@@chrismac2234 It's a misconception to say the pitches were "terrible" in the late 80's. They had gotten much better by then. The video clearly shows this. There were some that got a bit dodgy but for the most part, the pitches were actually quite good.
Absolute baller. Him, Barnes, Aldridge and Houghton were a fantastic foursome with McMahon and Nicol and Hansen behind them. One of England's great club sides
Oh that's a lovely goal, that's a lovely goal is one of those commentating moments that will always light a flame in my soul. They were the best of times and they were the worst of times, eh. God what a fitball club and people.
As a 12 year old Liverpool fan in 1987, these felt like they were about as golden as years you could get as a supporter. I was a good young player, played for my school etc and many of the skills I learned on the pitch came from watching Peter Beardsley and John Barnes. Great video.
Magic No.7, what was Souness thinking in selling and he went on to play brilliant for Newcastle for years later after he left Everton. Kenny knew how to sign a great player for us.
amphilbey Souness made the same mistake Ron Atkinson did at Man United in 1983. The funny thing is Baconface tried to sign Beardsley for Man United in 1987. He definitely wasn't going back to Man United
Your loss was the toons gain. Being a geordie lad little pedro is the best I've ever seen in the black and white and is my favourite player of all time. He had it all. Scored over 200 goals in the top flight, not bad for an ugly midget from Newcastle.
Leeds here: I think Dalglish, as manager, created the best club team/squad I think I've ever seen. I was in my early 20's and was in awe of this team of mercurial talents. The players in that squad which Dalglish melded were unbelievable. They were almost psychic in knowing what to do at such speed without looking for each other. Phenomenal: Me and my mate, both Leeds followers said that the 5-0 caning of Forest in a league game (I think) said that was the best game we'd ever seen. I couldn't identify, or single out out, any individual because, as a team, they were mesmeric. Alex Ferguson knew who he had to beat, to emulate, to be the man who created the next generation, but to me, being a football 'fan', this topped everything. To you lucky scousers who were there, witnessing this poetry, history will be told of such genius talent and outright passion. Football now is full of cheats; falling and collapsing at being brushed or even breathed upon. I can't even watch games any more. I don't even recognise it as a viable sporting entertainment, and when we discuss England with their current incumbent manager...well, I'd rather remember that 5-0 demolition of football purity.
Beardsley was always one of my favs. The way he curved a run to beat the office trap and that goal against Everton, "That's a lovely goal". A genius. Very underrated IMO.
He never stops running,I think he was born with an extra lung, had taken ballet lessons in the womb and as he entered this world passed football masterclass.Look he weaved pass players in virtual quagmires. That's why I would rate him able Messi etc.
I have a feeling that Peter Beardsley had a perfectly good goal ruled out during Liverpool's 1988 FA Cup Final against Wimbledon. If I remember correctly, Beardsley managed to stay on his feet, inspite of a foul by the Wimbledon defender, Andy Thorn,I think, and then race away to score past Wimbledon goalie, Dave Beasant, only for that thick crud of a referee,Brian Hill, to disallow the goal, and bring back the play for a Liverpool free kick
And a fine goal it was too. Delicate deft chip over the advancing Beasant, reminiscent of Dalglish's winner vs Bruges ten years earlier. Referee Hill knew he cocked up.
You are right,it was a perfectly good goal. Then McMahon got clattered by that fucking chav Jones and it was then that it dawned on me that it wasn't going to be our day.Thirty years on,it still enrages me when I think about that final. If any team deserved a league and cup double it was that 87-88 team.

The Rocky Balboa of English soccer. Rival fans & opposing players laughed when they saw him & heard him talk. But they underestimated him at their own peril. Because with a ball at his feet Beardsley was seriously SERIOUSLY good & very dangerous
I found on a RUclips video clip of Peter Beardsley that he was regarded as being England's answer to Lionel Messi. I can understand why. First of all, both players had a low centre of gravity, they both had great footwork and dribbling skills. Both were great passers of the ball, and when it came to shooting, both of them needed little back lift when it came to unleashing a shot at goal. Beardsley would, however, shade it for me, in that he was a better two footed player than Messi, whilst Messi was practically reliant on his left foot

He was a Brilliant wee player and i was in the kop the day he scored the hattrick against man United.
Dirty mancs got what they deserved that day haha
I know this is Beardsley's video but seriously - how good was John Barnes?
Barnes was the diamond that made the difference, making Liverpool that 0.1 per cent better than the rest.
Agree. I was counting the number of lay offs Barnes gave for Beardsleys goals. Peter was still fantastic all the same.
Barnes was top of the pile
Barnes was the best player in the country and possibly the whole world, and Beardsley was the second-best.
Best era, the peak of football
Very gifted lad
Barnes to McMahon (running on), to Beardsley. Lethal on the left side of pitch. Would definitely have won another European cup if there was no ban.
His style of play was quite similar to Dalglish, especially some of his finishes.
Almost reminds me of Diogo Jota watching these. Fantastic finishes!
Diaz reminds me of Beardsley the way he runs back and forth linking the defence and attack. Just a shame he isn't as good a finisher.
lumpy lumpy lovely chicken
He always reminds me of Ball Boy from The Beano.
I'm a Newcastle lad and I watched Pedro from the stands. Better than Gazza and the equal of Messi. Maradonna rated him in the top 10 ever. I agree
class player
Personally I think he was as good as George best
And Garrincha! and Pele. Those four were the best at the game.
He was definetly more intelligent. Best just used to dribble all the time to make himself look good
Easily.
He is surely a “raumdeuteur”
He was that, but also a lot more. And Barnes was a classic winger and an inside forward and a raumdeuter and a midfield playmaker.
Before me time but what a player from the arl videos I watched as a kid. Souness selling him was a joke, especially to Everton.
He is English version of Raul...
Has accurate ability to goal...maybe give him a pass he handle the rest...
