That's a great observation! I think Arthur Benjamin takes more time saying the answer than he does solving the problem for a few reasons. First, he wants to make sure that he explains the answer clearly and concisely. He doesn't want to just give the answer and leave the audience confused. He wants to help them understand how he got to the answer and why the answer is correct. Second, Benjamin uses his time to entertain the audience. He is a skilled storyteller and communicator, and he enjoys telling stories and jokes to illustrate his points. He also likes to interact with the audience and ask them questions. Third, Benjamin takes his time to inspire the audience. He wants to show them that mathematics is a beautiful and powerful subject. He wants them to see that mathematics can be used to solve real-world problems and to make the world a better place. Overall, I think Arthur Benjamin takes more time saying the answer than he does solving the problem because he wants to explain the answer clearly, entertain the audience, and inspire them. He is a gifted teacher and communicator, and he uses his time to share his love of mathematics with the world. I find his approach to teaching mathematics very refreshing. He is not just interested in teaching students how to solve problems. He also wants to teach them how to think critically and to appreciate the beauty of mathematics. I am grateful for Arthur Benjamin's contributions to the field of mathematics education. He is an inspiration to me and to many other students and teachers.
@damn8633 Nah The impressive part isn't the calculation, honestly It's being able to accurately keep track of how many digits the solution has and properly saying the final answer... I was messing around with speed mental mathematic techniques and they pretty much all work the same way as regular multiplication on paper. As in, when you do the calculation in your head you won't arrive at: "three million two hundred twenty seven thousand six hundred and seventy three"... (3,227,673 for looks) You'd solve it and you'd get something like: "three, seven, six, seven, two, two, three" ...which doesn't matter for calculating, but being able to count all the digits, reverse the order, and then correctly label the number in real-time is pretty damn impressive, honestly. It's called the Trachtenberg method

This isn't him flexing. When you were in school/college/university and they are going to teach a subject, I'm sure 90% of the time the very first thing they do or ask is "What is [this subject]?" Arthur did that when he introduced Mathemagics. He tells you what it is, then proceeds to show that it works and tries to give a glimpse into how it works in his head. If you want to learn how to do it, I'm sure it's another class or Ted talk you'll have to take.
All I can say is, this guy is Amazing. Wish I knew how to do this when I went to school many many years ago. The Scientific Calculator in my College years was my salvation to do math. Back in the late 1960's I had one of the first Scientific Calculators made by HP, which was the HP-35. It was a reverse polish method of how numbers were entered, but man it worked great on all my Electronic Engineering tests. Later I then got the HP-45 which was even better. Note: Before I had one of these Calculators, we were all using Slide Rules in College. This Dates me on how Old I am now. I still have my Slide Rule as a Remembrance of how we did our studies and tests back then. Take care.
After reading his(and his friend's) book I've finally get in understanding how is he doing that, and even tried to do these tricks myself, trying to square 6 digit number in my head(I've succeeded after 2nd go and it took me 15 minutes) but I still cannot match his speed, this is freakishly fast, I guess this is something that you achieve after couple of years of intense practice and passion

10:50 Imagine if someone watched this 700+ years in the future on June 13, 2730 and it was actually cloudy!!
By then this recording will be gone, youtube will have shut down, and earth would be less significant with us having a moon base and a mars base. But if it WAS cloudy on that day I would crack up
If we go to heaven when dead I’m going to keep a lookout for this date just to see if it’s cloudy
It's in Oxford. It's always cloudy around that place. It was a joke.

Dude will teach calculus like its easy
Mr.Fundamentals M.G calculus is easy
FroboSama my brain doesn’t agree
The actual mathematics you do in Calculus is really easy; you only ever really do algebra. The concept of calculus is interpreting what functions tell us and what we can solve with said function.

Bruh. Imagine having this dude as your dad and getting a math problem wrong when you are doing your homework.
Unfortunately/fortunately my father is like this, it’s nice because you can ask him a question and he’ll answer within seconds and sometimes show me how to do it myself in the future. But unfortunately because I have a slight memory problem my father made me memorise every timetable from 0.0x0.0 to 30.0x30.0 on the bright side I now know how to figure out weird maths problems on the not so good side I’ve forgotten most of it... if my father finds this comment he might call me to recite them all again, wish me luck.

A lot of Ted Talks are people flexing, but in a good way
This isn't him flexing.
Kazuhir 007 the answers are correct
Seeing he needing to think for once is like watching someone use their brain to 100%
The crazy part is that the thought wasn't even for the solution, he was just trying to say the number accurately🤣

When your teacher says you're not allowed to use calculators.
B R U H ! So I’m sitting here reading comments and I see my boy Midoriya out here boolin’
Take care.
Teacher: "Did you forget your calcuator again?"
Me: He's right here

After reading his(and his friend's) book I've finally get in understanding how is he doing that, and even tried to do these tricks myself, trying to square 6 digit number in my head(I've succeeded after 2nd go and it took me 15 minutes) but I still cannot match his speed, this is freakishly fast, I guess this is something that you achieve after couple of years of intense practice and passion
