If people took care of their cars like this from new, they would last a lot longer. I often see old guys here in Sweden (many previous Volvo mechanics) that drive old Volvo S60:s, S80:s, V70:s, etc that they bought new, and even though they are 15-20 years old and have high miles, they look absolutely perfect. I’ll say one thing about the OEM wiper blade refills. I have a Honda Accord and used to be one of those guys that would buy the $50 wiper blade replacements at the auto parts stores when it was time to replace my wipers. Great video as usual. Only thing I will disagree about is the 5k or "every 6 months" on an oil change. I manufacture additives and viscosity modifiers used by all the big oil companies around the world. I assure you oil sitting in a pan does not go bad in 6 months. On average it actually takes about 5 years for any kind of separation or gelling to occur. Sure oil is cheap, but no need to be wasteful. I have more cars than any normal person should honestly so they often take a few years to rack up 5k miles. Its your car so there is no wrong answer, I just dont want people thinking you HAVE to actually follow that recommendation. It exists only to keep money flowing to the oil giants.

I immediately changed the oil with AMS oil plus Napa Platinum oil filter. The oil smell heavy with gas and look dirty! The oil had lots of break in materials in it. Thank you for the advice. Now I am going to change the oil every 6 months regardless of miles because I don’t drive much.

Rattles are not as frequent as they used to be, in my experience. I never go over 6 months on an oil regardless of the miles I put on. We can't go 10,000 miles between oil changes in North Dakota. It can get negative 30 below zero in the winter. Toyota dealer here says 10,000 mile changes are just fine. Thanks for telling it like it is.

Thanks for sharing your experience with your Japan built Camry. I wish more people would see a comment posted months after the video was first posted. Last year Automotive News reported that Toyota announced they would accept sightly lower standards of fit and finish from their part suppliers to keep production going during the current supply chain crisis. If Toyota is doing it than everybody is doing it. All in all, I am amazed by how many cars they have been able to build since 2020. We all hope the flexibility in standards is temporary. My Toyota was built in California, USA 18 years ago. The fit and finish is exemplary and the reliability has been top notch throughout the years.. I expect you are familiar with the old saying -

This year, I decided that if I go with one, it would have to be a brand that had been in the hybrid biz for awhile. Toyota and Honda were the two that rose to the top. I've had zero regrets over the purchase, so far. It's been smooth, efficient, and handles better than I expected. Getting low 50s for fuel economy has been almost three times what I had before.

My prius 2007 at 243,000 miles from prior owner never changed the fluid and I still did and it didn't mess up like a automatic which would of broke with changing old fluid. My mom has a 2020 RAV4 XSE Hybrid that I occasionally drive and I agree with you. It's a great car, drives well, and is very comfortable to drive in. But one thing I've noted was the build quality (or lack thereof) of the exterior parts. The doors are super light so they swing open and close really easily, but that also translates to rattles every time you close the door. And being a 2020 model RAV4, there was a TSB issue with the side mirrors shaking at speed. We since had it repaired but the driver's side mirror still seems to be shaking a bit. The hood and fuel doors, like the main doors, are super light so it feels like I could easily bend them when I close them, especially the hood since you have to slam it down to properly close it or the latch doesn't engage properly. The wind noise is also very apparent when driving on the highway but that's something we kind of gotten used to.
Despite all of that, I think the car overall is still a great car. I really like how smooth the transition from electric to gas is with the eCVT and we still get pretty good gas mileage for such a big car (36-37 MPG on average). I'm also glad that they decided to open up to supporting both Android Auto and Apple Carplay this generation. I know it was a hit and miss with many car manufacturers in the previous few generations, either supporting Android Auto or Apple Carplay, but not both.
It's too bad that the AWD Corolla Hybrid didn't come out until this year, otherwise that would have been my pick for myself. lol Unfortunately, I had already gotten a new car last year. :(

OK, I never thought about the horrible duty cycle of the hybrid engine, you make an excellent point. All the start/stop/cold running would dilute the engine oil in a hurry. I am like you, the slightest ratttles/squeaks drive me crazy. My 09 camry came with a few rattles/squeaks since new, something sounds like a loose wiper bottle, and the center console cover rattles/buzzes. Generally speaking, I think the build quality/quality of materials dropped a great deal on this car compared to my 99 Solara. The erratic idle has driven me nuts since new as well.
It is like you say, a good visual inspection is worth a great deal, best way to catch little issues before they develop into major problems. I would actually really like to see what you end up doing for the rattles in your camry if that isn't too much of a hassle. I'm sure plenty of people would be curious to see what a great mechanic does to fix something like that because in my own cars it seems a bit daunting to try to chase rattles.

Your comments regarding panel gap around the headlights are spot-on. In 2007 I was selling Toyota, and then the brand was so prideful a tactic we would use is to take our business card and ask them to choose a panel gap on the car (any one), mark it on the card and have them compare the caps around the vehicle - then suggest them try the same at a competitor. Doesn't look like this will work any longer, and that makes me sad. And, now I have to go look at my '21 4Runner's (Lunar Rock!) headlight gaps... Thanks for all your videos!!!

We picked up a corolla two weeks ago and I can't say it has any issues at all with panels. Maybe because it was made in Japan?

I'd love to see more plugin hybrids. My use case doesn't really fit either pure hybrid or pure EV, because I have garaged access to charging, lots of short local trips well within small battery range, and periodic long out of town trips, often in harsh winter weather, that are really too long for comfortable on-the-road charging, and not really a lot of the kind of use in between where full EVs really excel. But still, we've only the Prius, which seems to be completely out of stock having been incredibly attractively priced just a year ago, and the RAV4 which is a bit too big for me. Would have loved to see GM update the Volt; now this really does seem to be Toyota's market, so hoping to see a new Prius, Corolla or Camry in this segment.

Nice video. Love my 2019 Camry SE Hybrid (convenient upgrade). 60.1 MPG. I also had what I thought was a rattle in the dashboard. It ended up being the plastic housing (camera) behind the review mirror. It might be a little loose and will rattle. GL.

60.1 MPG converts to 3.914 litres/hundred kilometres! My Hybrid Camry SX will arrive in December & I'll let you know if I'm able to achieve that sort of economy!!

Own a 2020 Camry Hybird LE. I am the one and only owner of this car. Mileage goes down in the cold weather. I commute 84 miles a day round trip . My local dealer Charles Toyota has handled all the work on this car all of it's life. Not too quirky. Dependable but then again it is a new Toyota vehicle. Wish I could have gotten a little better trim level as far as seats etc but it serves me well. Need to change a couple of filters: Cabin and battery fan ones at some point in time. I am thinking with the batteries being run almost every day for a fair amount my battery life will last longer (over 100k or greater) . Time will tell. Nice to have a local dealer with all the records because I will say my next vehicle will be a toyota and will be probably purchased from the same dealer. Happy customer. Thank you for your videos.

I bought a 2022 Toyota Camry SE Nightshade back in July and really like the car so far. I concur with the slight rattles that happen...I've driven over a few gravelly roads that might have loosened up a few things but it's not horrible. I guess that would be the difference between Toyota and Lexus. I definitely took your recommendations on Toyota Hybrids and decided on a Camry Hybrid. Only slight dissatisfactions are: 1) I have is that I don't get the guided curved lines on the backup camera when I'm turning the steering wheel. I thought SE trims had that feature but oh well...I always turn my head to backup anyways. 2) Didn't come with BSM/RCTA either which kind of stinks. Otherwise Camry hybrids are very nice vehicles along with any Toyota hybrid.

I bought my 2019 Camry XSE new. Almost 4 yrs. and 30k miles later I've experienced no dash rattles but have experienced the following:
Driver side mirror vibrates badly when driving on the highway.
Driver's window squeaks and jumps when being raised after rain or car wash (My 2014 Corolla did the same thing)
When backing up slowly and applying the brakes, a popping noise can be heard from the rear of the car. ( Dealer said this was normal. Uh-huh.)
Other than those minor things, It's been a great car, plus it's beautiful to look at, so that doesn't hurt lol

If it's anything like in Australia,
Only the base model is non-hybrid, every other model is Hybrid.
So maybe he wanted more features in the car?

Over 10 years ago, I bought a 2012 Camry Hybrid LXE with 45K miles on it. I've changed the oil every 5K using Mobil One 0W-20 along with a new filter. The car now has 256K on it and is still going strong. At over 200K, I replaced the hybrid battery myself with a rebuilt unit (3 yr warranty). The car is still running the original brake pads and rotors because I'm gentle on the brakes, which apparently uses a lot of regen to slow the car. All in all, I LOVE my Camry Hybrid. By far, the best car I've ever owned. I'm retiring soon and will be purchasing a lightly used Lexus ES300h Hybrid. Toyota Hybrid technology is fantastic. It's uber-reliable, provides great gas mileage for every mile you drive and darn near seamless during the driving experience. I highly recommend!
