I bought S5iiX as my first camera for hybrid shooting, maybe 60% video. I choose Lumix mostly because of big discounts and a free gift. I got 50, 85mm f1.8 + 20-60mm f3.5-5.6 lenses and camera body brand new for just £2389. My previous considerations for the camera was Fujifilm X-T5, X-H2, Sony A7 IV, A6700, ZV-E1. Choosing my firstt camera WAS SO FREAKING HARD. I went up the budget, because initially I was expecting to spend £1500...
Congrats. The Lumix S5IIx is amazing and was something I considered for upgrading after 9 years of A7RII (though I ended up with the Nikon Z8) - the excellent stabilization and video features (eg: open gate), combined with good stills makes the Lumix it a relative steal at $1200 USD in my personal opinion.
Thanks Jason! You really cracked the Sony model code. I have been looking at Sonys and this helped me understand the line from top to bottom. Your sense of humor makes it all the better!
Very well done. With so many models coming out, especially the video models, this is very timely. However, despite the A7RIII having my favorite Sony sensor, I would recommend the A7RIV over the A7RIII, for experienced photographers for the following reasons (I own and use both). The A7RIV has: better focus and tracking capabilities, more cropability (especially significant for wildlife and sports), 26 megapixel APS-C mode (vs 20 megapixel for the A7RIII), noticeably better button design and ergonomics, Continuous AF (auto focus) up to f/11 (vs only f/8 for the A7RIII), improved tracking notification in the viewfinder, 16 shot pixel shift (instead of 4 shot for the A7RIII), and compatibility with Sony’s small Bluetooth remote (not compatible with the A7RIII), and more remote controls with Sony’s phone app. All that said, the A7RIII has: a quieter shutter, and is more forgiving when the settings are not correct, and may be better for less experienced photographers. The 60 megapixel of the A7RIV shows motion blur much easier than the 42 megapixel sensor, so the shutter speed must be higher. The image is more susceptible to noise, especially in shadow areas when under exposed, and the depth of field is effectively shallower because you can see out of focus areas easier when zoomed into 100%.
I love this video, but just feel like it needs a part 2, that answers the question, “what do I do with all this video footage I have from my new camera?” I don’t want to spend time editing video, so I need a dead simple workflow that take my video clips (that I somehow get into Apple photos, why does Sony make this so hard to access your video clips?) and makes an automatically generated video from a day/week/trip etc.

@@boxoffisa for travel, not everyone needs a full sized gear, especially if you are going out for a vacation and no professional work is involved. although the a7s3 is undoubted the best in class for video, the size of the thing just screams attention, unlike going with a zv that is very compact but can do a lot (including 4k30 hlg / slog3)

For a normal budget person like me. I personally think 33 megapixel is enough for photography shoot out for client and event support. Even wedding photos, because no one will be printing a large billboard print size. All be viewing it on mobile devices and tablets. So a7IV is good to go, and I pair it with a ZV-E1 for low light video. Short video shot for social media only. It's all about tiktok, reals, and stories now. Great rundown of the different models, though one omission that provides huge value is the Sony ZV-E1, which offers FX3 quality in the ZV line and is a phenomenal B camera and travel camera. The ZV-E1 doesn't get a lot of mentions, but it's easily the most fun Sony camera I've used with incredible picture quality.
Great vid and comparison, now I'm really confused ! I want to buy a Sony mostly for photography (wildlife) and was considering a 6000 series or A7 series. Can you please make a recommendation ?
The final breakdown I needed! Wanted something smaller than my a73 to carry and debated a point and shoot but may just get a7c2 with one of the small G lenses. Thanks Jason!
I'm pretty sure the 6100 is still officially available also - and it might have been worth a mention that the NEX line and a5X00 line exist but morphed into the a6X00 line. If buying used the a6100, a5100 or even the NEX7 still get you a 24MP entry point to E-mount.
I own the old Fuji X-T10 and want to switch to Sony full frame, but my wife doesn’t allow me. She told me to go all the way to Leica. Either I should be happy because she wants the best camera (I mostly shoot photos of her), or should I be frustrated because those Leica cameras are still out of reach for my budget. 😅
Thank you very much Jason for a brief but very informative video on SONY cameras. I'm a Nikon man and started taking photos since long. I used Nikon FM2 film camera along with two other, one is Pentax K1000, a SLR and Yashica Electro 35. Then I switched over to Nikon DSLR. My first Nikon DSLR was D80, then D300s and at present I use D810. with six good lenses. Now I want to switchover to SONY mirrorless. Which model of SONY would be best for me? Thanks.
Great video. Just an advise, I am going to buy a new camera, which one do you recommend between Sony alpha 6400 and 7m2K? I will do mainly street photography and family picture
i bought not one but two different A7R 5's thsi past week, both came out of the box from sony with dead pixels in the sensors. i DO NOT recommend a7r v to ANYONE. (at least not until they figure that out)
IMO A7IV is the best bang for the buck, especially if second hand from a dealer in min condition. I would avoid the A6700, as it's as big, but doesn't have joystick, and only size difference is the view finder. A7R V is pricier, more megapixels, better screen as it's fully articulating, it flips out, and tilts up, But the one on A7IV scares me, seems so fragile. So if extreme angles or flipping up and down is still needed you can use a phone in a holder, and if using a cage that will be even more robust option. I only use the flip out screen when I have to. But if you ever trip over it you will likely snap it off. But I'm still not sure if If I made a mistake image quality wise with the A7IV vs the A7R V. But I got mine fo a good price. so was a no brainier. The a7IV still gives massive high quality images. Low light performance is superb. I don't regret it. Got a 24-70 GMII used from a dealer too. Only complaint I have with it is it a dust magnet, it gets dust inside the glass too, But that's common with zoom lenses. If I was rich I would get the A9III for sports. But the A7iv isn't bad. but with the massive price tag of the models past it, like the a9III it's simply silly of me to buy it.
i've considered the A7C line a lot for its compact size and full frame sensor. But at the same time i feel like needing the bigger bulkier full frame lenses kinda defeat the purpose of having a smaller body
Yeah this is also hard for me. I do want to thank you for putting out this video cause I think I may be able to make a decision within the next month on the camera I want. I have a A7 III but I would love to upgrade. I'm a wildlife photographer with a little bit of landscape. I'm stuck between the A7IV, A7RV and maybe the A9 III. 33 megapixels is just enough for me and I don't need high fps since I take photos of large stationary animals but I really like the 4 axis screen that the A7RV and A9 III have lol
Ah! Not my intention to downplay the a7C II. It's great! I just meant if anyone's got the budget for the a7C R to just get that over the a7C II. Less crop in 4K60p and more MP. I dove into more details in my review video.
@@JasonVong I have the Cii, but I've been second guessing my choice over the CR ever since. And this made me wonder if I really am missing out! Thanks for replying
Hopefully they unlock hdmi so Sony cameras can export higher than 4k60 over hdmi to an atomos etc. Sucks owning an A1 and it can’t export 8k. :/ Oh yeah… and it’d be great if Sony did more firmware updates to add features, fix issues rather than holding off and trying to sell us the next version.
When 30 fps is marketed as a high end feature, turn around and RUN as fast as you can. Never look back, higher framerates (60-240+) are the future. Featuring it twice I that triangle was a red flag
Hi.. Need your best advice for someone who want to start a haircutting tutorial videos. Which camera will you recommend for such work? Maybe with a budget less than $1500 .. Thank you 🙏
Great overview Jason! Doesn’t make the choice easier, but at least everyone knows which model stands for 😅 Like you and a lot of other people I’m waiting for the RX1RIII and based on the X100 and Leica Q lineup and high demand, that RX would sell well even at 4000$. But my guess is that Sony somehow fears that camera could cannibalize their lens sales, specifically the GM sales 🤔 And an even more unicorn wish would be a retro camera like Nikon Zf, Fujifilm etc. 😅. Sony bought Minolta back then, but that won’t happen i guess.
8:26 you show a summary of the base A7 models. On the right it says its a full frame sensor, but below it says 4k60 only on APS-C. So if the camera is full frame and not APS-C i'm not sure why its included?

Thanks.
Best info. Best editing. Best voice overs. Sony-send this man some money!
(at least not until they figure that out)
This video is EPIC and it’s an incredible achievement to cover all those differences so well.
I bow, I thank and I’ll go save some money now ✌️
A canon version of this would be cool! I hope you make one. The other videos on youtube don't cut it for me 😂
to Late! I got the A7r V .Also some great lenses reviewed by you sir. The Pokémon analogy was spot on Lol
for only photography, which is better , 16-50mm kit or zv-1,rx100's lenses ?
📸 Wow ! Comparision is summarised but have enough information 👍✨
May the Gods bless you for this 😂 this was so comprehensive! 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 incredible job.
hahah i need this video 4 months ago ! .. but I LOVE the explanation of each of the Sony', so thank you !
im sorry im late
Very well explained since I'm a Sony fan.. the a1's priced was insane 😳 can buy second hand civic low model with add some extra cash😂
Great video! Helped me make my decision to get the 7cii. Upgrading from a canon 7D 😀
Thanks bro, it cleared up so many things running in mind.
The way you said "trust me" about picking the A7CR over the A7Cii makes it sound like the Cii isn't very good?
Omg thank yoooooooou
Informative AND amusing.😂❤
When 30 fps is marketed as a high end feature, turn around and RUN as fast as you can. Never look back, higher framerates (60-240+) are the future. Featuring it twice I that triangle was a red flag
Hi.. Need your best advice for someone who want to start a haircutting tutorial videos. Which camera will you recommend for such work? Maybe with a budget less than $1500 .. Thank you 🙏
Great overview Jason! Doesn’t make the choice easier, but at least everyone knows which model stands for 😅
Like you and a lot of other people I’m waiting for the RX1RIII and based on the X100 and Leica Q lineup and high demand, that RX would sell well even at 4000$. But my guess is that Sony somehow fears that camera could cannibalize their lens sales, specifically the GM sales 🤔
And an even more unicorn wish would be a retro camera like Nikon Zf, Fujifilm etc. 😅. Sony bought Minolta back then, but that won’t happen i guess.
8:26 you show a summary of the base A7 models. On the right it says its a full frame sensor, but below it says 4k60 only on APS-C. So if the camera is full frame and not APS-C i'm not sure why its included?
This was informative and funny to watch! Thanks
I can’t believe Sony abandoned the RX10/100 line of cameras.
Hi jason just concern why nex series is not included in this video? Hoping you can answer😊
The flagship camera can’t do animal-eye AF in video when the entry level cameras can lol
Very helpful video! Thankyou!
Doing the lords work fr
13:57 - For a moment there, I thought I saw SIMP before realizing it was 51 MP.
I was wondering how long it would take for someone to make a mention 😂😂
Brilliantly explained, well done, thank a mil!
oh man, im back in math class. great breakdown.
Hi, I'm starting to takes sports photos, I'm taking them with a A6400 because that's what I have at this moment. I want to upgrade to full frame, but I don't have the budget for an A1 or A9. Which camera would you recommend?
If you don’t mind pre own gear, look into a used a9 the original one. It’s about 1500 on KEH and they have a great return policy if you don’t like it!
Wicked video & I now have a much better understanding, ThanQ.. 🙏🏾
thanks for making this video over sony camera. confusions are cleared. peace ✌
Thanks for this info, I'll go for the a7 iii
Any rumors on the fx3 mark ii ?
Hey man. Great video. Thanks for the content. ❤
