The worst thing you can ever do is say that you can't do something. It's upsetting to believe that so many people have passed on never fulfilling a dream because they told themselves they can never do it. Always believe in yourself and give it a go, what's the worst that can happen?
This needs some clarification. It's okay to say and understand that you can't do something. But it's important to know that a lot of things you can't do because you haven't learnt to do it yet. Let yourself be a beginner.
No one can at the start, you just to have to draw to practice. No one is born good at drawing. I myself am an amateur but I am much better than before because I practiced.
My mind sees the picture I want to draw, but there's a short-circuit half-way down my arm I try to make them too realistic, rather than cartoons I'm trying to do a damn protrait

Yeah, I was kind of waiting for him to go back and use that extra blank sheet but he didn't. He just left me wondering why did he skip that extra paper.
I did that too cause i was copying him and i was drawing with my sign pen in a textbook instead because some of the sign pen dots appear behind the page, whether you like it or not, you should respect people for the way they like to do things.

@@Rubinkys I never worried about the flu, no. And certainly don't now. If the news pointed all their cameras at car crashes and told you if you choose to drive you're choosing to put everyone at risk, people would suddenly be terrified and feel guilty driving. The flu has always killed people, covid hasn't killed any more than any flu has any year before it if you actually look at the data. The number of deaths in the U.S. for instance has gone up within a certain number (around 10-15k more each year I believe) along with population growth and that number hasn't moved even a little. Also, heart disease, pneumonia and diabetes have all dropped (for the first time in 40plus years) at the EXACT rate covid has risen, all while "the flu" as we have known it has... ready? COMPLETELY DISAPPEARED. FLATLINED WHEN COVID "ARRIVED". They merely shined a light on something that has always been there. Covid 19 is simply a new strain of a virus we've dealt with our entire lives. Protect the old and sick, and LEAVE THE REST OF US YOUNG AND HEALTHY ALONE. Not to mention, the last year has marked the biggest transfer of wealth to companies like Amazon ever in history. Makes you think a bit doesn't it? Almost makes you want to USE YOUR BRAIN 🧠🤔 😁
MN Husin i have a friend that thinks he is the best at singing because his mom said that. Once he got a B at singing and asked why he got it. She explained to him that he's not that good as he thinks. After school he told me that teacher is a whore but then i said shut up she's right. I know he didn't sang good cause i'm going to the music school and know how to sing. Then he challenged me to sing. I sang "I want to break free" by Queen. Then he sang some shitty fnaf song and of course it was terrible. Then he said after it: " See, I'm better than you, right?" I was so mad that i punched him in the stomach and left. He was even going to a COMPETITION OF SINGING and i was going too. I was 3rd of 20 and he was last.He started to be jealous. He said "I hate you!". I ended the friendship.
As an artist, I will say, these are actually great drawings! If you aren’t an artist and you were thinking “oh well, no one would actually like this anyways” (idk if anyone would actually say that, but that’s smth I would say tbh) if I saw this, I would genuinely love seeing these. If I could get my own portrait in this style, I would genuinely frame it on my wall. I genuinely adore this type of art style, idk why, but I love it.
you only said that because that's what we want to hear right? when actually my drawings are horrible, you are just a liar and you only said that of pity and what I would I like to hear
As an aspiring artist whos been drawing for over a year, getting frustrated, seemingly getting nowhere, seeing this really reminded me about the joy of drawing. The feeling of creating something out of nothing. Seeing that reaction from those people, all those smiles on their faces. That really helps me to appreciate the craft more.
@@YoshiMario69 still drawing. Still just casually, though. Certainly better than I was last year. I'd like to think I have a better outlook and attitude towards it now than I did last year. Hoping to get a job in the creative industry before next year :)
That's why they have specialised technological tools for such situations. It's called photo-robot or something like that EDIT: actually, it's "facial composite" in English
I started when i was two. The first drawing I was proud of was a horse that looked like a severely underweight cow. I learned how to draw an actual horse head at age 7 from a McDonalds Americal Girl Doll book (the toy that came with the meal). Now I am drawing horses that are hard to tell from the original picture and am in a project talent class and intend to go to an art school(if God provides the money) and be an illustrator. You always start out small. No one starts out drawing like Picasso's realistic paintings. That's just not how it works. You have to slowly build up the skill and experiment with different techniques and find your art style as you grow older and more independent in your thinking and you start to try new things that you madebup yourself.
Matty Betty that's true, that's at least how I started. I started drawing what I called " anime " drawings at a small age, then when I said what it REALLY was. I started to draw that type! (( i think it was sailor moon or mew mew power )) it was pretty hard drawing those anime people (( I was 7 or 8 )) and now I'm great at it and I'm 10! You can be a small artist at a small age, ^-^ So believe in yourself! You will start small, the draw something so big you might draw a tv series! You will do just great with just a little imagination and keep trying until you think it's perfect! (( p.s try drawing anime, it's super challenging XD I dare you to draw anime!! ^3^ ))
Oh thank god... People are just always around saying "you're so talented and lucky". Damn, isn't that perseverance and work before natural talent ? I mean, no one was born with the ability of drawing fine ! Anyway... You're right :)
I agree with you. However I do believe some people are more artistically inclined and have a natural eye for detail which can aid them in their drawing skills. I have a super observant friend who is homeschooled and she had never had classes. She's a better artists than I am! I don't think certain people were born naturally able to draw but i do believe something people were born with a specific brain type to pick out color's and shapes more than others while other have to learn how to look for that kind of stuff like me and they base their work off of that.
Haha believe me I had a small anime phase. Black butler, vampire knight, death note.... all the goodies. It is very very difficult as drawing all people is as well. Drawing a random person can be more simple than drawing a specific one. If you draw a well-known person, if you don't get every single little gesture perfect, it messes up the whole piece and makes it look off and not quite right. Something I think all artists can never have enough practice on.
No artist will say their drawing is the best, because in their eyes they could be better. They can be satisfied with an artwork, but still think that it could be better.
Da Dragon Durp - Yea same, also for me as I've gotten older I've found I have less and less time for all my hobbies, and while I do enjoy drawing and sketching I simply don't have the time that I used to for it. As a result my quality has dropped below even what I know I could do before - it sucks...
People think that they cannot do things, simply because they do not know where to start. Information overload is a real thing, especially in todays world of seemingly infinite distractions. It's all about breaking things down into smaller parts, and analyzing them. To truly understand something, we must look at the smaller components that make up the whole equation. Same goes for time, something I am still learning is that to not be overwhelmed with life and to remain peaceful, you must treat each day one step at a time, literally and metaphorically. Focus on the moment. Seek clarity and understanding in things that you wish to, and for God's sake, do not forget how much potential you have. Remember, everyone who ever did anything amazing, was doubted by everyone around them, and a lot of our self doubt, comes from the fact that we tend to believe what others say at times we shouldn't. All I wish by commenting here right now is that maybe one person even reads this and decides to go on with something that they have been doubting that they could do for some time, and that it takes you on a journey that changes you life for the better, and I, will do my best to do the same.
when people say "OMG I CAN'T DRAW A STICKMAN" I'm like "Bitch, please, you just don't want to." Like 75% of my friends draw. It's not hard. Nobody gives a shit if you suck, you draw for fun.
+Zorroaster I'm 15, I manage to get from Rainbow 6 Siege to Klein bottles over at Numberphiles videos, then to here. I am lost and I feel afraid about learning :(
How uplifting. I’m a retired public school art teacher and I adored this. My heart was so moved by the stroke sufferers delight…how freeing this must have felt to them. My first thought was ‘I wonder which hand they are drawing with!’ I especially liked the end speech. Thank you so much for sharing and the work you do. I’m a pretty good artist and I still learned.❤
Drawing is easy if you do what artists do, copy eachother. I take 6 different types; Avatar (the Last Airbender), Kipo, Zelda, Final Fantasy, Snailords - for an example. I take the basic lines; facial outlining, nose, ears, etc. From one style. Then I get more detailed with things like reshaping the eyes to be more pronounced, lips, nose, etc from another artists. Better details like the iris and reflecting from another artist. Shape and style of hair from another. And I continue combing things until I have a sort of blueprint for really making it my own. Like, all my characters have different types of fantasy ears. Mermaid ears, fairy ears, elf ears, etc. And then the shadowing and shading is all automatically me. As is coloring. Then by the end, you can't tell what it's origins are. Copying artists into something else is what we call inspiration and reimagining. You can also just take a picture, and draw it, then detail it differently. Like making it look cgi like Final Fantasy or WoW. Everyone can draw, if they take the time a patience. True artists don't say "practice makes perfect," we say "practice makes better." Because we're always striving to be better and improve. But it does take time and effort, and a lot of self love.
+silversonic99 such a silly phrase - "without any education". Just because someone has a few certificates you give them such authority. If you have wisdom to share I'm willing to listen.
@@taeko3508 This guy is fooling people into believing they can draw. And that's false. I mean, they can draw... as far as their lack of talent goes. Talent for this is the gift of a select few. This guy wants us to discard that fact.
My grade 5 teacher made us draw the cartoons in our notes that she had done on the blackboard for each lesson. It made the notes more fun to study and it never dawned on me, as a child, that it would be a memory aid for me and for other students. Each student learns differently. She was amazing!! That was almost 50 years ago and I remember her with such fondness.
that's because the title imply that drawing the stuff in the video is knowing how to draw. That's merely a doodle. Drawing properly takes time and efforts and this video could pass off as trivialization.
The thing is... Just move on. It's not a big deal that it didn't meet someones expectations. One should ask themselves, Did this really destroy my life because I didn't get anything out of it. Like I said before, "I thought it was fun AND I learned something simple." NOW my smiley faces on the back of restaurant checks have brought more smiles from the waitress', Plus the presenter made a good point :-)
I didn't think you were, I was just coming from a guy who can't draw and was having some fun with the techniques I learned :-) It was also interesting how he worked with people who had strokes... We're cool !!!
People really think drawing is some impossible task when they've never spent any time doing it, but the way he demonstrated it really is all there is to it. I tend to draw more realistic or stylized images, but can confirm that the process is the exact same. I learned how to draw noses by copying one I saw in a comic book of mine, and all I do now is follow the same process making slight alterations when I want something that looks different.
@@Silencer796Lol, if it takes you 5 years to get better at drawing, you're doing something wrong or you're really not drawing to improve like you said you are. If you're dead set on being better, you'd be focusing on REAL things that can make you better like learning Anatomy, perspective, color theory, etc... instead of drawing freestyle or copying a reference with no real objective. Sure, you're going to get a sense of it, but it can only take you so far. It's like doing an action, unable to understand what you're doing. Take for example, sweeping. Your mother told you to sweep and you did. The question is, are you sweeping the right way? Lots of people think that by just drawing everyday, you'll get better, but that's technically incorrect. If you do it the right way, you'll improve faster. If you don't, then you're going to spend more time.
The most important thing to learn when trying to draw, is to fully incorporate the White of the paper you're drawing on. What I mean is this - When we try to draw, for example a human head and face, or maybe a cat, dog etc, we draw the full shape, i.e. we draw a full circle for the head and try to add things to it, or we draw the full shape of a cat and then try to add a tail etc, but what Graham Shaw wants us to realize, and something I realized after seeing countless of videos etc, is that you don't need to draw the full shape, but rather, you need to utilize the White of the paper. Just like in the video, you draw a few lines where you want the neck to be, or the ears to be etc, and then the rest of it is already filled in by the White background of the paper. This is the biggest barrier that most people have when it comes to drawing. A person needs to realize that most drawings create the illusion that a full picture is in front of you, even though its just a few drawn lines that represent the basic shape of an object, and then the paper itself fills in the rest and creates a full image. Everything is in the imagination. When you draw, you should be relaxed and not overthink it. It takes practice, and of course, a lot of imagination, but this video is correct, everyone can draw, you just have to realize that a lot of drawings are creating the illusion of a full picture, even if only a few lines exist on the paper itself :) (I know this comment is a repost, I do it on purpose so that new people can find it easier)
Thank you very much Robert. I've seen the video second time and had drawn some sketches too but your comment was the most helpful in understanding the concept of it .
@@syedmuhammadwaqarali I always feel so happy when I'm able to help someone in any way I can, and I'm currently smiling wide while reading that my comment was helpful to you and maybe made you view the whole concept of drawing in a new way :)
my hypothesis is that when drawing these cartoons, each step or stroke is computers like a character when handwriting. the nose is a C, the eyes are obviously 6s etc. this means that instead of the brain thinking "ugh, I can't draw" it's thinking "hey, I can write characters like this!" and the lines end up very clean and confident, just like handwriting.
+hanz cruz can you still draw well according to this technique? maybe your handeriting is bad because you write fast, but when you draw you take your time so it looks better.
I told a friend I wished I could draw, he said I could I just didn't know it. I tried and I like the result, it was terrible in hindsight but I thought it was good, he gave me tips and encouraged me (while probably cringing inside at my attempts) and I got far better, I love art now so much and I'm actually quite good. Art inspired me to take up photography and I'm really good at that, I knew I had to practice and now I'm professional level. I'm neurodivergent though and that has helped (and hindered) me a lot.
Despite some opinions seeing this video as a "connect the dots" or "paint by numbers" method, it's more about the mentality and limits people are challenged with. The end of the video is the most important part of being an artist. This guy gets it. The entirety of this video is just to give the masses the lens to finally see what is possible in all of us....drawing or anything else.
***** Very true, great comment. I was expecting him to start with: anyone who can write "CSI" can draw! =P lol I like telling people that. This is a great video to get people out of the, oh so common, self-deprecating mind set. Thank you!
+fxscreamer Well, in a sense, a lot of drawing is based on learning different methods and developing them through muscle and mental memory. That's why it takes practice to get good at drawing in the first place.
+fxscreamer Aren't you the guy that draws the exact same cat character over and over and over again just with different hair every single month, and post "improvement videos" which could be shown in any order and still make sense? Yeah, don't give art advice.
Klavi yeah u have to practice, but for instance all of my family could be called artistic. Talent runs in family's. like how some family's are athletic and some not athletic
Everyone complaining that he's just drawing basic stuff, I'll remind you that this is "Why people believe they can't draw" and not "How to draw like Leonardo da Vinci". Basically what this video says is whenever we are asked "Can you draw?" We'll automatically assume that 'draw' means 'drawing well' so we'll say no. He's reminding us that everyone can draw and what we only need left is confidence and practice.
WONDERFUL reminder that it is WE who limits ourselves! I am semi-retired and wanted to challenge myself with a rather difficult art medium, watercolors. I have little talent for doing original paintings, but I am surprising myself at how well I can copy (for my own enjoyment). Now I want to do more challenging things, especially after seeing this humble man prove to me I CAN do what I thought I couldn't! Thank you, Sir!
What I like about this is that the point of drawing these characters isn’t to make something perfect or realistic, but just to make something. People are so scared of drawing, but everyone in the audience is learning to laugh about it and to have fun with it, which disarms the fear of failure. So wholesome
He did that so he could explain the psychology to it. People are most influenced when they realize their own capabilities. You can say all the words you want but you have to show them and that's exactly what he did
I draw for fun, and if you're young or just starting off you should try to remember this: Grades in school mean next to nothing, if you get a bad grade in arts don't let that destroy your interest in it. This nearly happened to me, but luckily I was able to avoid it. Extra note: Always finish a drawing, I personally keep all drawings in a little notebook with their date of when I drew them. While you're drawing something you might believe that it isn't good, or that you can do better but if you finish the drawing and look at it again a few months/years later you'll be able to look at it in a different way and truly appreciate it. I also love sharing my drawings with someone, it's not needed to have fun but it personally makes me motivated to get even better, and the feedback/compliments you'll receive will be really helpful :)
All really good advice. I'd also like to add that you should never have high expectations for your paintings before you start as to not give yourself pressure!! All of my best artwork are the ones that I did for practice, aka winked.
So, not even joking, two or three years ago a watched this video and that helped me draw different types of faces and then it gave me the confidence to draw anything. Now I’m even taking one of my English GCSE’s in art. This is one of the few times that I can legitimately say that “this video really did change my life”
I forget what professor it was, but he asked a group of students if anyone could draw, dance, or sing. No one raised their hand. He then went on to talk about what happened to them. When they were 5, 6, whatever, they could do every one of those things. I really enjoyed that video wherever I saw that.
When I saw the title, I was super hyped. Then I remembered that I worked 3 hours at the art studio with my teacher to draw a circle. It looked more like an apple.
Art is a skill too and I find it astonishing how many people don't realise it's something you can practice, and something you HAVE TO practice to become good at it. If you think artists are born with a brush in hand, painting like the old masters, you're undermining countless hours of hard work and practice they've put into art. You could do that too and be one of them. Nothing's stopping you but yourself.
+-T-X-M- It's easy to just say it's all down to practice, but it all depends on each person. Some people just lack some fundamental abilities that, sometimes, can't be fixed by practice. I can't even sign my name twice and make them look the same, and I have done a generous amount of signing. How could that be down to lack of practice? *What* practice?
+Fernie Canto I don't think drawing and signing can be considered the same thing, being able to exactly reproduce something, as you are trying to do by signing, isn't the same as drawing. Also, when you say you've done a lot of signing, that doesn't equate to practice. Practice isn't just doing something over and over again- would you expect to become really good at a sport if you just practiced it, without looking at techniques or having someone teach you? Art is the same. If you just do something over and over, you're going through trial and error until you find something that looks good, which obviously takes MUCH longer than if you have someone tell you what you need to do to improve.
A lot of people are missing the point of his presentation, his closing statement is what it's all about. It's not necessarily about the style or anything to do with the drawings, but the limitations people carry with them instead of challenging themselves.
trojan yikes! Sorry to hear that! Bad experiences can often make good art. Try throwing paintballs at something, or open up cans of paint and just go crazy. You never know what might come out of it
YES!!! The same goes for music! Being musically inclined isn’t always something you’re born with, you just need to practice. I firmly believe anybody can be a musician, if they want to.
I was thinking the same. We are capable of many things that we are not aware of. For example, anyone who got all ten fingers and average IQ can play guitar. Literally everyone, is not that hard.
@@andromisilibrober yes, piano takes quite a great deal of skills and practice. I think someone really needs to have a natural inclination, but even so, if you're passionate about it and put a lot of effort and time, you'll get some results.
I've known for my entire life that I couldn't draw because an art teacher looked at something I'd done in sixth grade and told me I couldn't draw. Sixty-one years later, Mr. Shaw showed me that I could. If only I'd had a teacher like him in grade school.
the majority of art teachers are truly awful and just beat all the passion for the subject out of people, and it's all based on their own personal tastes or even pure spite.
@@gvd72 Anyone can draw, I think you guys are referring to being bad at drawing. As long as you can put something on your paper with a pencil, you can draw, but you're just not good at it. Yes, just do what you love.
An absolute masterclass, Teachers like these make the difference. Most of the time, how we learn the first-class affects how we perceive the subject - brilliant.
First I have to say, my English might be bad because I am still learning it since two years. So. In my school (I'm in junior high) we can decide, if we want to have maths, biology, latin, Spanish, Italian, music, (now the problem every foreigner has, I dont't know the Englisch word for "Wirtschaft"), or art in senior high. A lot of students in my age (14-16) want to have art as the main subject, but extremely much students think, they are too bad for it. Yesterday a few senior high students presented their main subject to us, so we can see, if we want to choose this or not. A girl asked the two, who have art, if it were bad when she would take art, because she said she is bad at painting and drawing. The older student said, if she feels she would be bad, but wants to learn painting, it's defenitly the best choice. He said, passion is everything. My as a girl, who thought in second year of junior high, she should learn how to draw better than others, I think everyone should take something they like, because to do something boring for 4 years is pretty hard. I am going to choose art. because there we don't have that many examen, like two in a year, and we have a lot of time for our work and we can be creative. Also our school is placed well, so we can work outside or in town. The teacher I am going to have also said, his classes can change something on our school. We can paint the walls and things like this. I am very happy ti be at the school I am😊
kawaii pocky-chan Otaku nyan! No, those students, who have chosen maths have 6 lessons a week maths and 4 lessons of physics. Normal students have 4 lessons maths and 2 lessons physics.
kawaii pocky-chan Otaku nyan! I am so bad in maths, so I don't think it would be a good idea. But if I were better I would choose maths... Anyways, I like doing stuff where I can be creative and where's nothing right or wrong
kawaii pocky-chan Otaku nyan! And thats the point where I loose self confidence. I am pretty bad and they do so complicated stuff, I would need years to umderstand that😂 I think I got it, you like maths, right?
I don’t know why I clicked on this video, I don’t have much of an interest in drawing. But this ended up being one of the most profound videos I have seen in a long time. it’s mind blowing to me that I was able to draw those pictures that easily.
Seeing the images of those stroke recoverers kinda reminds me of how my great-grandma didn't realize she could draw until she was in her 80s. She knew she could color, which she had done when she was a kid, but she never knew up until that point that she could draw. I gotta say, for someone who went that long without knowing she had that kinda talent, she certainly made drawings that made her look like she did it for years. I miss her so much, but at least some of those memories of her are in the drawings of hers that we now have in our possession
Ok, now I'm crying & missing my Grandmother 👵. She didn't draw that I knew of, but she had a way with animals that was remarkable. She had a bull with horns named Billy, that would follow her as she walked to the gated pasture & she'd open the gate and he'd walk in. All the animals loved her and so did her grandchildren. Missing her all over again now.
Man, as a kid I always thought that my drawings were masterpiece and I was good at it, but now looking back at my sketchbooks I realized how bad it actually was, but yet my teachers and parents motivated me. And now I'm way better at art and I'm very happy I didn't give up lol
They were good for your age probably! I was naturally inclined to drawing well, but with age and being able to actually look into technique ive grown immensely. But like you, had i not had the recognition at a younger age i may not have even gotten to the point of being able to keep progressing and becoming decent
what do u actually teach them kids? Like do u approach this from philosophy - what is art? Or do u explain how to use 'the tools', or do kids just copy stuff? I wonder :-)
@@afielsch for me as a person who always had no confidence in art during my younger days(kidergarden up to primary level) i tink the best way to teach art at the early stage is to guide them on the technical area such as the correct ways to colour, how to hold the pencil and continuous practicing...just let them draw following their own ways or style but we just guide them to make them better..... the theory stuff shud be taught at a later stage because kids will eventually learn it by themselves...
Drawing speaks volumes about the personality and worldview of an individual. I can perceive brightness and joy as well as positive energy through each animated image and the way he speaks. Additionally, there is a beautiful soul that brings joy to stroke patients. Thank you Graham Shaw

This dude is super inspirational tbh. Not even about drawing really. But that you can do anything you put your mind to but if you think you can't then of course you won't be able to.
First step of learning to draw well is 1. Practice 2. Practice 3. More practice People want immediate results smh, i hate whenever people tell me i have a “gift”. I practiced drawing for 12 years, its a skill and takes time to achieve.
Yeet God well i couldn't argue some are really gifted not only from drawing but by the art itself. Though gift along wouldn't help.. i too had the gift but i stopped practice on highschools so yeah nothing develops and nothing progressed so i stuck with mind i am not good with drawing.
The ability to _draw_ and the ability to *create* are two different things. Anyone can draw by numbers if they follow directions. Practice is as necessary as breathing for any venture in life, however practice alone will not make you great at anything. You have to have talent to start off with. Practice allows you to hone that talent. A seed will not grow unless you feed it, water it, give it sunlight, and nurture it overall. You do have a gift. Most people do not have that desire to practice and that is a barrier that prevents most of us from reaching our full potential. I've been able to draw since I was 5 years old. Long before I started any kind of practice regime. My creativity *IS* a gift and blessing from God. I have to practice and keep practicing until I no longer have breath in my body. There is never a time where you have "made-it." Once you think that, you've lost it and not only will the quality of your work start to plateau, but it may even start to decline. Every famous artist that I have met has told me the same thing.
Came across this while I was bored due to having a broken arm and ended up picking up my pen with my left hand and giving it a go expecting it to not work. I realised i could still do the drawings pretty easily just a bit slower and it was awesome when he explained how he taught the stroke victims. Basically it proved everything he was preaching in the video to be true what a great life lesson!
He's right. I took a drawing class for non-artists in college. In general, NONE of us could draw for beans on day one. By the end of the semester, most of us had improved tremendously, some downright dramatically, by following the teacher's instructions. A couple didn't improve at all; it was obvious they weren't following what the teacher had been telling us. We were told over and over that talent will only take you so far; ability can be acquired and developed by learning and practicing. As an old fart, I see that this applies to a lot of things.

had to have been an American college where people love to waste time and money
The main problem is people don't understand it takes time, dedication, practice. They think people just sit down and go "Hmm, I think I will make a drawing today as I never have." then come out with a masterpiece. Like, no. It's not like that. I can show art from 10 years ago and art today and there is a HUGE different. Why? Because I kept practicing (except there would be months if not years I stopped drawing woops so I'm no where near the skill level I should be lmao) and had the determination to figure out how to improve and what I needed to improve. People can learn to do most things in life, they just choose to accept failure because it's easier than trying and dedicating a large portion of time into something.
it's not about drawing and become and artist, it's about self confidence , and what u gonna achieve in life, in any field of work, if u have some self confidence , like u if u are an artist, u have to had some confidence in u to achieve what ever u achieve in your life ...
I've always thought I couldn't draw even though I've always been fascinated by drawing, painting and art in general. Recently, I've thought if I decided to learn how to draw how could I start? Well, I came across this TED talk then and I learned a lot more than about drawing but about challenging our beliefs. Such a powerful message!
A TED talk is a video created from a presentation at the main TED (technology, entertainment, design) conference or one of its many satellite events around the world. TED talks are limited to a maximum length of 18 minutes but may be on any topic.

Also, heart disease, pneumonia and diabetes have all dropped (for the first time in 40plus years) at the EXACT rate covid has risen, all while "the flu" as we have known it has... ready? What did the bank robber look like*
Since you're talking about appearance, the structure is ''what + look like''.
Matty Betty no one cares
Matty Betty that's true, that's at least how I started. I started drawing what I called " anime " drawings at a small age, then when I said what it REALLY was. I started to draw that type! (( i think it was sailor moon or mew mew power )) it was pretty hard drawing those anime people (( I was 7 or 8 )) and now I'm great at it and I'm 10! You can be a small artist at a small age, ^-^
So believe in yourself!
I drew my profile picture and while most people think it looks good, I think I could have done way better lol

"Perfectionism does not lead to perfection but to disappointment"

True artists don't say "practice makes perfect," we say "practice makes better."
Because we're always striving to be better and improve.
But it does take time and effort, and a lot of self love.

People think that really? I’ve heard people say art is easy and “anyone can do it” like it totally doesn’t take 10 or 5 years
@@Silencer796Lol, if it takes you 5 years to get better at drawing, you're doing something wrong or you're really not drawing to improve like you said you are.
Great interesting talk thanks
U are actually right...I do the same thing and ruin it...I'll try to keep this in mind next time I'll try

my hypothesis is that when drawing these cartoons, each step or stroke is computers like a character when handwriting. the nose is a C, the eyes are obviously 6s etc. this means that instead of the brain thinking "ugh, I can't draw" it's thinking "hey, I can write characters like this!" and the lines end up very clean and confident, just like handwriting.

You are right :)
My handwriting is shit, it negates your idea
+hanz cruz can you still draw well according to this technique? maybe your handeriting is bad because you write fast, but when you draw you take your time so it looks better.
+Ty Goren These drawings were not just characters.

Straight to the conclusion that sums up the focus point which has been missed by so many, lol. Nice one!
+fxscreamer Aren't you the guy that draws the exact same cat character over and over and over again just with different hair every single month, and post "improvement videos" which could be shown in any order and still make sense?
Yeah, don't give art advice.
For some people creativity and the talent of drawing just comes natural
Master Yoda its work. its not something that magically appears.
Klavi yeah u have to practice, but for instance all of my family could be called artistic. Talent runs in family's. like how some family's are athletic and some not athletic
Master Yoda. Nope.I can say that base on my experiences.
no, thats not true in the slightest
Master Yoda I would think yoda would know that it takes hard work to get good at anything
If they passed kindergarten then I think they can
That isn't drawing well. When someone says "I can't draw" they mean "I can't draw well"
Silver Chrome yeah nobody says "I can't draw" literally. Just like nobody literally means it when they say "I don't know how to dance/sing".

Honestly, I relate a lot. I'm often afraid of starting.
Not being scared doesnt mean you can draw

I draw for fun, and if you're young or just starting off you should try to remember this:
Grades in school mean next to nothing, if you get a bad grade in arts don't let that destroy your interest in it.
School made me lose all drive and belief in myself to do art but I still want to pursue it, so i'm trying but its hard to get out of that mindset

I'm reallygood at realistic drawings, but I simply CAN'T draw a cartoon. What is wrong with me.

+-T-X-M- i'm a lefty ,ink smuge for days
+-T-X-M- It's easy to just say it's all down to practice, but it all depends on each person. Some people just lack some fundamental abilities that, sometimes, can't be fixed by practice. I can't even sign my name twice and make them look the same, and I have done a generous amount of signing. How could that be down to lack of practice? *What* practice?
Draw thumbnails before doing the actual drawing
+Fernie Canto
I don't think drawing and signing can be considered the same thing, being able to exactly reproduce something, as you are trying to do by signing, isn't the same as drawing.

YES!!! The same goes for music!
Being musically inclined isn’t always something you’re born with, you just need to practice. I firmly believe anybody can be a musician, if they want to.
I think it needs passion to improve well our musical ability
I was thinking the same. We are capable of many things that we are not aware of. For example, anyone who got all ten fingers and average IQ can play guitar. Literally everyone, is not that hard.
@@simonagrigoruta guitar seems not that hard... But what about piano ? it's harder. anyone can play it well with a good work ?
@@andromisilibrober yes, piano takes quite a great deal of skills and practice. I think someone really needs to have a natural inclination, but even so, if you're passionate about it and put a lot of effort and time, you'll get some results.
I've known for my entire life that I couldn't draw because an art teacher looked at something I'd done in sixth grade and told me I couldn't draw. Sixty-one years later, Mr. Shaw showed me that I could. If only I'd had a teacher like him in grade school.

First step of learning to draw well is
1. Practice
2. Practice
3. More practice
People want immediate results smh, i hate whenever people tell me i have a “gift”.
Everyone says I'm the best drawer in my class, but the don't know that I started drawing since I was 5 or 6

@ how did they waste time and money tho?
What is the name of this college
Old fart?
Talent is worth nothing without passion and dedication!
EXACTLY!!!
fucking thank you
tl;dr
it's not about drawing and become and artist, it's about self confidence , and what u gonna achieve in life, in any field of work, if u have some self confidence , like u if u are an artist, u have to had some confidence in u to achieve what ever u achieve in your life ...
