Hey y’all, worked super hard on this! Hope you guys enjoy it and find it helpful! It’s 52min but I did my best to include visual examples so it’s easier to understand what each feature does! It took me so long to make this because I didn’t want skimp on it. I put a lot of thought into it to make sure it makes sense from a Photo/Video Hybrid perspective. This is meant to be viewed for years to come by all incoming Sony a7IV users. Guides like these always FREE! If you appreciate my time & effort, the best thing you can do for me is just watch it when you have the time. Like & Comment always help. And of course, sharing it with fellow Sony users!🙏😁🥰 THANK YOU! And have fun with your a7IV!
I just want to point out that I’ve watched this video 5 times now. As a camera noob, I was lost but I managed to learn as I went on. Around a little less than halfway you mentioned to switch to video mode but you never said to switch back to camera mode. Just thought I would help out someone else who was also confused. I ended up staying in video mode the rest of the video and had to go back and redo the camera mode after I noticed. Great video but hard for a newbie to understand.
yes i thought i wa sthe only one that noticed lol mee too i was like huh lol was doing everything in video mode then i heard switch to video mode even though thats what he said in the beginning good video overall excellent
Thanks for this video, Jason. Two years ago I purchased the A6400 and found your setup guide. It helped me set up my camera. 2 years later, I sold my A6400 and lenses. I bought the A7IV, and now I'm back again and using your video to set my camera up. You're the only person I would trust for this. Thanks again
i was a canon guy for a well over 6 years now and recently shifted to sony because you know... and the only thing i wanted to learn was the menu system and key customizations, trust me i spent over an hour with you and when you asked to mention it down in the comments below , it urged me to quickly scroll down and thank you. this really helped me a lot and i watch all of your tutorials regarding sony cameras and lenses. thank you once again Jason.. youre a nice guy.
I had no idea what all the functions and buttons meant at first after purchasing my a7iv but after watching this video for multiple times, i finally set up my camera and now understands all of my functions and buttons. Thank you!
One can’t help but respect the time and effort you’ve put into this video, to make it thorough and easy to watch even if someone don’t have a Sony a7IV. Great job mr Vong 💪🏻
I knew everything about my sony a6300 through your video,4 year earlier and now I get all about my new A7Mark4❤️ ... In depth through your video 😊... I follow you as my youtube teacher . 😁 Love❤️ you from India🇮🇳
Yep, I just spent over an hour in this video (including pausing, rewinding, and jumping around multiple times). *Thank you **_SO MUCH_* for all of the work you put into making this! It was incredibly helpful! My camera's battery was at 92% when I started watching, and after following along in my settings menu, it dropped down to 15% by the time I reached the end!
Yes, I stayed with you to the end and you are right: It was a BEAST! I'm brain-fogged. It took me 4 days with my new a7IV in front of me-never used Sony before, never used mirrorless before, never shot quality video before. In addition, I had to run your video at 0.75 speed and with Closed Caption turned ON. So I may be your worst case viewer. But I made it and now I will rest. Must rest. Too whipped to even take a test shot. 😂 But, without you having made this video... I would not know how to even get started. Thank you.
Just picked up an a7iv (designated stills camera) to accompany my FX6 & Fx3, after following your setup I'm changing all my cameras to run in a similar fashion! 2 months away from Film school graduation (FullSail)...thank you for this starting position as I get more familiar with my cameras!
THANKS A LOT, haven't shoot at Sony for 3 years, last was a Sony a7m2, getting back in a business with new (just received yesterday) a7m4 with tamron 28-75 2.8 g2 - you were extremely helpful, big hugs.
This tutorial was a blessing. I used Mark Galer's video to set up my A7III years ago and this tutorial was just as good if not better. It actually forced me to learn where everything is on the camera. I can fly through and find anything now.
My Alpha 7 Mk4 has arrived today (I come from a Sony NEX R5) and I kiss your heart for this video. There are so many features and most of them I was like "OH YEAH I WANT THIS TO BE ENABLED" like closing shutter when off or not recording the HUD via HDMI etc.
our office ask me what camera do I need then I've watch your videos regarding on a7iv then suggested it on the office, now they bought it and I'm using it for videos, then now I scrap the default settings and follow this settings, it keeps the job easy, this is so awesome, thank you so much Sir Jason, I'm a new subscriber,
This video changed everything for me. I am new to sony as i switched from LUMIX and I was so overwhelmed and every single one of my problems or concerns was answered in the video and I love the camera even more now. Thank you so much JV!
just like my sony a7iii when i first bought it I followed your video to understand the camera settings and the setup, now Im using your this video to setup my A7 iv. Thank You so much for all the efforts you put in to making these videos. THANK YOU!
I spent more than an hour cause I was pausing and following you specially for video as I’m barely starting to get into video. Thank you for this video, it helped a lot!!
Hi . congratulations for the video, I have recently purchased the SONY A7VI. I watched the whole video and tell you how you explained I felt like a friend, I'm new to this world and how I set up the camera now everything seems easier. Thank you
Its been 2 days since I bought my A74 & this was the first video I watched! I cannot express in words how amazing, informative & helpful this tutorial was! Absolutely worth it!!! Coming from an old Nikon, this menu system was totally new to me, but now its familiar. Thanks a ton Jason! Now I can't wait to step out and shoot people(with my camera obviously) :D Cheers. Love all the way from india.
I'll add to the "thank yous" Really helpful & I've been through a lot of these videos. One comment is the switch that occurs around 19:46 - 19:56 had me for a bit. You must have switched from video to photo, I finally figured out. Small issue. Thanks again!
I just got the A7IV. Upgraded from the A6600. This has tremendously helped me understand all the functionalities and features this camera offers and it is A LOT! Cannot wait to try these settings out and this will definitely make my life so much easier! Thank you for creating such detailed video! You rock!
Thank you. This was just the video I needed to get my ready for my 10-day trip to Canada. Just grabbed this cameras as my first Sony transitioning away from Canon.
Dude I knew I could count on you. Upgraded my Sony A7III after a few years of use. Searched Jason Vong A7IV setup and low and behold it exists. Thanks for your content, you do an amazing job laying out the material in an organized and concise manner.
Thanks Jason, this was really really helpful, my first Mirrorless camera, and I was at a loss on how to operate it, and your video has been a great help. Ive sat through the 52 minutes without a break, and I'm sure in the next few weeks, I'm going to be doing that several more times.
As someone coming from Sony A7 to A7IV - this was a very helpful walk through and starting point for me to imagine my settings. Thanks for Sharing Jason!
Most excellent video. and great details and suggestions and pics. Maybe it would be helpful to have quickly a title before each chapters. That gives it a pause as the pace is quite fast. But otherwise. Great quick tutorial illustrated by great pics and clips. Thank you!
Thanks for this video! I finally got my hands on the a7iv and came here immediately to make sure I didn't miss anything when setting it up. I always come to you when I get a new Sony body!
I watched your video 2x's yesterday and listened to it while I worked today in order to prep myself for the arrival of my New Sony A7 IV in the mail today. Coming from Canon I knew there would be a bit of learning curve but being a Geek I knew I would love the challenge. Your detailed video of the menu settings was enlightening and I find easy to understand. As a student of the game... thanks teach!
I might have missed it, but honestly one of the settings I use a lot and is really powerful is the auto min shutter. I find it better than manual in the sense that you can specify you min shutter speed, but the camera can take it higher if need be. This means that you have room if the scene gets brighter whereas with manual and auto iso, it can only go up in iso and can't correct for over exposure.
I spent the whole hour here. I deleted my settings as part of trying to correct some issues (should’ve saved them in the first place cuz it didn’t fix the problem) but I enjoyed going through the menus again as it helped me understand more
Thank you. Great instructional video! Just purchased my a7IV. I have the a6100 and am still learning that camera but I know it well enough to do what I need it to. So much to absorb here with my new a7IV. I will have great fun with the challenge!
I literally spend over an hour on this video setting my a7iv as I reset my settings yesterday without saving them. And I did it standing whole time as I had my camera on tripod, so my legs and back hurts 😅 but it was worth it. Thanks for the vid, now I feel pro in sony menu 🤣
Its been more than a year since this vid was posted yet i barely got my hands on this amazing camera!! So this is still relevant to me 😅😅 Thanks Jason!

One can’t help but respect the time and effort you’ve put into this video, to make it thorough and easy to watch even if someone don’t have a Sony a7IV. Great job mr Vong 💪🏻

There is NO better way to set up a new Sony camera than with Jason Vong. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
