I actually like the regenerative/electric motor whirring noise of the hybrid. It's just a pleasant white noise to me. I remember as a young boy in the 1970s helping my Grandpa at his service station he got first hand look at a 1969 Toyota Corona that came in for an oil change. Grandpa was a diehard "buy American" old guy. He gave the Corona a once over with his shop light and said to me "I hate to say it, but these (insert racist Japanese term here) really build some solid cars." "Toyota is going to be big, you watch." 50 years later, I guess he was right.
My grandfather fought in ww2 in pacific and hated the Japanese, now his Grandson is married to one lol. After military retirement he became a Toyota tech for over 40 years because he knew that Americans would buy the hell outa Toyotas so he knew he would always have a job
@@drunksquirrel2051 Same, my Grandpa fought in WW2 and absolutely hated Japanese people and anything associated with them. Having his service station in a small "patriotic" town, not many people owned Asian/European cars. He lost one of his fingers working on a Honda Accord. He wasn't aware of the electric cooling fan. He retired a couple years later because more and more people were bringing Hondas/Toyotas in and he couldn't keep up with the technology of those vehicles.
This is exactly what I needed to know. People around me are screaming about EVs’ but I like the option of hybrids but worried about the maintenance cost. Now I feel better about getting a hybrid for my lifestyle. I don’t want range anxiety or to worry about towing heavy items without losing power or mileage.
Toyota owes you a commission! I bought a 2022 RAV4 XLE Hybrid after watching your videos. I only found your channel after starting my car shopping. Even though I've got the car, I still keep watching your feed! Great info always.
I got 44.7 mpg in city and interstate combined. The car is two years old now, we got it brand new. We had no issues in this two years. Runs very smooth and quiet and can be quick if needed. It’s very spacious. We love it. It’s a Toyota RAV4 xse hybrid
I would bet that your story is fabricated or you don’t know how to check gas mileage with a pencil and paper at the pump. I think if you do a tried and true gas mileage calculation you will find that your RAV4 Hybrid is actually only getting between 28 and 30 miles per gallon with combined city and highway driving. What the cars tell you that you the mileage you are getting and what the mileage really is are two different things. People nowadays believe everything they are told. Sad the way people are nowadays.
Hello, great video. Been driving my 2021 Hybrid Toyota Venza Limited for six months now , I've been getting around 40 to 42 mpg average but at times I have attained 50 mpg but driving extremely conservative and almost unnatural to my driving style. I couldn't be any happier with this SUV. The engine switching on and off is totally unnoticeable at any speed.
One thing I really like about my Lexus hybrid is free acceleration in the passing lane. The battery boost also comes on for hill climbing in many cases.
I bought a 22 corolla hybrid in January. Been getting low 40's up to 66 mpg in the cold climate. With gas prices as they are, the hybrid will pay for itself sooner than expected
Very true, but even if gas prices were as before I'd never consider buying a non-hybrid from Toyota or Lexus (excluding 4runner/landcruiser/GX/LX of course). If Toyota offers a hybrid, that's what you should buy- I think they're the best in the business when it comes to that (even though they're still using heavy and outdated nickel metal hydride, which is cheap but much less efficient, heavy and doesn't wear as well as lithium ion).
A wise man can see the advantage of the Toyota Hybrid and will not drive the EV till the battery pack dies and leaves you stranded, next the towing bills today are near non affordable and have outrageous towing bills to say nothing of what the dealership will charge to go through the recharge process of the stand alone EV battery pack!
I have been Happy with my camry hybrid 2018. People laughed when i bought it in middle east but now with increasing gas prices, people appreciate my decision. Your videos are great wisdom. Please keep up the great work. Kudos to the car care nut.
Feeling like if o am watching o e if the best TV shows, you know those famoud shows we used to watch before RUclips . You're not only an expert in your field but a true charismatic man.
Toyota should be paying you for your advertising! You are very honest and because of your channel I have purchased literally 3 Toyota Camry's over the past 18 months. The first was and LE, then a hybrid LE and the last one a hybrid SE. I am very happy with Toyota! Average 45MPG! Thank you for all the great info!
This is exactly what I am currently considering. As usual you have provided the most comprehensive list of factor for me to consider. For those considering Toyotas this channel is PURE GOLD. Thanks AMD
Your video just saved me from making a mistake. I was planning to buy an ES300h for a home where it would sit in the garage 5 months out of the year. Thank you!
Literally every single video, my man’s spitting STRAIGHT FACTS! The reason why I love this channel is because he is coming from a place where he just wants to educate, inform as well as focus on giving us the best advice. Thanks for the great content, and as always keep up the great work!
Dear AMD, while watching this video and listening to you, I feel extremely strongly and emotionally connected to every single of your words. As a grateful owner of my 2018 Camry Hybrid LE, I CANNOT agree more to everything you’ve said. I wish all my teachers and professors were like you. Simply (but complexly) amazing! 🤝
I did a lot of research and just purchased my Toyota Hybrid RAV4 XLE Premium. I am so pleased with it and you confirmed it to me even more. Excellent video!!!
I've just bought a new Toyota RAV4 Hybrid in UK thanks to you. I've only had it a month and just love the P710 eCVT and A25 units. Had German for many years, time to give Japan a go. We get 10 year warranty on the car in UK. Love your channel.
Well done, sir. I've owned a Toyota Camry Hybrid since 2012. After 10 years and 100k miles of routine maintenance, no problems other than replacing rear-wheel speed sensors and paint fading away on the roof and front hood.
Next time, take your car to a detail shop, once every 2 years. Ask for a ceramic coat to be put on and use a designated car wash soap. I have an 09 Tacoma and paint (dark metallic grey paint)looks like new. I do it myself and polish my car for swirls and such, but if you don’t wanna deal with that, pay a good detail shop. Toyota actually has one of the harder paints out there. Need to use specific polish for it. Drive thru car washes and cheaper car soaps or dishwashing soap destroys paint.
Love your channel and because of the information provided here I recently bought the 22 Carolla Hybrid. Still on the 1st tank of fuel after 450 miles. Rides nicely yet, there is a fair amount of cabin/wind noise. The 4Runner is being kept for extreme weather conditions.. Huge Toyota fan here especially after seeing a 1984 Camry with 600k on the clock. Thank you for the time you spend making these videos and the cogent "arguments" made.
my '23 corolla hybrid.... practically the same as the '22 can reach 560 miles in one fill. i just have to keep myself from flooring.... but it's so fun! whoooosh!!!!😂
I'm a fan of almost any type of sports car or muscle car. My wife just bought a '22 Prius and she loves it. The big surprise, to me, is that I love it too. It's fun to drive and it get's better than 50 mpg all the time. It's not fast, but it's still a fun car to drive and a great daily driver.
Thank you for bringing so much awareness of hybrid maintenance. I've always been a diy'er but have steered away from hybrids. I just got my first and feel more confident with your channel. Thank you!
Thank you for your videos! I was literally binge watching your series. Test Drove my friends prius and a corolla hibrid from the dealership(UK) they are really good cars for city driving. Managed 62 mpg 50% City(30 mph limit) 50% highway(70 mph limit). It was faster off the line than my current car(Opel astra 1.6 gasoline) I'm calling the dealership today to reserve the estate(touring sports) model for our young family. Keep up with the good work!
Love my new Venza. Am getting 45-46 mpg with mixed driving. Previously had a Ford Fusion hybrid that got 49 mpg. We spent less money on the Fusion than any other car I've owned. My sister has it now and loves it. I test drove a nonhybrid Rav4 and couldn't get over the weird noises. Ha.
I truly believe this technology is the future, Toyota can and will improve on what is already the best. It’s the most reliable set up as far as using battery technology, the best of both worlds and we keep everybody working…battery dies and your not stranded…please let’s use our common sense and get these more technologically advanced, before EV. Great video! Really appreciate your honesty!! 🎉🍻
I’ve never had a hybrid car before and I’ve never thought I would ever buy one, but I bought a Toyota Prius and I really love it, once my parents saw it and knew how it worked and test drove it they traded their Subaru Forester for a 2021 Toyota Prius AWD-e and they love the thing
I had a 2003 Prius. I had to replace the battery, obtained from a Toyota salvage yard for $175, with 12 month warranty. Toyota showroom service guy asked me to bring it in when I was done to connect to the computer to clear the fault codes. For $50 for 15 min he generously extended the Toyota warranty as if the shop had done the repair. That's as as beautiful as beautiful as it gets dude. Just like you. Your technique in the time lapse is automotive repair ballet. Your extremely concise teaching style is worthy of complement and is associated with a great mind on a journey of passion. Thank you.
I have been waiting for your wisdom on Toyota Hybrid cars. Thank you so much. I am a proud owner of a 2021 Toyota Corolla Hybrid LE. It was the BEST purchase I ever made!
@@TheRealHungryJoe I highly recommend you get one. No regarding it here. I paid $20,600 out the door price on it. Brand new. 11 miles on it. 100% made in Japan.
I bought a '22 Prius-P 3 months ago and everything you said is what works perfect for me. 120V slow easy charge to 80% should have this battery lasting a long time. I still have a quarter tank of fuel left from the dealer. Thanks AMD!
Same here 22’ prime, amazing little vehicle, quick enough up to 45 with a full charge, handles well, amazing tech/safety features - truly a high performance car (if you consider over 100mph the criteria for high-performance….)
Man I love your channel. You’ve helped me out a ton with my 2010 Camry v6 and I’m really thinking about getting a hybrid in the near future. I commute 80 miles for work 4 days a week and I was thinking I should get the plug in hybrid but after watching this video I will get a regular hybrid. If I could charge at work I guess it would be worth it but that’s not the case. Thank you for all the videos. I also showed my brother-in-law how to clean the fan filter on his 2016 hybrid today thanks to you Keep up the good work

I’ve been watching videos, reading and so on. So far the best content on the internet for hybrids. 🙏 thanks
Just bought a 2022 Venza the regenerative breaking and the engine turn-on are not noticeable. So far been ultra-impressed with this car! Great video learned a lot as a first-time hybrid owner.
I'm driving my second Camry hybrid. I have had no problems whats so ever. My 2020 Camry gets over 50 miles per gallon. Also great performance, good acceleration. A very solid car.
My husband has the xse model and rices it like a race car. He gets 34-36 mpg. He drives in Norma mode. I drive a Prius and get 52-57mpg in Eco mode. I want to drive his I. Eco mode to see if I could get 50pmg
I bought my first hybrid, 2022 Corolla Hybrid base model, absolutely love it. Great value, nice car, I live in an apartment building, the hybrid provides the best option as I don’t have the ability to plug in an EV. I enjoy your videos, very informative and fun to watch. Toyota is definitely the leader in hybrid technology. The CVT design is brilliant.
AMD, Thanks for the series. Great videos!! Love my 2019 Rav4 hybrid. Just had my 60k service done. Still drives like the day I purchased. I can't agree more about the hybrid air filter. Travel a lot with my fur baby, and dog hair would have killed my battery. Replaced it 2 times, cheap and easy to do, and I am not a dyi repair person, dealer does all my work recommended work . Thank you for this informative channel.
I've had a Prius Prime since last November and it is a great car for us. We've put 27,000 km on it so far and are really appreciating the low fuel costs. You have to drive it like an old man, but I've been driving like that for years now.
I recently purchased an RX450H 2021 Lexus hybrid I love it. it takes some doing to drive it to get the full benefit of the hybrid power train but I get 35 mpg and I have owned and driven about 11 toyotas and have always maintained them and I have had no issues with any of them. I hear the Lexus is a highly reliable car, and being a toyota i believe it. I have gotten used to the difference in driving technique. This hybrid system is to me a better solution to EV's vas Gas power. But that is just my opinion.
I’ve had my Lexus hybrid for several years now and the only thing it required since ownership were new tires change and oil changes, which I can do on my own. It uses 87 octane and drives really nice.
🤓So many misconceptions about hybrids out there, so thanks for making this video! I’ve had my 2021 Sienna Limited AWD hybrid for almost a year. It has truly passed all my expectations I had. I frickin’ L O V E this thing!! I don’t find it slow. I switch to Sport (power) mode to merge onto freeways, pass cars, climb steep hills…no problem. Eco mode in town. Last summer, I averaged over 40 MPGs per tank!! In colder months, 35 MPGs. I drive in town 90% of the time, highway 10%. Unbelievable. ❤️🔥 Before the Sienna, I drove 3 different Acura cars for 25 years. I have a lead foot and was afraid I’d be somebody that wouldn’t get good mileage from a hybrid, but I had fun with that first tank of gas…learning how to use the hybrid efficiently was easy. Mostly, don’t take off from a stop like you’re racing, and take your foot off the gas earlier when you see a red light ahead. That first tank went 621 miles and averaged 41 MPGs, and still had two gallons left! You’re right…probably not the car for everyone, but anyone can learn a couple simple ways to maximize mileage. 👍change oil every 5K, maintain tire pressure, and check those battery fan filters every few months.
I LOVE the new Sienna's!! So I'd own a hybrid & I have no USE for a van! I really think the nite shade Siennas rock!! Love the shape/love the taIl lights. Great choice! So enjoy!
got my 2022 AWD. That rear motor really helps to boost the MPG. It helps charge up the battery quickly. I owned a 2010 Prius C and it takes longer to charge up the battery because that is only FWD. Tesla should be worried when Toyota really focuses on making plug in or EV. The quality, fit and finish, reliability are far better than Tesla. can't way for Toyota to push plug in on every hybrid model, that will be a game changer. 50 mile EV range and 600 miles plugs for a full tank of gas in hybrid mode. you get the best for both worlds.
I've considered getting the Sienna as a replacement for my 2006 HH because it has more interior space. Or, it seems that way to me. 40 MPG? That would seal the deal....well, if I could get one with the current auto availability situation.
@@tharais try to shop around and wait for a good deal. don't overpay like I did because I need a van for the family to travel regularly each two weeks. highway is around 32mpg to 35mpg with AC on (80 miles/h) , depending on how fast you are driving. will get better MPG in around 65 or 70 miles/hlocal is around 35 to 45mpg, depending on the traffic. try to get the AWD version, it actually boosts the MPG for local driving because it helps to stop the vehicle and charge the battery.
@@tharais Honestly, if you want it and can afford it, just get it. You’ll likely drive it forever, and I fully expect this inflationary spiral we’re in to produce significant increases in future MSRPs. I paid MSRP for our 2021 Highlander Hybrid and MSRP + $2000 for our 2022 Venza. But as I said, I expect future MSRPs to go higher, and I’m delighted with our vehicles.
Love my 2021 Highlander hybrid. Been using eco setting. If I need to accelerate faster I simply step harder on the pedal. Consistently been getting over 40mpg.
Thanks AMD, I bought the 2022 camry hybrid a few weeks ago and I never felt this confident buying a car. My family and extended family have a tradition where we trade in the car that's the oldest or with the most problems in our "fleet" and pass down the one we currently have so I never felt like a car was my baby until now. I never thought I'd get excited when the maintenance interval nears
Wish some had told me @3:22 I would have waited and bought my Highlander in 2020 as a hybrid. I only heard “you’ll replace the battery one day before 10 years and lose all that fuel savings” my car was a 2016 so I bought the non-hybrid. Now I know better, thanks. Next car will be a hybrid.
Agree. I bought a new 2013 Prius for my 80 mile daily round trip commute. We drove it all the time. I sold it when I retired with 170,000 trouble free miles.
Thanks for another great video, AMD. We’re putting down a deposit on a 2022 Sienna rather than getting a CPO Odyssey, thanks to your channel. Always envy your epoxy floor, too. Grace and peace to your and Mrs. CCN.
I drive a 2016 Camary which I bought new. Retired 3 years ago and just came out of retirement, accepted a job as a medical courier in the Antelope Valley. I logged 2,051 miles my 1st month, 57.2 gallons of gas at a average of $6.21 per gallon for a total of $355.64 my average miles per gallon is 35.856 mpg. Have been very happy with my very dependable Camary and everything you said is true , thanks for sharing all your knowledge.
I have a rental 2022 Toyota Yaris hybrid and I must say I am really impressed! The whine it makes is satisfying and it got 56mpg without me driving conservatively!
Well said… very accurate… I’m using a Toyota Axio 2017 JDM model for two years and it was used by a Japanese previous owner, It gives me more then expected mileage as I am using like hybrid friendly cars. I agree 100 with you…
Wow, excellent presentation. After having 6-cylinder Toyota Siennas, every 3 years (leased) for many years, I had to try a Toyota Sienna Hybrid, since Toyota discontinued the 6-cylinder engine version. I must say, that I was pleasantly surprised with the performance of the Sienna. I expected low acceleration with only a 4 cylinder (hybrid) engine, but it actually had better acceleration than my old 6 cylinder version. And now, after having it for 6 months, I am more pleased with this hybrid than I have ever been with any other 6 cylinder Sienna. I frequently get more than 40 mi/gal with my short drives to the mall and back. I am over 70 years old, and I am in no hurry to get from point A to point B, but I certainly don't have to fill the gas tank very often with this vehicle. Thanks for confirming my driving thoughts with this video.
I've just barely scraped my 30's and I find everything about a rav4 hybrid perfect -- I actually like the look, don't find the performance (of the test drive) or the interior features boring at all, plus its famed practicality and reliability. So excited to have found this channel to help me confirm that I did in fact make the right choice in ordering a 24 hybrid rav4
I have a 2006 lexus GS450H. It still runs great magical. 5 years ago had some cell's replaced and the battery rebalanced, and it runs problem free ever since. With the normal maintenance, this cars are absolutely brilliant. It's a daily used car, and it carries tools, as I am a carpenter. And just to contradict a bit regarding the "slow" part you've mentioned in the video, it might be right with Toyota, but it sure isn't the case with lexus 😁
CCN, this is a terrific video, explaining the mystery of Hybrids. And the very easy, simple things DIYers can do. I'm 70 YO, and without getting into the debate of Hybrids over PIEVs, I personally think Hybrids are the way to go for Now. More HP, More Torque, Better MPGs for the same non Hybrid vehicle (Toyotas, Hondas, Hyundais, etc.) for a small increment in the price ($1500-1800), is an Absolute No Brainer to me. There is way too Much of a RUSH to EVs. Notwithstanding the Climate Craziness, EVs, serve no purpose to Aparment dwellers (NYC Chicago, etc.), unless youi like to wait at Power stations. And go back to the Horror story of the late Fall surprise winter snow/ice stiorm in Virginia. Thosuands stranded on I-95 for over 24 hours in Freezing Temps. In an EV, you would be Sitting on that electro-magnetic emitting Battery for 24 hours and watching the battery drain as you sit there turning the heater on and off. yes, If you had little gas in the tank of your Hybris or gasoline powered car, the same anxiety would be experienced. But I would not "Fry" under the Lithium full car length battery. Changes form Fossil Fuels is a necessasy, no arguments there, but we should be taking Baby Steps until all aspects are investigated. CNN makes a late comment about the electrical power Grid... look at Texas with failed / Frozen Windmills .....Windmills in an Oil Town. Total power outage wreaks EV Anxiety.
2012 Prius the only issue in ten years 155000 miles was the inverter, Thanks to your channel I checked for the battery filter didn't have one I immediately order one and cleaned up the fan, then replaced then coolant, spark plugs, transmission oil, air filter, brake pads etc. Actually very easy.
I hope the inverter was under warranty or that you are very rich? Now you scare me and my 2013 with 167,000 trouble free miles, the best miles per gallon 45-55 mph?
Just got a 2022 Lexus NX 350h, & I am loving it! Used to drive an Acura ILX and wanted to move to a hybrid mid size SUV. Would have considered an RDX if they had a hybrid option. Thanks for this informative video. After watching it, I now know that I made the right choice for me.
Hello Mike, I have a 2021 LexusNX350H Limited Hybrid , I just love the car except for the fuel use. Lexus rate the car at 5.7 l/100 km. I log the useage and I get 6.9 l/100km, that correlates with the on board metering. Lexus say it is what it is and I am getting real life fuel useage??? I am a light footed driver use eco mode and maximize the Regen braking.so am not satisfied with their answer. They need to publish real life consumption. What do get for consumption?
@@noellaurence6267 I’m in Florida & we go by MPG (miles per gallon). I’m getting between 39 - 41 MPG on average. Not sure why you would be getting poor fuel consumption. Do you do a lot of highway driving? Fuel consumption is better in city driving.
All great points ... especially about the issue of going all-electric vs hybrid, imagine the strain on the grid with rolling blackouts when all EV at the same time and 18:29 Expensive paperweight. This jump in gas prices has everyone running out to get an EV but they may not have done their homework.
I have owned Toyota/Lexus hybrids for over a decade and my 2010 Prius is still my favorite. I must say however, the Lexus GS450h F-sport are truly hybrid performance and are exceptionally great and made different from all Toyota/Lexus hybrids. The one thing u did not mention is the hybrid instant torque(far better than turbo-diesel). Luv u show!!
One thing I really like you mentioned and I learned is the difference between EV and Hybrid. EV can’t run at all…. But hybrid will at least get me home! Like that!
I'm a newbie to hybrid cars/technology so this video was just what I needed to see before any others. Thanks for a very good presentation and covering all the bases - I'll share a link to this with friends
Hello Ahmed , as you know I just got my first Hybrid . A 2022 Venza. Absolutely love it . I love all the Hybrid noises it makes and the way it works. Have only use 2 tanks of fuel so far, averaged 45 mpg in combined driving . The one thing I worry about is heat, I live in Phoenix. It is always hot here. I will watch my hybrid filter with care !
I saw you on the video with Ray & Zack from Yaa. I'm a fan now and appreciate your video's not because of Yaa but because you are straight forward. Thank You
I have 2 hybrids. A Toyota Prius and a Ford Escape AWD using Toyota's Hybrid system. I like both. My gripe with both is that the battery is too small, they need to be able to go 10 miles or more, but not necessarily be plug in.
Ahmed, thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge. I have been subscribed to your channel since I bought my 2021 RAV4 Hybrid last year and I love both your channel and the car. Your series have educated me on the specifics of Toyota hybrids even though I have been familiar with how hybrids work for years. Your series on hybrids with your motto “Simple though Complicated” made me curious of the specifics of the MG1 and MG2 so much so that I looked and found the WeberAuto channel that actually demonstrates how the Toyota MG1 and MG2 assemblies function via a reassembly of the modules. For anyone who wants to dive in more into those specifics of the hybrid, that is a excellent source. Anyway, keep up the good work and looking forward to more videos from you.
2010 Lexus HS 250h. I bought it used in 2012 and have over 124,000 miles on it. I’ve had no issues with the battery. Now, I’m researching the plug in Hybrids. Thanks for your video!
Good info! We just purchased a Lexus RX-450h a few months ago. Still getting used to it but overall we are very happy with it. Not quite as sporty as I would like but the wife loves it. The F-Sport package makes it look and drive a little better though. Personally I like the alien noises. LOL Thanks again!
Men you are the best, thank you for taking the time to clearly explain the pros and cons.. by the way I love my rav4 hybrid🥰 40mpg with todays gas price, can't complaint!! BY THE WAY, When I heard the hybrid noises, I just think about gas prices and feel happy🤣🤣🤣
I bought a RAV4 prime last May. I traded in my 2019 RAV4 Hybrid for it. I loved the Hybrid, but I really love the New plug in hybrid so much more. I live in the Chicago area and drive mostly in EV mode. I have a second home in Northern Wisconsin Where I go about 4 or 5 times a year; To get there I drive in Hybrid mode. The community I live in has several EV charging station that are free at the moment, and there are not too many people with electric vehicles around so I rarely have trouble finding an open charging space.
I just bought a 22 Camry LE Hybrid. I am about 70% highway and 30% city. I drive roughly 400 miles a week for just commuting to work. I am getting 48.5 MPG with typically 70 MPH highway driving. The car is moderately powerful, comfy, quiet, has nice base features, and is a decent size.
Great content as always. Owner of two Lexus hybrids here (06 RX400h and 17 RX450H). Both cars have been 100% reliable. My 2006 has 170k miles and has had exactly $400 out of pocket repairs since new and runs like new.
Yeah I plan to get the new NX350H for my wife next year and my soon will take her 09 RX350 when he get his license. Then I plan to get the LC500H to replace my 17 ES350 when my son goes to college. I don’t need a 4 door anymore and I still miss my SC400 after all these years.
@@nancywheeler8359 Would love to get your opinions on the 300ESH and 500LSh. Hows the maintenance, what should i be aware of in regards to gas, and if you could do it again would you get a hybrid again?
@@jml9550 Would love to get your opinions on the 300ESH and 500LSh. Hows the maintenance, what should i be aware of in regards to gas, and if you could do it again would you get a hybrid again?
@@iinrodwetrust I can only speak in terms of the NX350h, which should be very similar to the ES300h as it shares the same hybrid power train. My wife loves her NX hybrid, besides oil change, there is only a few items that needs attention such as hybrid battery fan filter, eCVT fluid which won’t need every 30k miles, the usual brake fluid and coolants every few years. I would buy a hybrid again. MPG is good at almost 40, ride is relatively quiet. In fact I am waiting for the next generation ES hybrid which should be a 2025 model. I would most likely buy a 2026 model since I usually don’t buy the first model after a new design. BTW you can put regular gas if you choose to, I put in premium 91 gas only since my wife drives 6-7k miles per year, so it is no big deal in terms of gas money.
I absolutely agree with everything. Being a user of a Prius 2010 up until last year I had all kinds of problems with that car, including a battery swap not covered by the warranty after about 8 years ( I bought it used the year before it failed btw 💀 🔫). I learned the hard way a lot of stuff on hybrids during that period (including I bought the very worst year model) but I still enjoyed that car very much and I’d buy another hybrid anyway, if the wallet allows. Having moved back to my home country in Italy after 17 years in North America, I found Renault makes here very affordable and excellent hybrids, plug-ins and EVs too. I will considerate both Toyota and Renault for a future car.
This was an awesome video on hybrids! I’m very interested in getting a hybrid whenever I think about getting a new vehicle. And I agree that if I were to get a hybrid it would have to be a Toyota or a Lexus. I’m still in love with my Lexus that I’ve had for almost 12 years!❤️❤️
I appreciate how direct you are. I’m a Toyota guy drives my wife crazy sometimes, it feels limiting to her but I tell her so get a Lexus instead. Thank you for all the info.
I believe that there is also less stress on suspension and other parts of the front end due to the hybrid braking process. The energy of stopping a hybrid car is primarily stored in the hybrid battery and not expended on wearing out parts. I love all my hybrids cars (Prius, Camry and RAV4). Now that gas is approaching $5/gallon, more people are looking at my hybrid cars.
Great advice i was torn between hybrid vs phev. For me the explanation of both and the advice as to why and which to choose is top notch. You rarely see see the why and why not explained. i drive (since day 1) a 17 year old Mondeo Zetec which has been wonderfully reliable. However it's time to move on. Toyota hybrid for me. I hope my new car will be as reliable as my 17 year old!! Thanks for an excellent video. Mary
When I purchase a car I look at the total cost of ownership (TCO). I bought a new 2010 Prius and the TCO is extremely low. I have 171K miles and still get 48 mpg. During my last oil service it was noted that the front brake pads still have 5mm remaining. The rear pads have 8mm remaining. I have never had them replaced. This is one of the benefits of a hybrid, the regenerative braking. Hybrids rock.
My '21 Toyota Sienna XLE is sorta solar powered in the winter. When I'm driving during a cold night (less than 15*F), the engine has to run a lot more frequently to keep cabin warm. During the daylight at those temps, I get enough solar gain in cabin temperature that the engine doesn't run as frequently. It's a 3-4 MPG difference.
I’d take it on a test drive and get it straight to a Toyota Dealership. Since they always check my battery during the yearly service, they surely offer this battery check to non-customers as well (for a reasonable price)
I bought a 2021 Prius and I absolutely love it. I really don’t hear any strange noises. I am getting around 57 mikes per gallon in this freezing cold weather, but last summer I was getting 67 mpg. I never thought about the electric grid and the electric cars, but you are so right. How is the infrastructure going to handle it? Thanks for making such great informative videos.
Only your Prius gets a better gas mileage than my Camry hybrid. After 18 months I am "stuck" at an average of 54 mpg's with conservative driving. My family doesn't like the looks of the Prius at all, otherwise that would have been my choice!
We have a 2011 and the only repair we have ever done is the 12 volt (regular) battery. It drives exactly the same as it did when new and gets 53 mpg on the highway. It was about $22,000. What a great value. My only problem with it is the low front end. It is very easy to scrape.
Infrastructure is a straw man argument. As and when more electric cars are bought, the electricity companies will expand their capacity to produce as well. Supply and Demand. Don’t agree with this argument.
2021 venza, im a field scout, i drive around orchards. it handles dirt roads and mud perfectly. im getting 525 miles a tank. all i can say is i love it. it drives and handles better then a lot of cars/trucks/suvs ive owned. i actually like the "angels singing" it does when in ev mode 24mph or slower.
Thank you. That was, by far, the most informative auto video I have seen in years, maybe ever. You covered every major topic so well, without talking down to your audience. May you enjoy years of continued success.
Love your videos, super informative. I bought a 2022 NX350h as my first hybrid vehicle. Since you mentioned hybrids require extra care with its batteries, I actually have 2 quick questions that I was hoping you could help explain: 1. Is it possible to trickle charge it if I’m traveling? If so, how do I do that? 2. If a jump start is required for my hybrid (understand from your other vids that I shouldn’t jump start other vehicles with a hybrid) - how do I jump start my car? Thank you in advance!
You mean trickle charging the 12v or the Traction Battery? ECU does it automatically as you drive for both. If prolonged parking time is needed, run it at least a few minutes every two weeks. For jumping the car, follow the instructions in the manual. It's not that different from regular cars.
Thanks for this video, a great explanation of the details. I have a 2012 Prius Plug-in and we use that in the low mileage vehicle category. A lot of places we go are well within the 13 mile EV range. Our second car is a Kia Sorento Hybrid. I hear you, that Toyota hybrids are the originals, but I am hoping Kia has done it’s homework and our Sorento proves to be reliable. I just couldn’t go the EV route yet, even with the current price of gas. Too much range anxiety for me or my family at this point.
Agree I think it’s cool!
Agree. Love the motor whine. EV's whine pitch is too high for me, hybrid's whine feels better and gives a high tech feeling.
He retired a couple years later because more and more people were bringing Hondas/Toyotas in and he couldn't keep up with the technology of those vehicles.
white noise are added as many people have been run over not being able to hear the vehicle
This is exactly what I needed to know. People around me are screaming about EVs’ but I like the option of hybrids but worried about the maintenance cost. Now I feel better about getting a hybrid for my lifestyle. I don’t want range anxiety or to worry about towing heavy items without losing power or mileage.
Have owned many Toyota hybrids! The ABSOLUTE BEST! Buy, BUY, BUY!
Toyota owes you a commission! I bought a 2022 RAV4 XLE Hybrid after watching your videos. I only found your channel after starting my car shopping. Even though I've got the car, I still keep watching your feed! Great info always.
“If you want to buy an ultimate driving machine, and the ultimate empty your bank account, buy a BMW.” I laughed so hard at that. 😂
Not the same feel as a Toyota
Had a Bmw 330 amazing feeling… until after the 8th year and it started to ask for parts! Just bought my first Hybrid and I am loving it! Lexus ES300H
Gee, how could you miss Mercedes and Porsche; all money pits designed for the rich!
If you worry about your bank account then you shouldn't buy BMW 😂😂

The fact that this man has a the new sienna hybrid in his garage make me feel I make the right choice pre ordering the new 2022 Sienna , thanks you
A minivan getting close to 40 mpg with conservative driving...that's just great if not hilarious!
My 2006 Lexus RX400H just went over 219,000 miles. It’s my daily driver and I’ve never had a problem with the hybrid system or the battery.
My 2008 RX400h is on 80,000 miles and she goes as good as new.
Wow that’s insane. Comments like these really helped me decide going for the Rav4 hybrid.
I got 26mpg from mine, not too good nowadays.
I know it works like it in GS 450h. Does it work like that in RX400h?
@@impact0rall Toyota hybrids work like that.
Toyota has been perfecting hybrid tech for decades. Trust the best.
@@sly9263 I got 73.1 MPG today on a 10 mile trip back from the store, without even trying. warmer weather definitely helps.
Just got 90 MPG, yes, ninety, on our 2019 Prius Prime after a four-hour trip to Oregon from Washington state.
I have been Happy with my camry hybrid 2018. People laughed when i bought it in middle east but now with increasing gas prices, people appreciate my decision. Your videos are great wisdom. Please keep up the great work. Kudos to the car care nut.

Just took delivery of my 2022 Venza. Couldn't be more pleased. Thanks for making this an easy choice....your vids have been invaluable.
@@josejose2100, Thanks for replying with the helpful information.
I'm looking to buy a 22 Corolla Hybrid. How much did you pay for your Corolla Hybrid?

We are still using our 2007 Lexus RX400h with 139,000 miles, near daily. Thanks for your advice to keep it active. So far, it is flawless.
Thank you!
My 2007 RX400H still works great, same battery, 174k miles.
I swear, you've got the best automobile maintenance channel on RUclips. Keep it up!
I bought my first Prius in 2006 and Prius V in 2014. I just got my Lexus UX 250h. Smooth and quiet drive.
The Camry hybrid is my dream car. I will wait until 2024-25 to buy it cause I wanna wait on the redesign

Not cvt. Ecvt. Which isn’t comparable to a cvt.
AMD, Thanks for the series. Great videos!! Love my 2019 Rav4 hybrid. Just had my 60k service done. Still drives like the day I purchased. I can't agree more about the hybrid air filter. I als have a 2019 RAV4 Hybrid, love it. 25k km on it. Drives like a charm.
I want a Navy blue one with the brown leather.
Nice
Before the Sienna, I drove 3 different Acura cars for 25 years.

Honestly, if you want it and can afford it, just get it. You’ll likely drive it forever, and I fully expect this inflationary spiral we’re in to produce significant increases in future MSRPs.
The Prius is still the king of all hybrids. Excited for the upcoming Gen 5.

Like that!
These are the best Toyota overviews. I bought a Rav4 Hybrid because of his overviews. Excellent
After seeing your video I’m glad I have a ‘22 se hybrid, yours is your daily driver so is mine. Great channel and easy to understand terms
I saw you on the video with Ray & Zack from Yaa. I'm a fan now and appreciate your video's not because of Yaa but because you are straight forward. Thank You
Honest and informative. Thank you
I have 2 hybrids. A Toyota Prius and a Ford Escape AWD using Toyota's Hybrid system. I like both. My gripe with both is that the battery is too small, they need to be able to go 10 miles or more, but not necessarily be plug in.
The new Ford Escape Hybrid uses Toyota’s hybrid system?
@@chosenone773 Yes it does. Ford sold Toyota info on the F150 for their new Tundra and Ford got their Hybrid system. A fair trade, not so sure.
@@bobd7384 that was a good trade
YES! Isnt his channel fascinating TOO! I STILL have tons to learn, & I'M A SENIOR! 😁 Good luck with ur hybrid!🖖
Thank you.
2010 Lexus HS 250h. I bought it used in 2012 and have over 124,000 miles on it. I’ve had no issues with the battery. Now, I’m researching the plug in Hybrids.
Thanks for your video!
man, you have proven to be a real encyclopedia. thanks for everything
I drive a ‘16. Wish I had your trade in or your new one! Hybrid lover in Va.
I’ve had a 2021 Hybrid Camry SE since last summer. Only 8500k miles so far. Hoping to keep it going as long as I can.
Really! Only $400! Do you do it yourself? Every time I take my ES300h to the dealer they charge anywhere between 500-1000$
@@nancywheeler8359 Would love to get your opinions on the 300ESH and 500LSh.
I’m still in love with my Lexus that I’ve had for almost 12 years!❤️❤️
I bought a 08 Civic Hybrid like 1 year ago for 5 thousand. Only had 120,000 miles on it. It's been a dream.
I’m happy with my 2016 Prius I get is 45mpg the video is truly everything you need to know about hybrid car really educated thank you.
There is no difference to the suspension in braking with hybrid regen vs pads.
Mary
I am really encouraged that this mechanic who makes so many videos about car care and reliability drives the exact same car I'm buying 🤣
This guy is a genius 100%, thank you for your material. I have learned so much from you.
When buying a used hybrid how do you check to make sure the batteries are ok???
@@lindap.p.1337
Since you mentioned hybrids require extra care with its batteries, I actually have 2 quick questions that I was hoping you could help explain:
Too much range anxiety for me or my
family at this point.
