I'm sorry, I covered writing at a desktop or laptop instead of handwriting! I think that's what you're asking. But you can apply all these same principles to writing at a desk as well! You obviously have to look down as the paper is on the desk, but all my other tips from the shoulders down to the feet still apply. Hope that helps! :)
@@ImpulsoCreativo9322 writing on a slight incline like a wedge or extra stack of something can help, but that is unfortunately unavoidable. You can help any neck pain by taking breaks to look up and do stretches. I have two videos for stretches, one specifically for the neck, that will help!
Sometimes I hook up TWO keyboards to my computer and spread/tilt them for the most relaxed hand position while my shoulders are opened up as well. I also switched to inexpensive mechanical keyboards, which make it a lot less effort to type than my previous rubber-dome keyboard. If I could do it again, I would make sure that I used keyboards without the number pad so that my mouse isn't so far to one side. It felt weird at first, then fun, then normal.
I imagine that every person who watches this video did the same thing I did. Totally adjusted my posture as you tell me don't slouch or cross my legs are bend my wrists. I will for at least the next few minutes have a good ergonomic posture. At my office for my job, I have an adjustable desk that I can use sitting or standing. I have tried to work standing and I just can't focus enough to do it. I spend the whole time thinking I should be sitting down. I combat that by I use my Fitbit to tell me when its time to get up and move and that works really well for me. I will go get coffee or water or whatever.
Ahh that's awesome you can stand if you choose to at work. Thankfully I have that option at work as well, but I'd love a standing desk for home or something. And my Fitbit is a lifesaver with reminding me to get in my steps and actually, like, move. lol
This is so incredibly helpful. Considering I've accidentally stopped going to physical therapy, I hope this helps my back and hips on some level. (Definitely going to get back into it, though. Cuz wow RIP my body.)
My posture is the worst, always. I need to add yoga to my life and these tips, but it's hard when you have to sit 8-12 hours of the day. I tried a standing desk and my knees and feet hurt a bit, maybe they'd eventually get used to it? My wrists are awful, and my low back is so tight right now- I think from trying to hold my baby, I arch my back a bunch to support his weight >_< Thanks for the tips! I need to do the stretches in your stretch video too.
Yeah, standing desks help but I could only stand for so long! It does take some getting used to though to increase endurance and standing tolerance. And definitely trying to have good posture while holding a baby is hard too! Hope you start feeling better!
WriteHollyDavis thanks! Ya, I used to have a standing/walking job & it took a week or so to get used to that (oh the pain!), but that ended up being a great workout haha.
I can't have my feet flat on floor while sitting, cuz my feet turn purple and ache somedays. So I got used to having them propped up on an ottoman. Ugh. Though, I do prefer standing desks, but can't do that everyday, sadly. Anyway, thanks for the vid. :D
Ooph, that doesn't sound comfortable! But yes, standing desks are even better! It's nice to have the option to sit or stand because I can't do either for too long.
You're taking away the spirit of being a writer! And for what?!?! The preservation of bodies? BAH! I write in my bed sitting cross legged in a position I can only call "The Gollum" (the very same position with which I'm typing this comment).
I totally hunch forward and need to check my wrist angle. I Also sometimes prop my feet up so that my legs are straight. Thanks for the tips!
Hope they help!
This video kinda saved my life, since I'm young and my posture is already bad. Thank you for the tips
Yay, I'm happy to help!
Great video! Loved how you got into detail. Very practical compared to some of these other older videos - especially as a writer/creative. Thanks!
Thanks! Glad you found this helpful. :)
Fun fact - until I watched this video, I didn't realize my posture while writing is basically garbage. This is awesome, Holly.
Yay, I'm glad to help! And this is your friendly reminder to check your posture right now. lol!
what about writing at a desk?? that's what I was looking for, but you didn't go over how to keep up when writing?? That was your title

@@WriteHollyDavis its the looking down that bothers me. Howto mjnimize it?l

@@WriteHollyDavis this helps a lot, as I clicked for handwriting as well!
@@trejonb1383 Awesome, glad you found it helpful!
Great video, Holly. I have terrible posture, and need to think about it more often!
Don't worry, I need to remind myself often, too. ;)

Ooh, I like that, never would've thought to use two keyboards! I love my mechanical keyboard and the click clack. Ha ha
I have been in quarantine too long to be here.
Lolol welcome to the dark side. 😅
Thanks for excellent video, love from India ♥️♥️
Thanks for watching!

Aw, sorry to hear you've got aches and pains too! Definitely go back to therapy. ;) Hope you feel better!

What about on a phone?
You should hold it up to eye level and still sit with the same good posture. Ideally you wouldn't be on your phone too long!

Ouch, that can't feel good. :P I'll see you in therapy later. XD
