter damage when you're in the air, you commit to the attack, it takes way too much stamina and the recovery is terrible. He complains about the camera moving around but if he swung on the ground at least his character would adjust their swing to follow the lock on.
My guess is he either levels up more to try and make himself over leveled, or he respecs to a build he reads is best to fight her with or he uses a spirit summons
He's such a phony. He's not surprised by her moves (not even any reaction to her grab, which should be a surprise to everyone the first time they get caught by it), he noticed instantly that she could recover her health, and he showed no real anger at losing. Seems like Orphan of Kos all over again except this time he's going to drag this out on purpose to try and get donations + subs before later "stumbling" upon a build that works against her while he pretending to be surprised that it's working so well.
"She has no stagger!". In my experience she is probably the easiest boss to knock down. Hell, just one Taker's Flame will usually knock her on her ass, but Phil is using his tried and true "jump attack!"... So he is never going to win this fight lol.
Yeah, a good patient player with the Blasphemous Blade can beat her out through attrition spacing out the Takers Flame attacks to create breaks and get big free heals. Phil is just an idiot wondering why he has no stamina after 3 or 4 jump attacks
She has no poise outside of the hyper armour she gets in certain attack animations. Which means that the way to win is to play aggressively (but smart) and try and stunlock her into a couple of attacks when she’s idle. Like whenever Phil hits her with a jumping attack he should follow up with some regular hits because she’ll be staggered. But he’s too used to just using jump attacks which are too slow to stunlock her.
I haven't seen one of these comps in ages. To be completely honest, maybe it's just me, but Phil somehow seems to be more positive than I remember him being. Sure, he's a little whiny, but this is light work in comparison to older stuff I've seen DSP do, and hardly worse than myself when I'm in the privacy of my own home. Maybe we all can improve, despite our circumstances. Good luck, Phil. I hope you keep finding ways to enjoy video games.

A "variety of weapons." He uses the same attack over and over again regardless of the weapon, so the gameplay doesn't change, just the range.

I saw a dude that was 200+ with rivers of blood and some other weapons equiped and still got destroyed
I read that they had patched the bleed effect for this boss. They greatly reduced its affect as many people were cheesing it.
There nerfed bleed and frost proccs in 1.04

FAAAAAAACTS. I also noticed how he casually mentioned her second phase. When i first fought her and finally beat her first phase I screamed in celebration and then almost cried when the second phase cutscene played.
To be fair if you weren’t expecting a second phase after making it to through the Haligtree you’re either an extreme optimist or just haven’t been paying attention. From soft has a major hardon for second phase bosses. Not like she’s unique.

In all fairness this is THE hardest boss in any fromsoft game, hands down, after getting the platinum trophy for every game they put out including OG demons souls and DS2, I can definitely say she is the absolute pinnacle of difficulty. He at least deserves a golf clap for beating her with shitty jump attack and without summoning ashes or anything.

This is Phil's hell, Malenia 1st phase for all eternety.
It's crazy how little progress he has made on her. He is so overleveled it takes her 6 hits to kill him. He can just spam roll brainlessly during her waterfowl dance and even though he still gets hit he survives it. The funny thing is that his reactions are so bad that he spaces her out and sees her start the attack and still doesn't dodge the start of it in time and then just gets combo'd to death most of the time despite his massive hp bar.
He's also clearly read guides on this shit as usual. He's spacing her out once she gets low enough to start doing waterfowl dance and then waits for her to do a move. This makes ZERO sense to do unless you know how that move works and it goes completely against how he has fought every other boss in the game.

His expectation of tips astounds me. His level of gameplay is horrible. All he does is jump attack. Imagine going out to eat and your server brings you food but you never see them again until the bill, then expects a tip.
Why would someone want to tip for poor performance? From games are meant to take you out of your comfort zone and force you to learn and adapt or die. Imagine a boxer that only throws haymakers. His career wouldn’t last long.
It'd be more like you went to a restaurant and asked for the specials of the day and they tell you "French Onion soup" even though you realize there's a blackboard with them written down near the hostess desk that has 4-6 things on it but your server insists that all they have is French Onion soup
he himself noted the first time he critical'd her that she followed up with waterfowl dance when she recovered, which he also noted is devastating if she starts it near you, and at no point did he consider 'do the critical then RUN AWAY because waterfowl dance is coming'

I don't understand why he keeps jump attacking. You take extra counter damage when you're in the air, you commit to the attack, it takes way too much stamina and the recovery is terrible. He complains about the camera moving around but if he swung on the ground at least his character would adjust their swing to follow the lock on.
My guess is he either levels up more to try and make himself over leveled, or he respecs to a build he reads is best to fight her with or he uses a spirit summons

He's such a phony. He's not surprised by her moves (not even any reaction to her grab, which should be a surprise to everyone the first time they get caught by it), he noticed instantly that she could recover her health, and he showed no real anger at losing. Seems like Orphan of Kos all over again except this time he's going to drag this out on purpose to try and get donations + subs before later "stumbling" upon a build that works against her while he pretending to be surprised that it's working so well.

"She has no stagger!". In my experience she is probably the easiest boss to knock down. Hell, just one Taker's Flame will usually knock her on her ass, but Phil is using his tried and true "jump attack!"... So he is never going to win this fight lol.
Yeah, a good patient player with the Blasphemous Blade can beat her out through attrition spacing out the Takers Flame attacks to create breaks and get big free heals. Phil is just an idiot wondering why he has no stamina after 3 or 4 jump attacks
She has no poise outside of the hyper armour she gets in certain attack animations. Which means that the way to win is to play aggressively (but smart) and try and stunlock her into a couple of attacks when she’s idle.
Like whenever Phil hits her with a jumping attack he should follow up with some regular hits because she’ll be staggered. But he’s too used to just using jump attacks which are too slow to stunlock her.
It took me approximately 5 minutes to realize how easily she's stunlocked and staggered. I'm a lowly rivers user (pve only) and it shredded her.

I haven't seen one of these comps in ages. To be completely honest, maybe it's just me, but Phil somehow seems to be more positive than I remember him being. Sure, he's a little whiny, but this is light work in comparison to older stuff I've seen DSP do, and hardly worse than myself when I'm in the privacy of my own home. Maybe we all can improve, despite our circumstances.
