I don't understand why people are so obssessed with IBIS. It doesn't do much for video. It certainly isn't enough stabilization to film while walking. So, you either need a gimbal, which is a whole massive rig to carry around, or you need to active, in which case you need to shut of IBIS anyway. IBIS is a feature that makes photos crisp in lower light settings, or longer zooms. It really doesn't do anything magical for video. Yet people are willing to pay so much for it...

The Sony A6500 and 16-50mm lens is a better choice for performance and money. I love my A6500 and I have owned many, many cameras. High-end and consumer cameras.
just because you own it dorsnt mean its great. Actually the 6500 is pretty old by now, even the 6400 is better aside from IBIS, let alone the 6600/6700.
Why are people so obsessed with IBIS...it doesn't help much for video. The active stabilization is much, much better. Active looks like a gimbal. IBIS just looks very slightly less shakey, but still extremely shakey. Ya'll act like active is a bad thing. You're supposed to do it correctly and carefully in post, then you don't get all the cropping. It's not like IBIS avoids the issue, you still need a gimbal. If you want to do active with an IBIS camera, you have to shut IBIS off anyway. IBIS is a photography feature, not a video feature. It does a similar amount of stabilization to OSS. It is nowhere near enough to film while walking.
Great review! I recently upgraded from my starter camera (the ZVE-10) to the a6700. When I heard about the mark II I was worried I might have jumped the gun- some of the initial predictions about the mark II made ir seem as if it might've trumped the upgrade to the 6700 (which I absolutely love, btw).Awesome to see it upgraded, but it's good to know I'm not really missing out on anything (plus I have IBIS, yo!). Love your channel!
Are IBIS and OSS really useful for walking/vlog videos? My fx30 is unusable for walking video hand-held anyway. My zv-e1 with electronic stab is better (even if stll far from an acrtion camera stab)
You are 100% correct. I don't know why people are so obsessed with IBIS. It does not stabilize video in any signifcant way. Active is much better, and if you do it with gyroflow in post, you can control how much crop there is among many other things. This is ticking me off...so many youtubers are suggesting people spend enormous amounts of money to get IBIS for video...and it doesn't even do the thing they are claiming it does! I don't know how people got so badly misinformed on this. On an IBIS camera, if you want to film while walking, you either need a gimbal, or you need to shut off IBIS and use active. That's it.
Hey JayVee, You first sentence got me typing. Been following you for years and love the show. I'm 75 and switched from Leica lllrd with f1,2 Summicron (lux?) via a spotmatic and Sony a7r+a6000, and YES, I HATE TICKTOCK AND that dreadful portrait format as default. Thanks and keep up the great show!
Bigger battery... oh yeah! I'm thinking of picking this up for a lighter option and for the high MP pictures (than the zve1). A zoom warning would be nice! Hope they're watching your video ;) I have accidentally recorded slow motion with NO audio too (on my ZV1M2), nice it's a switch! IBIS missing is too weird! NOW I'm leaning towards the a6700... the apsc lenses make the whole setup so much lighter...
@@JasonVong sure am, got the 16-25 f2.8 G lens recently and love it (though I also got the Pocket 3 and have been loving it as a tiny on the go vlog cam too). But would still like a slightly lighter option at times with top quality and more MPs for photos...
The Mark ii is completely changed from the baby ZVE10, the new grip, bigger battery, fulltouch display, more practical features and lot more, the older model was super powerful too instead of just vlogging, the Mark ii will be a powerhouse and upgrade on the previous e10💪🏻❤️🔥

Thanks for the review with genuine insights!! And really amazing alternative recos. Still a great cam, and for sure will still be a hit for some, but gotta do a lot of work around without that IBIS.
Definitely wondering about the overheating. Recording a podcast with the version 1 dies after 1.25hrs and overheats about the same while charging even when using high sensitivity
the zoom rocker on the ZVE1 was the absolute deal breaker for me. I just couldn't get past it. the only solution was a cage, which defeated the purpose of a small camera.
I have owned the A6700 for 3 months I am happy with it has all my needs. Anyway, I was curious of the ZV-10 II as I expected the price the features are improved 10bitt, 4k60 but without IBS, Shutter dials, and no mechanic shutter. I knew, they limited the ZV line because, if it has all the features you should probably pay more than the normal. The ZV-E II is a good camera for new beginners for making films, photos, and vlogs. I'm not a vlog guy but if you wanna vlog In my opinion use the DJI 3 wide lens, easy to carry around.
This camera is targeted towards entry level streaming. In that term, its an amazing upgrade. Apart from overheating issues with Gen 1 cameras, the Mini-HDMI connector is notoriously fragile on Sony cameras, which led to constant disconnects. Would have wished to see a segment how the USB-C cable has fixed this
This seems to be well thought out camera and nicely placed in their lineup. It solves most of the issues I have with the original, but keeping the dim screen may be a dealbreaker for me. You can forget about still photography on a sunny day at f4. But fast primes can turn it into a workable hybrid. EVFs can be pricey.
Only issue is overheating. If you only shoot short 4k60 clips (less than 15min) then it's a fine camera. Stabilization is good enough even if it's software only.
Always appreciate it when big camera reviewers like yourself are honest about a camera, and don't just say "it's the best of the best" even when it's not. So yeah, the lack of IBIS, lack of mech shutter in a "also-photo" camera, and $999 price, can make it a tougher choice for some people. While the updated menu, touchscreen, vertical shooting, 10bit, and especially the bigger battery (double the capacity) are great things.
The square frame that appears on older Sony cameras during clear image zoom is to indicate that it can’t do tracking auto focus anymore. That’s what I thought anyway.
For stabilization I use a high end gimbal stabilizer mount. Advantage that I can transfer to my other cameras (or even my phone with an adapter). Now excuse, me it's waaay past my nap time. I am 68 years old and need my nap time.
It’s a great camera but why no EVF 😢 it’s going to suck shooting in bright daylight, you won’t see anything you shoot properly due to the low resolution of the screen. They’ve really made this camera for self vlogging indoors only😅
no mechanical shutter is a dealbreaker for still photography with most led lighting. I found that banding with the old zv-e10 went away when i turned off electronic and silent shutter. i use the first version with adapted vintage lenses and a focal booster to get (almost) full-frame field of view as an excellent budget still camera that does great video. There were compromises for a $6-700 camera, mostly with the options and ui, but this new version with electronic shutter only would be a downgrade for me as a mostly still photographer who does some video.
I've loved my ZV-E10 and was interested in the Mark II for a second, just to have. But not for over a 30% increase. Just need to be patient for a decent used FX3 still and jump on the FF train. Time = more saved $$$. Cheers.

Yess apsc camera launch every 2-3 years gap but doesn't have good apsc lense and almost all apsc lense is more than 4-7 years old That's why lens sharpness is not as good as full frame equivalent focal length lenses because full frame lenses upgrade every 2 and 4 years ❤❤❤ every company need to focus on their apsc lenses before launching the apsc camera
No IBIS / low crop EIS is a massive deal breaker if you're shooting 10 bit since catalyst browse doesn't allow exporting 10 bit. Would need to pay for catalyst prepare
if you are just getting into content creation and want a rather large step up from your iphone/phone footage, you really can't go wrong with this zv-e10 for $999 on the body or you could opt for a second hand sony a7iii body in great condition for ~$900-1000 these days. can't go wrong with either choice.
If you are prepared to use a webcam, I've seen the insta360 link and Obsbot tiny 2 (£250) , get very close to the Zv-e10 mark I + sigma 16mm F1.4, minus the bokeh which you can add in software.
In this price range i would go for the A6700. Personally, I will stick with the generation 1 ZV-E10 because the new version is lacking the mechanical shutter and also has no IBIS.
Sony does some great things with their camera. I wish that EVERY camera manufacturer had power zooms and rocker switches on the bodies, and my Panasonic cameras are envious of both the autofocus and better battery life. But man, I couldn't even think about buying this camera due to the lack of IBIS and the overheating issues. Since Sony still makes the a7 III (yes, the a7 III), why not put an aps-c sensor in to a7 III body to reduce overheating and provide more buttons???
This might be a dumb question but what’s the harm of just leaving the product showcase mode on for the whole shoot? Especially if you know that you will be showing products here and there?
Appreciate your candor in this first impressions video, Jason! Two questions: 1) if this were to be used as a webcam for a Zoom meeting for instance, is a capture card necessary or will a USB cable suffice? and 2) will the audio from say a Sony ECM mic on the ZV-E10ii be picked up by the computer? Overkill for Zoom calls, I know.
How about a comparison between the MK1 and MK2 16-50? your second rant was about no ibis and no new OSS lenses but the zv-e10 II comes with a new OSS II 16-50 lens? would be nice to see a comparison as no review yet has really mentioned it! :D
Once I had to return to the 3x a week my zv-e10 was no longer useful . 2 weeks later I wish I had it back, maybe I’ll get this when there’s a price drop.
You should make a video of recording a concert with just one mic there are almost none. I have treid the Sony ECM-B1M and now the Comica V30 both are great for vlog but terrible for recording music concerts, the onboard Mic on my Sony A6700 is so much better for that. Isnt there a better Mic out there for that purpose ?
they just need to make it open gate, that way you get horizontal and tik tok content in one shot and the camera ergonomics are more suited to being horizontal
zv-e10ii has a gyro, which lets you do all sorts of stabilization in post. For video, that's a huge advantage. You don't always want to be lugging around a giant gimbal.
If they would have just put a fan built-in to the little zv e 10 ii , it would've move mountains, just like it is. That would've really been Worth the price overheating issues

Yess apsc camera launch every 2-3 years gap but doesn't have good apsc lense and almost all apsc lense is more than 4-7 years old That's why lens sharpness is not as good as full frame equivalent focal length lenses because full frame lenses upgrade every 2 and 4 years
❤❤❤
every company need to focus on their apsc lenses before launching the apsc camera
on amazon is a 140€ discount for the a6700 right now. thats only 120€ more for the 6700 as the zv e10 mk2 :D
Since Sony still makes the a7 III (yes, the a7 III), why not put an aps-c sensor in to a7 III body to reduce overheating and provide more buttons???
so basically this isn't for photos? What should I get in the same price point from Sony for photos?
How did you get your A6700 shutter to stay down? @23:30
No mechanical shutter is a deal breaker. Will just keep my lovely mark 1 ❤
Well over a year ago I suggested folks go grab the old 10-18mm f4 OSS and/or the 16-35mm f4 OSS Zeiss. Good luck today. Prices already moving on eBay.
i was waiting for this to be my camera i learn on, but ill probably just buy the A6700 and wait for mark 3 hopefully with ibis and a viewfinder
Based on your test with the Laowa 9mm, I can guess that the Active Stabilization now works quite well with third party lenses... Does it?
This might be a dumb question but what’s the harm of just leaving the product showcase mode on for the whole shoot? Especially if you know that you will be showing products here and there?
I have the 6700, I’m here to laugh with your humor, keep it up
Appreciate your candor in this first impressions video, Jason! Two questions: 1) if this were to be used as a webcam for a Zoom meeting for instance, is a capture card necessary or will a USB cable suffice? and 2) will the audio from say a Sony ECM mic on the ZV-E10ii be picked up by the computer? Overkill for Zoom calls, I know.
the new body looks so much more black😍
This is literally the baby sony zve-1 . I wish I woulda bought this instead of dropping 2k on it
How about a comparison between the MK1 and MK2 16-50? your second rant was about no ibis and no new OSS lenses but the zv-e10 II comes with a new OSS II 16-50 lens? would be nice to see a comparison as no review yet has really mentioned it! :D
that intro hurt youngblood.. respect your elders LOLLL
I'll buy the a6700 instead of this.... I was waiting.. waited for nothing lol
No IBIS is okay as long as it came with deez LUTs.
Ibis is the deal breaker, I will get 6700 instead 😅
Should I get a6400 or pay extra 250£ and get zv-e10ii? I’m doing both vlogging and photography, and planning on buying gimbal
zv-e10ii has a gyro, which lets you do all sorts of stabilization in post. For video, that's a huge advantage. You don't always want to be lugging around a giant gimbal.
If all you care about is shooting video, this is a really good camera, but for most people the A6700 is the better choice.
whats about the Rolling Shutter with this Model?
If they would have just put a fan built-in to the little zv e 10 ii , it would've move mountains, just like it is. That would've really been Worth the price overheating issues
What if the original zve-10 is half the price of the mark ii? Which one would you choose?
I have to agree with the 6700, unless your budget can't stretch that far, the A6700 is the better value and camera overall.
Really hate that there is no ibis, I was about to buy the mark 2 until I found the OG in Facebook market for 300 bucks today with the kit let’s.
I didn't expect for the price bump
