Ray Clemence – Liverpool Football Club 1967–1981
Ray Clemence is without doubt the greatest goalkeeper ever to play for Liverpool.
Not only that, he was arguably the finest stopper in Europe throughout the 1970s and early 1980s, a period in which Liverpool won five league titles and three European Cups.
In his vivid green goalkeeping top, Clemence became an Anfield institution and will go down as one of the shrewdest transfer bargains in football history.
Clemence made 665 appearances for Liverpool - second only to Ian Callaghan - after joining for £18,000 from Scunthorpe.

Ray Kennedy - Liverpool Football Club 1974-1982

Ray Kennedy was converted by Bob Paisley from a striker to a left sided midfielder and is a Liverpool legend. Maybe Ray's stay at Liverpool would have been only a brief one had it not been for a master-stroke by the astute Bob Paisley when, half-way through the 1975-76 season, he asked the forward to play on the left side of midfield instead. By the end of the year, Ray had made the No.5 shirt ...
Derek Mountfield - Everton Football Club 1982-1988

Derek Mountfield joined the club from Tranmere in 1982 and the lifelong Evertonian got his break when Mark Higgins suffered cruel luck with injuries. It was an opportunity he seized with both hands. Mountfield formed an impressive defensive partnership with Kevin Ratcliffe and he netted an impressive 10 league goals league during the glorious 1984/85 title-winning campaign. Indeed, the lifelong...
Bob Latchford - Everton Football Club 1974-1981

Bob Latchford was one of the leading goalscorers of his generation - at a time when the dominant force in English football lay on the opposite side of Stanley Park. But if trophies were out of reach for Evertonians in the 1970s, the very least the long suffering fans needed was a folk hero in the true Royal Blue tradition to allow them to lift their heads in pride. Bob Latchford became that hero.

The original eccentric genius between the sticks, Bruce Grobbelaar will be best remembered for the wobbly-legged penalty heroics which brought Liverpool the 1984 European Cup Other than the European triumph in Rome, there is just the small matter of his other 626 run-outs for the Reds in a glittering 14-year career in which he established himself as one of the Reds' greatest ever custodians and...

That Steve McMahon goal….. wow. Megs then a thunderbolt.
Best Australian player ever.
Met Jan twice. A really likeable and easy going fella. As a footballer, he was top drawer.
Just fucking majestic. My childhood hero. Still is.
Ke tal agilidad y destreza, un destacadisimo portero icono y leyenda del Liverpool.
A really top player.
Whelan was crap. And I'm a Liverpool fan. Souness. Mcmahon. Gerrard. They were top.
❤
Pure class
Superb player and a great athlete, 1 of our greatest !!!
For me soooo underrated by the English media. Best player I’ve seen at Newcastle in 55 years. Gutted when we sold him, elated when we bought him back 🖤🤍
I was proud to play in the same team The Cosmos between 1963 and 1965. He was Skegness through and through and we all thought the world of him. A talisman and a good lad. RIP, Ray.
Wonderful compilation...as is each Mersey Goals memory..Ray Clemence's view each Saturday of any game would've been priceless. Encapsulating a Liverpool side which so often appeared to have 10 midfielder/ strikers moving the ball around the pitch with ease..
The very very best get a statue of this man at BMD
One of the most underrated players I've ever seen.I believe Best man at Rushies wedding. Ronnie We all appreciate your marvellous and massive contribution ❤
What a player.!magic left foot
Played 60-odd games for the club and yet one of the most important figures in the club's history....
It's easy to forget how good this guy was. Absolute legend!
💯 % effort man
My favourite Liverpool player, oozed class. Thanks for the great memories Ronnie.
I never thought of Reid as being a 'defensive' midfielder.
Damn i didn’t know Steve was this good
Love that you include the commentary and ambience in the clips instead of putting music over it and muting it. Thanks for sharing!
Unfortunately for Everton a crucial period of this video Bobby mimms was deputising.
3:57 Now i understood why he always demand top results and performance from big club players on ESPN FC show. He was too good goalscorer for a Centre Back or Full back.
Big bob
Best goalkeeper, possibly, ever. Agile, energetic and a top class keeper to boot.
I'm a liverpool fan.... But I never knew he was this good in playing days😳😳😳
It's quite a test of memory looking back on Ronnie Whelan's Anfield career but when he started in the team as a youngster he really hit the ground running. Maybe it was his energy, and no doubt ability, coupled with the experience around him that made it such a good fit. I do recall he had to deal with injuries here and there, inevitable team changes and having to find his role in the team again. Despite the competition for places he still was a regular first team player and it's a Liverpool career to be proud of for sure, but part of me thinks it could have been even better, given the impact he made at such a young age.
Andy King 💙
Didn't expect this. Stevie was a stud!
Wasn’t good enough went to Serie A where the real challenge was flopped & sent back where he came from to have it nice & easy at English league as he got exposed
My hero growin up 💙💚🇬🇧 R.I P.
Simply the greatest goalkeeper I've ever seen in my lifetime.
I mean I can’t even finish the video before I’m tempted to say he is far superior to Trent and I love TAA for the record…. Wow, he was an absolute beast … it’s damn near Salah quality goals consistently coming from outside back like whattt?
LFC's finest midfielder ever.
YNWA 4.ever
saw him miss a pen away to chelsea....1-1 ....Barnes scored a lovely free kick. worse pen i ever seen....still a baller though
Best number 11 everton ever had .and best free kick taker ever. Bless you kevin rip.
Sharpy scored a goal on average every two and a half games. Lately we have been lumbered with the likes of Rondon and then the superstar Neal Maupay who gave us one goal in more than 30 games. This is all thanks to the incompetence of many boards of directors over the years.😢
Why souness sold him i dont know
Hard to watch this and compare it to where we are today 😢
Speedy and Coleman should be given the best
He was absolutely world class. Some of his finishing was ridiculous, some of which seemed more on a par with modern day football. One of the best finishers the game has ever produced, I would say probably in the top 3 of all time greatest finishers.
John Aldridge was just as integral to this team as any other Liverpool player. I recall thinking as a 10 year old when Rush moved to Juve: "Who the hell is going to replace him" and not only did he look like Rush, he was arguably as good as him during his time there. It's funny because i was actually disappointed when Rush rejoined because I knew he'd only go on and replace a man who gave us so much during that time. So it was a mixed bag of emotions. My only crititicism of him was that penalty miss in the 88 Cup final. It was a pretty tame effort. He was normally so confident with those but the run up he took against Beasant just didn't look right.
Jan Molby was the epitome of the way Liverpool tried playing football and way ahead of his time as a player. You would imagine him as part of that Barcelona team in 2010. He was practically futuristc because very few players if any played that way during his time.
Was he a winger? I thought of him as an attacking midfielder. As someone said here, he was rather overshadowed by Beardsley, Barnes and probably Aldridge too but his contribution to the team still massively crucial. Just a fantastic player who fitted the mould of that incredible late 80's Liverpool team.
Loved macca
Incredibly consistent with his goal scoring throughout his long career.
The fuckin quality we used to have in defense as opposed to now 😭 almost reflective of the country in general the decline at Everton 😔
