In yoga moving and settling into the Asana (the poses) is initiated from the spine towards the outer ends of the body, and there is emphasis on the correct anatomical alignment in order to support and relax the spine. Most of the health benefits linked to yoga poses come forth from having full mobility in the spine and experiencing decreased stress on the central nervous system within the spine. To all the people struggling with improving posture. Work on your mind too. Change the moods you are in every day. The mental state you are in effects your posture. And another tip is to look into the Alexander technique. You cant simply force your body into a better posture. It may look better and feel a bit better for a bit, but it actually isnt better.
@@jongonzalez1677 Posting muscles arent under our direct control. When you use force and tension and stress, then you are using the wrong muscles. The goal is to achieve a good posture, without feeling that tension.
So today I was walking with my friends through the city and we did this game that every time my posture bended, even a little she screamed: STAND RIGHT SOLDIER. So I corrected my posture. It felt very awkward at first because it felt like I made myself bigger than I actually was but it's interesting how after a while I actually started to feel more empowered and confident. In psychology this term is called embodiment and it works.
I have heard for years that I need to have better posture, but I don't think anyone realizes how hard it is for someone 6'3 to maintain posture. I have to look down towards everything, not just electronics. People, signs, counters, everything.
That exercise in the end is called "Surya Namaskar". In India, many people do it regularly at the time of sunrise. It is being practiced here for way earlier.
May i ask how it affected you? I find it very difficult myself to always stand and sit up straight, I really have to think about it all the time, so i am kinda worried about the consequences.
Well, mostly lower back pain which can get real bad if you are sitting all day. You can even get headaches from all that tension. If you are persistent and sit up straight whenever you notice you are slouching, eventually it will become natural to you and you wont have to think about it anymore
I had straight posture but when I moved school this year the school table is too tiny so I have to keep my head down all the time I hate this, it ruined my posture
Another tip: Strengthen your core and lower back muscles. As well as your hamstrings to prevent them from becoming too tight. These are your body's natural physiological mechanisms to keep your body upright.
Being 6 foot 4 lanky kid in HS with bad posture wasn't the best .. fixed it this year feels muchh better also more confident too, regret not stretching my back and not correcting it earlier.
is it just me, or does being taller than most affect ur posture? i always look downward and slouch because i feel awkwardly giant compared to my friends
I've been struggling with keeping good posture. About 20 times a day I adjust the way I sit, but before I even realise it I'm slouching again. Who has tips for improving your posture?
Charlie Noah slouching has become a habit for you. What you could do is apply some habit changing techniques that will be useful for this and any number of bad habits you might have. I am no expert in the field, but what has worked for me was to try and stay as continualy aware as possible so that you can correct the slouching while it's happening. If you have trouble with self-awareness you could try to set a timer in your smartphone to ring or vibrate each 5/10 mins as a reminder to check your posture. The more you do it, the less you're gonna need it and after some time it's gonna become your new habit to sit/stand up straight,
+Charlie Noah Don't use the back of the chair if it has one. Sit upright at the front of the chair, using a cushion it it's uncomfortable. Make sure the chair is high enough so that your thighs are flat when sitting, or even higher so that your hips are a bit above your knees. A firm wedge cushion can help tilt your hips slightly forward, which promotes proper posture. And if you're looking at a computer monitor, raise the monitor so the top is level with your eyes when sitting, and about an arms length away. If you're using a laptop for long periods, don't, or get an external monitor that can be put at the proper height. Not so sure about reading from books... Most "office chairs", even the $1000+ "ergonomic" ones, are terrible for posture. Any chair that slants back, forcing your hips to tilt backward it also to be avoided. Couches that put your knees above your hips and the back several feet in: worst invention ever for posture unless you can sit cross legged on one. Better yet, get a good kneeling chair. I got one about 7 years ago and swear by them. Most of the time I don't even use the knee pads and just keep my feet on the floor. Sitting upright is just the natural thing to do with these chairs. I used to have back and shoulder problems, but now my sitting does not cause problems even when I sometimes sit 10 hours a day, and I have excellent posture. Even when I sit on "regular" chairs now I sit as described above out of habit, and find it way more comfortable.
codediporpal This is without a doubt one of the most helpful responds I've received on RUclips. Thank you for taking the time! I'm sitting at the front of my chair as we speak. I've never heard of a kneeling chair, but did some online research and now I'm very intrigued! Going to try some in a store later this week to see if it the right height for my desk before I purchase one. The search continues but thanks to you I'm on the right track :)
This really opened my eyes about my posture. Thanks. (Also, I got this recommended to me, I haven’t talked or searched about posture once. I’m definitely being watched.)
I tried very hard to always remind myself to have a good posture, while I'm sitting, while I'm walking, while I'm stand. But it didn't help. My body automatically change to have a better posture after I start practicing and doing stretching exercise in daily basis (only 15 min a day). Give it a try. You'll see the result in a month.

Was diagnosed with scoliosis a few weeks ago. I'm hoping it will not develop into something serious, so I'm keeping good posture, and you should as well.
I had it for a few years. You have to be very disciplined and combat it every day, do not make the same mistake I did and then I needed surgery. I recommend swimming twice a week and maybe some stretching, depending on how many degrees maybe you could use a brace.
This video reminded me to the time i played video games in my pc when lockdown started for so long (with arms unsupported) that when i stand up i immediately collapsed with a very intense pain in my lower back. I couldn’t stand up for hours and had to be taken to the doctor the next day. I remained a whole week during bed recovering and had to eat food in a very awkward and uncomfortable position because i couldn’t stand up straight effectively. Now a days i thankfully changed my habits and i do lots of exercise. I really do not wish what happened to me to anyone! It was scary.
I had no idea it helped your posture before this video, but I've always slept on my side, head supported, with a pillow between my legs. I was very surprised when they mentioned that The pillow might seem odd at first, but it seems so much more comfortable, and I find it nearly impossible to sleep without cushion now

Hey free weight loss ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
To all the people struggling with improving posture.
Work on your mind too. Change the moods you are in every day. The mental state you are in effects your posture.
And another tip is to look into the Alexander technique.
You cant simply force your body into a better posture. It may look better and feel a bit better for a bit, but it actually isnt better.
Ok but it is better :/

I'm not 6 foot...yet, but I encounter the same issues.
true, much harder when you are tall
I guess tallness qualifies as a blessing and a curse then.
i feel you im 6'4 and it's very hard to walk stright
I'm 6 feet and I feel the same. Most of my friends are 5'3 5'5.. I have look down at everyone
*fixes posture after reading the title*
I'm too tall to sit straight when I'm at the desks in my school :|
I can 100% relate to this. What's worse is how awkward we look when we're sit up right!!

That exercise in the end is called "Surya Namaskar". In India, many people do it regularly at the time of sunrise. It is being practiced here for way earlier.
Instantly sat upright when I read the title.
Who else stopped slouching during the video?
Hahaha i felt bad for slouching at the beginning so yes i changed.
You should continue ever after this video. I know how bad slouching can get in a long run.
May i ask how it affected you? I find it very difficult myself to always stand and sit up straight, I really have to think about it all the time, so i am kinda worried about the consequences.
Well, mostly lower back pain which can get real bad if you are sitting all day. You can even get headaches from all that tension. If you are persistent and sit up straight whenever you notice you are slouching, eventually it will become natural to you and you wont have to think about it anymore

but the school tables are short.
@Lefy Was here im too short so chairs always end on my thigh so i slouch so it ends on my knee
that was one major reason why I hated school. I knew it was ruining my posture
I had straight posture but when I moved school this year the school table is too tiny so I have to keep my head down all the time
I hate this, it ruined my posture
Another tip: Strengthen your core and lower back muscles. As well as your hamstrings to prevent them from becoming too tight. These are your body's natural physiological mechanisms to keep your body upright.
J- YO And your abs and back also provide stability when you are in positions that would otherwise be unstable.
J- YO and if you already got ms tightness.. you should stretch it...
J- YO And stretching your quads if you sit a lot.
J- YO ridged posture doe
This is especially important before getting pregnant!

The more you do it, the less you're gonna need it and after some time it's gonna become your new habit to sit/stand up straight,
Nigra Med That is a great idea! Thank you for taking the time to guide me through the process :)

Don't use the back of the chair if it has one.
***** Thank you Liz! The tip to use your eyes instead of neck is a really good one! Something I can work on :)

(Also, I got this recommended to me, I haven’t talked or searched about posture once. I’m definitely being watched.)
Don't worry... everyone is
Dont you know that? Everything you do on the internet is recorded.

I'm 6 foot 4 (at full height) and I fear that when I properly stand up straight, other people might think that I'm trying to act like I'm superior to them or something :/ This is why I slouch quite badly.
ElAshtonio I think you've been blessed with height, so you should stand up straight and be proud. How you talk and treat others is what matters. not your posture ^ ^

Joseph Ang What's your solution?

I was very surprised when they mentioned that
The pillow might seem odd at first, but it seems so much more comfortable, and I find it nearly impossible to sleep without cushion now
