People don’t hate learning, in fact your brain loves learning, it’s just school is a place that kills the love to learn, the teachers and the curriculum are/is can be very boring and or frustrating. There need to be more people like the people at Vsause that teach the next generation.
Depends. I quite frequently find school as interesting depending on the subject. Maybe it's because I've met interesting teachers or because I grew up being inquisitive but some topics discussed in school actually piques my interest.
People asked what my favorite subject was each year of highschool. It depended on the teacher teaching it. My sophomore year I had a great teacher. Entertaining, understandable, reasonable, kind and respectful. Just a down to earth lady. Then the next year my least favorite subject was math because the teacher was stubborn, boring and didn’t really care about her students
I swear, Michael's train of thought is like a Wikipedia binge trapped inside a human brain. The guy goes on such fascinating tangents that always veer off course but never feel like they're even slightly random. There's always a connecting thread, a path that his discussion follows, that holds everything together. It's kind of beautiful in its own way.
He's a polymath I think. He also is clearly gifted in abstract and paradoxical thinking. People who are gifted in abstract and paradoxical thinking have high levels of what you might call super imagination. Ability to blend existing concepts and objects into something new, this can also be useful for problem solving. Like taking an object and connecting it to a unrelated idea based on a train of thought, just based on details of the object.Creating a new idea. They're not looking at the object, but what makes the object up and how it exists within space and time, how it will exist in the past and future. How it relates to seemingly unrelated objects and the bigger picture. what it's like on the smallest of details. Those details will take you to a new insight almost completely void of relationship to the starting point. what is inside the object and how it could be interacting with invisible forces. ect. Think of micheal Feraday or even Einstein. Research suggests people with these abilities have more connections between both sides of their right and left brain, but also a higher volume of grey matter. Not sure about his IQ, maybe 118 ? IQs aren't all that important imo. I was visited by a man who seeks out gifted children when I was a wee spriggin and he said I was gifted in abstract and paradoxical thinking. I'm not saying this to brag or anything. I do exactly what micheal does in the video. so I know he's at least semi gifted at this thought process. +Jerry Xue If you are the average citizen, then the majority of the topics you learn in school will be forgotten; cast aside and left unused, as they are not required in your day to day activities. Consequently, mulling over that chart of words or that history textbook with the sole purpose of passing the test and then forgetting the information is what I consider studying. Learning however, is a completely different subject. Learning is discovering things you thought were impossible, actually enjoying the information you are receiving. Just like Michael said, I believe that despite what topic you hate the most, if you learn more about it, you will find things about it you enjoy, while simultaneously gathering information about the topic. When you relate information gained to something you already know, that is when you have truly learned it.

I agree that Michael is a brilliant man and a great teacher, but I think that it is important to understand the differences between what he does and what a regular working teacher does. Michael has an entire week to come up with one 10-20 minute presentation. He can spend many hours researching a single concept, and he's not limited by curriculum guidelines and classroom codes of conduct as regular teachers are. For example, if a regular teacher started talking about his "bottom" to his students, there's a good chance they would end up in front of a professional practices review board and may face disciplinary action, or even lose his job. Michael has the option to do multiple takes on video and select and edit it until it is near perfect. The average teacher teaches about 3-4 hours each day for five days each week. That's 15-20 hours of presentations versus 10-20 minutes for Michael. Typically a regular teacher has about 1 hour of preparation time for each hour of teaching, then, on top of that they also have to do evaluations (marking submitted work), paperwork for admin (dealing with absenteeism, behavioural issues, etc.). So, while both jobs are related to education, the conditions and rate of output of each is vastly different.
You made me laugh, the high levels of preparation is what made Vsauce capable of such things. Average teachers are not even closely as prepared or intelligent as him, and if they were they'll probably demand to get paid more.
hahahah as i read your question, at the " 'is' " i enphasized it like michael when he asks a random question in his video and that music comes up playing... so my head immediately started playing that music
The way he started this off with puns, went everywhere, kept it interesting and then tied it all together with a "Why" "Wise" pun at the end is genius.
I love people like Michael, I like to think that I'm fairly intuitive and curious but comparatively, I feel like I have the mental aptitude of somewhere between a potato and a room temperature glass of water
Guy if you know the youtube channel idubbbz you would get it, because in one of his vids he gets michael (vsauce) and gets his spit to put it in a "human cake" so michael starts asking him if he would like some spit facts , btw the name of the vid is : human cake 3 i think
Ice And Fire I saw that, but I started thinking that the whole spit facts might have other implications, like, that people were critiquing that he was just spewing or spitting facts (which isn't really that true)
"Anything can be interesting to anyone because everything is related in someway to something they care about."- "Michael Vsauce" The reason I'm watching Michael Today isn't because i was interested in him originally, i saw him as another nerdy guy asking too many questions... but that quote is why I'm watching him today. I ended up watching him because I love space travel the thought of it, then i learn about the difficulties of it, learn about the sun, earth, how things work, and the ideology of existence in the first place if this is a real existence and not some matrix these questions led me to watching Vsauce. i had no interest in anything but when you think about it, everything is intertwined in someway, and what i personally learnt from school is.. really nothing, because teachers didn't want to teach me to be entertained by learning but just to be forced into subjects that i had not interest at that time... that quote is more relevant then anything and and im sure you can use it to compare any two or more things. Michael taught me to love learning, and I've learnt more from my 1 year out of school then my countless years in school. -Thanks Vsauce
I wished that eductaion was based on our desire for learning the unknown. School is a factory that makes people, the problem is that those people are robots forced to forget their desire for learning.

I never realized that Vsauce literally changed how my mind works. The crowds are usually pretty responsive; if not, then they're not completely dead. You can tell that they're soaking it all in, listening very closely to the information. You sometimes will see that in their faces, that face we make when something makes sense and reaches you, and you're like, "Wow, how is this hoomun so darn smart?!" :P
The reason I don’t engage with the content in my own country because it’s all about nonsense entertainment and don’t really go in depth or have that curiousity attitude. This is what I want to do and bring myself into, learning while also having a meaningful and open-minded experience. I hope I could meet people like this in the future.
Michael is amazing. I think he's going to become one of the greatest teachers of our time, he already is. Not many people can teach you things in the subtle way he does. It's fascinating within itself.
iiperento it can be less "hard" i spent my whole life sucking at math, i somewhoe made it to 11th grade hardly able to substract, that's how bad i was, and i was faced with calculus.. YES CALCULUS.. and i had to learn it in 4 months, i almost gave up when my uncle said that he can teach it to me, i passed fucking calculus with 65/80... which is amazing for me since i always failed at math. how he did it? i can't really tell. but he reminds me of micheal. he started with a simple question "why we need math", and started linking it to stuff i enjoy, then "what is calculus" and actually drew every thing, which our teachers rarely did. now i am happy to say i somehow like math in a weird way.
iiperento no problem, and a word of advice the thing you find yourself you will never forget, try to teach yourself using internet, it might take a bit more time but it will stick with you for life. i never learnt programming at school (because math) but after i got rid of my math problems i taught myself using the internet, now i'm on my way to have it as a career, there is always hope :).
Iam Anonymous Im pretty skilled at using the internet and specifically searches in google. Im teaching myself programming from the internet and the math is my biggest barier.
I had a private teacher teach me a crap ton of organic chemistry (which i really hate) he started of saying "ill go out of topic for 5 minutes, then ill start with it" 2 hours later he said "time is up" i was like woah! You only thought me like 10 minutes, i paid you for 2 hours!" He then explained to me how he gave me ALL igcse and a/as chemistry on the finals of grade 9! And i did feel the time pass by and i still remember it as i remember physics (my favourite). My point is, the teacher are not able to teach us because they are under qualified! I had a math teacher have ALL class (a class that hates maths, fails in math, and sees school as a playground) understand algebra deeply!
Anas Malas Haha IGCSE, I remember the stupidity of my teachers too. If you ever managed to start a formal argument on a topic, ends up in, "Don't attend my class next time" and me saying "We were having a discussion, learn nit to take things personally"
This is such an interesting speech and to hear Michael's wavelength and thought process doesn't just make you wonder and interested in of itself but it's also clear he's passionate about his hobby his craft and it really gets you involved with what he's talking about even if you would perceive the idea that you wouldn't enjoy the topic Michael as he says in the video hooks you in with great points reasoning and cool little insights into people's psyches and experiences
+Walnut it's an oxymoron. The title is as like any other click bait titles, that makes you interested. But he actually talks about what it says in the title. It's so smart. Good point Luis Lopez
globalfreaking So his titles are exactly what a title of a video should be. It makes the video interesting and he talks about this topic in his video. 👌
globalfreaking Do you even know what clickbait is? A title that has nothing to do with the video to call your attention, really just search on Wikipedia what it is. I agree the title is interesting but he talks about the stuff in the video so it's not considered clickbait.

Michael Stevens is such a brilliant man. I learned more from him than I did at school. I wish teachers used his method of teaching more often.
I found a person that said the exact same thing that you said.
Cryptopolis before teaching, they usually go to university. That's where they learn the A to Z and beyond.
I think many teachers would. It's the system of benchmarks established by the state that prevent truly innovative methods of teaching.
You made me laugh, the high levels of preparation is what made Vsauce capable of such things. Average teachers are not even closely as prepared or intelligent as him, and if they were they'll probably demand to get paid more.
but what 'is' a question?
A statement with the objective of learning something.

Best ted talk. Pretty much a Vsauce episode.
...or is it?
Why?
This is one of the best TED Talks I have ever seen tbh.
He really should have started the talk with "Hi TEDx, Michael here. What is the best kind of cheese...."
Orion Fyre and what is cheese? Why do people enjoy it and why is it called cheese? Well first, let’s create a universe
Or is it?
. . . Or *should* he?
It's not the same as when he pops out from a random side and says it though

I seriously wish Micheal was my science teacher. :P
Lord Queezle spit some facts
+Vinegar the fuck does that imply
Guy if you know the youtube channel idubbbz you would get it, because in one of his vids he gets michael (vsauce) and gets his spit to put it in a "human cake" so michael starts asking him if he would like some spit facts , btw the name of the vid is : human cake 3
i think
Ice And Fire
I saw that, but I started thinking that the whole spit facts might have other implications, like, that people were critiquing that he was just spewing or spitting facts (which isn't really that true)
he is perfect as science, or as a philosophy teacher

"Anything can be interesting to anyone because everything is related in someway to something they care about."- "Michael Vsauce"
The reason I'm watching Michael Today isn't because i was interested in him originally, i saw him as another nerdy guy asking too many questions...
but that quote is why I'm watching him today.
I ended up watching him because I love space travel the thought of it, then i learn about the difficulties of it, learn about the sun, earth, how things work, and the ideology of existence in the first place if this is a real existence and not some matrix these questions led me to watching Vsauce.
i had no interest in anything but when you think about it, everything is intertwined in someway,
and what i personally learnt from school is.. really nothing, because teachers didn't want to teach me to be entertained by learning but just to be forced into subjects that i had not interest at that time... that quote is more relevant then anything and and im sure you can use it to compare any two or more things. Michael taught me to love learning, and I've learnt more from my 1 year out of school then my countless years in school.
-Thanks Vsauce
Mood
Bro that’s really cool but could you repeat that I was looking for who asked
I wished that eductaion was based on our desire for learning the unknown. School is a factory that makes people, the problem is that those people are robots forced to forget their desire for learning.

Wow what a great crowd. Usually they're emotionless unresponsive bodies at most Ted Talks
I was thinking something similar!
No. Ted X talks.
Not true. In all Ted Talk videos I've seen people usually laugh at jokes unless they're not funny.
Don't they usually record it then cut out the sounds of the crowds?

Michael is amazing. I think he's going to become one of the greatest teachers of our time, he already is. Not many people can teach you things in the subtle way he does. It's fascinating within itself.
Nicole Slater He teaches theory, math can hardly be teached as he is doing it.
iiperento it can be less "hard" i spent my whole life sucking at math, i somewhoe made it to 11th grade hardly able to substract, that's how bad i was, and i was faced with calculus..
Iam Anonymous Thank you for giving me hope !
iiperento no problem, and a word of advice the thing you find yourself you will never forget, try to teach yourself using internet, it might take a bit more time but it will stick with you for life. i never learnt programming at school (because math) but after i got rid of my math problems i taught myself using the internet, now i'm on my way to have it as a career, there is always hope :).
Iam Anonymous Im pretty skilled at using the internet and specifically searches in google. Im teaching myself programming from the internet and the math is my biggest barier.

Why do you ask?
Anas Malas
Haha IGCSE, I remember the stupidity of my teachers too.
