I’ve been watching since you were at mums garage. I’ll say I know one thing, you guys won’t give up. And the the friendship between you and Gav is rock solid and that is worth more than all the Kate’s in the world.

Bead blasting is often recommended for balanced lightened cast iron con rods, as it’s supposed to put a more compressed outer layer “skin” to the cast metal, minimising potential splitting and fine cracks.

Kate should be back here in about 2-4 weeks, so i will endeavour to produce a fun and interesting update about her and us.

Happy to keep going as a member. Good to get these short updates so don’t worry about it 👍.
Had a quick look on a Dutton Facebook page on prop shafts and there’s a place near Kidderminster called Proptech Ltd (Hartlebury Trading Estate). Might be worth a call as they are local’ish to you. Just check though that the new gearbox you are going for is the same length as your current one, as I believe the type 9 could be longer, making the prop shaft you have too long

This is very helpful, I do know hartlebury trading estate, and it's a pretty decent run from us, nice countryside roads).
We are opting in for a 4-speed box, off an rs2000 cord escort.
It has a stronger shaft apparently.. 1inch diameter shaft and 23 spline, as opposed to our current one which is under an inch diameter and only 20 spline.
Pissed off as we spent £230ish on parts for rebuilding it..
Anyhow, I'm chuffed with this info Daryl, I'll Google protech, and find their telephone number and call them to see if they can restore it, and ill measure the new box for length and fitment in kate with her running gear.
      Much appreciated buddy 🤘😊👍

New subscriber here, late to the party so I don't know what the end result is intended to be, but I recognise the problems you are up against.
None of what I'm saying is going to be about Capri's, just wanted to say that you're not the only one who got bitten by the bug.
Props for taking on a car that looks borderline unrestorable for what I'd call a sensible amount of money!
But if you got customers, crack on, because I don't have any customers at all 🤐
    I have a Fiat X1/9 project car that I can't sell.
Apart from that, I recognise all the other problems are more or less identical.
Sorry I know nowt about Fords but because I got an X1/9 and it was in awful shape and smoky af, decided to commission a performance build based on the original sohc 8V 1500, resulted in a 40% power increase.
Which caused a whole load of other problems, long short nearly scuppered the project.
The original gearbox didn't look strong enough, the ratios didn't look ideal, and it had an open diff.
I had no idea how important the transmission is and how it's the 3rd most expensive component after the engine and body.
Previously I had bought an OE gearbox overhaul kit but hadn't noticed it had a label saying what other Fiats or Lancias the parts fitted.
One of which was the Fiat Ritmo (Strada) 105, 125, 130TC Abarth, which had a ' 2-litre dohc engine.
In the end I was able to get a LSD and a close ratio gearset with hefty shafts and stronger cogs from Bacci Romano, that fit inside the original X1/9 (also Stilo, Punto, Uno, and Lancia Delta Mk 1 to name a few others) casings.
I had a choice of ratios, choice of dog or synchromesh, and choices on the diff setup .
I opted for synchromesh and the diff was factory set up for fast road use - slow, progressive, minimum locking rates.
I've got a couple of these gearboxes and a couple of 1500 'long blocks', but the blocks and 8V heads aren't the right ones.
The blocks and heads from the Fiat Croma 16V or Lancia Thema 16V are the right ones, are available from breakers for next to nothing.
I also have a bodyshell that would serve as the basis for an interesting build using this engine and gearbox configuration.
The end result could be as light as 675 kg, with a flexible, usable 230 bhp, normal service intervals, intended as a fast road car in the tradition of the type - Stradale - in this case without modifying the original body and within the possibilities of the original discrete factory flared arches that the X1/9 had.
saves a vast amount of money and is not a widebody Dallara, it's intended for use in the UK on narrow roads.
Would easily be the fastest streetable na production car of its type, for the money lol
I mean it would be, if money wasn't a consideration, but on a cost benefit basis for vastly less money you could realise a considerable gain in performance over the original 88bhp 940kg .
Looks like a proper quick car on paper, for the money.
    Sorry I'm broke really 😔
    Good luck regardless 👍😊
I ran out of money and I can't afford to keep it, would happily donate it

      Hey bud,
      Emmanuel here.
The vid you're commenting on is footage from about 2 years ago. The car has been built and is on the road again. In storage for winter, and likely to be back out again in a few weeks.
I accidentally re-published a handful of old vids the other day, one of which is this one we're chatting on now.
If you want to see the car complete and driving, skim through the playlist and find the more recent few vids.
With regards to your classic fiat, feel free to give me a call on 01384 626587
      Emmanuel 👍😊
